Chapter one

2 years later.

Todd pressed the intercom in his office and few seconds later the door to his office opened and Jen walked briskly into the office looking all professional and said “boss, you called" Todd who didn’t look up from his paper work said “how is the recruitment going, I need a new PA as soon as possible" Jen cleared her throat quietly and said “the interview is slated for tomorrow and from the list of applicants you vetted, I believe quiet a number of them are qualified for the work” Todd looked up suddenly, his grey eyes looking into her slightly brown ones as he said “I see, well, being qualified won’t cut it this time, I want to host the interview myself" Jen’s eyes widen but she quickly hid her reaction as she said “okay sir, I’ll let the HR department know you’ll be presiding over the interview” with that she walked out of the office and let out her breath, then she grabbed her phone and dialled her friend’s number, as soon as the call connect she said “girl, you’ll better bring your A game tomorrow, boss man is going to preside over the interview and I know you really need this job" the soft voice on the other end said “I see, thanks for the heads up Jen"

Amber watched as one after the other people went in for their interview and come back out looking disappointed or sad, they would go in will a bright countenance and come back feeling down, her blue eyes scanned her environment and she stood up a few times to smoothen her wrinkled blouse, one of the applicant who came out from the CEO’s office looked at her as if she was disgusted by the sight of her, the perky miss, raised her chin and snort her nose at Amber as if to say “why are you even here" Amber looked away from the hostile applicant and the perky miss walked away, it was getting close to her turn and she was feeling more and more anxious, she bit her lower lip severally to keep herself from shaking and she kept talking to herself quietly “you can do this Amber, you’ve got this" Next!! She heard and looked up only to realise she is the next that was being called, she stood up quickly and walked towards the office but missed a step and fell, getting her clothe more messed up, she stood up awkwardly, dusted herself and walked into the office, she heard the faint sound of laughter from other applicants that were left but she dared not look back.

Amber walked into a spacious office, with cabinets containing all sorts of book and drawing at both sides, the wall was painted white and most of the furniture there was black, the colour combination made her open her mouth in awe of the person who must have decorated the place or chose the designs, she looked at the man sitting across the table from her and she could tell he was an handsome man, handsome and powerful was a strong combination, all the confidence she had gathered dissipated within two minutes, her awkward self was no match for this powerful man who was currently going through a file in front of him, she heard his sharp voice say “sit" and she sat down fast looking anywhere but at the man in front of her “Miss Amber Curt, why do you think you’re qualified for this work” Todd Anderson asked and looked up into a pair of blue eyes, the picture on her application form had been blurred so as soon as he saw her face his eyes widen from shock which he quickly covered up but luckily for him, she wasn’t even looking at him, he feign ignorance and said “Miss Amber,  look up and answer the question" “I, I, I,” she stammered she lost her train of thoughts looking into beautiful grey eyes, she studied his face and couldn’t find any flaw, she was lost in her wishful thinking but remember what was at stake if she doesn’t get the job so she quickly cleared her throat pretending something was stuck in her throat before, she looked up to boost her confidenceas she said “over the last two weeks that I submitted my application for this job, I have taken my time to get familiar with some of the terms used in construction and real estate because I know that it is not only enough to know how to be a good PA but I also need to know how to be a good real estate personnel PA, with that in mind, I visited some on going construction site to learn more about the daily life of construction workers and have also taken time to study Mr Todd’s preferences and style of work" she said and quickly looked down, not able to hold his gaze anymore, Todd nodded and said “huh, I see” then he said you can go now, as she walked out of the office she heard the shout of “next" she walked quietly to one of the offices around there and tap the door lightly.
