The Call

Chapter 41

BIANCA’S POV

I sighed when I saw it was my mother. Quickly, I wiped away my tears with the back of my hands. I couldn’t let her know I’d been crying. When using my hands to wipe didn’t help much, I lowered and used Richard’s shirt. It was teardrops, it wouldn’t leave a stain, so I didn’t have to worry. I cleared my throat repeatedly until it felt less thick.

The call ended because I wasted some much time, and instead of waiting for her to call back, I decided to call her myself. After a few seconds, she answered.

“Hey sweetie,” her voice blared from the speaker. It sounded cheerful as usual. Sweet and warm, like a songbird.

I tried to match her tone even though I knew I couldn’t from how I was feeling.

“Hey Mum,” I said with a forced smile as if she could see me physically.

“How are you doing?”

I paused for a bit before answering. “I’m fine, mum. What about you and Dad and Thea?”

It’s been just a day since I last saw them, yet it felt like a month or even more.
