Chapter 5

Daniel Adam wasn't much of a family person, his family was taken from him when he was so young. The death of his parents and older brother during an attack on their pack had Daniel in such a state of shock his young mind couldn’t process what had happened and even after such a great loss he never cried about it not even once. It was then that head alpha Reynolds a man he had grown to call uncle, his father's best friend decided to take him in and raise him as his own. In his teens, Daniel was quiet and reserved, He wasn't keen on playing or interacting with teens his own age instead he spent all his time training and learning war tactics from his seniors. At the age of 15, he joined the pack’s military camp where he spent the rest of his teenage years training under the best pack warriors. Being a true blood meant the young alpha was not only stronger, he was faster more articulate with heightened sense, and healed faster than anyone else and by the age of 20, the young true blood excelled and was granted the title General.

Currently, Daniel was in his room shrouded in an eerie silence, only the soft sound of chirping crickets could be heard. Daniel had his eyes fixed on a distant point as he let out a deep sigh. His chest rose and fell with the slow, frustrated breath, his shoulders sagging slightly under the weight of his own annoyance.

He rubbed his temples, as he felt the tension build up in his head. Who was that lady? Why did she have such a powerful effect on him? He couldn't even remember why he ran away in the first place.

Convenience, maybe? Or was it because he had never felt a surge of emotion like that before? Whatever the reason, it seemed like a mistake now.

She was an omega that he was sure, but her scent was weird not unpleasant just weird. Maybe because he had never seen or even come across an omega in person and if it wasn’t for his wolf he would not have been able to precisely identify her rank Daniel added in his head.

The funny part is, her scent wasn't off-putting, it only made him want to smell more of it, the omega was pure mystery and Daniel couldn't help but be intrigued by the beautiful stranger. With a muttered curse, Daniel pushed himself out of his chair and strode over to his bed his mind still clouded by the memory of the omega he just met.

That night Penelope couldn't sleep, she couldn't stop thinking about the black-haired male no matter how much she tried, she just couldn't stop. How could a stranger make her feel so safe leaving her wanting to be in his presence and feel his touch? Penelope knew it was dangerous to be having these kinds of thoughts, she was married and her mate was laying right next to her while she thought about a strange man. She looked down at the sleeping male beside her who was oblivious to her inner struggle. “I’ll probably forget about everything tomorrow” she whispered to herself. And just like that, all was forgotten by morning or so it seemed. Penelope had woken up to the sound of birds chirping and although her toom was still dark due to the thick curtains covering her windows she knew her day had to begin. She quickly took a bath, dressed up, and went in search of her husband so she could ask him for the keys to the library since the previous day’s attempt did not go as planned. Once at the entrance of the alpha’s office, she knocked lightly “Come in” a voice from inside the office said. Penelope’s heart was racing afraid that her husband would deny her request, her mind was so focused on the library that she did not even notice that that was not her husband’s voice. She slowly opened the door and immediately her hands started to shake her heart stopped the moment her nose got a whiff of a scent she thought she had forgotten.

“That smell! Why was he here?” She thought as she stepped further into the room where she saw a man standing with his back facing her, the smell of lavender and sandalwood completely engulfed her making Penelope feel numb and frozen still. The tall man slowly turned and faced Penelope, His eyes locked into Penelope’s, his gaze piercing, as if seeing right through to the omega’s very soul.

Daniel was just as stunned to see the beautiful stranger from the previous, her soft delicate features made more prominent by the sunlight, making her glow and seem more angelic. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen with her beautiful red hair that complimented her skin, all he could think of was how perfect she looked, his thought immediately coming to a halt at the sound of her voice.

“I'm sorry, I thought the head Alpha was here" Penelope managed to say her voice barely above a whisper, and for the first time she was able to take in the man's chiseled features, he had high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and a small, button nose. His raven hair ties neatly in a bun. His fair skin had a warm, golden undertone. His eyes held darkness and possession, with an intense, piercing gaze.

A shiver ran down Penelope’s spine, her heart racing with a mix of fear and something else, excitement perhaps.

The air seemed to vibrate with tension, the silence between them thick and heavy, like a challenge waiting to be met.

Daniel’s silence was unnerving, his eyes boring into Penelope like a predator sizing up its prey.

Penelope tried to maintain eye contact, but her eyes were like moths in search of a flame. Daniel’s eyes were still fixed intently on Penelope, his gaze never wavering, as he began to walk towards her, his movements slow, fluid and confident. Penelope instinctively backed away from the alpha this however seemed to anger the alpha, a low growl could be heard and it stopped Penelope right in her tracks.

Daniel continued to approach Penelope but just before he could reach her the door flew open revealing the head alpha himself. “Ah Daniel, I see you have already met my wife Penelope” Alpha Reynolds said as he walked further into his office. “Wife?” David replied still unsure if he had heard his eyes widening at the thought of what that meant.
