Chapter five

Meeting Petra.

At the general Monday meetings, the next week Amber resumed, there was a lady in attendant who Amber had not met before, she was a contract staff and only comes when needed, she handles the painting and some other finishes job for the company, while the chief technical officer gave a run down of the progress of work and the next phase target, Petra who is the strange person to Amber raised her hand to say something, she asked when the screeding on the block of flats will be completed and when the painting can commence, the technical officer answered her and the meeting continued, Amber leaned toward Jen who was sitting beside and asked quietly, “Jen, who is the lady there" she asked as she pointed towards Petra in a concealed way, Jen leaned in and said to her “that’s Petra, I’ll give you full detail after the meeting" Amber nodded and sat upright, after the meeting Petra went into the CEO’s office, though she was a contract staff she was also one of the shareholders. Amber watched her body movement and language, though she was a clumsy person and a goody two shoe, she was quick at picking up on a person true nature, she felt a slight discomfort when she saw the manner in which Petra walked around, Amber rushed into Jen’s office asking for the full details of Petra, Jen smiled in a coy manner and asked “are you also in love with Mr Todd now" Amber raised her head sharply and said “what" Jen laughed at her expression and said “don’t worry, you won’t be the first or the last one to fall for his charm" “am not falling for" Amber was saying when Jen raised her hand to cut her off “all am saying is, alot of ladies has fallen for his charm and some are bold enough to say it while others like Petra hides under the umbrella of business to act like the new mistress of the company, though since Todd lost his wife two years ago, I don’t think he has dated any other woman but am sure Petra is got her claws ready to devour him if given the chance” “what, wait can you say this in a way I’ll understand" Amber asked am Jen shook her head saying “you’re way too innocent to know all the gimmicks ladies use this days, anyway all am saying is, Petra is obsessed with Todd but she acts like all she cares about is the business meanwhile when Todd is not watching she likes to exercise rights and privileges that belongs to Todd’s woman, no one as challenged her so far because most staff feels since she is also a shareholder they should try and get along with her"  Jen said and shrugged her shoulder, Amber closed her mouth that she opened while listening to Jen and said “so, she wants Todd but she doesn’t deserve him right" “right” Jen said.

“What is this” shouted Petra throwing the cup of coffee on Amber, “you swine, how could you give me that and call it coffee" Amber opened her mouth wide in shock she had never imagined that Petra would react this way, she had inquired from Lauretta at the kitchenette before bring the sweeten coffee to Petra and now she was throwing a fit, “but but Lauretta said you like your coffee sweeten, she even made sure I put the same number of sugar they use for you before I arrived, so how did I get it wrong" Amber cried out, outside the CEO’s office Jen and some other staffs gathered close to the office trying to eavesdrop on the conversation, everyone had an encounter with Petra as a new staff and when you happen to be a lady yours will be the worse, Todd  had been silent for a while but suddenly he said “stop" sharply enough that it caught all their attention, “Amber wait outside” he said and turned to Petra, everyone outside the office ran away as soon as they heard the approaching footstep, soon afterward Petra came out looking somewhat displeased, she walked briskly out of the office and went straight for the lift, Jen went into Todd’s office cause she was summoned, she was asked to get a change of clothes for Amber, she was given a card to quickly get her something to wear and Jen rushed to a new by boutique, she came back an hour later and met Amber in a office, tissues littered the floor around her, Her head was on the table as if she was sleeping but her face was visible which showed her eyes were widely opened, she raised her head to look at Jen who stretched the bag in her hands to Amber, a confused Amber collected the bag and opened it, she was shocked to see a new pair of clothing “How” she asked and Jen smiled and said “Todd, but! Have never seen him do that before, I mean we’ve all gone through an encounter with Petra and he had never helped any of us before, usually he walks away like its not his business but for some reason, he actually interfered, hmm" she heaved a sigh and purse her lip in thought, her eyes popped widely as she said “he likes you" Amber laughed nervously and exclaimed “what!!!, that is the most ridiculous thing have heard lately" she chuckled and said to herself “like me, like, no way”
