Chapter 4
ADRIA’S POV
“Definitely, she must have had a thing with the other history professor that made him always extremely commend her.” One said
“Yeah, while we were off in the library, reading hard, she was busy f**king the Professor, in return for an A. That’s disgusting.” Another replied.
There were so many messages, and I couldn’t help but scroll through them, all at once. Tears filled my eyes, and I tried hard to fight them back as I didn’t want to be seen as a weakling.
My friends began attacking them back on the group chat, and even at that, I still didn’t feel better. What had been said had been said, and Professor Lucien didn’t quite see me as the clever girl every Professor saw me as.
It meant it could be difficult for me to get an A if I don’t satisfy him with my answers. I watched as he walked out of the class, after teaching, and I couldn’t bear to stay in school for now, so I ran out of the class, and headed home.
I got home, and cried myself out, feeling bitter, and unable to come to terms with what had just happened. My mother walked into my room, and I wasn’t fast enough to clean my tears, so she saw me.
“Adria dear, what’s wrong?” She asked, with concern.
“I’m fine, mother. Nothing’s wrong.” I replied flatly as I felt a bit embarrassed to tell her the reason I was in tears.
“You know you can always talk to me, Adria.” She insisted, and smoothened my hair with her hand.
I felt a bit comforted, and hugged her, then busted out into tears again.
“For the first time, a Professor didn’t give me a good comment, and it’s not okay.”
My mother disengaged my head from her chest, and stared into my eyes.
“Adria, I understand how saddening it is for you, but I know my girl, she can always bounce back. I know you can convince that Professor that you are better than that.” My mother smiled, and gave me a kiss on my forehead.
Those words motivated me, and I felt better. I wasn’t going to back down, not so soon.
“Thank you, mom.” I appreciated her, and hugged her again, feeling much more energized, and ready to show Professor Lucien what I’m capable of.
The next day, I went to school, waiting for his class to begin, but then the course representative came out to pass an information.
“Professor Lucien will be having online classes with us for a week, so let’s make use of Zoom whenever we have his classes. I’ll be dropping the link on the group chat, so you all, have a nice day.”
I felt a bit disappointed as I wanted to show him how capable I was, physically, and not virtually, but then, it’s all the same.
~
For days, we continued with the virtual classes, and unfortunately, all questions which I answered, always had something which Professor Lucien complained of, or deemed as a weak point.
It felt as if I was an unserious student, and the news about me, having sex with out former Professor got replaced with an assumption if I was losing my touch.
None of that news were happy ones, so I decided to do just one thing. I walked up to his office when he got back from his break or whatever it was, and knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
His voice sent shivers down my spine, and made my tummy spiral. It was probably because I was no longer confident in my words when speaking to him, but today, I was going to get rid of it all.
“Good day, Professor Lucien.”
“Good day.” He replied, and focused all his attention on me.
I cleared my throat, and shook my head to get used to his weird stares so I could pass across the information I wanted to pass across to him.
“I came here to ask that you take me in as a learner in a wider knowledge on history. I want to know more about history, and I really do hope you can be a personal tutor to me.”
Professor Lucien looked surprised, and I could tell he was speechless, but I hoped that he would agree to my request.
LUCIEN’S POV
I got back home after a long day at college, and the only thing that was on my mind was Adria’s request. I never expected her to request for me to be her personal tutor, and that was quite interesting.
I walked up to the dining table, and drank water to my fill, then walked upstairs to my bedroom to have a shower. I pulled off my clothes, and went into the bathroom to relieve myself of any tensed bones.
I turned on the shower, and the water sprouted on my hair, and drizzled down every part of my body. Adria’s thought popped up in my mind again, and I exhaled sharply.
Adria was just an epitome of beauty, and every time I set my eyes on her, I just couldn’t help but give her long stares. Was this how the mate draw felt? I couldn’t tell if she felt the same way about me.
What was even more baffling was why the moon goddess had to give me a human as a mate. She was certainly not going to be easily used to things of the supernatural world.
After taking a shower, I walked out of the bathroom, and put on my robe, then walked down back to the sitting room.
My phone began to ring, and it interrupted my thoughts. I discovered it was my beta who was trying to reach out to me, so I answered it immediately.
“Anything wrong?” I questioned as I got to the fridge, and brought out pineapple juice, and then got myself a glass cup.
“No, Alpha. I just wanted to inform you that it seems the full moon would come earlier than usual.”
“Oh, and how did you get that information?” I asked as I poured in my pineapple juice into the glass, not totally believing his information.
The full moon has never for once come out earlier than usual, because the way he was speaking, it seemed it was going to be much earlier than anyone could think of.
“I got the information from a soothsayer.” He responded calmly.
“Not even the royal soothsayer? Come on, Henry. You should know that any soothsayer apart from the royal one has the tendency to lie to you, and you have the audacity to give me something you haven’t confirmed?”
“Please don’t be annoyed, Alpha. The royal soothsayer is currently on a journey, so I couldn’t ask her, and that’s why I informed you in case of anything.” He apologized, and explained himself.
“Is there any other thing else which you want to inform me on?” I asked, and sipped the glass of juice.
“No, Alpha.”
“Alright, I’ll be at alert, and when I see signs of what you just said, coming true, I’ll know what to do.”
“Noted, Alpha.”
I hung up, and sighed, then stared into blank space. These were the things people like me go through, most of the time. And having a human mate was dangerous in this era.
But then, I had so much desire in me to know more about her, and to be with her, so I’m hoping it’s going to be worth a try.
Chapter 5 ADRIA’S POV It’s been over two weeks now, and it’s so amazing, and surprising how Professor Lucien and I were talking, and learning together. Apart from he being a Professor who knew almost everything, he still learned more and more, and that was one captivating thing about him. I applied a light make up as I was going to his house to have dinner as he had requested for. Studying myself in the mirror, I realized how beautiful I looked, and if I must say, my beauty looked captivating. I smiled, and walked over to the window, and breathed in the fresh air. The night breeze caressed my skin, and my tummy growled in excitement. I didn’t know why I was this excited about having a dinner with Professor Lucien, but I guess I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. I walked out of the room, and got out to the sitting room where my mother was watching her favorite TV show. “Mom, I’m leaving already.” I informed her, with a smile on my face. She looked at me with a teasing expression, and t
Chapter 6 ADRIA'S POV. My eyes fluttered open and all I could see was a blur so I closed them back feeling a bit tired for some reason. I let out a sigh and reached out for my phone which ought to be somewhere on my bed with me. However, I didn't feel it anywhere I touched so I was forced to open my eyes once more, and slowly the blur came to focus and I stared at the white ceiling of my room. I was in my room. Wait, why was my head feeling so foggy? I sat up slowly and I looked around. “I had gone to…” I started to say and suddenly like a bolt, the memories started to hit me hard. How the whole thing had started was revealed in my memories like someone turning the pages of a book but before I recalled the last thing that happened, I had already known what had happened, and a sharp pain rang in my head as I recalled falling down the stairs. Then the fear, and raw panic hit me. Lucien was a wolf. A werewolf! A freaking one like the ones I read in the books. “Oh my god.” I ex
Chapter 7 ADRIA'S POV. My heart started to beat rather dangerously, emitting waves of fear throughout my body instead of blood. I hadn't considered it really serious because I felt I and Lucien were a little too close for him to just eat me up, but staring at him as he began to emerge slowly from the dark, I could tell he was hungry to taste my blood. I was a threat and he wanted to eradicate me. I took a step backwards and stumbled, trying to hold onto something but there was nothing. My legs wobbled and I went weak in the knees. My hands began to sweat and I regretted ever going to the basketball court. The little beating heart that was meant to stay in my chest had moved and it felt like it was beating in my throat, making me unable to form speech. “I…” I tried to form words but nothing came out after my first word. Was I going to die just like that? All because I had hidden a leaf of wolfsbane in my hair? All because I had gone closer to the wrong person? My breathing cam
Chapter 8 LUCIEN'S POV. I drove past the busy streets, making my way steadily, and overtaking the other cars who were too slow for me. Traffic slowed me down a few times, and in those few times, I couldn't help thinking about Adria. Thinking about her made me feel sour, and on the verge of anger. How could she be so unwilling to listen and give me a chance? She had called me a monster and had that moment it had felt like something had clenched its hand around my chest. I hadn't intended for her to find out in such a way, and I understood that as a human, she had every right to be scared and doubtful but I believed I had done my best to convince her that I wasn't going to harm her. In that basketball court, there had definitely been a killer vampire there present, and she had probably thought he was me, and that was probably the reason she had been so scared, but I had searched for the vampire after I had knocked her out, and wasn't able to find him. That had been the first disapp
Chapter 9ADRIA’S POV~flashback~ I was in the classroom, staring into blank space, and lost in thoughts of the weird things I have discovered lately. I exhaled lightly, and placed my head on the table, thinking hard of what to do to ensure I stay alive, and fight for myself. It was best to expect him to strike, especially since he has seen I’m quite obstinate, and can’t seem to give him trust, he would probably want to attack so the burden of me knowing his truth, would be off his shoulder, and he wouldn’t have to over worry anymore.“Adria.” The class governor called my attention, and snapped me out of my thoughts.“Yes?” I responded, and turned to look at him.“Professor Lucien asked to see you. He also said you should gather everyone’s assignment, and submit to him.” He informed me, then left.I got worked up, and my heart felt unstable as it kept beating almost out of pace. Just imagining myself in his office felt like dread had seeped into my skin. His eyes could almost bore hol
Chapter 10 ADRIA’S POV Days passed gradually, and things seemed a bit normal as Lucien didn’t try so hard to reach out to me like he did when I just found out about his werewolf secret. I felt a bit better, though, but still, I felt weird that he didn’t bother talking to me or reaching out to me like he had always tried to. Ladies had been tripping for him, and it seemed like they all knew that we weren’t as close as before, so they were trying to close up the gap and vacant space I left, by filling themselves in. I got to class earlier than usual, and to my surprise, Lucien was in the class, but a female course mate was also there. Lucien was teaching her a few things and I could tell that it wasn’t really what she wanted. She had only planned it that way to get closer to him. She was definitely making a pass at him which was annoying. I had been noticing different girls trying their luck at him, and it was so disgusting to think about. Worse was that I didn’t like the feeling I
Chapter 11 ADRIA’S POV My eyes fluttered open after so many tries, and I was glad that I was finally able to open my eyes, and best of all, I had regained my consciousness. But then, as my eyes opened to behold where I was, I noticed I wasn’t home. In fact, I was in the woods, and lying on brown, dried leaves which made rustling sounds as the wind blew around. It was daylight here, and it seemed peaceful. Am I dead? Is this the abode of people who die? So many questions ran through my mind as I looked around. Then I managed to stand, and thankfully, I was able to. I looked around, and there was nothing like seeing a house from afar. It felt as if this was an endless journey. “Hello? Somebody? Anybody?” I called out to anyone who could possibly be here as well, but the only response I got was an echo. I sighed, and began to hear a whooshing sound. I decided to follow the sound as I felt it could have answers to my questions, or I could meet a human who understood what was going o
Chapter 12 ADRIA’S POV I felt really scared to the bones and could hardly move another step forward. I was unsure of what creatures resided here, and what they could do to me if I wasn’t careful. It was like living my nightmares, and no one could convince me that it wasn’t real. Although, it was as real as anything, which I could obviously feel, see, and hear. “Who…who is there?” I managed to speak up. But no one answered. I licked my lips, then ran my hand through my hair, nervously. I moistened my lips even as I was shaking in fear but I didn’t want to show how much of a coward I was. I felt fresh air caress my head and skin, and I couldn’t deny the fact that I loved it, but I hoped that the voice I had heard was just in my head. I continued on my path, watching everywhere with sharp eyes, and ready to throw my fists in the air and even throw some hard kicks if I find anything weird coming at me. The ghoulish sound of the wind kept me on my toes, each time, because it always fe
127ADRIA’S POV.I took it out, and happiness flooded my heart. The happiness I had felt when I had received it.The fact that those memories could be happy memories that I wanted, brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t remember. Why? Why was I feeling so happy just by seeing a tumbler? Then, as I kept on studying it. The memory had become clear. Lucien had given me the tumbler. I turned to him wondering why he would give me a tumbler, smiling when we were enemies, and then, I recalled his name. With the recollection of his name, everything suddenly hit me like a blast. I recalled lots of faces, and everything about me. I became myself. How had I lost control, and killed those helpless humans? How?And why was I about to kill Lucien?“Lu… Lucien.” I called, but it was so hard to speak. My throat was dry, and unused. He looked at me with relief, and joy flooding his eyes, and I tried hard not to break down.“Lucien.” I called again, and my breath came out in hitches. My hand found his fa
126LUCIEN’S POV.With the speed of lightning, Adria appeared to me, staring at me, with lasers in her eyes. The wolves made to attack, but I held up my hand once more.“No interruption.” I instructed, and Adria struck, trying to slash my neck, but I dodged, and took hold of her hands, turning her the way I always turned her, whenever we fought.“Adria!” I called, but she easily broke out of the lock I had her in, and managed to slash my right arm.It was a deep gash, but that did nothing to me. I was already healing. She thrusted, and I parried. We carried on with that pattern for a long time because I didn’t wish to hurt her, but she became even more violent.“Adria!” I called once more, but she didn’t budge. She raised her claws to slash my neck, but I bent, and wound my leg around hers. She fell backwards, but made it to her feet quickly in a backward roll. “Adria!” I called again, trying to bring her to her senses, but she was too restless, and too fast.It was obvious she was st
125LUCIEN’S POV.I wasn’t the only one, who felt it. Everyone felt it. The wolves, Lycans, and the vampires too.The odd sensation that filled the air. Like something was coming. They all paused one after the other, looking around. So did the wolves, and the Lycans. And it felt like I already knew what was happening, but was too scared to admit it.The vampires on the right began to part, and about half of them bowed, while the other vampires looked irritated.Out of their midst, on the clear path formed, after they all separated, came Adria. The white dress she was wearing was tattered, and covered in blood, but that did nothing to diminish the aura around her, and it didn’t stop her from being beautiful. She walked confidently with her eyes red, and flaming. Her dark claws were out, and longer than I remembered. They looked like they could claw out the human heart in a matter of seconds. It felt like she commanded the air. It hung around everyone, with a feeling of doom. She had fi
124LUCIEN’S POV.“I’m thinking the same thing as you are.” Zayne said, confirming my suspicions.“You think Adria’s the one behind the missing people?” I asked, looking around for the remote controller.“Exactly what I think, and as for the rebel vampires… We’ve finally heard news of them.” He added, and I stopped my search for the remote controller.Watching news I had missed out on, was no longer important at the moment.“Tell me. What are they planning?” I asked.“They are creating an army large enough to defeat all the wolf clans, and humans, together.” He answered, extending the papers embodying his research.“How is that possible? How big would an army have to be to defeat the wolf clans, and humans alike?” I asked, taking out the papers, and skimming through.“A thorough investigation has been done. They’ve sought for vampires all over, and they’ve also turned some humans who have a strong will to kill. As we speak, they’re getting stronger in numbers, and enslaving the vampir
123ADRIA’S POV.I was being sincere. I was tired of fighting, and fighting endlessly. Before it ended in the death of one of us accidentally, I wanted him to close his eyes, and kill me.That was the solution we’d been ignoring. He didn’t want to kill me, with his hands, so he’d been avoiding it.“You’re someone I know as brave. It’ll be over very soon. I’ll rise again, and even if I forget you, my heart won’t forget the face it beats for. When I come to terms with who I am, and accept that I love you, things will be alright again, so please, Lucien. Please…” I begged, still holding his hand to my neck, but he withdrew it, and sighed.“How do you expect me to kill you with my hands…?”“Just do it! Do it! I’m sick of our clashes repeating itself over, and over. Aren’t you sick of it too?” I asked, getting to my feet, and looking at him straight in the eye.“Damn, Adria. We need to think.” He said, placing his hands on the wall next to him, and bowing his head.“We’ve done all the thin
122ADRIA’S POV.I felt sad, and distraught. What thick darkness was threatening to cover our light?Athena went back to tending to Lucien’s arm, and I watched her.“So, what have you come here for?” She asked softly, dabbing ointment on the wound.“Um… we keep on fighting each other. I’m a vampire, and he’s a werewolf.” I replied, watching her intently.“Of course, you keep on fighting each other more than the average wolf, and vampire would fight.” She replied, dropping the wool, and ointment.“Why?” I asked, and she got up from her stool, placing a hand on Lucien’s shoulder, and holding his arm with the other.“Because you both are the strongest of your species.” She replied, setting Lucien’s arm straight, in a single motion.Lucien didn’t make a noise, but the way he squeezed up his face, and looked away, suggested that it had hurt.“What a fine young man.” Athena replied, and moved to me, starting with my head. “You’re the daughter of the vampire Queen. A pure-blooded vampire, an
121ADRIA’S POV.Hope flooded my heart like never before, and we began to make our way, towards the shore. Lucien still couldn’t move his arm, so I had to take him all the way out of the water. Finally, I got out of the water, and pulled him out too.We panted hard, and looked at each other, with sparkling eyes.It had been done. We had survived it. At least that was if there were no more obstacles for us, on the way to Athena’s house.“I think we made it. Athena will grant us a safe path home, after she answers our questions. Lucien! We actually made it!” I squealed, and threw my arms around him.“It’s still too early to celebrate. Let’s get there first.” He replied, stiffly, and I immediately withdrew from him.His shoulder was swollen.“Lucien, did you…?” I was asking, and he began to walk away.“It’s not my first time having a dislocated shoulder. It’s fine. I’ll set it straight.” He replied, dragging himself, tiredly.“Hey. You… you shouldn’t have… you shouldn’t have covered for
120ADRIA’S POV.Fear gripped me hard in my chest, as I watched the large creature. Never, in my life, had I ever seen a creature as large as that. The worst thing about the giant octopus was that it seemed to have eyes everywhere on its body.“Damn.” Lucien muttered, and immediately turned around, pulling me with him. “Swim.”I began to swim, but it was hard. Already, my stomach hurt. The leaves, and cloth Lucien had used to cover my wounds had slipped off, and I wasn’t supposed to be in water, with such a would.Swimming forward was our only option because the water didn’t let us get anywhere near the shore.Just then, a large tentacle landed right between Lucien and me, with a large splash, and we were both driven apart by the force of it.I landed on another tentacle, and my heart threatened to burst out.“Adria! Use your claws!” Lucien said, as I began to rise out of his reach. I got up from the slowly rising tentacle, and tried to jump down, but another tentacle caught me, and w
119LUCIEN’S POV.Things were beginning to get worse. I didn’t know if we could outrun eagles when we were running at human speed, and I feared greatly for Adria who was injured.“Let’s run!” I whispered frantically, even though the eagles didn’t need to hear us to chase us.We began to run, and she winced continuously as she did. Honestly, I was also scared. Not just for myself, but for her. Even though I had promised her mother that I’d bring her back safely, the thing that scared me most was losing her. When she had been dying from my slash the other time, it had felt like the whole journey had ended, and I had lost her, but thankfully, I was able to save her.“Can you run? Will you get on my back?” I asked, holding her hand, tightly.“No, I would rather not slow you down. Besides, if those eagles sweep down low, I’ll be injured first.” She teased, and we continued to run. It was harder because we had to climb, though.Had it been on level ground, we could have been a bit faster. T
