Lavina's POV
"Archer, can we not talk about this?" I pleaded, but he just sighed, sinking into the couch and staring at me with an unreadable expression.
"To be honest, I came here intending to say the same thing," he confessed. His statement surprised me; Archer was usually the type to try to coax me into dating him, only to break things off when it didn't work out.
"Don't look so surprised," he advised, maintaining his calm demeanor.
"Good. You should know I won't speak about our... encounter," I reassured him. Archer looked at me momentarily, prompting me to ask, "What?"
"Didn't you have a mate? Kevin, wasn't it? So, you cheated on him with me?" he queried. The mention of Kevin's name stirred up a whirlwind of emotions.
"Kevin and I are no longer together, so I didn't cheat on him. Cheating seems to be your style, not mine," I retorted harshly. Archer remained silent, a look of guilt shadowing his face. A realization dawned on me. "Wait, did you cheat on someone?"
"Yeah, it technically seems to be the case. I'm engaged to a she-wolf," Archer admitted.
"Wow, so you cheated on her with me? You seriously are a pathetic jerk," I spat out, feeling the heat of anger wash over me.
"Hey, I haven't even met the woman yet. The engagement is a contractual agreement. I'm set to meet her today before we marry. It's an arranged marriage. I couldn't find a mate, and as an Alpha, I need to have an heir," Archer sighed.
"So, this is why you asked me to keep our little secret," I concluded. Archer simply nodded in response.
"I'll keep it under wraps. I don't want to be dragged into the news by speculation about dating just after my divorce from Kevin. The reporters are hounding me for the reasons behind our separation. To make matters worse, that jerk Kevin has come into the human realm with his new mate, flaunting their romance publicly just to make me look like a fool." I poured out my grievances, and Archer sat beside me, placing his hand on my shoulder. A wave of calm spread through my body. I didn't pull away; the warmth was too comforting. I reveled in the feelings that surfaced last night, realizing how much I had enjoyed his touch. It was a kind of power that even Kevin never possessed, and the strangeness of that fact didn't escape me.
"That jerk will pay for that. If you want, I can make sure of it," Archer proposed with a menacing tone that sent a chill down my spine. I knew how merciless Archer could be. The stories about how he dealt with rogue wolves who harmed his pack were gruesome. I gulped at the thought.
"I don't want to take any drastic steps. After all, I agreed to separate from Kevin, too," I replied calmly. "I must be patient and wait for a second, mate. Just like Alice found her happiness with James." I added with a small smile. Archer stared at me blankly for a second before nodding in understanding.
"Archer, I hope that the woman you marry, the one you take as Luna, receives loyalty from you. From here on out, if you don't, I'll make you pay dearly," I warned. Archer smirked at my threat and nodded his head.
"Well, now that we've had this discussion, we should move on with our lives and pretend like last night never happened," I suggested as I rose from the couch. Archer also stood up, his eyes warming as he took my hand.
"You're forgetting a promise, remember? I told you that if we ever met again and ended up sleeping together, I'd chase after you," Archer declared, causing me to raise an eyebrow at him.
"It was just a drunken declaration, Archer. Please, go marry a she-wolf and settle down," I advised, but Archer didn't respond. He swiftly exited my apartment, leaving an air of hurt and anger in his wake. I sighed deeply and began preparing for work. Glancing at my phone, I saw an article with a picture of Kevin and me, separated by a lightning bolt symbol—a public proclamation of our split. Such is the price of being a famous model and producer.
I climbed into my car and drove to my office, ignoring the barrage of paparazzi. Their insensitive questions, hinting that Kevin left me because I couldn't have a child, were downright rude. But in their eyes, a public figure like me had no right to privacy.
The echo of the paparazzi's invasive questions still rang in my ears as my secretary brought me a cup of coffee. "You should rest, Lavi," she said.
"I can't afford to rest. You know the movie is about to premiere, and I must be there. Plus, I have to review scripts for other projects," I explained while examining some documents.
After spending several hours engrossed in work, I was startled by a knock on the door. It was my secretary, Nancy. "Lavi, someone is here to see you."
"Who?" I asked.
"Your ex-husband Keenan. He says he needs to meet with you." A shiver ran down my spine. After the mate bond broke in the dragon realm, I hadn't seen him or even dared to look at the texts he had sent me.
"Send him in," I instructed. Nancy looked at me questioningly, as if asking one more time with her gaze if I was sure. I nodded in affirmation.
Lavina – POVI took a few deep breaths. The door to my cabin creaked open, revealing Nancy. She ushered in my ex-husband, Keenan, who was beaming. Every fiber of my being wanted to cringe at the sight of him; the pain and bitterness he left me with still felt fresh. As soon as he entered, Nancy quietly exited the room. Keenan took a seat across from me."Why are you here?" I asked, trying to sound indifferent."How have you been?" Keenan responded."Does it matter?" I asked, holding his gaze. His displeasure was evident, but the coldness in his attitude didn't bother me as much anymore. I reminded myself that while I once cared deeply when we were together, those feelings were now in the past."I came to give you this," Keenan said, handing me an envelope. Hesitantly, I opened it and found a wedding invitation. To my shock, it announced Keenan's upcoming marriage to Veronica."Did you come to gauge my reaction?" I asked icily. "Or are you so thoughtless as to invite your ex-wife to yo
Lavina–POV"Archer," I whispered. He turned his gaze to me, his face filled with concern, but his eyes darted around, scanning our surroundings. "What are you doing out here so late?" I inquired."Who was that man who tried to attack you?" Archer's voice was filled with a protective edge."I don't know," I admitted. As Archer reached out to help me up, my legs wavered. The sudden magic attack had taken me by surprise, and it felt like the assailant's magic had drained my power. Sensing my struggle, Archer swiftly lifted me and carried me inside the house. He gently laid me on the couch, then shut the door behind him. Moments later, he returned with a glass of water, placing it gently in my hands."You still haven't answered my question," I said, looking into his eyes.Archer's gaze shifted to my neck, examining it closely. A deep frown marred his features. "I came here late at night because I was worried about you. I got word from Alice," he began, sitting beside me. "She mentioned th
Lavina – POVI stood still, grappling with his question. "Archer, I need to be clear with you. I can't return your feelings," I said, trying to put as much honesty into my voice as possible. His face was a blank canvas of emotions, unreadable. He sighed heavily after holding my gaze for what felt like an eternity."Lavina, you've always rejected me. I thought I'd take one last chance to voice my feelings," Archer replied, the pain evident in his eyes. "Before I leave, do you still see me as that playboy? I've told you countless times I have changed.""Archer, it's not about what you say. It's about the actions you take. And so far, it seems you can't keep your promises," I retorted. He closed the distance between us, his presence almost overwhelming. "What are you trying to say?" he questioned, searching my eyes."Nothing," I murmured, my resolve waning. "You should go. I've sworn off dating. I'm done with men." I tried to walk away, but Archer grabbed my wrist, pulling me back into h
Lavina – POVIt was my best friend Leo, who is not only a wolf shifter but also a business partner. "Hey, how are you?" I was surprised to see him after so long. "You seem to have disappeared for five years, and now you show up out of the blue," I said as I hugged him, and he hugged back, his sturdy frame a testament to his well-built body. As we broke the hug, my eyes met his light green ones, and I noticed his brown hair that matched well with his fair skin."I was busy building empires around the globe," Leo said. I smiled at his response. Alice excused herself as she was called by James. "You look radiant, Lavina," he said."You're always such a flirt," I said, but I couldn't help but blush at his compliment. Leo had a way with words."I always speak the truth, you know that," Leo said."You look sharp in that suit," I said, returning the compliment. Leo's smirk, accentuated by his one-sided dimple, made him look even more handsome. "Well, it's a surprise seeing you at the engagem

Lavina – POVI sat in the waiting room outside the dragon mate rejection cave, with Alice by my side for support. "Hey, it's not your fault," Alice, my cousin, whispered."But it is. I can't provide my mate with a child. Keenan wants to sever the mate bond to find other women who can fulfill that need," I responded, wiping away tears. Alice gave my shoulders a reassuring squeeze, her eyes brimming with tears. "I'm a dragon healer who can't even bear a child. The priest said I was a great dragon healer and suggested I change to gain more power and happiness, as the Goddess of Dragons would wish. But here I am, unable to bear a child and saddened by the impending separation from my mate.""Why did you agree to Keenan's deal? The verdict was supposed to be in your favor, and Keenan wouldn't have been able to sever the mate bond," Alice asked."How can I stay with a man who constantly belittles me, showing how worthless I am as a woman?"
