Chapter 1

Chloe's POV

In the MayHill pack, being a white wolf is a curse, and that fact took a great toll on me. I had my white wolf at the age of six, but I kept her hidden because I would have been referred to as a freak if anyone had found out. I wasn't ready to face such scrutiny and become an outcast among my peers.

“Chloe.” A voice called from downstairs, and I knew from its tone that it was none other than my grandma.

She was the one person who loved me dearly, the only person who knew that I had a white wolf.

“Grandma! I need to sleep more,” I groaned as I rolled from one end of the bed to another, my body still feeling the need for a long sleep.

“Today is your birthday, Chloe, so get up already!” From the high pitch of her voice, I knew she was closer to my room.

“I'm still feeling sleepy, grandma! Just give me ten minutes, and I will be downstairs immediately,” I said, but the door to my room burst open, revealing my grandmother, whose face was glowing red with anger.

“Get up right now before I spank your ass!” She glared, and I stood up grudgingly, sitting upright.

“Come downstairs right now.” She ordered, and I rolled my eyes.

“I need to take a bath.” Putting my two legs on the ground, I rushed to the bathroom first and had a quick bath.

I was dressed in a singlet and denim shorts as I made my way downstairs. On my way, I saw my dad and elder brother sitting in the living room watching a football game. I rolled my eyes at how typical they looked and walked straight to the kitchen.

“You've grown so much that you can't even greet me now, Chloe?” Scott shouted from the sitting room, and I rolled my eyes again as though he could see me.

“Why would I greet you when you are too dumb to remember your little sister's birthday?” I mocked, and his face fell, turning beet red with anger.

Just like I knew, my birthday was forgotten once again, but I didn't feel sad. I was already accustomed to it, so it was not new to me. Only my grandma remembers my birthday ever since the death of my mom, and that is one of the reasons I love her so dearly, and she will forever remain my backbone.

I met my grandma preparing the dishes for my birthday, and I smiled. She never fails to celebrate my birthday every year.

“Grandma, when will you stop celebrating my birthday, for heaven’s sake? I am no longer a kid,” I groaned, and my grandmother broke into a fist of laughter.

“You will forever remain a kid to me, my cute princess,” she smiled, touching my cheeks, and I frowned.

“Grandma, can you stop? You're embarrassing me.” I groaned and moved away from her.

My eyes flickered across the kitchen counter. “Can I help with the chopping of the veggies?” I asked as I took the tray filled with veggies and moved them to the sink to wash them.

She gave a small nod. “Yes, thanks, dear."

Soon, I was done with the veggies, and I helped decorate my birthday cake. The number '18' was written on top of the cake with a few candles beside it, and I smiled after I finished with the decorations.

I still can't believe I turned eighteen years of age today. It's like a dream come true for me—the day when I am finally going to know who my mate is.

I heard that girls of my age get to meet their mates who accept them, and they live happily together. I really believe in fairy tales, and I hope mine also becomes a fairy tale. Furthermore, I have waited so long for this day to come, and finally, it was right in front of me.

*********

“Go get dressed; the guests will be arriving soon." Grandma said to me, but I was so engrossed playing video games with Scott, who was angry because I was taking the lead, that I forgot the time.

“You can never beat me, Scott," I smirked, and he glared at me with anger.

“You were just lucky because today is your birthday,” he muttered, and I laughed.

“What does my birthday have to do with games? Just accept that you're the loser in this game, and I remain the champion.” I said that and dropped the tool that I was using to play games.

"Yes, grandma, I am heading upstairs now,” I said, and I ran to my room to get dressed for the big night, the night when my mate would be revealed to me.

I was thrilled and, at the same time, scared. This was going to be a totally new experience for me, and I couldn't wait to know what I would get in store. Maybe that Prince Charming that I have always dreamt of having

I'm not sure that I'm ready for this new life experience, but then there's a dark doubt sitting at the back of my mind: What if I don't get a mate?

I got dressed in exactly thirty minutes with the help of my best friend Lucy, who applied make-up to my face and made me look like a fairy tale princess.

“Finally, my best friend will get to meet her mate today; I am so happy for you,” Lucy gushed, and I felt crimson wash over my face.

Lucy turned eighteen a few months ago, and she got to meet her mate, who is one of the students at my college. He accepted her, and they are happy together.

“I hope my mate will accept me; I can't bear to be rejected.” I muttered, and Lucy held my shoulders and made me face the dressing mirror. My eyes found hers in the mirror, and I felt better seeing the hope in her eyes. That's why she's my best friend. She's always ready to comfort me and give me hope.

“Don't be afraid, dear; your mate won't reject you. For heaven's sake, you're pretty, intelligent, loving, and have every quality a male wolf wants in a mate, so fear not.” She said, and I nodded slowly and stood up from the dressing chair before heading downstairs, since the party had already begun.

The room was decorated so beautifully that I smiled upon seeing the different decorations. I knew who was responsible for this; it was no one besides my grandma. She's trying to do everything possible to make me so happy.

“Here comes the celebrant, the spotlight of tonight,” Scott announced, and I smiled.

Every so often, he acts like a possessed bastard, but tonight, he is behaving like the big brother that he is.

I got downstairs, and the party commenced. With each passing minute, I could feel my heart begin to race a marathon inside my rib cage.

I was more nervous because I would be meeting my mate soon. There was someone else who was happier than I was: Kiara, my wolf. No one knew I had a wolf because I remained a weak girl to everyone.

Suddenly, my sense organs took in a fresh, woodsy scent, and it brought comfort to my body immediately.

“Mate!” Kiara jumped in excitement, and at that moment, I knew my mate was among the guests who came to my birthday party. I began to look around, searching for any glimpse of him, but I couldn't find him anywhere, and I frowned.

“Our mate is here, Chloe!” Kiara began to leap for joy as she took control of my body and began to lead me to where she perceived the scent of our mate.

I kept following her lead, and she led me upstairs but stopped when we got to Mendy's room. I furrowed my brows, confused.

Why would Kiara lead me to Mendy's room?

Aren't we supposed to be looking for my mate? I cocked my head at the question, the wheels in there turning and turning.

I held my breath and raised my hands to the doorknob. Holding it gently, I twisted the door open.

I didn't know when hot tears trickled down my cheeks.

“Liam?!” I called his name slowly, and they both broke the kiss, shock written on their faces.

Chloe's povI was expecting him to feel remorseful for what he had done, but there was no sign of remorse on his face as he stared at me blankly."Liam," I called again, and Mendy rolled her eyes at me, and my eyes dilated in shock.Mendy knew I was his mate, yet she chose to seduce him.I had never thought of seducing any of Mendy's boyfriends, but here she was kissing my mate in front of me. What a shame!"Liam, do you know that I am your mate?" I asked slowly, and he stared at me with a look I couldn't fathom, but I knew it wasn't a good look or a remorseful one either.“Yes, I know." He dropped the bombshell as if I were being stabbed with an arrow. My heart shattered into thousands of pieces, and I almost lost my balance. My knees wobbled, and when they couldn't support my weight any longer, I fell helplessly on the ground as tears streamed down my eyes, smearing my makeup."I know that you're my mate, but do you expect me to accept a weak she-wolf like you? You don't have a wolf

Chloe's POV “Dad, that's not true. Liam is my mate!” I argued, but my dad turned and glared at me, making me shut my mouth. With one last glance at Liam and Mendy, who were smiling secretly, I ran out of the room in tears, and Lucy and my grandma followed after me. I ran all the way to my room without stopping to catch my breath, and tears slipped my eyes as I reminisced about how Mendy and Liam were kissing, and their kissing scene refused to leave my head as the image kept haunting me every second. Why me?What did I do so wrong to get rejected in such a cruel and painful way?I was just a young girl who was eager to meet her mate and live happily with him, but all my hopes were cut short by the scene I saw between Mendy and Liam a few minutes ago.Lucy ran into my room and pulled me into another comforting hug.“You will be fine, dear friend; Liam doesn't deserve you.” Lucy consoled me as I cried on her shoulder, my tears wetting her dress, but she didn't mind.“Chloe, stop crying

Liam POVAfter leaving Chloe's house yesterday with Mendy, we headed to the pack house and slept there until this morning. The morning sun slipped through the curtains and penetrated straight into my eyes, which made me groan slightly and open my eyes slowly.I turned to my left hand and saw Mendy sleeping peacefully in my arms like a baby, and I smiled. I never really regretted rejecting Chloe for Mendy; she's a weak girl who doesn't have a wolf, and I can't let such a person be the Luna of my pack, and, moreover, I don't love her, so I had to reject her. When I rejected Chloe and she fell to the ground, wailing in pain, I almost regretted my decision, but it was already done; there's no use crying over spilled milk, and she's not meant to be my Luna.I did that for the sake of the MayHill pack; I can't afford to make a weakling my mate and end up getting all the members of my pack killed.I was still dwelling in my thoughts when I heard a light groan, and I snapped out of my thought

Chapter 5
LIAM POVI left Chloe's father’s house with a pang of guilt and desperation on my face. I blamed myself for breaking her heart and stopping so low to have something to do with her sister, Mendy.I know she loves me, but I was such a fool to take her love for granted. Now, see the mess I've caused her family and the hatred they all have for me. If not for anyone else, at least for the sake of her grandmother, whom Chile cherishes so much, I need to find her and bring her back so that her grandma can smile and be happy.I walked away from Chloe's father's house, burdened by guilt and with a deep sense of desperation etched across my face. The weight of my actions bore heavily on me as I replayed the events that led to the fracture of Chloe's heart. Regret looked straight into my eyeballs for stooping so low as to involve himself with her sister, Mendy.I couldn't escape the reality that I had taken Chloe's love for granted, blinded by foolishness. Now, the result of my actions has result

CHLOE'S POVI inhaled some breaths of fresh air as I walked into the dark woods. The crisp autumn air sent chills down my skin. I could feel the sound of the dried leaves as I stepped on them with my feet, a symphony of nature welcoming me home into a new life.Leaving the Mayhill pack was a decision that weighed heavily on my heart. The togetherness I once shared with the only woman who took me as her daughter, my grandma, rang in my mind like a haunting melody. Her wise words, the warmth of her presence, and the shared moments lingered in the air as I went deeper into the woods. My departure wasn't just leaving a pack; it was bidding farewell to a piece of my identity. The Mayhill pack had been my family, my refuge, and my home. But sometimes, the path we must take diverges from the one we've known, and in that divergence, we find ourselves.I couldn't shake the ache in my chest, knowing that I had left behind the safety and camaraderie that had been my sanctuary. My brother Scott,

LIAM POV“I can’t promise you that this is what will happen to you when I go look for Chloe, but I'm assuring you that no one can take the place you hold in my heart. Mendy, you are so good to me, even though the world can see that.” I said to her as I looked straight up into her eyes. She shrugged herself off of my body, for she doubted every single thing I had assured her. “Now, you are making me uncomfortable with the way you are acting towards me. Why did you make me lay with you when you know that you can’t watch Chloe's grandma breakdown or have a heart attack? Why? “ She questioned me with pain in her eyes.I took a deep breath, attempting to act as if I couldn't feel the weight of emotions in her heart. "Mendy, I never intended to hurt you. I want you by my side because you bring me comfort, and I needed that before facing whatever awaits me when I find Chloe. I know it's a lot to ask, and I understand if you're upset."She sighed, her shoulders slumping as if she were carryin

CHLOE’S POVI was so terrified that I had no idea when I pissed on my body. The man's voice sounded like a raging war. My heart kept skipping at the sound of his footsteps. SCOTT POVI slept late last night after having a terrible day at work, only to be woken up by the tears of my grandmother. The sniff of her nose and her uncontrollable tears made me roll on the bed. I stayed on my bed for some minutes before thinking of heading downstairs, thinking that her sound of tears and wails would have stopped. The sun was still lost in its own dreams when I was abruptly ripped from mine. The symphony of my grandmother's tears echoed through the silent house, a heartbreaking melody that pierced through the veil of my dreams. I groaned, my eyes heavy with fatigue, but the sound persisted, refusing to be ignored.“If only Chloe was around and hadn’t taken the foolish step of leaving our pack just because she caught the man she once loved sleeping with her elder sister. I know it hurts, but leaving our pack just because of that minor issue makes no sense, especially when she didn’t inform me or speak to anyone about it before leaving the pack. Now I have to deal wi

CHLOE’S POVI woke up to find out that I didn't wake up in the same woods I slept in, despite spending the night outside in the cold weather. At first, the disorientation was so overwhelming that I questioned if I was still dreaming. The transition from the biting chill of the night to the mysterious warmth enveloping me left me in a state of confusion.I tried to wash away the remnants of sleep. I squinted through the dimly lit room. The air was thick with the fragrance of burning incense, a scent that danced around me and seemed to carry a hint of ancient magic. I noticed I was no longer on the hard ground but on a soft mat laid out in a corner of a dark hut. Wooden walls surrounded me, adorned with intricate carvings that seemed to tell stories of times long past.As I pushed myself up, the mat seemed to protest, whispering tales of dreams woven into its fibers. I looked around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. The hut was small but cozy, and the soft glow of the incense burn
