ELINNA
Ben kept to his promise and came back when he was down speaking to my dad. “Is everything okay? What did he say?” He didn't speak as he sat down and just stared at one spot.“It’s nothing. Just work stuff.”
I should have known something was wrong. His smile was too tight, his eyes avoiding mine just a fraction too long. But I wanted so badly to believe in him - in us.
I placed my hand on his shoulder to get his attention.
“Are you okay?”He pulled away slightly before catching himself. "Just pack business," he said, forcing a laugh. "Nothing for you to worry about."
The way he said it - like I was some child who couldn't handle grown-up matters - made my chest ache. But I swallowed the hurt. Maybe he was just stressed about our anniversary tomorrow.
“Let's forget about that. Tomorrow is our anniversary. Three Year anniversary. I have a surprise planned for you.” He added. My stomach did a backflip and I couldn't keep my excitement as I clapped like a little girl.Three years together. Three years of stolen kisses and whispered promises. Tomorrow was supposed to be special.
“Really?! A surprise for me? What is it? Tell me!” He laughed. “If I tell you, it won't be much of a surprise, would it?” I thought about it. “Screw it. Just tell me what it is.” “Wait till tomorrow.” I didn't have a choice. I didn't want to ruin it but at the same time, I was eager. “Okay, I'll look forward to it.” For the rest of the day, I couldn't get my mind off what he wanted to show me. But then I had other things to worry about. I didn't know what to wear. I didn't even have proper clothes so I called the only person I knew could help me out in this situation. “Helen, hey. I need your help. Ben has asked me out to dinner for our anniversary tomorrow and I don't know what to wear. I don't have anything good. I think he's going to propose.” The way she squealed on the phone let me know that she was just as excited as I was. “Don’t worry, I'm coming over with everything I have tomorrow and I'll make sure you look so beautiful for your proposal.” With that in mind, I felt more at ease. True to her words, she truly showed up with several dresses and make up. “Okay, you're going to try all of them on and let us know which one is best.” I began trying dresses on and even though it was tiring, I was happy because I knew that by tonight, I was going to be Ben's fiance. “Yes! This is perfect. We're going to go with this. Now sit down so I can get your make up done. Its almost time.” All the whole, we already started talking about wedding decorations and dresses. Then an idea flashed through my mind. “How about you go to the hotel first so that you'll be able to get pictures? Then I'll meet up with you later. He doesn't need to know that you're there. We're having the dinner at the roof top.” She nodded enthusiastically. “That’s a great idea. I'll pack up and go there now. Let me know if any updates.” I nodded and then she left. She had made me so pretty and I didn't even recognize who I was. It was a black floor length dress with a slit up to the thigh. It had an off the shoulder neckline with lace sleeves and it fit me perfectly. It was almost six so I was expecting Ben's call any minute. I had made sure to do all my house work earlier so that Gina won't have any reason to call me. I didn't want her to know I was going out. If she did, she'd find some work for me. It was now six with no call from Ben. I tried calling him but it just kept going straight to voice mail. I quickly took off my heels so that I won't feel tired quickly.By six-thirty, my phone remained silent.
By seven, my stomach had twisted into knots. Did he forget?
At eight, when the call finally came, my hands shook so badly I nearly dropped the phone.
"Elinna, I'm so sorry," Ben's voice was strained. "Something came up at work. I have to cancel."
The words hit like a physical blow. "Oh," I managed, my voice small. "I... I understand."
I felt my hopes dashed and my heart sink but I couldn't say anything. I knew that he would be here if he could.
“Oh, it's okay. Take-” He ended the call just then. I sat in the room with my make up and dress, staring at a particular spot. I felt so downcast. I'd really looked forward to spending the say with him. My phone started ringing again and I thought it was him trying to apologize but it was just Helen. I didn't want to pick it up at first but I didn't have a choice. Before I could even say anything, she started speaking. “Ben is such a sweetheart. You should see the big dinner he has planned for you. The roses, the lighting, everything is so pretty.” I was confused. Ben just called to cancel. “Helen, he said he's caught up at work. He just called me to cancel dinner.” She paused. “Maybe he wants to surprise you. Because I'm hiding in a corner and I can see him with the waiters getting the place ready. Why don't you come over and surprise him too?” Why would he cancel with me and then go ahead to still make plans? That didn't make sense. “I think I'll come there and see for myself. Maybe you're being mistaken. Surely , he won't do a thing like that.” I picked up my things and dashed out of the door, making a straight trip for the hotel. I met up with Helen when I got there and to my surprise, she hadn't been joking or dreaming. The rooftop restaurant was everything I'd dreamed of - twinkling lights, roses everywhere, a table set for two. And there he was. My Ben.
Feeding grapes to a woman. Then he leaned in and kissed her on the mouth.
margin-left:0.0000pt;mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph;">The world tilted. I couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.
That wasn't the only pain. The other woman was my sister, Lily.
ELINNAThe moment Lily's eyes met mine, the world stopped. Her guilty expression told me everything I needed to know—this wasn't some accidental meeting. This was planned. Then Ben turned. His face changed too fast to catch—shock, irritation, then that smooth, practiced calm I'd come to recognize. The mask he wore when lying."Elinna," he began, already stepping toward me with outstretched hands.I didn't let him finish. The pain was a living thing, clawing up my throat, but I refused to break in front of them. Not here. Not like this.Lily's giggle followed me as I fled, the sound like shards of glass scraping against my ribs.Helen found me in the lobby bathroom, my trembling hands gripping the sink. The beautiful black dress—the one I'd chosen hoping Ben would finally propose—was now damp with tears."I'll kill him," Helen hissed, dabbing at my ruined makeup.I shook my head. "Don't." My voice surprised me—cold where it should have cracked. "They're not worth it."But the hollownes
ELINNA“Alpha Tim, welcome to my house. You say you have my bride?”My father shoved me forward with unnecessary force. I stumbled slightly before catching myself, forcing my chin up despite the way my pulse pounded in my throat.Carlisle's golden eyes - not blue as I'd first thought in the dim lighting, but a mesmerizing molten gold - raked over me with predatory intensity. His nostrils flared slightly as he inhaled my scent, those unnerving eyes missing nothing from my trembling fingers to the rapid rise and fall of my chest."She is perfect," he finally declared, and the relief that flooded me was so strong my knees nearly buckled. From the corner of my eye, I saw Lily's face twist in jealousy and Ben's fingers curl into fists at his sides.“Excuse us. I would like to speak to her alone.”The butler led them away and only the both of us stayed in the room.“You can look at me. I won't bite.”He has short black hair with the best blue eyes I'd ever seen. He was built, enough to make
My eyes caught a glimpse of the dress and I wondered what it was like. Gina hadn't called me when picking it out. She had in fact gone with the one person who wanted nothing good for me.Sarah.I stilled my mind as they began to move around and get my hair, make up and nails ready. What made me open my eyes was the strong smell of mist in front of me.“When your husband comes close to you tonight, at least he should smell something pleasant. Now, place your upper body closer to the dispenser and open your legs so I can place the other one.”My legs? For…oh.I felt myself turn red but I tried hard not to show it. I'd completely forgotten about that. Was I ready for it?This was one of the many times I wished my mother was here. She would have been the one to tell me about what to expect. She was presently too sick to talk and I didn't want to tell her about the marriage so it wouldn't upset her more.I put on the dress and it fit like a glove..I wonder how she got my measurements corre
ELINNAI sat up on the bed and looked at him like I hadn't heard him right.“S-Sorry?”He had a very scary look on his face and I wondered if I had genuinely done something wrong.“Don't make me say it again. I said strip.”I stood up from the bed and my hands shook as I looked at him. I removed my shorts that I had changed into and then took off my shirt. I remained handing in my panties and my bra.I wondered what he wanted to do so I just obeyed. After all, I had made a vow to do so.Carlisle's nostrils flared as he drank in the sight of me. "All of it."His voice startled me that I took a step back before I started undressing. The fact that I was standing naked in front of a man for the first time was not what bothered me..it was the fact that my body was shaking terribly while standing in front of him.“Get on the bed. Spread your legs.”W-What? What did that mean?He surely didn't mean that, did he?I got on the bed, my fingertips and feet cold in fear. Who was this man that I w
ELINNAFOUR YEARS LATERI didn't expect it to be this sunny. After all, it had been a while since I'd been in the United States. It was rainy over in Europe, Berlin to be exact.Oh well, now that I was here, I'll take what I can get.The private jet landed just at the clock struck twelve but we had an early lunch because we had to wake up early that morning to meet up with the department time.“Welcome to the United States, Miss Wright.”I smiled at the pilot as he held out his hand for me to take as I descended the stairs. My bodyguard brought out our luggage and even though I had spent all my life here, it still felt like a foreign country to me.“Thank you, Lenny. I take it you'll be going back to Berlin now?”He smiled.“Far from it. You seem to forget that I am your personal pilot meaning that anywhere you are, I am. I am to wait for you to give me an order.”“Forgive me, I often forget.”From the distance, I could see the black car driving up to us.“Mum, can we go now? I'm goin
ELINNAJust because I told Lizzy that I didn't want to be in the spotlight, didn't mean that she wouldn't give me work. Now that I was back, she had handed back power to me and I had to sign, stamp and review everything. She came back from the company that evening and just plopped on the couch.“Why are you tired? I'm the one who has been working.”She looked at me from the couch.“We have a company gala this weekend, remember? The charity fundraiser and five year anniversary? It's a big deal and the media attention that it has gotten alone is more than enough pressure for me to want to make sure that it is best gathering of the month. I have to make sure that everyone that we invited would be willing to come. It's a whole damn lot.”I'd gone over the guest list with her as I needed to make sure that we invited people who would be very willing to dip thier hands into very deep pocket and pull money out.“Cut yourself some slack. Get some planners tondo the remaining things. What else
ELINNAThe covers were forcefully dragged from my body and the curtains were moved away, forcing light to pour into the room too quickly.“What on earth is going on? If it's not the end of the world, why are you waking me up so early? It's the damn weekend.”Lizzy dropped the covers on the floor.“I told you that you were going to be spending your entire day getting pampered. So get up, shower and get to the salon. Your appointment is soon.”After hating my life as much as I could, I finally sat up without even realizing that she was still standing there. When she saw my face, she screamed.“What is that on your face?!”There was no mirror around me so I couldn't tell what she was talking about. She pointed at me while walking closer.“You have eye bags. You have eye bags on the day that your skin should be very flawless. You're doing this to spite me, are you not?”I knew I'd have eye bags because I stayed up late with Chase, spending as much time with him as I could. He has barely b
ELINNAIt was a custome party.I'd only gotten to find out when Lizzy joined me at the hotel.“Can I open my eyes now?”She had entered with her eyes closed so she won't get a look at me yet.“Yes, you can.”Her reaction had been heartwarming.“Oooh, if I were a man, I'd propose to you right away.”I rolled my eyes at her but I still blushed at what she said.“You’re so sweet! Come on, get dressed so we can leave.”I was finally able to eat something while she was getting ready because my stomach was about to fold up.“Here, put this on.”I looked at the mask that she was handing to me.“What is this for?”“I made it a customer party. I'm hiding you from the public. It was the only way I could hide your face.”That was a very good plan. The fact that there was going to be a lot of media coverage there would mean that a lot of pictures would be taken along with the whole event being on television..That meant that there was a high chance of my face also being seen. If my father saw tha
CARLISLEGomez had reached out to her. He had called her in front of me and as the phone rang, my heart beat in my chest, wondering what she was going to say when she picked up. “Hello? Who's this?”I gave Gomez a go ahead. “Is this Elinna Evergreen?”She didn't answer immediately. “Yes, this is she. Who is this, again?”“This is Gomez. I'm Carlisle's right hand man.”She burst out laughing. “Did he send you to me? He said he wanted to kill me. Has he asked you to lure me back to the pack?”Gosh, from the way she was talking, I could tell that she was very mad. I really want to know what he had said to her that day he went to her office and the day that he had called her here. “Elinna, please hear me out. That's far from what happened. Listen, he wants to explain what happened to you. Carlisle is not the same anymore. But he's fine now and he heard everything that happened. He wants to apologise for everything the other guy did.”If she was running away from me, it was a valid r
ELINNA“What? What do you mean you're coming to New York?” Brad smiled into the phone. “I mean I'm coming to New York. I have a deal to close and also an excuse to see you and Chase! I've missed you guys so much!”Chase would be so happy when I tell him about this. He didn't get to see Brad before we left back here and he was so close to Brad. “You don't seen as happy as I thought you would. Don't you want to see me?”I gave him a look. “What? How can you say that? Of course I'm happy that you want to come. Hurry up, when is your flight?” I knew that he was going to check his planner. Brad had a very terrible memory and I had to make him buy a planner and sticky notes so that he would remember everything that he needed to do. “Oh, it's this Saturday. I should be with you by Monday morning. It's going to be a very long flight.”Well, we didn't really feel the stress of the flight because we used the private jet so there was a lot of comfortability. “Well, I would be very honored
CARLISLEHe was back. After all these years, he came back.He ruined my life back then and now, just when I thought I could finally have my life back, that bastard was back.“Gomez, why didn't you tell me? Did you think I wouldn't find out?”Gomez kept staring at his feet.“My King, I couldn't bear to tell you the truth. I mean, after all these years that we thought that we had won against him, I couldn't bring myself to tell you that he was back. You would be so disappointed.”I could understand that but what if hebhad gone ahead to do something that didn't want to? I would have to take responsibility for it.“Let’s leave that. I don't know when he's going to be back so we have to hurry up and find out what he wants this time around. Did he go anywhere with me?”From the way Gomez recoiled, I could tell that he had done something he wasn't supposed to.“He went to see her.”My heart sank to the bottom of my feet.I stood up from my chair and crossed the room to meet him, hoping that
ELINNA“Are you okay? What's wrong?”I gathered myself together and forced a smile, not liking the pain that was shooting through mybhead. I had warned Ice not to shout in my head but I guess the pain I felt didn't matter. The pain didn't last for long though.“Yes, I'm fine. Let's get going. I just thought I forgot something.”As she walked ahead of me, I tried to wonder what the hell had just happened.“Ice, what the hell was that? Why did you shout at me like that?”Helen entered the car before me.“I’m sorry for the way I raised my voice but I did it to warn you. I mean, you couldn't let you talk about Chase. I don't want you telling anyone about Chase until I'm sure that they're clean. You'd be surprised how good demons are at hiding themselves.”What? Helen? Possessed? That was crazy to even imagine. But I couldn't imagine it too until I saw the demon in Carlisle.“Do you think she's possessed too?”I mean, her coming to look for me out of nowhere was a very suspicious thing but
ELINNA“What did you say about the new investor? I was on a call when you came in the other time and I was distracted.” Lizzy rolled her eyes at me. “I said he came in to see the place and he said he was looking forward to meeting you the next time he came.”Mmm, at least this time, there was no funny story about our investor being possessed. I wondered if Lizzy would believe it if I told her. I highly doubted it. The way she hated Carlisle, you'd think he was the one who created the devil. “Why didn't he just wait till I was back before coming? Now he had to make a double trip.” She thought about it for a moment then shrugged. “He had already made plans and he had a trip for Japan the next day so I'm guessing he wanted to finish up business in this part of the world.”That made sense…it was lunch time and my stomach was actually very hungry. My body was so tired and I was sleepy. When the bell rang, I just put my pen down and rested my head beteeen my hands because I couldn't
CARLISLEBy the time I woke up, the moon was in the sky.My whole body felt like it had been beating to it's ends with a very big stick and I could barely move. My throat was so parched and it hurt so much when I swallowed.I managed to reach for the bell on my nightstand and rang it. I don't remember the last time I used that bell because I liked doing things myself. The bell was to call for maids or guard when I needed help.Gosh, why couldn't I remember what I had done to make me feel like this? The door opened and Gomez ran in.“My Liege, you're awake. You took a long nap.”“Gomez, get me water and some food. Also some pain killers. Now.”He looked up at me and froze, staring right at me like I had just spoken some foreign language.“Why are you still standing there? Go!”He uses his legs, running out of the room..I managed to gather myself and get out of bed, setting my eyes on the couch beside the window..“What the hell is going on?” I whispered as I sat down.Gomez walked pac
ELINNA“Noe, explain to me how on earth I tell you to do one thing. One thing! And who do you go ahead to do?! Twenty five other things asides that one thing! Do you think that if he had decided to harm you or kill you, he won't have succeeded?”Since I got home and called for Ice, I'd been getting an earfull..“And who will be blamed for this? Who do you think will have to take the fall for your irresponsible actions, Elinna?! I will. Because I was supposed to be watching you but you put yourself in harm's way!”The fact that she was in my head and she was shouting just made things worse. I had a very bad headache and I had to deal with it. I knew that I shouldn't have gone to smart talk him but I couldn't help it.There was just something about him that made me so angry.“Ice please stop shouting. I didn't mean to. He asked to see you,.I panicked. I thought he wouldn't be able to sense you since you left.”I just laid down on the bed and let the cool breeze hit me. I'd been through
ELINNA“One would think that taking a body like this would make you more of a man and less of a coward but no, I could smell your cowardice all the way from the gate.”He scoffed and pushed his sunglasses further up his nose bridge.“I’m sure you know how much I hate the sun. So don't waste my time with stupid talks and lets go inside so we can talk about the things that truly matter.”He turned around and walked away, leaving me standing there.I wonder if he could sense Ice. He would have said something if he could. She probably hid herself very well.I followed him into the house, remembering the first time I walked in through these hallways. I felt so happy that day, I felt like every other bride, but I wasn't treated like one.I only saw these hallways two times, the first time I came to this house and the last time I was in this house. That day marked my freedom and I remembered dragging my pregnant self out of this house, swearing that I'll never come back here again even as a
ELINNAI got to the pack that evening and just headed straight for a hotel.I avoided all the hotels close to my house which was basically all the hotels in the clan. Most of the industries were around where I used to live with my family and I didn't want them to know that I was here because I didn't want them to harass me in any way.I just came here for something and I was going to leave as soon as possible. Didn't want to give them the chance to kill me.I ordered room service on my way to my room and I just slumped on my bed as I got there.Lizzy had called me on my way up and I just told her that I was tired and I wanted to sleep for now and I'll call her later. I sent a message to Chase because I wouldn't be able to call him without falling asleep on the call.I think I fell asleep before the room service cane because I could hear them knocking but my body wouldn't allow me to wake up.I'll apologize to them later.By the next morning, I woke up early and refreshed. I wasn't ver
