I wake from the sound of the something breaking and crashing to the ground. I gasp and sit upright, my heart pounding and body shaking. “It’s okay,” Kane says in his calm voice. “It’s just ice break.”

I look around the room, finding him in my usual spot by the window, one leg on the windowsill, the other dangling down to the floor. “Come look,” he said.

On my way to him, I look in on Adare, who is sleeping peacefully. He only wakes once during the night now, which I found concerning until Kane told me that werewolf babies develop faster than human babies.

I get on the sill next to him, but he pulls me into his warm embrace so my back is to his front. It’s been a while since we sat together like this, just enjoying each other’s quiet presence.
