Stress

When I refused to say anything about Shane, Mavy seemed to get the hint and didn’t bring it up for the remainder of our shift. If she was upset she didn’t show it. She went on about something, but the sound of my blood pumping in my ears made it hard to pay attention to anything she said. I just nodded and answered sweetly as she talked. I hid my face until I cooled down and counted down the minutes until I could finally clock out.

I ran out of there so fast I’m surprised I didn’t run into the sliding door or fall on my face. I don’t even know how I made it home, I was shocked to realize I had no recollection of the drive. My mind was a jumble of thoughts as every scene with Shane flit through my mind, every shared word with Mavy, and images of Max as he stared at me with so much affection it made me met.

Gabe was busy with his shift, so I wouldn’t be seeing him unless he got home before I went in for my shift tonight. I locked the door behind me and was thankful for a clean house. Th
