Chapter 6

ADRIA'S POV.

My eyes fluttered open and all I could see was a blur so I closed them back feeling a bit tired for some reason. I let out a sigh and reached out for my phone which ought to be somewhere on my bed with me.

However, I didn't feel it anywhere I touched so I was forced to open my eyes once more, and slowly the blur came to focus and I stared at the white ceiling of my room. I was in my room. Wait, why was my head feeling so foggy?

I sat up slowly and I looked around.

“I had gone to…” I started to say and suddenly like a bolt, the memories started to hit me hard.

How the whole thing had started was revealed in my memories like someone turning the pages of a book but before I recalled the last thing that happened, I had already known what had happened, and a sharp pain rang in my head as I recalled falling down the stairs.

Then the fear, and raw panic hit me. Lucien was a wolf. A werewolf! A freaking one like the ones I read in the books.

“Oh my god.” I exclaimed softly as chills spread through my body. Seeing him looking like that in that monstrous form was unnerving. I had been hanging out with someone like that. Something I had ruled out as a joke was actually real.

“Oh my god.” I exclaimed softly once more as I hugged my knees to my chest. It was so hard to believe I had been with a werewolf all along and I hadn't known a thing about it. I had been reckless with him. I had been so confident in asking him to be my tutor. My hands found my way to my mouth trembling seriously. He was a wolf. But then, how had I gotten home?

I had hit my head.

“Wait! Am I home?” I asked myself, turning around to be sure I was looking at my things and not his. If I was still at his house, I would freak out, and scream until he was forced to push me out or throw me out the window.

Just then, I heard the door open and a short sharp scream tore through my lips.

“It's just me. Chill, Adria.” My mum said coming in with a tray of sandwiches and eggs. It was quite odd to have that for dinner. It was a breakfast thing but then, who was I to question my mum? She ate what she wanted when she wanted to and fixed what she wanted to when she wanted to.

“Mum, mum. How did I get here?” I asked immediately, crawling over to the edge of the bed.

“Professor Lucien brought you home.” She told me as she sat in front of me on my bed, and started arranging my dinner for me, pouring tea from a teapot onto a cup.

“He brought me home? How?” I asked, but realized it was a foolish question as she shot me a questioning look.

“In his car of course. Then he came in with you in his arms. You were all passed out. He said you tripped, and fainted. How could you be so careless?” She asked me with worry in her eyes and I gave a little nervous chuckle.

“ He told me he had tended to you and you had fallen asleep so he had to bring you over by himself so I thanked him for caring to that extent. You really need to be careful Adria, what if you had hit your head in the wrong place, and died?” She asked, and I forced a hug on her.

“Oh, come on. Don't nag at me. I'm here, safe and fine.” I told her, and released her in time to see her roll her beautiful eyes, and smile.

I took the sandwich she had made for me and took a big bite, and something about the way I took my bite reminded me of what wolves ate.

It fell from my hands, and I started roaming out my body, trying to see if there was any pain or any scratch or any bite that he had inflicted on me.

“What?” My mum asked, looking at me strangely.

“Oh… my phone.” I lied after confirming that I was fine, even though my eyes shifted all around uncomfortably.

“It's right there.” My mum replied, pointing to my desk, and my head whipped towards it.

“Oh.” I let out softly.

“Adria.” My mum called, and I knew she was about to start a long speech.

“Yes?” I asked, picking my sandwich up once more, and she gave a sigh.

“Is there anything you're not telling me?” She asked, folding her arms gently.

“Is there something that's impossible to tell you?” I said, giving her a question instead of an answer, and she watched me intensely.

“Is anything wrong?” she finally asked, and I let my gaze slide upwards, trying to give her the impression of a clueless girl who was being asked ridiculous questions by her mother.

“Should something be wrong?” I asked, looking all innocent and she gave a sigh.

“An answer, Adria. That's what I need to hear. What is it that's gotten you so riled up like this?” She asked, and I took hold of her hands, dropping my sandwich back onto the plate.

“I guess it just feels so weird to be brought home by a professor at school. It feels like we're dating, having an affair.” I told her and laughed even though I wasn't laughing at all within me.

She chuckled, and laid a hand on my cheek.

“Just be careful.” She told me and I nodded, wishing she wouldn't have to worry so much about me.

“I'll be downstairs doing the laundry. If you have anything you wish to wash, inform me.” She told me as she got up from my bed, and walked towards the door.

I waited till she had left before falling to the bed, and letting my heart rate fly once more. Professor Lucien was a werewolf. How unbelievable.

I had simply hidden that petal of wolfsbane in my air just for fun. I had not really expected him to react to it. It had been so unexpected. Wolves were weak to wolfsbane and I realized I had almost killed myself just to prove something I had considered a joke.

What was I going to do when I met him at school? What if he wanted to kill me because I knew his secret? Was I to beg him or avoid him all through my school years? Was it to stop taking his classes?

No, that was insane. There was no way I could avoid him or his classes.

I bit my finger hard thinking deeply on what to do.

He knew my house, and could easily get me in the night. With that thought, I bolted out of my bed, and closed my window, bolting them. If he broke the windows with his abnormal strength, I would scream, and tell my mum to call the cops. Maybe he would run.

“No. Let's just beg, Adria!” I told myself, using my hands to cover my face.

It was going to change my college life for sure. The fact that I had a professor as a wolf. What if he wasn't the only one and there were others? What if my classmates were mixed with wolves also?

“Stop!” I shouted at my mind who brought up every single negative suggestion there was in the world and after, I wrenched off my clothes like they were suffocating me and strode briskly into the bathroom. A shower would calm me.

~

It had been so hard for me to find sleep and I had fallen asleep during the early hours of the morning. All my thoughts had been about Lucien, and what he was.

I woke up feeling groggy, and weighed down with fatigue, walking into the bathroom, and plopping down on the toilet seat.

Just then, I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirror and nearly screamed. My hair was so messy and tangled, and it sat like a mane on my head reminding me of Lucien.

“I'm going nuts, I'm going nuts…” I muttered to myself as I flushed the toilet and took off my clothes to get myself ready for my first class of the day.

As I walked to school with my earplugs fixed in my ear, I received a message from Stacy asking to meet up in the basketball court, and gave a sigh.

Stacy didn't know the dilemma I was in. I was torn between begging a wolf for mercy and avoiding him for the rest of my life.

I made my way slowly to the basketball court with my mind on the incident that had happened the previous day. I didn't even acknowledge any lecturers I met on my way there.

And when I got there, it was empty.

“Are you kidding me? She called me to the basketball court only to come in late?” I asked myself as I looked around the empty space. I gave a deep sigh, and began to wait, and as I waited, I suddenly had the odd feeling that someone was watching me. Was Stacy playing jokes on me? Someone was definitely in the basketball court watching me, but then a minute later, I doubted it as I heard her footsteps finally walking in as slowly as a slug would if it had legs.

I turned to her, rolling my eyes. Only for me to lock eyes with a red-eyed Lucien

Chapter 7 ADRIA'S POV. My heart started to beat rather dangerously, emitting waves of fear throughout my body instead of blood. I hadn't considered it really serious because I felt I and Lucien were a little too close for him to just eat me up, but staring at him as he began to emerge slowly from the dark, I could tell he was hungry to taste my blood. I was a threat and he wanted to eradicate me. I took a step backwards and stumbled, trying to hold onto something but there was nothing. My legs wobbled and I went weak in the knees. My hands began to sweat and I regretted ever going to the basketball court. The little beating heart that was meant to stay in my chest had moved and it felt like it was beating in my throat, making me unable to form speech. “I…” I tried to form words but nothing came out after my first word. Was I going to die just like that? All because I had hidden a leaf of wolfsbane in my hair? All because I had gone closer to the wrong person? My breathing cam

Chapter 8 LUCIEN'S POV. I drove past the busy streets, making my way steadily, and overtaking the other cars who were too slow for me. Traffic slowed me down a few times, and in those few times, I couldn't help thinking about Adria. Thinking about her made me feel sour, and on the verge of anger. How could she be so unwilling to listen and give me a chance? She had called me a monster and had that moment it had felt like something had clenched its hand around my chest. I hadn't intended for her to find out in such a way, and I understood that as a human, she had every right to be scared and doubtful but I believed I had done my best to convince her that I wasn't going to harm her. In that basketball court, there had definitely been a killer vampire there present, and she had probably thought he was me, and that was probably the reason she had been so scared, but I had searched for the vampire after I had knocked her out, and wasn't able to find him. That had been the first disapp

Chapter 9ADRIA’S POV~flashback~ I was in the classroom, staring into blank space, and lost in thoughts of the weird things I have discovered lately. I exhaled lightly, and placed my head on the table, thinking hard of what to do to ensure I stay alive, and fight for myself. It was best to expect him to strike, especially since he has seen I’m quite obstinate, and can’t seem to give him trust, he would probably want to attack so the burden of me knowing his truth, would be off his shoulder, and he wouldn’t have to over worry anymore.“Adria.” The class governor called my attention, and snapped me out of my thoughts.“Yes?” I responded, and turned to look at him.“Professor Lucien asked to see you. He also said you should gather everyone’s assignment, and submit to him.” He informed me, then left.I got worked up, and my heart felt unstable as it kept beating almost out of pace. Chapter 10 ADRIA’S POV Days passed gradually, and things seemed a bit normal as Lucien didn’t try so hard to reach out to me like he did when I just found out about his werewolf secret. I felt a bit better, though, but still, I felt weird that he didn’t bother talking to me or reaching out to me like he had always tried to. Ladies had been tripping for him, and it seemed like they all knew that we weren’t as close as before, so they were trying to close up the gap and vacant space I left, by filling themselves in. I got to class earlier than usual, and to my surprise, Lucien was in the class, but a female course mate was also there. Lucien was teaching her a few things and I could tell that it wasn’t really what she wanted. She had only planned it that way to get closer to him. She was definitely making a pass at him which was annoying. I had been noticing different girls trying their luck at him, and it was so disgusting to think about. Worse was that I didn’t like the feeling I

Chapter 11 ADRIA’S POV My eyes fluttered open after so many tries, and I was glad that I was finally able to open my eyes, and best of all, I had regained my consciousness. But then, as my eyes opened to behold where I was, I noticed I wasn’t home. In fact, I was in the woods, and lying on brown, dried leaves which made rustling sounds as the wind blew around. It was daylight here, and it seemed peaceful. Am I dead? Is this the abode of people who die? So many questions ran through my mind as I looked around. Then I managed to stand, and thankfully, I was able to. I looked around, and there was nothing like seeing a house from afar. It felt as if this was an endless journey. “Hello? Somebody? Anybody?” I called out to anyone who could possibly be here as well, but the only response I got was an echo. I sighed, and began to hear a whooshing sound. I decided to follow the sound as I felt it could have answers to my questions, or I could meet a human who understood what was going o

Chapter 12 ADRIA’S POV I felt really scared to the bones and could hardly move another step forward. I was unsure of what creatures resided here, and what they could do to me if I wasn’t careful. It was like living my nightmares, and no one could convince me that it wasn’t real. Although, it was as real as anything, which I could obviously feel, see, and hear. “Who…who is there?” I managed to speak up. But no one answered. I licked my lips, then ran my hand through my hair, nervously. I moistened my lips even as I was shaking in fear but I didn’t want to show how much of a coward I was. I felt fresh air caress my head and skin, and I couldn’t deny the fact that I loved it, but I hoped that the voice I had heard was just in my head. I continued on my path, watching everywhere with sharp eyes, and ready to throw my fists in the air and even throw some hard kicks if I find anything weird coming at me. The ghoulish sound of the wind kept me on my toes, each time, because it always fe

I wasn’t really given any information about them, so I didn’t know what to expect from them, and if there ever was recorded in history that they could get angry to an extent of sucking whoever came here, blood. “I guess I’m just to rely on my instincts.” I thought to myself. “What’s your name?” One of them asked, flatly. “I’m Adria.” “I see. You are here to fulfil a task just so you can wake up.” Another said, looking at me like she was suspecting something. Although, I could sense that these women were looking at me like they could see what I couldn’t. I just wanted to be done here and leave this weird place. “Yes.” I responded calmly. “Alright, I am Veronica.” The first vampire introduced herself with a flat expression. “I am Valerie.” The second introduced herself as well. “And I am Victoria.” The third one said “So, what do I need to do now?” I asked desperately after a brief silence. “You have to complete

Chapter 14 LUCIEN’S POV For days now, classes have been going on, and Adria hadn’t attended class. I didn’t want to go to her house at it could seem somehow and suspicious to her mother. So, I decided to ask her friends who had been coming to class without her, for a while now. “Hello, Stacy.” I greeted her closest female friend who sat alone, doing a few things. When she saw me, her expression changed as her face brightened up. Well, let’s hope this charm, helps. “Good day, Professor.” She responded, with a smile on her face. “I haven’t noticed your friend coming for classes for a while now, is there anything wrong?” I asked, inquisitively. “Oh! Adria. Adria fell sick, and has not woken up for the past few days.” She replied me with a sad expression. “What! Haven’t they taken her to the hospital?” I questioned, out of concern. “No, her mother said she knows what’s going on, and then she’ll wake up as the medicine would work.” Stacy informed me. “And how has the progress been

The happiness I had felt when I had received it.The fact that those memories could be happy memories that I wanted, brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t remember. Why? Why was I feeling so happy just by seeing a tumbler? Then, as I kept on studying it. The memory had become clear. Lucien had given me the tumbler. I turned to him wondering why he would give me a tumbler, smiling when we were enemies, and then, I recalled his name. With the recollection of his name, everything suddenly hit me like a blast. I recalled lots of faces, and everything about me. I became myself. How had I lost control, and killed those helpless humans? How?And why was I about to kill Lucien?“Lu… Lucien.” I called, but it was so hard to speak. My throat was dry, and unused. I was already healing. She thrusted, and I parried. We carried on with that pattern for a long time because I didn’t wish to hurt her, but she became even more violent.“Adria!” I called once more, but she didn’t budge. She raised her claws to slash my neck, but I bent, and wound my leg around hers. She fell backwards, but made it to her feet quickly in a backward roll. “Adria!” I called again, trying to bring her to her senses, but she was too restless, and too fast.It was obvious she was st

So did the wolves, and the Lycans. And it felt like I already knew what was happening, but was too scared to admit it.The vampires on the right began to part, and about half of them bowed, while the other vampires looked irritated.Out of their midst, on the clear path formed, after they all separated, came Adria. The white dress she was wearing was tattered, and covered in blood, but that did nothing to diminish the aura around her, and it didn’t stop her from being beautiful. She walked confidently with her eyes red, and flaming. Her dark claws were out, and longer than I remembered. What are they planning?” I asked.“They are creating an army large enough to defeat all the wolf clans, and humans, together.” He answered, extending the papers embodying his research.“How is that possible? How big would an army have to be to defeat the wolf clans, and humans alike?” I asked, taking out the papers, and skimming through.“A thorough investigation has been done. They’ve sought for vampires all over, and they’ve also turned some humans who have a strong will to kill. As we speak, they’re getting stronger in numbers, and enslaving the vampir

123ADRIA’S POV.I was being sincere. I was tired of fighting, and fighting endlessly. Before it ended in the death of one of us accidentally, I wanted him to close his eyes, and kill me.That was the solution we’d been ignoring. He didn’t want to kill me, with his hands, so he’d been avoiding it.“You’re someone I know as brave. It’ll be over very soon. I’ll rise again, and even if I forget you, my heart won’t forget the face it beats for. When I come to terms with who I am, and accept that I love you, things will be alright again, so please, Lucien. Please…” I begged, still holding his hand to my neck, but he withdrew it, and sighed.“How do you expect me to kill you with my hands…?”“Just do it! Do it! I’m sick of our clashes repeating itself over, and over. Aren’t you sick of it too?” I asked, getting to my feet, and looking at him straight in the eye.“Damn, Adria. What thick darkness was threatening to cover our light?Athena went back to tending to Lucien’s arm, and I watched her.“So, what have you come here for?” She asked softly, dabbing ointment on the wound.“Um… we keep on fighting each other. I’m a vampire, and he’s a werewolf.” I replied, watching her intently.“Of course, you keep on fighting each other more than the average wolf, and vampire would fight.” She replied, dropping the wool, and ointment.“Why?” I asked, and she got up from her stool, placing a hand on Lucien’s shoulder, and holding his arm with the other.“Because you both are the strongest of your species.” She replied, setting Lucien’s arm straight, in a single motion.Lucien didn’t make a noise, but the way he squeezed up his face, and looked away, suggested that it had hurt.“What a fine young man.” Athena replied, and moved to me, starting with my head. “You’re the daughter of the vampire Queen. We had survived it. At least that was if there were no more obstacles for us, on the way to Athena’s house.“I think we made it. Athena will grant us a safe path home, after she answers our questions. Already, my stomach hurt. The leaves, and cloth Lucien had used to cover my wounds had slipped off, and I wasn’t supposed to be in water, with such a would.Swimming forward was our only option because the water didn’t let us get anywhere near the shore.Just then, a large tentacle landed right between Lucien and me, with a large splash, and we were both driven apart by the force of it.I landed on another tentacle, and my heart threatened to burst out.“Adria! I didn’t know if we could outrun eagles when we were running at human speed, and I feared greatly for Adria who was injured.“Let’s run!” I whispered frantically, even though the eagles didn’t need to hear us to chase us.We began to run, and she winced continuously as she did. Honestly, I was also scared. Not just for myself, but for her. Even though I had promised her mother that I’d bring her back safely, the thing that scared me most was losing her. When she had been dying from my slash the other time, it had felt like the whole journey had ended, and I had lost her, but thankfully, I was able to save her.“Can you run? Will you get on my back?” I asked, holding her hand, tightly.“No, I would rather not slow you down.
