Slip up

Kathleen slapped Rita across her face. Rita held her cheek and stared at Kathleen, wondering why she did that.

“So you couldn’t hear me calling you? Who the hell do you think you are?” Kathleen fumed.

“I had the sudden urge to throw up. I had to use the bathroom immediately.” Rita retorted, steeling her self to avoid any tears from escaping her eyes as her throat was throbbing already.

“Oh really now? Why are you throwing up? Are you sick? Do you have an infection? Is it air borne?” Kathleen questioned, moving away from her.

“I’m just a little sick, that’s all.” Rita responded as she walked past Kathleen.

“Okay, you are obviously fine now. The shelf won’t move itself. Get to work. I want it close to the door this time.” Kathleen ordered and Rita turned to her wide eyed.

“The shelf?” She asked again as Kathleen lowered herself on the couch and folded her legs.

“Yes, Richard. You are not deaf.”
