Mira's POV
The guard eyed me with suspicion, his gaze intense and filled with doubt as if daring me to lie, I wriggled my hands behind me with my gaze boring holes into the ground. "The man I saw you speaking with earlier, who is he ?" He questioned, his eyes filled with doubts as if he was dating me to laugh, my eyes squinted in fear of being caught, not knowing what to do. I couldn't give my father's identity away, which would lead to disaster. I decided to play the innocent I'm dumb act. I stretched my hands from my back to my front and signaled "I don't know" Before I could walk away, he grabbed my right arm making me grunt in pain," What do you mean you don't know?" He growls "Immediately you saw me, the man leaped into the forest I ain't no fool, either you tell me the truth or I'll have Beta Ethan torture you to talk". He threatened me by tightening his grip on my arm. The instant he said that panic surged through me, and I realized I was in deep trouble my mate must not know I had met up with my father, and there was no way Alpha Navier wouldn't hear of this incident, I frantically gestured to my mouth, pleading with my eyes to make him understand that I can't speak. Finally, He immediately unhanded me "You're the mute, aren't you?" He asked, with confusion in his eyes. I nodded "yes" to answer his question, " you are the one I have been looking for ", he said almost to himself " I am the inspection officer, I was told to assign you to your duties," he said, his voice softer and relaxed unlike before when he was questioning me. " Which work would you prefer, cleaning, kitchen, farming " he asked mentioning different works, that I struggled to keep up with and I tapped him to get him to slow down " Oh I forgot you're mute, Nevermind I will take you to the head Omega, she will know which work to assign you to" he said, already walking towards what I assume is the kitchen, we didn't walk for long till we got to the packs backyard. "Alpha Navier hates lazy and idle people just so you know," he said, opening the door to the kitchen. A woman in her late fifties or early forties walked up to us, greeting the guard beside me " Cole how delightful of you to Grace me with your presence" she snarled, pulling him by his ears and giving him a knock on his head. I grunt in laughter, I can't make a sound, what amazes me is the fact that an Omega has the effrontery to hit a warrior, it is forbidden to hit a warrior as they are held in high regard in my previous pack The Moons Pack " I sincerely apologize ma'am, I promise to fix your pipes tomorrow " he promised, rubbing his ears," but that hurt though, you have a strong grip in those small hands " Pushing him aside she stepped in front of me Her gaze swept over me from head to toe, as if she was evaluating my worth," Cole who's this," she asked him still looking at me. " She's Beth, the mute" he whispers to her, dragging her to the other side of the room" Alpha Ethan's mute, his second chance mate, the one he found at the mating ceremony" he continues to whisper. " If she is the Alpha's mate like you just said she is, why is she then assigned to do the dirty work in the pack house? Huh !" she questions glancing to where I stood, and she continues "I don't understand, you younger generations, shouldn't she be announced as the Luna already". "Shush! It's complicated, the word is The Alpha rejected her" he said holding a finger to his lips to keep her from shouting, they both continued to talk forgetting the fact that I was just across the room from them and I could hear them without even straining my wolf ears. Ever since I was a child I could practically hear what people were saying miles away, this skill is both a curse and a blessing, the curse is that I could hear people talking about me, the gossip, the haters spewing from their lips from miles, and the blessings are listening to nature, which I learned to control over time. After a while she walked up to me "Oh, come here dear, let's get you assigned " she said motioning for me to follow her, and I did " I hope you're okay with working in the kitchen?' she questioned me, to which I nodded "yes" which was the only reply I had to questions ever since I was born. " It's no pressure, if you're are not okay with working in the kitchen, I'm sure I can find something else" She looked at me pitifully, I just shrugged in answer, I hate being pitied, it's not as if they can change my fate which I already have resigned to, I reason within me while walking beside her till we got to the kitchen. Immediately we entered the kitchen smell of the rich aroma of cooked meat and freshly baked bread hit me, and my stomach grumbled I was hungry, and then I remembered that I hadn't eaten anything since the night of the mating ceremony where I had eaten pastries made specially for the unmated females, I guess I lost track of the time. We met the chef who came to greet the head Omega, who sneered as soon as she laid eyes on me "Who are you and what are you doing here" she shouted, pointing the iron spoon in her hand at me… "she's with me, I'm assigning her to kitchen duties from henceforth, you'll be In charge of her", the Head Omega replied, " I dare not question your orders Ellen but she doesn't even look fit for housework and will bring nothing but chaos to my kitchen" she sneers still looking at me." And she can't even speak, what use is she of to me if she can't speak".Beth's POV (contd)My heart sank, and a wave of embarrassment hit me. The chef's words cut through me like a hot knife slicing butter. Rejection is what I am used to, but hearing it from a fellow woman cuts deeper."That's enough," the head Omega rebuked her. "Everyone deserves a chance to prove their worth, and I see so much potential in her," she shouted at her."I'm sorry I didn't mean to be so cynical. How will she interact with her peers? send her on errands?, how will she cope" she said, with disgust evident in her voice, like I was a disgusting trash in her path that she had to dispose of."I remember you were in the same position when you came to ask for help, but now you refuse her because she's mute and not up to your standards?" The head Omega spoke with so much venom in her voice that I couldn't help but shiver at her tone."And I always appreciate your assistance, but my situation was different. I was not disabled like her. I mean, look at her state," she scorned me, poin
Mira’s POVThe tension in the room was suffocating, as we all waited for Alpha Navier's response. He didn't respond immediately, as he sat back in his chair, his sharp gaze flicking between me and Carrie. His face showed no expression. I held my breath, waiting for his response. Finally, he shrugged and said, “She’s not worth my time,” before calmly returning to his meal, as if I meant nothing to him.His words struck me like a whip. I had hoped—foolishly, that perhaps he might step in and defend me, even after all he’d done. But his cold dismissal cut deeper than I’d expected, because he was my mate.Across the room, Carrie smirked, her face showing the satisfaction she felt. I could feel tears burning at the edges of my eyes, but I forced them down. I wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of her. Life had never been fair to abominations like me, and today was no different. I felt a hand on my dress, brushing the splattered food on my dress, and I flinched before I realized it was
Alana's POV. For a moment, nothing happened. Alpha Navier didn't speak or move. Then, his growl broke the silence in the room. He slowly looked up to stare at the visibly shaking guard."And you're just telling me this now?" he snarled, his voice gripping with anger and frustration, though I couldn't read his expression. The guard flinched, his head bowing in submission to his Alpha. "We tried mind-linking you, Alpha, but... your mind-link was blocked," he answered, Bowing his head as a sign of respect.I could feel fear roll off him in waves, sharp and acrid to my heightened senses. As a stealer wolf, I've always been able to pick up on people's emotions and voices to judge what they are feeling on the inside."Where's the wolf now? Has he breached our walls?" Alpha Navier asked in a soft yet strong voice. I felt the urge to shout at him to get the fuck up and investigate what's going on, but who am I to order the Alpha around, especially the one who hates my guts? The guard hesita
Alpha Navier's POV.I had intentionally told the guards to bring Mira into my office. She had done exactly what I had feared she would do in just a day since her arrival.I blame myself for that, I shouldn't have given her the freedom to move around the pack when she got here. I should have personally taken her to her room and locked the doors instead of assigning her to the kitchen. But that was about to change. As soon as I confirmed my suspicions.“Alpha, we are here.” The guard announced at the door. “Come in,” I yelled.I watched her with disgust as she was dragged in by the guards. She was shaking in fear, and from the white trail on her face it seemed like she had been crying. As soon as they entered, I dismissed the guards coldly and turned toward Cole, the witness. “Is she the same lady you saw with the wolf yesterday?” I asked him.Cole nodded his head and pointed at Mira. “Yes, I'm very sure. Mira's POV.I forced myself back to my feet, with the help of Beta Ethan who was looking at me with undisguised pity in his eyes. “Are you okay?” His voice was low, concerned. “I don’t know what Navier was thinking, making you run a hundred laps on your first day of training.” His frustration blends into his tone.I offered him a weak smile and nodded, but I didn’t dare sign. If I did, I knew I’d break down completely.I felt the weight of stares from the warriors nearby. Some looked at me with pity, others with barely concealed anger. Their Luna, a weakling. I dropped my gaze to the ground, my stomach twisting. They must resent me and probably sympathize with their Alpha for being saddled with a mate like me. No one wanted a liability. Mira POV.I awoke the next morning feeling exhausted and worn out. Memories of the previous night flooded my mind, filling me with dread at the thought of going to the training ground.I glanced at the wall clock and saw that it was almost eight."Shit," I cursed in my head, jumping off the bed. Despite my fear, I knew I had no choice but to get to the field as early as possible before he arrived. The thought of being punished for lateness spurred me into action.I quickly bathed and changed into clean clothes, making a mental note to wash the dirty laundry piling up from the day before. As I left my room, I noticed maids heading toward Navier's quarters, whispering and laughing as they climbed the stairs. That cruel, pampered bastard was likely waiting for breakfast in bed. With so many maids catering to his every whim, why had he insisted on making me his personal servant? Mira POVThe booming voice of the Alpha, my father, jolted me awake. Startled and frightened, I sat upright on my mattress, shivering in pain from his previous night’s brutal beatings. My heart raced as I forced myself to stand, wincing from the deep ache in my body. Though hiding in the closet seemed tempting, past experiences warned me that it might provoke further ire from him. With trembling legs, I walked across the room to where he sat with my mother, the Luna. But before I could reach them, my father stood up suddenly and landed a hot slap on my left cheek. The searing pain radiated through my face as I instinctively held my hand to soothe the stinging sensation, tears welling up in my eyes.“Where’s our breakfast? Do we have to beg you, the house help, to cook and clean? Is that too much to ask?” He bellowed from his seat, his voice filled with contempt. “Are you deaf, huh? We know you’re mute, but has that also affected your hearing?” His furious words echoed in the room as h
Mira’s POV The commanding voice halted us, and we obediently lowered our heads, overwhelmed by the immense power emanating from him. The omegas whimpered in submission, as if they were in their wolf forms, ready to roll over for a belly rub.“I demand an explanation,” the authoritative voice echoed once more. Startled, we snapped out of our trance. I watched as the men fumbled for words, unsure of how to respond. My gaze met his eyes, and my inner wolf stirred, recognizing him as my mate.I silently thanked the stars for bringing us together, even if it was under less-than-ideal circumstances. At least he would free me from these people. “Alpha, we’re dealing with a pack emergency at the moment. It’s nothing significant, sir,” they replied, their grip on me tightening like a vise. The Alpha growled fiercely, stepping closer to us. Fearing his wrath, they swiftly released me and backed away.No wolf could disobey a direct order from an alpha, especially a true Alpha, unless they were

Mira’s POVI was almost at the pack house when I stood still, reeling in shock from my confrontation with Carrie, who had just left. The reason for her aggression, I would never know. I had only seen her for a day, and she had already made me an enemy. ‘Wow, Mira, you sure do work fast at getting people’s disapproval,’ I chuckled, musing to myself. I guess I have grown a thick skin already. ‘This doesn’t faze me,’ I stated, nonchalantly dusting off my gown as I walked towards the pack house.“Psst, Mira,” I was startled at the mention of my name. No one calls me by my given name. It’s either “the Mute one” or just casual hand signals to beckon me over, but never my given name.“Mira, Mira!” I made to run, but the urgency in the voice stopped me in my tracks. I took a moment to look around the bush and there stood my father in his gracefulness.“Mira, my child,” he yelled, walking closer in haste to me, to stop me from running from him. Instantly, his hand shot out to hold my hands, bu
Mira’s POVHe wants me to be his maid, his plaything for entertainment. Tears streamed down my face as I recalled his last words. Despite enduring a lifetime of slave-like treatment, I never expected my mate to treat me this way. While being a maid is a life I am accustomed to, the idea of sharing my body with a man who belittles me and refuses to accept me as his Luna is something I cannot tolerate. I glared at him, vehemently shaking my head.“You believe it is unfair to you, don’t you?” He laughed mockingly as I stood defensively, clenching my fist and glaring at him.“What’s unfair,” he drawled out each word, “is that I am burdened with a weak, pathetic mate.” Through gritted teeth, he poked my head with his thumb. But I refused to let his words affect me as I stared boldly into his eyes.“Lower your eyes when I speak to you,” he commanded, stepping closer. Before I realized it, he slammed me against the wall and grasped my neck. Gasping for air, I struggled against his hold, tryi
