Chapter 14

Diablo:

I looked at my wife whose eyes met mine, knowing that she was in pain.

She sat on one in front of her dresser inside the bedroom, fixing a bunch of jewels inside boxes that would later be going to the dressing room. There was a safe there for her to keep them there.

I didn’t know what she and mom spoke about, but I knew that it was often that a mother-in-law would be speaking to her son’s wife, especially as a new bride of a different family, to let her know of our ways. But knowing my mother, I knew that the last thing that she would do is force anything onto Sienna. She was herself, a rebellion once too.

“Are you okay? You’ve been quiet for a while.” I asked, and she nodded as she raised the box, her jewelry box, that she was fixing.

My eyes landed on a particular gem, an emerald, and I couldn’t help but find myself admiring it, being one of my one of favorite stones.
