LAWRENCE
“Dude! That shawty got a nice arse huh...” Charley, my friend commented excitedly as we watched the ladies dance in the club.
“Mmhh, nice arse, really...” Carl added and had another sip of his whiskey.
I just watched in silence occasionally taking sips from my glass of wine.
‘Hey, Lawrence, you are oddly quiet today...what is going on your head?” Carl asked, his voice pitched high as he tried to match the loud the music in the club.
“Yes, and why did he wanted us to not stay in the VIP section today, very unlike our Lawrence...” Carlos added smugly.
“When have I ever been a noisemaker like you guys?” I said, keeping my gaze at the pretty ladies on the dance floor.
They all laughed.
My friends were right. Being the heir of a conglomerate family gave me the audacity to live the kind of life a lot of people was only able to dream about. I never gave two fuvk about anything or anyone in the world and only lived to enjoy my life. Father and mother had always wanted me to join in the family business but then I thought, why join in the family business and work my butts off when I could just have fun instead. And so, I lived my life each day doing nothing else but having the fun of my life with my friends. I clubbed, partied, and spent. Well, you could say a bit recklessly.
But that night, I felt totally off from the club. After bumping into my first love on my way to the club, nothing seemed to be fun anymore.
Bianca was my first love, the only woman I had ever wanted to be with but in all of my glory, handsomeness, wealth and all, she had rejected my love. I remained heartbroken since then and resorted to clubbing and partying.
While all of my friends thought I was over her, I knew I was not and might never get over her.
“I should go get off some steam,” Charley said and proceeded to the dance floor.
“Me too... Have fun drinking alone! I need me some titties and bootties on me!” Carl joined him.
They looked excited. I just shrugged. Dancing with some chick that is not Bianca at the moment was the least in my mind.
“Hey handsome, care for a dance?” A lady approached me and Carlos.
“Me?” Carlos asked grinning shyly.
“No, him.” the lady pointed at me.
I sized her up briefly. She was nothing close to my type. Droopy eyes masked with heavy layers of makeup and most importantly she gave my friend a condescending look.
I waved her to lean forward and when she did, I whispered into her ears, “Sorry Miss but you are not my type.”
She straightened up, her face ashen and then stomped off.
“What have you done, Lawrence?” Carlos grimaced.
I chuckled, “Well, just gave her a bit of her medicine.”
Moments later my phone began to vibrate in my pocket. I excused myself and stepped out of the drowning noise to get the call.
“Hello?” I spoke into the phone.
“Lawrence...” I heard a sobbing voice.
My heart hitched. There was no way I could have missed that voice.
“Bianca?” I called to be certain.
“Yes Lawrence, it’s me Bianca...Please can you come get me...”
“Where exactly are you right now and I will come get you.”
I was already heading out of the club with my phone still in my ears as she told me her location.
I sent a text to Carlos as I drove out of the club. “I left. You guys have fun without me.”
I had no time to begin to explain to them that I had to dash off to pick Bianca. They surely would have talked me out of it if I had told them first. Who knew if this was a trap or something dangerous but I didn’t care because it was Bianca.
I saw her standing by the road all alone and quickly brought the car to a halt. Then I rushed towards her.
“Bianca...are you alright? Are you hurt?”
Her eyes were red and puffy like one that had been crying for hours.
My heart broke.
“Tell me Bianca, who hurt you? tell me...please...”
“No, Lawrence, I... It’s no one and I’m sorry I called you out here...” she sobbed.
I held her hand in mine and squeezed it gently. They felt cold. How long she must have been out here. My jaw tightened.
“No, please don’t say that...I want to be here for you...come let me get you home. You are cold.” Thankfully, I wore a denim jacket. I took it off and wrapped it around her. Started to lead her into the car but she pulled me back.
I stopped and turned to face her.
“Lawrence...let’s date...”
“Huh...” My lips parted and for a moment, there was a brief pause in my thoughts.
“All of a sudden...why?” I muttered starring at her. Last I recalled she had a boyfriend. I was supposed to be overly excited. My first love finally wanted us to date but still it was sudden and had me excited and shocked all at once.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I guess you don’t like me anymore...” she stated sadly and made to walk away.
I pulled her into my arms immediately. I had waited too long for this moment all my life to foolishly let it get past me.
“Yes, let’s date...” I said as I held her.
When I finally pulled away, she flashed me smile. A smile that had every blood inside of me flowing. Knitting our hands together, we made for the car.
“Where would you like to go? Do you have anywhere in mind you would like to go or anything you would want?” I asked her when we settled in the car. I made sure to hold the car for her to get in first. Don’t blame me. I was too excited.
“Erm, well, I have you so what else could I possibly want?”
My body melted at her words. My love for her increased at that moment. It made me glad to think she wanted me and not my family’s money as against what my friends had thought about her. I was afraid she was never going to love me. But I was all wrong and my fears were all for nothing.
“Then, would you like to go somewhere with me?”
“Urh, sure.”
All the while my phone had been beeping nonstop in its vibration mode. I had turned off the sound knowing my friends will call nonstop after I left. My phone started to vibrate again as I made to start the car. I was going to take a glance and drop the phone back but the sight of the caller had me halting in my movement.
“Father? Why will father be calling me now?” I wondered, hesitant to pick it. Father rarely called me with his personal line but instead have his personal secretary do it. What news about me was in the news this time around?
“Who is calling?” Bianca asked.
“Erm, it’s nothing important...I’m afraid one of these reporters want to trend badly.” I lied and made a mental note to call father later as it has stopped ringing. But the phone started to ring again almost immediately.
“Excuse me for a moment...” I told Bianca and stepped out to take the call.
“Come home now.” That was all father said and hung up immediately.
I looked at the car, how was I possibly going to let her go when we just were about to begin something special.
Knowing how serious father’s words could be, I knew I had to find a way to have Bianca leave without her feeling bad.
“Uhm...I’m sorry...why don’t I drop you off or call my driver to take you home. I must get home now. I promise to make it up to you...”
“Ah, fine.” She forced a smile but I sensed the hint of disappointment as she dropped off. Father had better be making me leave her this way for something important.
“My driver will come pick you up, okay?”
She nodded and I drove off.
“Where is my father?” I asked the servants as I stomped into the house.
“In his study...this way please, sir. Chairman is waiting for you.” Director Mason, father’s personal secretary popped out from the hallway. I climbed the stairs and followed him to father’s study room.
“My son!” Mom cried with excitement the moment she saw me.
“Mother...” I hugged her and let her pull me into her signature warm and long-lasting embrace.
“Oh, my son...have you been feeding well? You look so thin...”
“I am totally fine, mother...”
No one else worried about me like mother did. A care father saw differently.
“You are the one spoiling him! That is why he refuses to take responsibility for anything and would rather go to the club and spend my money recklessly! Have him enter your stomach and born him all over again!” father barked.
He always complained that mother pampered me too much but none of that fazed mother as she loved me regardless.
“Yes, if all he wants to do is bum around, spend our money, let him spend. It’s better than doing nothing...come and sit my son, let’s hear what your father has to say...”
“Yes, mother.”
“This was sent to me by the chairman of Las company. Lawrence, have a look.” Father threw a bunch of documents to the table.
I picked it up reluctantly wondering when father suddenly started to involve me in business matters knowing I had no interest. Whatever happened, I knew everything he and mother owned would eventually belong to me someday.
“Father, you of all people know I don’t have interest in business...” I said as I picked up the documents with a frown and had a look. Lots of business and law related jargons I had absolutely no interest in.
“Ah, right, how could I forget that my son has no interest in business...” Father gritted sarcastically. “Director Mason! Enter!”
Director Mason who had been standing outside poked his head in and entered.
He walked straight to me and handed me the file he had entered with.
“Go on, have a look and make your choice of the two documents.” Father added.
I looked at Mother hoping she had an idea what was going on but she looked as confused as I was.
“If he is having any confusion, director Mason, why don’t you help him out?”
“This is the document of business proposal from Las company, they are willing to make us the highest shareholder in their company which will make the Williams group the number one group in the country and second in the world...”
“Wow! That’s great, father, mother!” I said happily. A new feat for my family is one for me too. It meant I get to keep living as I wanted with wealth in my name. “But...why is father showing me first...don’t tell me he wants me make a choice for him...director Mason...” I chuckled at the mere thought of it.
“Well, indirectly yes...”
“What?”
“You fool...You don’t think he would offer me this easily...Lawrence, there is no proposals without clauses...” father snapped quietly.
“What does he want and what does it have to do with me?”
“Director Mason, go on...”
“Las company is on the verge of collapse at the moment. We loan him a huge amount... become the highest shareholder in his company and you marry his daughter.”
“Well fair enough, father you could loan him some money and...” I was still saying when the latter statement registered in my head. I jumped to my feet.
“What??? Marry his daughter?? Does that make sense? what does he really want, to keep his business or to marry off his daughter!!” I flared up.
“I made the second clause...yes, I brought up your marriage with his daughter. I can’t work years building this company and have it destroyed when I’m gone. You must start now to take responsibility. Enough of your jokes now. Your marriage with his daughter will be fixed soon and a post will be given to you in the company where you will start working to get to the top. I have had enough of your irresponsibility. I didn’t tell your mother first because it’s time she stopped hiding you. And... the document Director Mason gave to you is the removal of your name from whatever inheritance of the Williams group if you let this deal fell through.” Father said and walked out of the study.
My inheritance? No way. “Father!”
I turned to mother, helpless.
Mother sighed and nodded calmly towards me after which she went after dad. To speak on my behalf.
The image of Bianca’s face flashed in my head. I felt like my heart was being squeezed in a tight grip.
“No, I am never letting go of Bianca...no matter what.”
VERONICA “What?! Marry Lawrence Williams? That infamous playboy? Mom! Dad! You can’t be serious right now!” I l flipped out when my parents told me I had to marry the infamous playboy son of a conglomerate family. “Veronica, this is the only way...we must save our company. The company is going under, the company is in debts, we can’t afford to pay the workers anymore and lots of accumulated loan to be paid...” “Dad, is there no other way?” It wasn’t only that I was being arranged to some playboy in a marriage but heavens! I had a boyfriend I cherished a lot. How could mother and father do this to me. “You think I didn’t look all nook and cranny before coming to this decision?” Dad’s voice was strained and his eyes weary from lack of sleep. Mom was quiet just like that day. I knew they wouldn’t have easily made the decision... I knew it was only fair I helped my parents to stop our company from going under...I knew all that but why did it have to be me...why... “No, I can’t marry
ARISE NEWS CORPORATION. A lady presented a file to an older woman. The older woman looked at her with a bit of disgust before she reluctantly collected the file from the lady. “Ma’am, the director sent this as exclusive as it concerned Chairman Williams of Williams Group and the Las Group...” Hearing that it concerned Chairman Williams of Williams Group and Las Group immediately got the disgust in her face to disappear. “Oh, the director sent this...” “Yes ma’am. His secretary sent it over minutes ago.” “Minutes ago? And why am I just getting it now?” she raised her voice a bit. The younger lady dipped her head and apologized. “I’m sorry ma’am.” “Go.” She shooed her away before she opened the file. If she must get the promotion she sorely craved, then she knew she had to do more than just suck up to the director to make it happen fast. “Oh my world!” she literally screamed as her eyes read through the content of the file she had been given. “How can this be...” she muttered i
VERONICA It was my wedding day. I had still thought it was all a joke and at some point, I had even laughed the imagination of it off but standing before the gigantic mirror in the wedding preparation room starring at myself in it, cladded in a long flowing white sparkling wedding dress and a face I struggled a bit to recognize as mine, it all began to register in my head. I must say I looked quite pretty in my make over and all. “How is it? do you like it?” my stylist snuck up behind me and asked with anxious expectant eyes. For every woman, this was supposed to be their happiest day or maybe one of it but for me, this was my worst day. Getting married to a man I not only barely knew but a man I could say I detested. A playboy. My friends were still super mad at me, my boyfriend had walked out on me days back with a disappointed look that scared the shit out of me and here I was being shoved into the den of a lion. “Ma’am? Ma’am?” The voice of the stylist pulled me back from my
VERONICAA not-so large gathering was allowed for the wedding ceremony where only those allowed in was strictly on invitation bases. After I changed into an equally pretty red dress, I sat down in my seat. A toast was made and the huge cake was cut by me and Lawrence. Followed by gifts, gifts and gifts. A lot of them. Unfortunately, I didn’t care about any of them gifts. My eyes kept darting around, there were a lot of rich men and women of affluence present. A good number of them I usually see in the television. Dad had me say Hello to some of them. Gosh, I smiled until my cheeks nearly peeled off!Of course, the media was allowed in to take the full coverage of the wedding. They were just everywhere, capturing just anything happening. I doubted they would miss a thing that happened. I imagined the headlines...the infamous playboy married. I couldn’t begin to imagine the looks of his crushes and the women he played around with.Chairman Williams stood up to give a speech. He looked el
VERONICA “Here ma’am, what you asked for.” Catherine handed me an album. A picture album of the Williams family. After what I observed in the dining table, I became curious. There was something cold going on that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I was fully aware every family had their issues, imagine how much issues there will be in a conglomerate family. “Thank you, you may leave.” I discharged her as I took the album and walked into a room. I sat on the bed and opened the picture album. An elderly man and woman first met my eyes. “Mr Williams and his wife....” Lawrence grand-parents, now late. According to stories in the internet, it was known that Mr Williams and Lawrence’s father, Max, now Chairman Williams had jointly found the Williams group of companies. They had started out small with only the construction company and grew the company big. After the death of Mr Williams, Max Williams, his first son and co-founder had taken over and became chairman of the Williams group
VERONICA 8LAWRENCE POVMother herself had woken me up on the day of my so-called wedding. I nearly slept in.I was cladded in an Armani suit and as usual looked dripping hot. At the wedding, I waited up as my bride to be was led towards me by my soon to be father-in-law. It all was happening so fast I wished I was dreaming instead. Thoughts of Bianca filtered in and I held myself back. I had spoken to her over the phone the previous night and assured her I had no atom of affection for my supposed bride. Bianca didn’t mind, she is so understanding and my love for her increased. I just couldn’t wait for the whole thing to be over so I could go see her. God, I have missed her so much. Why did life have to be so unfair...why did I have to get into this lie of a marriage just when my long time crush accepted my love...why...why...As she walked towards me, my eyes caught her full length, my bride. She looked quite beautiful but when our eyes met, we both was however scoffing with disgust
VERONICA POV“Holy shit!!’ he screamed and next I went landing with a thud on the floor.I clenched my teeth holding back my groan.“This bastard...” I gritted under my breath.“Em!...” he towered over me, a hint of remorse in his face. Not like I cared about the remorse in his face.He offered his hand to help me up but I shot him a glare ignoring his hand and rising to my feet on my own.“I totally forgot I would be seeing a total stranger in the same bed with me...this morning...I was startled. Did that hurt?” he smirked.“Good morning to you too.” I slammed and walked straight into the bathroom, scowling.“No, no, don’t get in, I need to....” He screamed as I was getting into the bathroom but before he could get to the door, I had gotten in and bolted the door from inside. Seeing he was desperate to use the bathroom, a wicked idea popped up in me.It’s payback time, husband! After I finished with my business which lasted only but briefly, I relaxed in there doing absolutely nothin
VERONICA’S POV“He was just sitting right here a moment ago...where could he have gone to?” I said as Ms Patricia and I started to search around for Lawrence. A thought of how serious he had looked as he fiddled with his phone earlier on flashed in my head. Could it be something serious had happened?“Don’t panic ma’am, we will find your husband, I promise. He probably left on his own...This place is well secured.”“Of course, we will find him...” I muttered as my eyes strayed all over the place. Ms Patricia had made the dance and the show to pause as we secretly searched for Lawrence.“You, go this way...you...this way and you that way...keep it discreet for now.” She ordered the staff as they all went different locations in search of Lawrence.I too looked in a few places. After several minutes of searching, there still wasn’t any trace of him.We had looked all the possible places he could have gone within that short time. Where on earth could he have gone to?“Ma’am, I believe we
WRITER'S POV “Here! Taste this, you will like it,” Tracey offered. Veronica opened her mouth wide and she threw in some sandwiches. “You two don't eat it all without us!” Elsie yelled behind them from the canopy shed. “I thought you wanted to maintain this figure for your fans?” Gail asked Elsie. “So what? I am allowed to add a few pounds,” Elsie retorted. “Then your fans will be mad and unfollow you.” “Hey! How can you say that!” Elsie fumed. “Oh-oh. Is that an angry bird?” Gail taunted. In a sweep, she took to her heels knowing exactly what was coming next. As expected Elsie chased after her threatening to kill her if she caught her. Veronica and Tracey exchanged looks and busted into laughter. When Tracey's phone rang, she stepped aside to take her call. “I will be back,” she flashed Veronica a smile before stepping aside. Veronica closed her eyes, drinking in the freshness of the gentle breeze. She had reconciled with her friends and they were cooler and clo

He retrieved his coat and slung his arms into it. A glance at his wristwatch confirmed Benita was already on her way. He didn't want to keep her waiting for long. If his plan was going to work, then he must show the gentleman side of him. That wouldn't need him breaking a lot of sweat. He smirked, stepping away from the rack. There was a bit of a ruffle outside his door which stopped a moment later. The next second, the door flung open and a figure barged in much to his. “Hello old friend. This is where you have been hiding your sinful self the whole time. Not bad.”Charley tried to be calm. “What are you doing here…how do you know I was here?”“Well, don't be so surprised now. You know getting information like this is like a walk in the park for someone like me,” Lawrence smirked, “Director Charley, have a seat. Let's have
WRITER'S POV“There you are…” He breathed in relief. She was seated in a seat and writing inside a notepad, her suitcase beside her. Was she parking or unparking? She looked up when she saw him. “You are back.”He stepped inside, eyes glued to her. He had a lot to say to her but seeing her had his words sinking right back into his stomach. “Uhm, come, there's something I need us to do,” he finally said. She got up. “What is it?” “Outside.”With the flowers tucked behind him, he stepped aside and motioned for her to step out first. Reluctantly, she started out of her room wondering what it was he wanted to show her. “Come in now.”Lawyer Steve entered. “Do you remember him?”Veronica tried to think. Lawyer Steve’s face struck a faintly familiar face to her. But she couldn't fully grasp where she had met him. But it soon began to click. “Wait… that lawyer…”Lawyer Steve grinned pleased that she finally remembered him. “But what is he doing here?” She asked. “Well, I am here
WRITER'S POV“Hello, Uncles.”Jack Williams and Noah Williams turned. “I must be seeing wrong. Isn't this our dear nephew, Noah?” Jack Williams and Noah Williams exchanged astonished looks which quickly morphed into an unpleasant one. “What brings our dearest nephew to a place like this?”“Beats me. His name and pictures are all over the media. He is at a risk of losing his position in the group but he chose to come here instead,” Jack sneered. He looked up at Lawrence. “Are you sure you are at the right place?” Lawrence chuckled. He drew out a seat from an empty table which he pulled to his uncles’ table and sat down. “Well, it hasn't been easy for me these past days, no thanks to someone,” he stated calmly as he poured himself a drink. Both Noah and Jack Williams exchanged another look and busted into laughter.“But, don't you think you are being rude right now? There are empty tables. What makes you think you can sit at the same table with us? Your mother truly didn't teach you

We don't have time.”“Yes sir.” Jessie made a call to both Noah and Jack's secretaries and they confirmed the two weren't in office. When he called their homes, it turned out they weren't home either. “They are not home either,” Jessie reported. Lawrence's eyes crinkled into a pleased glint. “This is good,” he breathed, “I think I have an idea where they might be,” he smirked and got into the car. Minutes later, they stopped in front of a bar. “Chad exotic.” Jessie mumbled out loud. He frowned and looked at his boss. Surely he had made a mistake. WRITER'S POV“Lawrence… you are here. “ Bianca gasped. Carefully, she lowered her sleeping child into the cradle, ran to Lawrence and embraced him. “I knew you would come. No matter how mad you must have been about what I did, I knew you loved me and still…”Lawrence jerked off her body. The fact that she was still disillusioned irritated him. She reached forward and grabbed his hands. Tears clouded her eyes. “You know, everything I did was because I loved you. I couldn't bear to live without you. I regretted hurting you and I wanted to make amends.”He sneered. “Love me? What a load of crap.” Then snatched his hands away. “I swear it. I really loved you…no, I really love you even this moment, Lawrence.”“Unfortunately I am in love with another person now. Save your love.”“That bitch?” “Watch your mouth now. I ain't here to chit chat with you,” he warned sternly. She stepped back, disappointed. “Why have you come then? To mock me? After filing a lawsuit against me? I know you
LAWRENCE'S POVI didn't know it was going to hurt that much… hearing Veronica agree with father's suggestion of us breaking up. Had she felt nothing for me this whole time? Does she not see how crazy she has made me? She had changed me and now she wanted things to end between us. The torture was too much. My heart twisted painfully. I watched her until she got into her room. I was confused, scared and worried. I had failed my parents and wanted to make things right again in whatever way. But losing Veronica? That was never part of my plans.I couldn't lose her now just when my innocence has been proved that I never got Bianca pregnant. I wanted her. I wanted to be with her. I wanted to tell her how much I missed her while she was away and how much I wanted the truth to be out sop I will be with her. “Charley… that bastard…”I took out my phone and called Jessie. “Invite a reporter over to the house.”I told him then I got into my car and drove off. “Jeez man! VERONICA'S POVAfter Chairman Williams and his wife left, I slumped into the seat. I couldn't breathe. In the last minutes, I couldn't breathe. I had always imagined this day. I did but I never imagined my heart feeling this wrenched. I stared at Lawrence. He was up on his feet looking at the window almost restlessly. What was going on in his head?I wondered why he never told me he found out the child wasn't his. Was he ever going to tell me if this didn't happen?Perhaps he never would have. Perhaps he had gotten comfortable with his ex-girlfriend while I was away. I felt my throat dry and ended up swallowing hard, burning my throat in the process. “Sir, the reporters are headed here. They have gotten a wind of your residence,”Jessie announced. Lawrence let out a frustrated sigh. “We have to leave now. The reporters will soon flood here,” he told me. “I will pick a few of my things,” I said as I stood up and went into my room. On my way out I heard Jessie telling him the rep
