“What are we to do, your majesty?” Asked a pale, skinny man fawning over Yolandi. She slapped his hand and waved him away, his voice was high-pitched and he was unable to control the levels as he spoke.
“Try to keep your distance, Guntha.” Zornan slowly recited, standing on the side of Yolandi, dressed in black fur, except for the red that lined his sleeves.
“War, it will certainly come to war, Agneta, the little bitch, I’m positive she’s telling my sweet boy about the prophecy. She’ll be turning him against me!” Yolandi raised her voice while looking in the mirror, she banged her hands on her vanity as the ones still loyal guarded her door. She quickly turned to face Zornan, “Grab Seti from the dungeons, I will kill him myself!” He nodded as Guntha quickly scampered off. He's not as tall as everyone else, he has short braided pure white hair, pink eyes, and a thin white mustache. An outcast as the last albino born there was over two hundred years ago. Yolandi and Zornan discussed a strategic plan for they both anticipate what will happen to the kingdom now. A few hours later there was a knock on the door and in came a messenger with a bag and a note. She quickly grabbed the note that read, “You sent your minion to do your dirty work, Mother? For shame, he called your name when I chopped off his head. I released everyone I found down here including my uncle. Your tyrant rule is over, Ice Queen.” Yolandi screamed as she ripped up the note and pushed Zornan holding the decapitated head of Guntha in the bag, as she stood up. After sending the gift to his mother down in the dungeons, Raiden watched as Guntha’s body was being dragged away by some broad-shouldered guards.
“Uncle, I’m so glad to be with you again.” Raiden grabbed onto Seti’s shoulders and then turned to Agneta. “Cousin, you were always there for me, I will make you my right-hand man. You will ride with me into battle and we shall come out victorious!” He shouted, holding up his father’s sword that was his father’s before him and so forth. It was named Humkai in their language, Acktorian, meaning bringer of death. It was much broader than normal swords with gold lining that had diamonds and pearls encrusted on the handle. Raiden helped his uncle and lead the way for the others out of the dark dungeon and to the infirmary to get the much-needed help they deserved.
As they prepared for the battle a messenger came to Bridgette’s room, “A letter, Raiden, from your mother.” Agneta grabbed the letter and started reading it out loud. “My darling, as of now I’m sure you know about the spell cast on you as a child by the fae, Magdala. As I’m sure Agneta has turned you against me, I will not give up this throne, or the power. If it’s a war you want then it’s a war you’ll have my sweet boy, I will not fight but I will send Zornan. I have a plan. Your Mother.” Bridgette wearing a long flowing sheer light blue dress walked over to Raiden and wrapped her arms around him. Something was comforting in just being around him, she didn’t quite know how to put it. All she knew was that she finally felt whole and knew she could comfort him.
“Raiden, there’s something else you have to know about Magdala’s spell.” Seti stood up from a chair in the corner of the room still weak; he slowly made his way toward Raiden as Agneta rushed to his side. Seti had a build similar to Raiden, a trait the family shared as Raiden’s father, Rodan had the same. He had short bright red hair like his daughter and red stubble on his face along with a mustache. He had a long scar running down his right leg and along his right cheek. “I was there next to your father and mother when the fae put the spell on you. As you were slowly encased with ice your father told you that your true love would break the spell. Magdala said that because of the ice around your mother’s heart, it would reflect on you. Your mother harbored hateful feelings toward your father and so she killed him, two days after the fae’s spell. My boy, your father didn’t want to upset you, by telling you that you had to kill your mother. He wanted to talk to the fae, But your mother, enraged, had Zornan kill her. I was put into the dungeon because I confronted her, about killing your father, there’s something else.” He paused for a moment and put his hand on Raiden’s shoulder as Seti’s piercing blue eyes meet his. “Your father had another son, with another woman before you were born, his name is Theron. Your grandmother, Tressa, sent him away.”
“What?” These are all the words that Raiden could muster, as he slowly moved away from his uncle to the other side of the room.
“You were too young to remember but your mother had another baby, and your father, as well as everyone, had doubts about paternity. So, after the baby was born, your father and grandmother also sent her away, her name is Nylah.”
Raiden slowly fell down the wall and put his hands on his head. “Uncle, I don’t understand, I have two other siblings?” He brushed back his hair out of his eyes, as he stood back up letting out a loud sigh. He doesn’t quite know how to process his feelings, all he knew was that it was all too much at one time. “Tomorrow the war begins and our battle starts, we should retire, we ride at dawn.” As Raiden, Seti, Agneta, and a hundred others back their rightful king, they sit upon horses that could withstand the cold from genetic mutation and a few large polar bears. The thick fog rolled in as the dawn approached, the start of the bright light appeared over the ice, and the bears yawned as the day began. Raiden looked over his shoulder at a soldier and gave a quick nod as the man blew into a horn to alert the king’s men into a ready stance. A faint horn is heard from the other side for a ready battle. “Ride with me today and I promise to be a fair and just King, I know you have suffered under the Ice Queen’s reign, help me fulfill the fae, Magdala’s spell. Help me, avenge my father, my fallen kin, and defeat the Ice Queen!” Raiden shouted as he proudly sat upon a white horse, and unsheathed Humkai as he thrusted it into the air. They swiftly rode into battle with the wind at their backs meeting the Ice Queen’s forces in the middle of the snow, Raiden looked on as his sword met with Zornan’s while searching for his mother on the bloody battlefield. As the battle continued Raiden caught a glimpse of Zornan escaping through the hidden mines, as the carnage lay before him he did one last blow through the chest of his foe.
He wiped the blood from his face as Seti approached him, “Zornan fled, my King, where is he going? Where is Yolandi?”
Just as the words left Seti’s lips, Raiden’s eyes grew larger as he uttered, “Bridgette! The others!” He nodded at a guardsman to round up the remaining prisoners that surrendered, as he, Seti, Agneta, and three other guardsmen set off back underground to catch his mother, and Zornan before any harm could befall the others.
“How are you, my dear?” Asked Mrs. Watson as she slowly walked over to the chair next to Bridgette and sat down, covering her legs in a red checkered blanket. A little lost in thought, Clara grabbed Bridgette’s hand and asked again. “Mrs. Clara, I don’t know how we got here,” Bridgette answered with tears welling in her eyes. “We took an adventure, Dear, that’s how we got to this lovely, secret, cold, magical kingdom in the middle of nowhere.” She laughed as she grabbed her handkerchief, so Bridgette could wipe away her tears. “I’m worried about Raiden, and I know it’s silly, seeing as how I just met him.” Bridgette wiped away her tears as she stared at Clara. “When I was seventeen I met a tall, lean, blonde-haired, green-eyed twenty-three-year-old man. I was walking in the park with my Scottish terrier, Jax when this man bumped right into me. He asked me to dinner and by dessert, I was head over heels for this clumsy handsome man. We marri
“Be on your guard, my mother isn’t far,” Raiden informed his uncle and the raiding party behind him, they hastened through the hallway leading toward Bridgette’s room. As they approached Dr. Jasper was outside the door. “Raiden,” Jasper spotted him coming down the hall. “Bridgette, Miles, and Sean are missing. One of your guardsmen took us and told the others would come once the place was secure. Your guardsmen were infiltrated, I killed two men on the way back here. Raiden she’s not here, she’s not here.” Raiden gathered his men together and ordered a search of the underground kingdom. “Jasper, I need you with me and Agneta!” Raiden put his hand on Jasper’s back. Heading through the halls he told Agneta he wanted to go to his mother’s room, upon opening the door they heard grunting. He swung the double doors open and he saw Zornan, Yolandi, and three of her followers dressed as guardsmen. He stepped forward and notices Bridgette tied up. Yolan
“Your Grace, we need to kill Shuntha,'' Seti walked alongside Raiden as he made his way to the icy throne. The throne wasn’t made of ice but metal that was painted white, it was almost a century old. It didn’t rust, it wasn’t worn down, the paint wasn’t chipped, and it looked like it had just been crafted. Five fairies that were part of the kingdom forged the throne with magic, the fairies were once respected and loved; until King Atticruss and Queen, Tressa feared them and spread hatred amongst the people. “Enough death Uncle, I know he is an enemy, but we’ve had enough death here.” Raiden sat on the throne as his eyes shifted to the side, he watched men bring in the similar feminine throne as they placed it next to his. They bowed and left as Raiden and Seti stared in its direction. “The Queen’s throne?” Seti questioned as he made his way up to the empty chair. “I thought it lost after my brother died, your mother proclaimed herself the indisputable Qu
“Ealdormen, I have gathered this council for the heir apparent.” Ealdorman Leif Deshanel slowly stood from his chair addressing the five older gentlemen gathered around the large wooden table. “We should discuss young Raiden Zanzibar’s reign, and this new woman he is fond of.” Piped up a man sitting on the side of Leif. He had long, thinning gray hair that fell to his sunken cheeks with a large gray mustache buried under an elongated crooked nose. He was going blind guiding him loyally as his large brown Newfoundland dog, Rexus. All of the Ealdormen wore long white robes to signify their long-standing loyalty to the kingdom; they were the oldest of men there. They were put on the council to help govern the kingdom, some would say more powerful than the monarchs themselves. They could deny any heir out of fear for the wellness of the realm, and sentence any man they deem fit to death for the same reason. “Quite right, Ealdorman Silas Tryon, quite right!” A bal
“My love, I can not go into the council with you, but I will be right here when you get out.” Raiden held onto Bridgette’s shoulders as he looked deep into her almond-shaped blue eyes. He hugged her tightly, kissed her forehead, then leaned forward to knock on the big wooden doors. As they opened he was greeted by two large guards, they moved aside letting Bridgette enter. “Ms. Bridgette Hawthorne, you were summoned before the council on this day, what say you?” Bellowed Ealdorman Amos as he sat on the other side of the long wooden table. She stood still with her hands in front of her, nervously taking a deep breath. “Well, this council is waiting!” Amos got louder as he stared her down. “Say you come of your own accord and are at the mercy of the council,” Ealdorman Leif whispered to her, smiling. His seat was at the opposite end of Ealdorman Amos. “I come of my own accord and am at the mercy of the council.” She kept her head d
“Ms. Bridgette Hawthorne, you were summoned before the council, what say you?” Ealdorman Amos started as he cleared his throat to get the attention of his fellow Ealdormen. “I come of my own accord and am at the mercy of the council.” Bridgette closed her eyes, slightly dipped her head, and turned her hands palm up as she sat in the large chair next to Ealdorman Leif. “Ms. Bridgette Hawthorne you are brought before the council on this day. We the Ealdormen of this council have educated you on our history, our culture, and our customs.” Ealdorman Leif leaned forward on his staff. “We understand that you wish to marry Prince Raiden?” Ealdorman Silas spoke up leaning on the long table to hear better. “I do, Ealdorman Silas.” She put her hands together as Rexus came under the table and put his head in her lap. “We will grant you this, under a condition.” Ealdorman Eagan leaned back in his chair as he paused. “You will take an Ealdorma
“Nice to see you finally awake, Ms. Hawthorne.” Ealdorman Amos exhaled sitting in a chair next to the bed in the dark. Bridgette screamed as she grabbed the cover and quickly sat up in bed. “Why are you here?” “You’re late!’’ The Ealdorman paused. “ We have so many things to go through and you are late!” He stood up and moved away from the bed. “You can’t be in here!” She grabbed a pillow and gripped it tightly against her chest. “This is absurd.” “This isn’t absurd, you are late, that is absurd.” Amos raised his voice while rolling his eyes and leaned on his long staff with both hands swaying. “I was let in by your page at the door.” He pointed his boney finger to the door as a young blonde girl quickly closed it on the other side. “I didn’t know I had to do something today,” Still clutching the pillow as she looked around the room realizing Raiden wasn’t there. “He isn’t late, I’m sure. Get dressed,
“Bridgette, your Queen-to-be, and I are ecstatic to announce that the children from the Keeper’s Ward will finally have loving families! Please, come and adopt a child.” Raiden looked over at Bridgette smiling as she kept her eyes on the children towards the back of the room. She clapped her hands which prompted the crowd to copy, she watched as Jaqnie took the eager children to the grand ballroom so that they could run around as the people started to follow. Just as the crowd made their way into the ballroom the doors closed abruptly. Sheamus appeared from the shadows, with blue paint across his eyes, shirtless carrying his lucky silver ax. “Sheamus, what are you doing?” Raiden inquired as his hand immediately shielded Bridgette. “I’m here for your lovely doll, King of Nothing,” Sheamus smiled showing his missing teeth while narrowing his focus on Bridgette. “Sheamus, you ox’s ass! You dare come here to propose this bullshit?” Seti grab
"Understand Your Highness that nothing like this has ever happened, not in my lifetime and not in any of the ledgers," Ealdorman Saxon Englund stated as he struggled to stand up from the table. "Yes, I understand perfectly well what you are saying, Ealdorman Saxon I understand what you are all saying. But, I will be ushering in a new era when I am fully crowned, I will be adopting Easton and giving him my surname." Raiden spoke up as he stared down each old man sitting across the table. "But, Your Highness I must fully interject..." Ealdorman Eagon Dutton uttered as he raised his voice trying to be heard. "Ealdormen, hear me, I will be adopted Easton, giving him my surname, and giving him a family, something that poor boy needs." Raiden held up his hand to shush the whispers and objects from the old men. "He will be my son in name, he will have no claim to the throne, he will not be first in line, that will fall to Bridgette and I children. I will bring him up in royalty, the royal
"Handsome," Bridgette called out to Raiden as he walked toward his study. "I know we have our wedding and coronation to plan for, but I've been thinking. We need to find those kids a home, I think we should hold another adoption day." "That sounds like an excellent idea my love," Raiden walked back over to his fiance with a smile on his face as he wrapped her in his arms and lightly kissed the top of her head. "Last time didn't go so well, but Ealderman Leif told me that he believes people will adopt. It's been so long since they could and there are so many families that don't have any children." "I think that is a grand idea," Ealderman Silas yelled out as he interrupted the couple. "Apologizes for eavesdropping Your Royal Highness, I came to ask your promised if she wanted to make wedding plans." "That would be a wonderful idea Ealdorman Silas if these children all had homes. I will come with you to plan another adoption day." Bridgette smiled as made her way over to the old man
“Fascinating, don’t you think Uncle?” Bridgette took her uncle aside into a hallway as they watched people nod their heads as they noticed her presence. “Ealdorman Silas yipped in celebration. Amazingly, they used thuribles as the Romans or Catholics do in ceremonies.” She acknowledged each person that nodded their head in passing with a smile or nod. “Amazing really, at first I didn’t think much of it, but having no contact with the rest of the world and still having these things in common is astonishing.” “Yes, it is remarkable, though I wish you would have stayed in school to finish your Ph.D. in history.” Dr. Hawthorne replied as Ajay appeared seemingly out of thin air. “You were majoring in history?” Ajay asked cocking his head to the side. “This is something new I did not know,” Raiden walked up next to Ajay almost a foot taller standing side by side he overshadowed him. “Yes,” Bridgette said flatly walking out of the hallway. “You would become a doctor like
“I’ll never be able to make this right to her,” Raiden stared off into the distance as Agneta was putting on his armor. He was refusing to make eye contact for fear he might see the sympathy in her eyes, and right now he needed to keep a clear head. “No, don’t say that, she loves you!” Agneta replied as she pulled the leather straps to tighten his breastplate. “Bridgie is the most wonderful person I know, she reminds me so much of my grandmother, Olive, her looks, her mannerisms, everything. My grandmother was wonderful, she was loved by all and understood the world, she never tried to hide anything, and my Bridgie is just like her, she loves you, she will have nothing to forgive, you are her life, now save her!” Dr. Hawthorne said as he came up behind Raiden putting his hand on his shoulder in comfort. Raiden held back a sniffle and cleared his throat as he pulled down his shirt. “I will get her back and kill the Ainsleys.” His voice changed as he gathered the black paint a
Raiden looked up as he heard the woman he loved in peril. He followed the horror that echoed through the halls and his mind, with his heart still heavy from his Uncle and now this, the woman that saved him, he shuddered to think what made her yell such a blood-curdling scream. “Bridgette!” He yelled out as if to tell her he was on his way as if to reassure her he had an army at his back ready to slice down anyone in his path. “Did that come from the cells?” Miles asked as he held his bleeding arm they ran through the halls without saying another word. They knew what the other was thinking, get Bridgette and kill Sheamus and Coffrey. As they passed the rooms they heard a faint grunt and a crash. “Go to Bridgette,” Miles said as he headed toward the monarch’s chamber. “I’ll handle this!” He twisted an axe in one hand and held his dagger in the other, with one motion he swiftly kicked the door open. “Agneta!” He threw his weapons down and ran to her side to help her to he
