The next morning, Ember was startled awake by noises in her room. She sat up suddenly and opened her eyes. A woman stood by her vanity table, holding brushes and cleaning supplies.

The woman gasped at Ember’s sudden movement, pressing a hand to her chest as she caught her breath.

“I’m sorry, Luna. It seems we startled each other,” the kindly, middle aged woman said, smiling respectfully. “My name is Dorothea. I’ve been assigned as your personal maid.”

She shuffled over to the bed and bowed low.

“Oh,” Ember said in surprise, momentarily at a loss for words. “Okay.”

“I will clean for you, serve your meals, dress you, and attend to any errands you have. All you need to do is ask,” Dorothea said, wiping her hands on her dress.

“Thank you. I may not need much attending, though, I do almost everything myself,” Ember replied, pulling the bedcover around her.

“That is unacceptable, ma’am. You are our Luna. You must attend to your duties and leave the tending to me,” Dorothea insisted. “

Ember spent the day touring the mansion with Kaya, Raphael, and Dorothea. Kaya expressed an interest in cooking, and Ember asked Dorothea to tutor her as an assistant cook in the mansion. Raphael stuck to gardening, just as he had at the camps. After the eventful day, she lay in bed, reading a book after Dorothea had commandeered her evening bathe and dressing. She felt more relaxed and rested than she had in over four years. She had just propped her book on the nightstand as she prepared to sleep, tired from the day, when the door flew open. Thorne stood in the doorway, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, looking every bit the Alpha that he was. His dark hair was ruffled, though it suited him, and his face was set in his usual scowl. “Can’t you knock?” Ember asked, irritated, blinking against the hallway lights. Thorne clenched his jaw, running a hand through his hair as he took deep breaths to control his anger at her insolent tone. “I don’t have to knock on any doors wit

Thorne took her mouth in his, with a passion that shocked them both, their lips sucking and biting, fighting for dominance in a wet, sultry dance. He slid his hand into her hair, massaging her scalp solfty, I dare say even lovingly. Ember arched her back, pressing her chest into his as she wrapped her arms around his wide, muscular torso, leaning into him, Thorne pulled out of the kiss, staring her deeply in the eyes, he looked like he was about to say something, then he changed his mind. Placing his hand on the small of her back, he gently led her into the bed, following behind her as she lay on her back, flushed and staring at him. He took a moment to admire her again, the slope of her collar bones, her breasts, pale pink areolas, the slim lenght of her stomach. He settled on his knees before her, between her legs, with both arms on her knees. “This is an apology,” he said softly, his expression intense and apologetic. “What?”, Ember asked, confused. *A week later* “Wake up, my lady,” Dorothea said softly, nudging Ember. Ember yawned and turned in her sleep, facing Dorothea, who cooed and said, “Oh my days, you’re so cute. But you need to wake up now.” She insisted, pulling the covers off Ember. Dorothea nudged her hard, which did the trick. Ember woke up, stretching, as her eyes adjusted to the room and Dorothea, who was standing beside a table with a selection of different breakfast options. “Good morning, Luna. You have a busy day ahead of you.” “Busy day?” Ember asked, hugging her knees as she peered at Dorothea in confusion. “Yes, Alpha Thorne has organized a small party in your honor,” Dorothea said, smiling happily. “A party?!” Ember asked, surprised. Why didn’t Thorne tell her? Dorothea, seeing her confusion, said, “It was a bit rushed, my lady. I guess he can’t wait to introduce you formally to the pack. It’s long overdue, I must say. So you must get up, and try out all the dresses I brought.” Ember groaned as she

Serene stumbled as she was dragged out of the carriage. After steadying herself, she glared at the guard and muttered something inaudible but clearly nasty. She steeled herself, holding her head high with pride and confidence, as though she hadn’t just been humiliated. Matteo stomped toward her, grabbed her by the arm, and yanked her forward toward Thorne. He shoved her the last few steps, nearly staggering himself. “You planted your nasty seed in my mate!” Matteo yelled. The crowd gasped. Whispers buzzed as everyone looked at Thorne, then at Matteo, and then, to Ember’s horror, at her. The crowd parted around Ember, drawing all attention to her. Matteo noticed and let out a harsh, mocking laugh. “What a beauty she is. Is that your mate, Thorne?” Matteo slurred, advancing drunkenly. “Shall I fuck your mate as my revenge?!” Thorne and his guards stepped forward, blocking Matteo’s path. “I don’t understand your claims, Matteo. Serene is cunning. You said so yourself,” Thorne said

Ember woke up before sunrise. She got up and dressed herself in a simple day dress, intent on getting into Thorne’s office to find information. A few servants were already awake and nodded in respect as she passed, but she paid them no mind. She had been claimed and publicly introduced to the pack by Thorne, wihich granted her the right to go anywhere she pleased without raising suspicion. She stalked toward his office, keeping an eye out for any guards. She was sure Thorne and Darius had left for the fight with Matteo because she had seen them shift and disappear into the woods from her window. Standing still at the edge of the hallway, she waited until the patrolling guard walked to the other end and vanished around the corner. Then, she slipped inside unnoticed. She went straight for his desk drawer first, but to her dismay, the folder she had previously found, the one containing her father’s picture, was gone. Frantically, she searched, her eyes darting across the office, until

At Muley point, the air hung heavy with fog and dampness seeped into the ground. Thorne and Darius cautiously slowed to a stop in their wolf forms, as they saw the silhouette of two other wolves in the distance, Matteo, and his beta Caden. Thorne, his fur a deep obsidian black with white streaks on his mane, stalked slowly ahead of Darius, and signaled him to hold back. As he did, he saw Matteo’s wolf, a large grey wolf on the heavier side, amble towards him ahead of his own beta, Caden. But what he lacked in fitness he had in weight, which he used greatly to his advantage in Thorne’s previous experience. The two alphas slowly circled each other, snarling as their eyes locked on the other, the world narrowing to the pocket of space between them. Without warning, Matteo lunged forward at Thorne, his jaws snapping at Thorne’s throat. Thorne anticipated the move, sidestepping and dodging with speed and agility, and countered the attack with a swift bite to Matteo’s shoulder. A loud

Kaya entered Ember’s room after knocking several times without receiving an answer. She had just finished her morning duties and was bringing breakfast. Concerned about Ember’s recent emotional withdrawal, Kaya was not sure about how to approach the situation. Gently, she opened the windows, allowing sunlight to brighten the room as Ember stirred but didn’t rise. “Are you awake, Ember?” Kaya asked softly, placing the breakfast on the side table. She sat on the bed and tapped Ember lightly. “Mmm?” Ember responded, the covers pulled over her face. “I brought you breakfast,” Kaya informed her, waiting for Ember to uncover her face. When she didn’t, Kaya slowly tughed on the blanket, revealing Ember’s face, puffy from crying. Kaya frowned. “You can’t show weakness, Ember,” Kaya said, rubbing her leg in consolation. “You can’t let them see you’re hurting.” “I know,” Ember mumbled, sitting up and hugging her knees. “It’s all just so… annoying. Serene and her obsession with him. I’m try

Kaya had been on her way to the kitchens when she froze in front of one of the guest rooms, her attention caught by hushed voices. She paused, stepping closer to investigate the voices coming from inside the room. “How can you be certain it’s mine?” a man’s voice questioned. “I feel it, Darius. The child is yours,” Serene replied smoothly. Kaya’s breath caught in her throat. “Why accuse Thorne? You could have told me, I would have claimed you, consequences be damned,” Darius said passionately. “It’s all part of the plan, my love. With the drama over my pregnancy, Matteo’s revenge, and his mate’s hatred, Thorne will be too distracted. That’s when we’ll seize his empire, you and I.” “How long will you have to live with him? And you have to swear to me that you won’t fuck him, Serene. I love you, and I will claim you,” Darius said. “I know, my love. I swear. Have you found any information on Ember?” Serene asked, lowering her voice. “No,” Darius admitted. “But she’s definitely hi

Ember was taken aback.Did he just say… mate? To who?Her wolf snarled violently at the silver wolf as he took a tentative step toward her. Her sneer meant ‘watch it.’But the silver wolf did not stop, he kept moving forward in slow, deliberate steps, sniffing the air like it intoxicated him. When he came within biting distance, Ember snapped her jaws at him in warning, but with lightning fast speed, he struck her muzzle with his huge paw. Ember recovered immediately and latched onto his leg, biting down with force until she tasted blood.Anger flashed in the silver wolf’s red eyes, and he barked, swiping at her again, this time with more force, sending her rolling away from the carriage. As Ember stood up, she saw him sniffing the back of the carriage where Kaya and her mother lay unconscious. The moment she rushed at him, his voice came into her head again, assertive, with a hint of warning.‘Mate.’Ember approached the carriage cautiously, her wolf still bristling. The silver wol

  • Alpha’s thirst for Ember    Chapter 63

The night wind was cold, biting into Ember’s skin as she rode in the back of the carriage with Kaya, Luna Zyrah, and Raphael, while Caden sat at the front. They had taken blankets along, draping them over the sleeping women to protect them from the harsh cold.Ember was silent, trying her best to ignore the ache of the mate bond. It took every bit of her self-control not to shift into her wolf form and run back into Thorne’s arms. She had thought she was ready to leave him, but her wolf wanted otherwise. She whined and pawed at the edges of Ember’s mind, resurfacing every time Ember pushed her back into her subconscious.Raphael noticed. He contemplated asking her about it but wasn’t sure she would want to talk, especially with her brother at the front, who was obviously annoyed with the arrangement. Then, seeing her discomfort, he asked anyway.“Are you okay?” Raphael peered at her with concern.“Yeah,” Ember responded softly, her eyes never leaving the direction of Thorne’s mansio

Ember stared at Thorne defiantly, her chest rising and falling with pemt up rage. She had already checked out mentally, and being forced to stay in a place she didn’t want to be in was going to be hell.Thorne met her gaze with the same intensity, then he said something that stunned her.“If you leave this territory, make sure you never come back. My guards will tear you apart if you so much as step a foot in.” His voice was icy. He meant it.Ember was at a loss for words. She had been ready to fight for her right to leave, not for him to cut her off completely. Before she could respond, Thorne waved a hand at his guards. They released Caden immediately, the chains clattering to the floor as he stood up, glaring at Thorne.“Let’s go get our mother, Ember,” Caden said, grabbing her arm and leading her out the door. Her gaze locked with Thorne’s until they stepped into the hallway, the mate bond thumping in her chest.Caden walked briskly, like he already knew where their mother was, he

Ember sat on her vanity, running a brush through her hair when she felt it, a sudden feeling of high alert. She peered around the room as though someone was hiding in the shadows, watching her. Before she could react to the sinking feeling in her chest, she heard a loud crash. It sounded like it came from Thorne’s wing. Maybe he was having a tantrum, who knew what had angered him this time. She was about to continue preparing for bed when she heard muffled snarls and more crashing. She stood up immediately, moving to her window. Some guards in the courtyard were racing into the mansion amidst the growling and crashing coming from Thorne’s room. The mate bond tugged at her, and before she knew it, she found herself running out of her room toward Thorne’s wing, her heart pounding, different scenarios playing in her head. What if they were under attack? Before she reached his door, more than five guards rushed ahead of her, storming inside to the sounds of shifting bodies, more growlin

Caden stealthily moved through the darkness, his footsteps light against the damp earth. The towering walls of Thorne’s estate loomed ahead, but he didn’t slow down. He had one goal, to put an end to the monster who had taken his mother captive.Matteo’s words rang in his head, “Thorne has her. If you want to save her, you know what to do.”His fingers curled into fists as he lept, gripping the rough stone of the wall. It wasn’t easy, but years of training made it possible. He scaled it swiftly, dropping onto the other side without a sound. The mansion was ahead, bathed in soft moonlight, and he could see the large balcony that led straight to Thorne’s bedroom.Caden took his time getting there, making sure no guards were in sight. When he reached the balcony, he tested the glass door. It was locked. No problem. He pulled a small blade from his pocket, he wedged it into the gap between the door and the frame, twisting until he heard a soft click. The lock gave wa

  • Alpha’s thirst for Ember    Chapter 59

Ember sat by Kaya’s side in the pack clinic, running her fingers through her short blond hair. Kaya had never spoken about it outright, but Ember knew how attached she had been to her hair. It was the one thing that made Kaya feel unique in a world of fantasy and powerful beings, it had made her feel special and distinguished. Long and thick enough to turn heads, it shone in the sun like it had a life of its own.And Darius had ruthlessly taken it from her. Ember scowled at the thought of him, barely containing her anger. She couldn’t wait to witness his end. He was going to pay for his crimes against her family, people like him always got their karma in the end.Kaya’s fingers twitched slightly, drawing Ember closer to the bed.“I’m here. You’re okay,” Ember whispered, tracing the side of her face. “Wake up soon so you can recover and become a wolf like your parents always wanted.”Ember thought about what the nurse had said and couldn’t understand why Kaya, or anyone, for that matte

Caden walked into Alpha Matteo’s office. The space was grand, filled with sculptures and plaques, reflecting Matteo’s obsession with making an impression. He had been training relentlessly every day, honing his stealth and fighting skills, waiting for the day Matteo would summon him with the news he so desperately wanted to hear, the mission on Thorne. Although he itched to march down to Thorne’s territory and engage him in battle to avenge his father, he respected Matteo’s decision to observe the coast first. Matteo was seated in his black, plush office chair, a thick, lit cigar in hand. As he heard Caden enter, he turned his head to regard him but burst into a coughing fit, the smoke evidently getting into his lungs. “Alpha,” Caden said, bowing in respect. “Caden, boy,” Matteo rasped in the middle of his coughing fit. Caden waited patiently as Matteo grabbed his cup of whiskey, downing it in one loud gulp to soothe his throat. “I’ve seen you training tirelessly, boy,” Matteo sai

He walked into the inn room, brushing past Serene, who was holding the door open. “Well?!” she yelled again, following him with her arms crossed over her chest. “You’re disgusted by me, aren’t you? So I thought to give you some space. And I needed the air,” Darius said flatly. He took off his shirt, the fabric soiled with grime and mud. “You were taking air for three days?!” Darius ignored her. He walked into the bathroom and shut the door. Serene stomped over and tried to open it, but he had bolted it from inside. “Open the damned door, Darius!” she screamed, pounding her fists against the wood. “Ugh!” she yelled in frustration. Inside the bathroom, Darius sighed as he washed himself. W

Thorne drafted out the notice in his office. It was to be delivered to the soldiers quarters concerning his need for a new beta. A date would be set, and all the interested wolves would attend, sparring against each other until the winners from each group competed for a chance to be trained personally by him. Then he would choose a beta from them within a month after judging their skills in combat and delegated leadership. After penning down the last sentence and stamping the document, he sighed, having accomplished that task. “Jameson,” he called, and his office door opened as one of his guards answered. The guard marched toward his outstretched hand and bowed sharply before taking the envelope. “Deliver this to the Captain of the Guard. I expect the preparations to commence as soon as possible.” “Yes, Alpha,” Jameson said, bowing again before leaving the office. Thorne sighed again. There was only one name on his mind. Ember. But he wasn’t ready. Not yet. He wasn’t ready for
