School was dull as usual. While fiddling with my notebook in AP biology, I was staring at the window a few seats away. I didn't think anyone would mind talking to me or trying to strike up a conversation, but I was wrong. A new guy was looking down at me with a smile when I tuned back in to my surroundings. His presence was glaringly obvious when I felt someone tower over me. He scowled when I raised an eyebrow. I wondered if there was something I was supposed to do.
My book bag was on the seat next to me when he pointed there, so I removed it to make room for him. He sat down and gave his surroundings a thorough sniff. I felt a tiny shudder run down my spine. I realized he was a werewolf but wondered why he was taking such a long whiff of his surroundings. I could only think of one possible explanation, but I knew it couldn't be the case. When he turned to face me and I felt my form stiffen, he had this satisfied smirk on his face. He uttered the one thing I hated, after hearing it from one self-satisfied prince, in a low, husky voice.“Mate.” He leaned on the chair and threw his arm at the back of my chair. I cringed and tried to back away from his arm. As much as I hated the prince, he is my mate, and I know that. Then why is this wolf claiming to be my mate? The bell rang for the next class, and I took my book bag and hightailed it away from the cringy male wolf. I didn't feel any pain like I should have if I ran away from my mate, which made it all the more confusing. I rushed to my next class and sat in the back. I would have pulled a hoody over my head to avoid getting noticed, but I didn't have my hoody. Even so, I doubt it would be much help. Werewolves have a keen sense of smell, and if this wolf is an alpha, I should think of digging my grave.“Alejandra Brown?” the teacher called.“Yes.” I responded. “Someone wants to see you. Step away from the class, please,” she said. I stared at her for a while and thought to myself, "Why would she sound so submissive?" But I went ahead and left the classroom. Today I am disguised as Alee, and Alee is shy and quiet. I should be shy and quiet, I thought to myself, but as I left the classroom, a strong arm grabbed me by my waist and took me into an empty classroom. Before I could breathe, a pair of lips pressed themselves on my lips, kissing me roughly. I couldn't think straight. All I could think of was how I was cheating on my prince. Would he be mad? I thought. I will tell him that it wasn't my fault. I would spit on this wolf when he was done. He wouldn't get angry after he found out what I did. His lips left mine and started trailing down my neck. He reached my ears and whispered huskily,“I've been waiting for you. You can't blow me off like that and think you will get away with it.” I felt him losing his grip on my arm, and I got ready to hit him.“I'm not your mate, you idiot!” I screamed while throwing a punch in his face. He stumbled away from me and whispered,“What the hell?” “Yes,” I said, seething with anger. He made me break my facade. I hate both him and the prince, I thought. I will set things straight and go back to being meek and quiet.“You will make a great Luna,” he whispered, snapping me from my thoughts. I glared at him, but he stared at me with some sort of misplaced adoration. Sorry to burst your bubble, Alpha, I thought.“I already have a mate, and even if the moon goddess was blind, she wouldn't lump me with two guys that I can't tolerate.” I said. “What? Who's he? Whoever he is, he's an imposter, a liar.” For an alpha, he's actually calmer than what is expected of an alpha. I rolled my eyes and said,“Sorry, I found my mate, and I can't tell you who he is.” “You are lying then. You just hate me. There's no mate, and my nose doesn't lie. You are my soulmate.” He said it with conviction. “If that is so, why can't I feel the bond?” He deflated, and a desperate look crept into his eyes.“It can't be. I have waited for you for nine years. I can't lose you now.” Nine years! I thought. That's pretty big for an alpha. He has tons of patience, I thought.“Well, can you wait until you are sure that I am yours?" I asked. He hesitated while staring outside the classroom. He clenched his jaw, and his hands tightened into a fist.“I have conditions if you want me to wait,” he replied.“What are they?” I asked. “First, you will stay with me in class, lunch, and anywhere at school. Second, you will move in with me. Third, don't see that other guy you refer to as your mate. I will kill him if I see him,” he said. I snorted and thought, If you can. “Is that a challenge?” he said with a gruff voice."No, but I have got conditions of my own.” He groaned and muttered,“Name it.” “First, I have a twin, and I can't leave her to live with you. We have this thing going on, and so I will come to school today, and she will come the next day. That's how it's always been, and we can't change it.” I said. “Not even for your mate?” he asked.“Especially not for your mate.” I said. “Is there any other thing?” he grunted.“Secondly, don't hog my sister while I'm not around. She hates being dragged around by someone she doesn't know.”“But I can get to know her as we will be family,” he said.“Fair enough. Thirdly, respect my boundaries until I am sure they are yours.” I said. “Of course, but that imposter male should not come 5 meters close to you, or else I will kill him,” he replied.I shrugged and said,“Fair enough.” It's not as if the prince schools here. He would never know where I am, but a small part of me doubts that. He knew my name, and I hadn't told him or anyone else in the organization. How would he know?“Let's get to class, Alee.” I whirled around and turned towards him.“How did you know my name?” I asked. “Your name is Alejandra, right?" I just thought it would make a great nickname. What? Did I scare you?” he asked, smirking at me.“No. That's what my twin calls me.” I said. “Oh,” he said. With that, I went back to class, with him following closely. He wasn't kidding when he said that I should stick with him. He attended all my classes, and during lunch, I sat around wolves for the first time. They were rowdy, and I suddenly thanked my lucky stars that I never lived in a pack. My day was exhausting. The stupid wolf—that I later got to know as Alpha Mason—tried following me to my house. I had to summon a huge cloud of dust to wash away my scent. Then I teleported myself back to the basement. Alee was frightened when she saw me suddenly appear in front of her, but she didn't say anything. She sat quietly in her corner and watched me. As I prepared supper, I wondered what I would do this evening. I was suspended from work until I finished my mission, and I knew what that meant. Money would be far-fetched for me for a few days, and even if I had enough, I wanted this mission to be done and over with. I decided to kill him tonight. Tonight is the full moon, and werewolves are usually out of control due to the presence of the full moon. His basic instinct would be to kill, but I will use his unthinking ability to my advantage. He wouldn't realize that I was his mate, and it wouldn't matter. Once he is dead, I will never have another mate. I am meant to be happy about this, but why do I feel so sad?I got ready to teleport back to the garden by getting dressed in what I had, which consisted of my black tunic, my hoody, my combat boots, and a black elastic shirt with a turtleneck. I don't have any knowledge regarding the prince's whereabouts, but I could apply what I've learned in the past. He would be in the same spot in the palace gardens by this time, unarmed. As usual, I disguised my scent before teleporting to his garden. I felt anticipation building in my gut, but I resisted it and concentrated on the task at hand.“I knew you would come back.” I heard a voice.I squealed and spun around, only to see the prince standing there in just a pair of shorts. I couldn't take my eyes off of him, even though shifting without being aware of it is crucial for the full moon if it seizes control. He has the six packs, lean physique, and strong legs that I have overheard girls raving about at school. Even after I've been marveling at his body, I keep coming back to his attractive face becau
As I got home, I set my bag down on the bed and sat in the chair next to it, my mind racing. I was so distracted that I didn't hear the growl until it was almost in my ears. I jolted and turned to cast the magic spell I had in mind, but instead I found myself staring at my dejected sister. Her eyes were shining, making them appear more yellow-orange, yet her slouching on the floor did not convey the feelings in her eyes. Her expression was ferocious, as if she wanted to murder me for some reason. No matter how much I stayed away from her, she continued to sniff the air around me. I wondered if she had intended to kill me after noticing that I hadn't slept here the previous night. My back smacked the wall, yet I still felt like backing up some more. For the time being, Alee seemed like a predator, and I felt like prey. She sat there for a long time, her eyes glistening as she gazed at me. Her eyes eventually stopped blazing, and she sagged to the ground. I wanted to assist her, but I wa
Albert's POV Albert paced his room. When he was with Minty, he had tried connecting his brain with hers, exactly what a possessive fae would do, but it hadn't worked. He wanted full control of his mate's mind. It's not that he wanted to control her, but it drove him crazy not knowing where his mate was. He felt like he had thrown his mate to the wild animals to devour. Why was she stubborn? All he saw when he tried to probe her mind a little was that she was still a high school student and that she had a boyfriend. Who is Mason? he thought to himself. He didn't know which high school she attended, and this drove him to pull his hair.He sat on the couch opposite his bedroom window and bit his fingers as he stared at the elaborate curtain his mother had put up only for his window. He remembered what happened. She had shifted in front of him. For her to have shifted, it meant that her wolf accepted him. He had heard about werewolves that don't shift until they find their mate. He had a
Mason's POV Alpha Mason reclined in his office chair. He was met with the gaze of blank paper on an easel. The one next to it is self-drawn and features his likeness. For nine years, he had been looking for his soul partner.Nine fucking years! And she showed up; indeed, she did, but she brought with her another mate and her stubborn nature. He has heard from Randy about how she stared at the new kid.Was he her other mate?He couldn't help but feel like he'd been deceived. What kind of twin would make promises that would take her away from her mate? There's a pattern here, he thought. Alee, his mate, would come on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while her other twin would come on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Why can't they come together? He was aware that they had to have developed and adhered to this pattern for a considerable amount of time. It's incredible that the school's teachers haven't noticed this peculiarity. Were their parents abusing them at home? That didn't make sense giv
Alee was acting unusual as I arranged and cleaned the house. She sat on the floor glaring at me and following me wherever I went with her eyes. She would drag herself on the floor from room to room if I go to a different room and won't move over whenever I want to vacuum an area. She would make a fuss, making grunt-like sounds like a pig and growling whenever I lifted her from her position. What's gotten into her, I thought. After I had cleared out every dust and dirt in the house, I turned towards her and said,“How about a game of chess? I will beat you, Alee.” I said. She growled at me like I had offended her. She rarely says anything and she doesn't contribute to any discussion and sometimes, shows no sign that she's listening. But, she's growling? Is she growing? It has crossed my mind several times that I find myself consideri
Alee was asleep before I got to her. She lay on the floor, her legs were separated from each other and drool fell from her lips. She snores whenever she's asleep and her hands are always folded like a dead person in a coffin. I used a spell and carried her to her bed, pulling her blanket over her to cover her from the cold. With that, I took my black cloak and decided to visit the prince. His room looks the same way I had imagined it before I came. The room has a brownish yellow concept to its wall. His bed was extra large, too much for just him and the colours of the blanket matched the walls as well as two of the couches and four of the wooden chairs kept around a round wooden table that has the same colour. Being in his room reminded me of the last time I was here. It was foggy but my heart fluttered just remembering it and I slapped my cheeks. I shouldn't be thinking about him when I had disappo
Mason's POV Mason watched as the supposed dead prince disappeared from view after kissing his mate. He had watched as she openly grieved for the prince after she heard the news. It surprised him that she actually had emotions running through her veins. She had acted like someone without emotions for the past week since he has known her. She was different from her usual self. The day before that, her sister didn't come to school. He couldn't be bothered if she didn't because she wasn't his mate. Instead, he was excited that he would get to see Alee the next day. But the next day brought with it a moody Minty. Emily and Randy has testified to this. She didn't listen while she was in class. Her eyes were always outside the building like someone who had lost something so precious. Those were signs of m
I sat on the chair opposite the window, reminiscing about the kiss with the prince. No matter how much I tried to forget it, it kept on coming to mind over and over again. My heart would beat widely beneath my chest and I would be hopping every time. A knock sounded on the door and I hopped towards it. I hummed mum's favourite tune that she uses whenever she's cooking in the kitchen. When I opened the door, Mason stood before me in the flesh. He was breathing hard and his eyes were furrowed, glaring at me. “Where's my mate?” he growled. His breath came in small puff and yet he tried to catch my scent. I knew that he was because he kept trying to inhale the air around me. Within myself, I spoke a magic spell and threw him off the porch. The neighborhood was a residential area and I knew that he wouldn't risk the humans knowing by going wolf. I turned to go back into the house but I heard a loud growl. I turned around rea
Later that night, I woke up with a start. I sat up on the futon Jo gave me to sleep for the night. Jo lay sprawled out on her bed and I think Matthew was snoring. It might have been Rabel but for some reason, I couldn't imagine Rabel snoring in her sleep. I got up and went to the bathroom. Splashing water on my face, I raised my mouth. I looked in the mirror above the washbasin and saw something blurry. I wondered what it was. I touched the mirror and suddenly, I was transported to a familiar place, the garden where I met the prince for the first time.He stood there, just staring at me. I didn't know what he expected from me, a hug? I've always felt like if I saw him once more, I would scold him for just appearing randomly but I couldn't do anything now. All I could do was stare at him. He's a handsome man and I was very lucky to score a mate like him but I couldn't do anything. Then, there is the thing with Jay. I didn't indulge him, I never did but when he forced himself on me, I d
Jo's house is located in the richer neighborhood. I've been friends with her for two weeks now and I didn't know she drove a convertible. I told her that I had to go home and get my stuff for the sleepover but she waved her hand and said,“What's the fun in that?”I am officially the poorest person among my friends and I don't even have a car, only a large house my parents left for me and Alee. I never really thought I needed a car until I saw Jo and everyone's. The others were following her and I pretended like I see mansions everyday on my way to school or anywhere in particular. When she stopped at her house to put in her password, I stared at the gate, mentally preparing for something that would blow my mind. It looked more like a palace than an actual house, unlike ours. It stood proudly at six stories and I wondered what the extra rooms were meant for. She parked in an underground garage that held a minimum of fifteen to thirty cars at most. A thought occurred to me, just how b
“What is surface tension?” Rabel asked. “The effect that unbalanced intermolecular forces have on the surface of a liquid that makes it behave as a stretched elastic membrane.” I said while stuffing a sandwich in my mouth. Ever since I got my wolf, I've been hungrier than normal. Nowadays, I eat like Alee and those wolves at her table. At home, we usually order because we don't have time to cook a barrel of food in one night. At this moment, we are studying for a chemistry assessment. Mr. Jenkins had conveniently announced that he wanted to assess our knowledge of chemistry. Everyone is panicking because we had to read everything from scratch to finish if we wanted to stay in his class. He had also announced that whoever fails the assessment would be taken down a notch - that is back to basic chemistry. Everyone complained that we were in senior class but he didn't care. And here we are. I, Rabel, Jo, Matthew and annoying Jay are trying to remember all they taught us in chemistry
Alee's POVI walked down the hall in Mason's private cottage in the woods. He told me that he had built the cottage for he and his mate to stay at after performing the alpha-luna ritual - the ritual that will make me Luna of his pack. It's like a honeymoon after marriage but I hadn't registered what he was talking about because he was dragging Minty by the arm. My anger got the better of me and I yelled at him and told him to carry Minty the proper way. He wanted to apologize and I called him a pervert. How could he be talking about our honeymoon while he shot my sister with eight bullets filled with wolfs bane.He was quiet after that. He had tried to have a small conversation with me but I was too angry to see the reason. I had threatened him then that if Minty dies, I would break the bond. I think that shut him up for good until Minty woke up. I was so relieved that I had forgotten everything I said to him. Now, I feel bad that I did all that to him
“The full moon is upon us. Stripe down to your underwear. It would shred anyway when you transform.” she said, insensitive to what I was going through. “I won't look...” Alee said, “Mason won't either. Just do as she says.” “I'm not worried about either of you...” I said harshly, glaring at the woman. She raised a grey eyebrow at me and I uttered, harshly, “I'm worried about her.” She had an amused expression on her face while I spoke my mind. Then, like a sprinkler, she, suddenly, started laughing. “Darling, I've been alive for a really long time and I have never seen anyone make such a ridiculous suggestion. Besides, you have to get used to it. Would you prefer your enemies turn their backs while you stripe before morphing or would you rather shred your clothing and look for one later.” She had a point, I thought. This made it all the more annoying. I would have to get used to being a werewolf as naturally as I got used to my half dragon form and spells as a witch. But still,
“Mason's not wrong, you know. You smell like a wolf and not just any wolf. You smell like a natural born female alpha wolf. No one can cover that now.” Alee said.“How is that even possible?” I asked her.“It's not. Unless, we are missing something here. Mason says that he thinks you are a wolf under the control of the mating bond.” she said while sucking her lollipop.“What does that mean?” I asked as I flipped the pancakes.Alee was craving pancakes when she got back from school but she didn't know how to make them. It's nice, having breakfast as dinner.“It means that your wolf is dormant and can only come out either whenever your mate triggers it aka usually sexual contact or during the full moon.” she said.“So basically, he thinks that I am a werewolf?”“Pretty much and you, my dear sister would be escorting me to the woods today by 12am. It's the full moon tonight and Mason is going to perform a ritual that would fully expose your wolf.” she was excited.Exposing my wolf seemed
Do I really smell like a wolf? That question has been on my mind since Mason and Alee mentioned it. Ever since then, I have been getting weird looks from the werewolves at the cafeteria. I heard the rumors that they spread about me. I was getting snugly with a dominant alpha werewolf after school thereby, polluting the air with his scent every morning. Either that or I must be trying to cover my scent from a powerful sorceress because I did something fishy like stealing a potion from her stash. The werewolves made up funny rumors about me but those rumors got funnier when the humans got a hold of them. Theirs were really ridiculous.I slept with teachers for my grades or because my twin had a boyfriend, I started sleeping around to make her feel jealous. That one was Avery's cook up. Whenever I came to school, it's either I hear the rumors or feel eyes follow me everywhere. I slumped on my chair in the classroom and stated loudly,“Things haven't been going my way ever since Alee star
My heart launched as I watched Savannah sniff me. I let her but I pretended to be flustered. Sarina let out an exasperated sign and said, “You didn't do that on purpose, did you?” Elias watched from the shadows. He sniffed the air immediately I came in but he didn't comment on it. Dean laughed and said, “There are no virgins left for moon sacrifices.” I didn't laugh. I couldn't, not only because Savannah was too close to me but Elias was very quiet and that's unlike him. He folded his arms and was leaning on the wall opposite Dean's former position. Dean had left his computer, clapping on the way and saying, “Lea! What a surprise!” “You weren't waiting for your mate?” Elly asked. “Do you think she thought about it?” Sarina said. “She probably did. Many people can't wait for their destined like Savannah here.” Jacob said. Savannah stopped her sniffing and turned to glare at Jacob. “Hey...” “You weren't waiting for me.” Elly asked. She turned to Elly and held his face. “You
The air was really suffocating. I could hardly swallow my sandwich and Alee was eating awkwardly. She was gripping her spoon while trying to sip a strawberry. I'm sure she doesn't know that she had a strawberry on her spoon but she smiled at me. I smiled back at her and tried to swallow the hard piece of bread mixed with various salads and orange marmalade. Emily was talking about something I lost interest in and Randy was nodding while backing up her mate. The others were as well and some guy clamped me on my back and said, “Right?” I nodded my head with an uneasy smile and turned back to my food. Mason held Alee's hand under the table while keeping an expressionless face. Overall, our table was noisy but uneasy and awkward at the same time. It started a week ago. Suddenly Randy and Emily sat with us on the same table. They didn't tell us why but neither of them paid any attention to me. They spoke amongst themselves and asked Mason or Alee questions if they wanted. But
