In this post-apocalyptic world, all the supernatural species in the world belong to what is referred to as The Hidden. They have banded together to survive the humans destroying themselves and each other in hidden colonies around the world. Amara, future alpha of her pack, and her secret lover Trent, future alpha of an enemy pack, are caught in a love triangle of sorts. Amara’s parents keep trying to push her towards Tobias, alpha of an ally pack. Now the Council Collective is planning on going out to find human survivors and bring them back to integrate into their colony. Amara and Trent decide to go public and tell their families they are together. Alpha John, Trent’s father has other plans. He sends Trent on a mission to pick up survivors, making Amara think he has abandoned her. Not long after, Amara finds out she is pregnant. Amara chooses to go after Trent, and unbeknownst to him she discovers his deep dark secret. She runs away from Trent and everything she knows and ends up finding the last thing she thought she would ever find in this wreck of a world. Could she really have found her fated mate after all this time? And in a human? Will she go back to Trent? Or will she give this unexpected twist of fate a chance?

If he keeps this up much longer, this entire room is going to be able to smell my arousal. Trent keeps looking over at me, sending me these knowing, smoldering looks. He is propelling me back into memories from the other night and all the things that he did to me. I am completely lost in the reverie of his intoxicating smell and his tantalizing touch. I am vaguely aware of the discussion happening amongst the council members, but all I can really focus on is wanting to feel this beautiful man inside me again.
Suddenly my father snaps at me, trying to get my attention. I look at him, defiantly, the great Alpha Carlos doesn’t scare me. I find him making the connection, looking back and forth between Trent and I making eyes at each other across the table. I should care if he figures it out, but I really don’t, in fact I hope he does. We are in a Council Collective meeting with every pack, coven, and group leader and their heirs or second in commands. I really should be focused and paying attention, but I just can’t help myself, the man drives me wild. I study Trent from across the table. He is speaking now, moving his beautiful strong jaw, his green eyes intently analyzing the vampire leader he is arguing with, his blonde hair longer on the top and styled to the side. The man is delicious. Must be the reason why I just can’t let him go. Even though I have tried several times to walk away from him, we just keep coming back together, in secret of course.
Meeting is finally adjourned, and I get up. I can’t approach him, everyone would see, but I at least want to get as close to him as I can. I want to, no, I need to, smell him, feel his body heat close to me. I get closer to him, and right on cue, here comes Tobias and intercepts me.
“Hey gorgeous, you got plans tomorrow night?” He says with a wide grin.
I look up at him and smile, he has always been a sweet friend to me. I know he wishes we could be more, as does my father, but my heart is just not in it. Alpha Tobias is the leader of the Sierra Pack. He is a bit older than me, tall, lean muscular build, short brown hair and deep brown soulful eyes.
“No, actually, I’m free” I answer with a smile.
He lights up. “Great! Violet and I were talking about how we haven’t all hung out in while; we need to get out and go to Club Moonlight.”
“Count me in!” I said excitedly. He is right, it’s been far too long since I have spent time with friends. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Trent studying us from a distance, clenching his jaw. He looks completely put out by my interaction with Tobias. I know they have never gotten along, so I am not sure if this is jealousy, rivalry, or both. Either way, it makes me feel good in a weird way to see him bothered.
“Sounds good. I need to blow off some steam with all of this change we are looking at.”
“Yeah, it’s a lot to take in. I can’t believe we may finally be allowing humans in. Although I feel like the vampires are just looking for new snacks.” Tobias says with a mischievous grin. We laugh while looking around the almost empty meeting hall to make sure we weren’t heard.
This new reality we are living in has brought about so many changes and compromise. Between the destruction from war and the human population being practically decimated through biological warfare, there wasn’t much of a world left. The humans destroyed each other and a good part of their world warring amongst themselves. Now they live off the land, like they are back in the medieval ages. No running water, no technology, no electricity, and that is only if they were lucky enough to survive. The Hidden World Collective, our leaders, had seen it coming and had started planning decades ago. They gathered the smartest of our kind, from all of the supernatural races, and created small isolated, self-sustaining colonies in different corners of the earth, away from all the evil.
We happened to live on one of the ocean colonies, a city on stilts if you will. We were built on rock solid platforms that were fixed into the seabed. Between advanced building technology and a little magic from our witchy neighbors, we were in a good place. All of The Hidden had survived and thrived, and so it is well beyond time we helped those that are left. The Hidden are all the supernatural beings that inhabit earth: werewolves, witches, mermaids, fairies, and vampires. Now with the possibility of bringing in humans amongst us, I guess we wouldn’t be “the hidden” much longer.
There was a lengthy discussion at today’s meeting and now all that was left was for the different factions to choose to sign the agreement or withhold their support. The vampires were very vocal with their support. They survive on synthetic blood we are able to create, and donations from willing colony citizens. The hope is that there would be willing donors amongst the rescued humans. The better the vampires are taken care of, the more we can ensure peace, and that they wouldn’t go back to the mainland to hunt down and feed on the few human survivors there are left. The covens seemed to be indifferent, as was the representative from the merfolk. They truly didn’t live with us, but as a species belonging to The Hidden, they always sent a representative to our Council Collective meetings. Some of the werewolf packs were hoping humans would choose to join their ranks, but more specifically, they were hoping to find their fated mates amongst them.
Fated mates in the world we live in seems like such a faraway concept to me sometimes. This is a gift from Moon Goddess that we were no longer likely to find. Before everything changed, we would travel to different packs, or go to annual meets to find our fated mates outside of our own packs. With that being a thing of the past, most wolves now tried to find love, or at least agreeable matches, like what my alpha father and Tobias had tried to concoct between Tobias and myself. At least Tobias was coming from a good place, I know he cared for me, and we have been friends almost our entire lives.
I say goodbye to Tobias and give him a hug, catching a glimpse of Trent glaring in our direction over Tobias’ shoulder. Tobias walks away and past Trent, visibly tensing as he passes in front of Trent, who busies himself sorting through paperwork. I look around and realize that we were the last ones left in the meeting hall. He looks up at me and our eyes connect. One smoldering look from him and I feel myself coming undone.
“So, what’s going on with you and Tobias? You making Alpha Carlos’ dreams come true?” He asks accusingly, his obvious jealousy on full display, anger flashing in his green eyes.
I roll my eyes. “Come on, you know we are nothing but good friends.” I decide not to tell him about going out with him and Violet tomorrow. No reason to further provoke him when he is already worked up.
He walks towards me, pushing me into the edge of the table. He plants his hands on each side of me, pressing his muscular body up against mine and lightly kisses my neck, slowly working his way up to my ear and finally my lips. As I take my hand and bring it up under his shirt, I start moving it up his chiseled torso, feeling every ridge and groove of his muscular stomach and chest. Suddenly, the door opens and my mother walks in.
“Amara!” she gasps. “Explain yourself! You know what, don’t. Come now, your father is about to come back for you, and I can’t deal with him and this right now.”
I let my mother pull me away, turning back for a second to catch that last glimpse of Trent looking at me and shaking his head.
***POV: Imogen***After a lengthy brainstorming session, we split up and Violet took me to see the kids. I wanted to check in on them, but wanted to give them a chance to get reacquainted with their parents after being apart for so long. It was good to see them and they are definitely settling in.So now we are getting ready to go out as a group for the night. The big buzz is the ball that will be happening in a few days. Apparently they have already had a few off colony guests portal in, and it’s apparently a big deal.
***POV: Trent***That didn’t go the way that I wanted it too, but lately nothing has. Amara saying I don’t love her, that I’m not capable of loving her… how dare she? She doesn’t know what my feelings are, what I am thinking. At least she has the capacity to understand. Heather is not even capable.Being around Heather makes me feel like I am actually losing brain cells. She is not an Alpha, she is just not capable of understanding me. And now I am stuck with her, thanks to my pup growing inside her.
***POV: Cole**The next day we are all assembled at Tobias’ packhouse bright and early. Of course, ‘we’ are missing Amara, but Tobias, Imogen, Violet, and Cyrus are all here. Tobias gathered us to share all of the things he has uncovered about Imogen and I.We sit around the large table in his dining area, and one of the wolves from his pack is busy putting out a nice breakfast spread around us.“Tobias, I appreciate the hospitality but I am dying here man, when can we just find out what is going on?” I ask, trying to not be rude, but most likely failing at this point. He looks at me knowingly. “I get that you are anxious for more information, but we are still waiting on one more person to join us before we get started.”My heart skips a beat, Amara must be coming. While I hate where we are with things, I would never turn away an opportunity to see her.
POV: TrentAmara opens the door and I barge in past her. The look on her face tells me I am completely unwelcome, but I don’t care. This woman is mine whether she wants to accept it or not. I stride in to the living room and sit down on the bigger couch. She is still standing by the open door, looking at me, assessing me, obviously trying to figure out what to do next. She closes the door and pauses there for a minute, finally turning and walking over to where I am. She sits down on the loveseat across from me.
***POV: Amara***Back at my packhouse and I can’t stop thinking about Cole. I am in a loop of replaying what just happened. I don’t know how I am supposed to do this, walk away from this feeling, abandon this gift of my fated mate. I leave my room in search of, well anyone really. I don’t see Violet, of course Imogen is now at Tobias’, my mother isn’t anywhere either. My last stop is my father’s study, and sure enough he is there. I watch him for a moment before knocking on the partially open door. He is poring over a large volume. From here it looks like our wolf directory for the other colonies, he’s probably working on finding me a match.I lightly tap on the door and go in as he looks up and smiles at me. “Where is everyone?”“Not sure, but I know your mother went out to do some “errands” on the other side of the colony, whatever that means.” He said distractedly, going back to his research.“What are you up to Papi?”“Well, I’ve spoken with some of the Council members, and it loo
***POV: Tobias***All day I have felt this incredible pull to get back to Imogen. I walk into my packhouse and I am hit with some ridiculously good smell coming from the kitchen. Imogen is perched at the stove stirring what looks like pasta sauce. She is surrounded by a handful of pack wolves, who all appear to be thoroughly enjoying her company. It throws me off a little, but not in a bad way.She says something and everyone in the room erupts into raucous laughter. I watch her, throw her head back and laugh unashamedly and it does something to me. After they settle, I am finally noticed by one of my wolves, Peter.“Hey boss.” He says, smiling at me a very relaxed and at home smile. “We were just hanging with Imogen here, she offered to make us dinner so we wouldn’t be hungry enough to eat her.” They all laugh and he wiggles his eyebrows at his own joke. They obviously don’t know she is my fated mate and their future Luna or he would have never dared make a joke like that. Imogen loo
***POV: Tobias***Luna Claudia rakes her eyes over me, as if she is trying to read my mind. I get it, it is odd for me to have requested we meet alone. We are sitting outside of her packhouse, within the walls of their private garden. In a spot like this it’s easy to forget all of the strife brewing within our colony, and even more so the strife that the rest of the world is buried in. It’s beautiful and full of blooming tropical plant life.We sit across each other, with a small table between us. She looks at me, her piercing gaze starting to turn impatient.“I’m sorry to be taking up your time Luna, I know it was a strange request.”She nods and softens her face a bit. She has always been kind to me, motherly even. “So tell me Tobias, what brings you here under these odd circumstances?”I launch into my retelling of all the things that Alpha Thomas told me. She listens quietly and thoughtfully. When I am done, I notice she is wringing her hands in her lap.“So Imogen is your mate, a
***POV: Imogen***It feels like this day has taken forever to come to an end. I really enjoyed hanging out with Amara and Violet, and getting to see all of the colony, but I am exhausted. I think it’s just an overload of new information and feelings for me to process, and it’s just taken it out of me.Violet walks me back to Tobias’ packhouse. While I am excited at the thought of seeing him, and reveling in the anticipation of getting to know him better, the fact that we are going back there and not back to Amara’s makes me sad for Cole.“Violet, you think there is any way that Amara will come to her senses about Cole?”Violet stops and turns to me. “That is such a complicated topic Imogen. I know where you are coming from, they are perfect for each other, quite literally. It’s just a lot of complication.” She sighs, looks away for a moment and then turns back to me again. “How many female Alphas have you seen?”“I guess so far I have only met Amara.” I shrug.“And that is all you wil
***POV: Tobias***My visit with Alpha Thomas was the right move. He has listened to me carefully as he always does, and put some pieces together for me that I would have never put together otherwise.“Tobias, there is a prophecy that is older than we know about two human siblings that are destined to save the werewolf race. It really isn’t talked about much, especially since the collapse, because what wolf wants to admit that their future depends on humans?”“Not talked about much? I haven’t even heard this and I am an Alpha.”“I know son, but losing your parents so early on really robbed you of years of knowledge and training that you should have gone through before becoming an Alpha. Don’t get me wrong, you have done a great job without it, but still would have been nice for you to benefit from that as others have.”I nod, momentarily losing myself in thoughts of my parents. Snapping out of it, the questions come flooding in. “So who knows about this prophecy? Where did it come from
