A big step, finally meeting the parents! Thanks for reading!
Kat’s POV By the time dinner was cleared and dessert was about to be served, they had managed to extract what felt like every detail of the last twenty-one years. Raphe briefly mentioned my mother’s passing but the twins quickly steered the conversation away from that topic, probably having felt my discomfort through our bond. I had been talking so much, I hadn’t realized how much water I’d consumed in an effort to keep my mouth from getting too dry. My bladder was about to burst! “Alpha, Luna, could you excuse me for just a minute? I need to find the ladies’ room.” I acknowledged them as I stood up. “Of course, darling! But please don’t use our titles. We are Mom and Dad to you. Or you can use our first names for now if you prefer.” Rachael told me. I smiled in return before turning away. I really did need to pee but honestly, I was ready for a break from the conversation as well. Upon entering the restroom, a pretty brunette she-wolf was standing at the sink touching up her make
Ryan’s POV “What the fuck just happened?” I wondered aloud, looking at my brother. Reegan growled in frustration but quickly stopped when our mother scolded us. “Son, language!” She barked at me. “Reegan, stop growling. You may be an animal but there is no need to act like one! Now talk to me. What’s going on?” “I have no idea!” Reegan shrugged dejectedly. “Everything was fine. We had a great day together and she was really excited to meet you. Then she leaves the table for a few minutes and when she comes back, her whole demeanor has changed.” “But, if something upset her, wouldn’t we have felt it?” I reasoned. “Boys, you know you can’t sense emotions that clearly until you’ve marked each other.” Mom said. “We can!” Reegan and I said together. “Our bond is different, Mom. It’s a long story. We’ll explain it to you later.” I promised. Right now I just wanted to make sure my angel was okay. I tugged on Reegan’s shirt. “Come on. Let’s go check on our mate.” But he wasn’t
Ryan’s POV I sat on the bed with my laptop, distracting myself with work emails while Reegan paced back and forth in front of me. He was muttering under his breath, presumably talking to his wolf, but it was driving me crazy! It was hard enough trying to keep my own emotions in check without his nervous energy on full display. After about thirty minutes, I couldn’t take it anymore. I was about to suggest we go back to check on our mate when both of our phones dinged at the same time. I dug mine out of my pocket and Reegan nearly dove to grab his off the dresser. “Your parents were really nice but meeting them just made me realize how serious things have gotten between us. I need some space to think. Please respect that and don’t come to my room tonight” The text read. “That’s not fucking happening!” Reagan roared. “Brother, stop!” I shouted back. “Forcing her to talk when she isn’t ready will only make it worse. It might even push her further away.” I tried to reason with hi
Reegan’s POV Dad wanted a full update on everything he had missed while he was away. While Ryan and I held the Alpha title outright, our father loved this pack dearly and could never fully remove himself from the daily affairs. Not that we minded. He was an amazing Alpha and mentor. We valued his input but he always gave us the freedom to make our own decisions. It had taken a lot of convincing and ultimately mom threatening to leave him here and go on vacation without him to get him to take some time off. As much as he loved the pack, he loved mom more and could never be without her for that long. Unfortunately, now, we were stuck rehashing every detail of the last month. I supposed I shouldn’t complain since it was occupying our time until Kat finished assisting Christian, but I was finding it damn difficult to focus. My wolf was pacing in my head, complaining about being away from his mate for too long. If he had his way, we would burst into that OR and drag her out of there.
Reegan’s POV “Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome Kat Connor to the stage for our next song of the night!” The announcer bellowed. “Well, wish me luck, gang!” Kat chirped before throwing back yet another shot and hurrying on stage. “What the fuck is she drinking?” I linked my brother as we sat back to listen to her angelic voice. As pissed as I was right now, hearing her sing made me melt every time. “I’m not sure. Maybe tequila?” He guessed. “But she’s obviously half-drunk already. We need to keep a close eye on her.” “Like I would let her out of my sight in a place like this, drunk or not.” I scoffed back. I knew what kind of guys frequented this place. Unfortunately, I’d been one of them once upon a time. Soon, the music started, breaking me out of my thoughts as Kat’s voice filled the room. She’s just a girl and she’s on fire Hotter than a fantasy . . . And all I could think was yes, she fucking is! Watching her up there, her hot body in that damn scrap of a dress,
Kat’s POV This whole night turned out to be a disaster! I had been hoping to sneak out of the pack house before the twins realized I’d left, but that plan was shot to hell when they showed up at my door before I could leave. I was dressed to the nines in the sexiest outfit I could find, desperate to regain my confidence after the devastating blow to my ego Jenna had delivered the night before. As soon as they both saw me, their eyes roamed my body like they wanted to pounce and devour me. It was almost enough to make my resolve to leave them crumble to dust. Damn mate bond! Making me want them despite their betrayal. Somehow I found the will to walk out, trying to sway my hips and exude confidence as I walked away. When I climbed into Tyler's car, Sarah and Rae were already with him. They all gushed over my outfit, telling me how hot I looked and it was just the boost I needed. I actually started to look forward to the night at that point. I loved my friends and it had been a lo
Kat’s POV I tried to shake off the anxiety my conversation with Larissa caused. All I needed was to add more drama to this night. Thankfully, when I returned to the table, it was clear everyone was having way too much fun to notice my strange mood. And right on cue, as if sensing my need to drink myself into oblivion, the waitress brought another round and I wasted no time in taking my shot before immediately ordering another. One of the twins tried to go all parental on me, telling me to slow down, but I shut that down real fast. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any more uncomfortable, Raeanne’s drunk ass thought it would be fun to share our most embarrassing memories from some of our past outings together. It was all fun and games until she started talking about an incident that involved my relationship with Jesse. She was too blitzed to realize how inappropriate it was but that didn’t stop me from wanting to crawl under the table and hide. Thankfully, Jesse got call
Kat’s POV By the time I found my voice again, we had already made it to the car and Reegan was passing me to his brother who was already sitting in the back seat. Ryan pulled me onto his lap and wrapped his arms around me, holding me tightly in his vice-like grip. “Argh! Let go of me!” I screamed at him while attempting to wiggle away. “Not happening, Angel!” Ryan grunted back as my elbow made contact with his ribs. “You are not making good choices right now and as your mates, it’s our responsibility to keep you safe!” “I already told you, I don’t need a babysitter!” I gritted out. “I’m supposed to go home with Sarah!” I was so pissed, I wanted to let Cara out so I could claw them to death but she was currently ignoring me. “The fuck you are!” Reegan bit back. “I don’t know what the fuck has been going on with you the past couple days but you aren’t going anywhere until we sort it out so you might as well relax and make yourself comfortable back there.” Whether due to the alcoh
