Chapter 66

Lilith's POV

I contemplated Sam's purpose for wanting to meet me. What could be on his mind?

"I'll be right there!" I called out in response.

I got up from the bed, hastily putting on my shirt, which I had removed earlier for some fresh air.

There was another, gentler knock on the door. I hurried to answer it, now fully dressed.

Sam's hand was poised to knock again when I opened the door, leaving it suspended in the air. A warm smile spread across his face when he saw me, and I returned the gesture.

"May I come in?" Sam asked, a brief hesitation in his voice before I made way for him to enter. "Of course," I replied, welcoming him inside.

He walked in and settled on the couch. I took a seat on the bed since it was the only other option in the room, which had just one couch and one bed. Leaning forward, he rested his elbows on his knees, chin in his hands.
