Gabe’s gaze lowered and a look of uncertainty crossed his features before he looked at me. A mischievous smile pulled at both corners of his lips and he wriggled his eyebrows. Instead of saying something, he turned from me and pointed at the fruits all over the floor. I followed his line of sight before it darted to the counters where the juice and chunks of squished fruits lay scattered.

“Well?” I asked. “Don’t keep me waiting!”

“Where do I even begin?” Gabe sighed dramatically. I opened my mouth, but before I could say anything, he spoke. “I was sitting on the counter, being cute, as I always am when he attacked sweet, innocent old me!”

“How about we not pretend?” I giggled. Gabe had the audacity to look shocked before he flicked his pretend hair over his shoulder.

“Fine,” he sing-songed. “I was watching him make soup when he walked over to me. He practically pinned me where I sat on the counter!” Gabe said in mock shock.

“I bet you just loved that,” I teased.

“You know me so well.
