Alpha Narcisse's POV:
It was getting more difficult for me to spend some time with Roberta these days because of work. Yesterday I noticed some bruises on her arms and when I asked her she said it was nothing. Silly girl, when was she going to learn that she was a terrible liar. Manuel told me about the incident at the market. I was mad, not just because it happened but because they didn't defend themselves. What exactly has Natalie been doing with her these days?! Natalie strode into my office at that moment. “Alpha Narcisse, it looks like you need a break." Natalie said to me as she got on my desk and crossed her legs at her knees. The gesture made the coat she wore to open up and reveal the garter she had on. I turned away and picked up the documents I was working on earlier. “Come on, it's been far too long. I know you miss it too." Natalie said to me and went on to unbutton the coat. “Go away, Natalie. I'm working." I said to her with disinterest because she was definitely not the person I wanted to be in that position. The dinner date that was ruined that day still annoyed me. She tasted exquisite. “I knew it! Ever since you brought that reject you have not been yourself! What exactly is she huh?" Natalie said to me in an angry manner and I placed the documents on the table as I got to my feet. I have entertained this madness for too long. “Get out of my office before I forget everything that we ever were and kill you." I said to Natalie before walking away from her to the pool area. A swim to clear my head sounded like a good plan right now. The water was frigid as expected, exactly what I needed. But the peace and quiet was ruined when someone joined me in the pool. It was Natalie and she was naked. I glared at her but she continued her mission and dared to place her hand on my chest. She was that close. “Alpha Narcisse." Natalie called to me in a pleading tone, her eyes were shining with unshed tears. I gripped her hand painfully and twisted it, not enough to break it but enough to administer a measured amount of pain. “If you ever pull a stunt like this again, it'll be the last thing you ever do!" I yelled at Natalie. Movement to my side caught my attention and I turned to see the back of Roberta as she hurried away. Fuck!!!! " Get the fuck away from me!” I yelled at Natalie and pushed her away, not caring if she hit her head or drowned afterwards. I picked up a towel and went after Roberta. This was messed up. I caught up with her just as she was about to shut her room door, wedging it with my foot. “Roberta, I swear to you. It is not what it looks like. Give me a chance to explain. Please!" I begged Roberta who had tears in her eyes. The moment I said those words the tears fell and I wanted to go back there and hurt Natalie a little more. “No, you both already have a relationship. You should not have brought me here." Roberta said to me but I pushed the door and closed the door. The servants here were always out to hear what did not concern them. “I won't lie to you and tell you that it isn't true but there is nothing serious going on between us, rather was. We were f*** buddies but that ended when I brought you here. She was trying to make a move on me but I told her off. I swear it." I said to Roberta but she was crying. When she lifted her hand to wipe her tears I saw a huge bruise on her shoulder where her shirt gave way. I grabbed the hand and yanked off the shirt. “Who did this? Don't bother lying to me." I said to Roberta and she looked me dead in the eyes. “Who do you think? Leave me alone, Alpha Narcisse. I don't want to come between the both of you. You can send me back or send me to join the servants.” Roberta said to me and I pulled her close to look at her. " You are my mate, Roberta. If everything I have done with you has not told you that then I will spell it out for you. You are my mate and I am not going to give you up. I am sorry for what happened with Natalie, there won't be a repeat of it.” I said to Roberta. “I'm hurt, Vincenzo." Roberta said to me with a finality that hit me. I have never felt this way with a woman before and this begging was a foreign concept. But I was not letting her go. “I'm sorry, I promise to fix that." I said to Roberta before pulling her into a hug. She didn't hug me back but finally her hands came to my waist. After I tucked her in for the night, I returned to my room. That was when her words about the bruise sank. “Who do you think?" No, it can't be, Natalie would never stoop so low. I got out of my room and stormed to her quarters where she was receiving some help from her maids. Her face was blank when I came in and the maids left us. “What did you do to Roberta?" I asked Natalie. " I don't understand.” Natalie said to me and I stared her down. She should know better than to lie to me. “Exactly what I asked you, what did you do to my mate?!" I yelled at Natalie who shrunk away from me, fear obvious in her eyes. “I didn't do anything to her, I swear! Aside from training her, I never touched her!” Natalie said to me.CHAPTER 6Vincenzo’s POVI watched Roberta steadily and we both strolled through the primrose garden outside my courtyard. The sun had made most of its way across the sky just to kiss the earth, and the moon had begun to peak.I watched as the moonbeams fought to pass through her luscious, dark hair and scatter around her face. I felt her body tremble when I wrapped my hands around her tender waist and pulled her into myself for a kiss. After I pulled away, the image on her face was priceless. Her deep blue eyes shone in the dark and her lips were parted in confusion. It took everything in me not to smile. As I trail my hands firmly down her hips, I notice her wince as my hand brushes her right side.“What is that?” I asked sternly. She immediately pushed my hands away.“It’s nothing. I fell in the bath”, she said hastily. This little lamb could never fool me.I scanned the garden thoroughly to make sure that all the guards were far behind. After making sure that we were alone, I s
CHAPTER 7MANUEL’S POVI watched as Lucia paced wearily outside Roberta’s room, waiting for her to unlock the door. She had run to her room in tears and locked the door behind her after her walk in the garden with Vincenzo. I wonder what he said. Finally, she opened the door and her red, swollen face popped out.“What happened to you?” Lucia demanded, holding Roberta's face in her small hands. She sniffed and pouted, her eyes a bright pink shade.“Was it Natalie? I don’t understand who you won’t just tell Alpha…”“He doesn’t believe me”, she cut her off.“Oh”, I muttered softly. Lucia pulled her towards herself and hugged her gently.“I just want to rest”, Roberta said.Lucia nodded understandingly and stepped back, allowing Roberta to close the door.As soon as she turned around, I was in front of her.“Hello birdie”, I sang. My chest tingled at the level of proximity. “Hey”, she answered wearily. I knew that she was happy to see me, but she was just concerned about her best friend
CHAPTER 8ROBERTA’S POV“You’re a little late. That’s unlike you” Brandon said. I giggled childishly at him as I hopped towards where he stood. He stood brightly beside a tree with a big woven basket in his hand. His blonde hair shone brightly under the sun.“Well, I had to be extra careful around the stream”, I answered. He laughed and lent me his hand to help me step down from the rock I climbed.“I brought fresh fruits for our picnic”, he said, holding up the basket. I smiled and walked beside him.“I’m happy that I have you in my life”, I beamed.Suddenly, the air around us changed to a thick dark fog. I felt my throat closing each time I breathed it in.“You don’t deserve anything”, he said in a very sinister yet familiar voice. I gasped when he turned to me and peeled off the face I had been used to.After pulling apart every piece of skin, I was stunned to be standing face to face with Alpha Elij
CHAPTER 9Charlotte's POVI sat beside the window of my room staring out at the sky. There was a soft breeze and the sky was a clear blue. A few fluffy white clouds hung about in the air, making the day seem calm.“May I come in?” I heard my maid beckon from the post of my door that was almost completely ajar. I turned my neck to see her and nodded slightly in response.“What is the news from Brandon?”, I demanded impatiently, readjusting my entire body to give her my full attention. She swallowed nervously and looked down. I felt a frown forming on my face. When servants fidget around me, it usually means something went wrong. I couldn't stand for anything to go wrong with my plan to get rid of Roberta.“Some of the spies found his body”, she said shakily. I straightened my back slowly, not taking my eyes off her.“What about Roberta?”, I demanded in a low, deadly tone.“They say she is the one who
CHAPTER 10ELIJAH’S POVI startled awake when I heard the bell toll.It rang once. Then again, and once more.I gasped and sat up rapidly. It could never be.There are three bell toll announcements in this pack. One toll is to signify a duel between two wolves. This is usually between two males who want the same mate. They fight to the death, defying destiny and letting the strongest and bravest have her.Two tolls are for the death of an elite in the palace.Three tolls, however, signifies the death of the Alpha. My father had died.I hurriedly threw on my robe and stormed out of my room to see for myself. When I got to his room, I saw his body sprawled on his relaxing chair on his balcony. As I approached him, his image became more and more sickening to me. His face was very white and pale. The veins around his head and neck were purple and they seemed like they were going to burst open. His lips looked gray and cracked. He looked weak, which was ironic because he used to be the stro
CHAPTER 11 VINCENZO’S POV I yawned and stretched as I sat up on my bed. The sharp invasion of daylight meant I had to blink to get my coordinates right. Once I came to, I looked around my room with a slight frown and a line of sweat on my forehead. My left breast hung heavily outside my nightgown and my hair bonnet was beside my feet. Crazy night. As soon as I stood up from the bed, I came face to face with a bouquet of fresh cut flowers. They looked and smelled so wonderful. I smiled widely, thinking to myself that it was a very beautiful thing for Roberta to wake up to. I could hear her just waking up too. I immediately got up and found the card that came with the flowers. I took my pen from my bedside table “Good morning, Sunshine Vincenzo” That's what I wrote on it. I sighed as my smile dropped slightly.
CHAPTER 12Vincenzo's POV My relationship with Roberta was going very well. She fully trusted my love for her, and it was the most beautiful feeling in the world. We had spent the remainder of the previous night kissing on every pathway, in every corridor, every hall, every room. She had said she wanted to take it slow and I respected her decision, even though her body was telling me entirely different things.Even as we sat at the dining table to eat and her seat was right beside mine, my hand gently gripping her thigh as I watched her eat, I could feel the moist warmth exuding from her centre and it made me want to take her on the table.I was so focused on her that I didn't notice Manuel's absence from the breakfast table. That was until he walked into the dining room and stood at the head of the table.“Oh, Manuel. Where were you?” I asked as soon as I lifted my head
CHAPTER 13Roberta's POV I stirred from my sleep to see that the room around me was dark. I couldn't believe I slept from the morning until late in the evening. I sat up on the bed and immediately noticed that my foot was done healing. I stood up and looked around for Vincenzo, but I couldn't find him in the room.I saw a lamp lit in the garden and I immediately knew that he was out there. The cold in the air caught up to me and I shivered, wanting to be engulfed in his bulky build.I took the blanket off the bed and wrapped it around myself, heading outside to the garden. As soon as he saw me walking towards him, a smile spread across his face.“You're finally awake”, he said.He stood on a little bridge in the garden that stood over a small, magical stream. When I reached him, he grabbed my waist and pulled me towards himself, pressing my body into his and pro
CHAPTER 72Manuel's POV I sighed as I sat up on my bed, staring outside the window as the sun danced in the distance.I could hear a few birds chirping in the distance, almost totally covered by the sound of the city beneath waking up.My spirits could not be lower than the way they were that morning.I was to be wed to Natalie later that same day, yet the only thoughts that occupied my mind were of Lucia.I had seen her in my dream two nights before. She was still as beautiful as ever before, and everything felt so real, it was like she never left me to begin with. She didn't say anything the whole time. She just stood there, watching me with pleading eyes.I tried to ask her what was wrong, but she wouldn't say anything. Her desperate and wanting look worried me a lot and I tried to be persistent with asking her what was wrong, but She still refused to answer.I swiftly got off the bed as soon as I heard a soft knock on my door.“Manuel, are you awake?”, Natalie asked lowly, her v
CHAPTER 71Natalie's POV My eyes flew open as soon as I felt the sun's light attempt to pry through my eyelids.I stared at my ceiling for a while, taking in the whole scenery before me.It was a bright day, and anyone could obviously tell just by looking outside their window.I sat up gently and effortlessly slipped our of my bed, making my way to the balcony.I picked a robe off my nightstand and wrapped it around my sparsely clad body as I walked out to the balcony. The view of the city was visible from where I stood.I could not resist the smile that began to grow on my face as I watched the town move with excitement for my wedding to Manuel the next day.Manuel had wanted for us to spend the night together, but it was a tradition in my family that the bride and the groom must not sleep on the same room for a week before the wedding.I sucked in a deep breath as I felt my body shiver slightly in anticipation. Just the thought that by the next day, I would be married to Manuel, a
CHAPTER 70 Vincenzo’s POV My eyes widened slightly as I watched the gr9an loudly in pain. I could hear the loud snapping of the bones in his arm as it cracked in three different places. “Humphrey “, Darla whispered shakily, getting off her position on the floor and running to his side. “Get away from him!”, I yelled at her, wondering if she was just plain stupid to run back to his side after what he had done to her. Before I could get my words out, he slapped her across the room with his straight hand. My head snapped to him when I heard him growl slowly. I noticed that his eyes had a yellowish looking glow around them, to signify that he was transforming into his wolf, and it seemed like a very painful transformation. There was not a full moon outside, so I could tell that his transformation was not triggered by the lu
CHAPTER 69Vincenzo’s POV I was angry at Tyler. No, anger was an understatement that didn't quite describe how I felt towards him after he declared that he would not help me get my revenge. The way I saw it, I had asked him to join me to be a messenger of justice, and he had turned me down simply because there was nothing in it for him.“Is the food not to your liking?”, Collin asked, looking down at my empty plate as I sat across from him at the dining table with both of my arms crossed.“Why do you ask? Would you even do anything if it isn't?”, I asked sarcastically, looking away from him.I heard him sigh heavily before the sound of his utensils clinking on his ceramic plate resumed. After watching him eat for a few more minutes, I decided to give up the pouty attitude and have some food. I had in fact been starving.Collin and I ate dinner in silence.
CHAPTER 68Declan’s POV My eyes shut open abruptly. It seemed as if I had never slept but instead, I had just blinked. The dim sunlight staggered across my eyelids, touching my eyes but barely leaving a mark.I blinked slowly, looking up at the ceiling as a single ray of sun glazed my vision. I turned my head to the side and saw sweet little Roberta lying down beside me with her mouth slightly agape, and her eyes tightly shut together.Without making a sound or causing any disturbance at all, I snuck my way out of the bed and stood at the other end, looking down at her unconscious figure.I could just kill her in a single move, without even breaking a sweat, and I would get away with it because she was by far the most gullible werewolf I had ever met. Then again, I liked to believe deeply that I was just too crafty with plans and she could never, in her mediocre life, stand a chance against my expertise. I stared down at her as her soft innocent face peered back at me with her tigh
CHAPTER 67Vincenzo’s POV I stared intently at Tyler after his question, studying his countenance with every step he took back towards his seat on the dining table.“That's a bit rude, don't you think?”, I said, still staring closely at him.He sighed and dropped tiredly on his chair, leaning forward and looking right into my eyes.“This is not the time for jokes, Vincenzo. You traveled miles in a desert full of men who would have either told the world you were alive, or killed you themselves, and you ended up here. Obviously, I now owe you something for that”, he said, seeming less than pleased.“I'm just trying to pause and recuperate. I have been dealt the wrong side of life lately. How does everyone forget that so quickly?”, I said, my eyes dropping intentionally. Tyler shifted back a little, a look of guilt flashing in his eyes.“I realise that I haven't told you how sad
CHAPTER 66 Vincenzo’s POV I let out a soft groan as I shifted with uneasiness on my bed. Flashes of the hot, scorching sun I walked through in the wastelands filled my head, alongside images of Roberta's face as her body fell off the cliff a million times over in my head. I gasped and clenched my throat, my body launching upwards as I woke up swiftly. “Dammit”, I cursed, looking around at the vaguely familiar environment. It took me some time to remember that I was at Tyler's pack, and I had traveled quite a distance across an outcast infested desert to get there because I needed his help with something. I got off the bed and walked around the room, taking in the scenery around me. The room was small and cozy, like all the rooms in Tyler's palace. He liked to keep the places he slept in small, easy to scale. Tyle
CHAPTER 65Roberta’s POV “No, Berta. We're not going to infiltrate Manuel's palace”, Declan said, rapidly getting off the bed. He had a very annoyed look on his face.I felt like an awful person for asking him to do something like that for me, especially since it was really for Vincenzo, and we were both just trying to explore a new dynamic to our relationship, seeing as he had died.On the other hand, I kept feeling like there was a gigantic, Vincenzo sized hole in my heart, and to fill it, I had to do something that I knew Vincenzo would have wanted me to do.If all the facts Declan had provided me with were true, then Vincenzo would have wanted nothing more than to rip Manuel's head off his neck for the huge betrayal that he went through.I had no reason to doubt a word that Declan had said to me, because he had no reason to lie to me.I could feel that the feelings he had for me were ge
CHAPTER 64Declan’s POV I kept my eyes tightly shut and stayed still as I felt Roberta’s eyes glide steadily over my face.I could not see her or what she was doing, but from her stillness, the prolonged silence and the occasional sighs that disturbed the peace, I could tell that she believed she was watching me sleep.I needed to get more information and precise directions from her, but I had to remain still for a few more seconds. If she watched me that way for long enough, it would make her feel more comfortable around me, and she would not have cause to retain any information from me.My eye twitched as she reached out and brushed my cheek lightly with the tips of her fingers.Seeing as I had already fluttered my eyelids, my eyes flew open, staring deeply into her face that was positioned directly in front of mine.“Good morning “, I said croakily, smiling at her.
