As they left the building after the meeting with Stephanie, Elder Lucian began to speak. His voice, though calm, held an undercurrent of barely concealed contempt. "The time has come for us to face the truth. The throne of leadership cannot be simply handed down based on inheritance or nepotism. Alpha Damien has shown weakness—on more than one occasion."

"And what do you suggest, Lucian?" Elder Mira asked, her voice was measured but intrigued. "That we strip Damien of his title? Is there someone more trustworthy who could challenge him for the throne?"

The other elders exchanged uncertain glances, their discomfort evident. For all their doubts about Damien, the thought of actively questioning the leadership of their Alpha was a step too far for some.

"I don’t know of anyone who could take on such a responsibility," said Elder Simon, his brow furrowed. "Damien, for all his faults, has been leading this pack since his father’s death. Who else has that kind of experience?"
