As Charlotte's face crumpled in anguish, my own heart plummeted. "Baby, please," I pleaded with desperation. "Let me explain. I was drunk, I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

But my words fell on deaf ears. Charlotte's face twisted in rage, her voice cold and hard as ice.

"You cheated on me," she spat, her words a knife to my heart. "You lied to me, betrayed me, and now you expect me to believe you?

"I should have known better," Charlotte snarled, her eyes blazing with fury. "I should have known you were nothing but a liar and a cheater. Well, you can have Eleanor. You deserve each other."

She turned her back on me, storming into the bathroom to pack her things.

"Charlotte, please," I begged, desperation rising in my voice. "Give me a chance to explain. I made a mistake, a terrible mistake, but I love you.

Just as Charlotte began shoving clothes into her suitcase, a small voice piped up from the doorway.
