The winds rushed in and out of my lungs as I ran like a manic through the forest. There was only one thing that propelled me forward. Mike! He had given me enough courage to run as fast as I could. I couldn’t afford to grow weak now. After what seemed like an eternity, I got to the clearing where we had that party, and my life had changed abruptly. Tears stung my eyes as I shook out my fur. I had no idea how to change back to human, but I mentally told my wolf what I needed, and I turned easily. I sank down on the sandy entails with tears gushing through my eyes. I needed to process all that had happened and I was seriously failing to do so. Mike, was back there. ‘Run, Maya, Run!’ I heard Mike’s voice in my head once more. I looked down at myself, and noticed I was naked. How do I go back to the dorm like this? There was no clothes around. My clothes had been torn to shreds somewhere around. I looked around using my sense. It came easier than ever. I noticed the palm fronds ar
Those words went through every marrow of my body, making me so chill. Mike was struggling to control his emotions from what I could see. I didn’t know what to say. It was as if my tongue got tied. Mike sat back on the bed, and slowly pulled himself up the bed. I rushed towards him, and tried to help him, but he turned away from me, his face stuck in a grimace. “I can take care of myself. Leave me for a moment,” he said sternly, despite the pain he was feeling. The man was something else. Jeez! I took one last look at him, and then slowly left his room. I knew he was slightly upset about his outburst, but it wasn’t my fault if he felt the way he did. There was seriously nothing I could do about it. But, still I felt so guilty for some reason. I turned back to his room, and opened his door slightly. He was about to pretend to be fast asleep, but his reflex was slower than normal, and we ended up looking at each other. “I think I should stay here. You may need something, and I’m
I walked back to the dorm with my heart sinking with each step I took. It was so wrong to agree with Marcus to snoop around Mike’s family. But, what exactly could I do? Nothing. I didn’t know what to do. It was literally like being between the devil and the deep blue sea. I didn’t know which was worse. Without knocking, I opened the door. Chloe was up quickly, her hands pulling something behind her. I wonder what that was. I slowly slid the door close. I was so tired of all these. “Hey, girl,” she greeted. I nodded, as I walked over to my bed. I didn’t want anymore discussions. I wanted peace, and hopefully, I will get what I was looking for because this was actually getting too much now. “Well, you really look uptight. Did you have a good date?” Chloe asked innocently. My jaw dropped in shock. Oh, my God! Ian! I had not called him since last night. What must he think of me! I grabbed my phone, ignoring Chloe’s words, as I ran as fast as I could to the gate. What do I do now?
I watched as Ian left me there, running off like someone was after him, without telling me a goodbye. I had no idea what was going on! I looked back at the man, and he was still looking at where Ian had gone. His expression was hard and borderline scary. I couldn’t stand here. It was risky, even for me. I walked as fast I could, with my head bent low on the ground. I couldn’t let this man have the slightest idea that I was not human. He would be on my tail before I could blink. Halfway through, I felt the brush of his arm on my shoulders, and I almost shivered in repulsion at it. “It will do you well to start away from that boy. Things may not be as they seem,” he said lowly. I gasped. I turned to ask him what he meant by that, but he had vanished like he hadn’t been standing right there minutes ago. What did he mean by that? Apparently, he still felt I was human, so what had he meant when he made such a comment. ‘Things weren’t what they seemed.’ What did that even mean? How is
All the toss and turnings I did last night was starting to get to me. I just felt so down with it all. I hadn’t been able to sleep a wink since that awful dream had come on. It was just so bad, and I didn’t wish to relive it. I was dressed quickly in blue cashmere, and wild ghetto pants. I had no idea why mom named this pants, ‘ghetto’ but it had stuck with me over the years, and I couldn’t think of another name for it. Today, I was going to skip school again. I needed to find a new accommodation. I know that as long as I was in this school, they wouldn’t give me another place to stay other than here. So, I have to find my roots outside. Since, I was avoiding Mike, it won’t be nice to ask for his help. I hated myself for all these. I shouldn’t be betraying him. He has done so much for me, but I couldn’t see another option. Everything was so tight and confusing now. Well there was no need thinking too much about it. The thing to do now is to find an accommodation on my own in town.
Mike? I looked at my phone, wondering if I should pick the call. Well, if I didn’t, he would keep calling. And, the least I wanted was for Ian to find out about Mike. It could get nasty. I slid the answer button, and it connected in one swipe. “I have to go now.” “What the hell is wrong with you?” Our words collided as one, and I had to do a double take. I brought the phone out of my earlobe, and stared at the contact details, it was Mike as I had assumed. I replaced it back, seething with rage “Why are you talking to me this way?” I demanded. “Tell me where are you right now?” He snapped with another question of his own. I took a deep breath, and looked around to be sure Ian hadn’t stepped into the apartment. “I’m out with a friend,” I said simply. “At Radisson Boulevard.” “Are you spying on me?” I queried, stunned. He scoffed. “I have better things to do with my time, than spy on you, Maya. One of the pack members saw you going there. I need you to get out of there right
“Who the hell was that?” I seethed as I looked at him. “You’re not in the right frame of mind to ask me this question. What are you doing here? I hope you didn’t follow me!” I shot out in disbelief. He grabbed my arm and led me to the car. I pulled my hand from his when we got to his bike, and tried to leave. He turned me around me to face him immediately. “What’s your problem?” I snapped. “You’re my problem, Maya. Why would you come to this type of place, and meet that guy. Don’t you have any form of pity for yourself?” He snapped at me. I looked away from him. “I told you that he is just a friend. You’re bringing stout of proportion. You know that,” I accused. He shook his head. “I’m not. You mustn’t come to this type of area again. Now, be a good girl, and let’s go home. I’m taking you to your dorm. Climb the bike right now.” He said fiercely. “I’m not going anywhere with you. You don’t need to follow me. Go home and take some rest. You’re sick and that’s what you need more
Playing with my senses. The ride down the root got more intense, and I found myself looking at his broad back. It was so big, bigger than I thought. I’ve never seen Ian’s broad back, but I had a feeling Mike was bigger than he was. Mike had ignored me as usual, without a single care of the world. I wanted nothing more than for him to talk. I respected his silence on the matter, and somehow, I believed that he wasn’t at fault. Mike was target to the hunters. He must have been known by them. I understood the urge to have a middle ground, and the last say in this situation. What I didn’t understand was Ian. What did he have with that man that made him run the way he had done. I’ve been trying hard to connect the dots, and failing to do so. “We are here,” Mike boomed all of a sudden. I quickly stepped down, and my ankle twisted almost immediately. Mike shot his hand forward and saved me before I made a mess of myself. His hands were completely strong, and I revelled in how manly they
