Alee was asleep before I got to her. She lay on the floor, her legs were separated from each other and drool fell from her lips. She snores whenever she's asleep and her hands are always folded like a dead person in a coffin. I used a spell and carried her to her bed, pulling her blanket over her to cover her from the cold. With that, I took my black cloak and decided to visit the prince.
His room looks the same way I had imagined it before I came. The room has a brownish yellow concept to its wall. His bed was extra large, too much for just him and the colours of the blanket matched the walls as well as two of the couches and four of the wooden chairs kept around a round wooden table that has the same colour.
Being in his room reminded me of the last time I was here. It was foggy but my heart fluttered just remembering it and I slapped my cheeks. I shouldn't be thinking about him when I had disappointing news for him. I searched around his room but it seemed deserted of people.
He might have gone somewhere, I thought.
A golden coloured curtain had been attached to the bedpost holding the canopy. The nightstand, with the same colour as the wall, sat a laptop and an alarm clock. I wondered what he would have in his laptop as I sat at the foot of the bed and used the curtains to shield myself. It was a last minute plan and I don't know the prince well enough to speak to him informally.
It killed me that I had rushed into this only thinking of warning him without a solid plan on how to do so. This goes against all my principles. I'm about making money, protecting myself and Alee. This situation gives me goosebumps and I wouldn't have imagined something as strange as this happening to me.
Would I have done the same for Mason, I thought.
Of course, I thought, why wouldn't I?
They are both strangers but they are important people that have to be protected. No one wants their leader or alpha to end up dead, I thought while nodding to myself. The sound of the door banging on the door frame of the room made me jump in fright. I could feel the prince from afar. He hasn't noticed me yet but his breathing has increased signaling that he knows that I am in his room.
Taking a deep breath, I stood up while raising the curtain in the process and coming face to face with the prince. He had a frown on his face and his green eyes with a blend of somewhat yellow and somewhat gold were blazing with one emotion I can easily identify. I have seen that emotion on Alee recently.
Anger!
He had on a black shorts. His abs were in full view and I tried to hold myself from feeling them. He has a well-defined chest and his veins were sticking out from the sides of his neck. His white hair seemed like he had run through them a lot and he's breathing heavily. I stared at him but caught myself before I could go any further. I stared back at his eyes and despite his angry demeanor, his eyes were staring at my lips. I felt self-conscious and licked them which emitted a growl from him. He snapped his eyes back to mine and growled,
“What are you doing here?”
“Good evening, your highness.” I said.
The prince gave a strangled laugh and turned away from me. Walking into his walk-in closet, he came out with a white towel and he had put on joggers. He sat on one of the couch and dried his face with the towel. For a while, I watched him as he dried his face but then, he suddenly threw the towel at me and screamed,
“What do you want?”
I dodged it and it fell on his bed. For a little while, I hesitated. The way he stared at me gave me goosebumps. He was different from last time and it's making it hard to talk to him.
“Your highness, I came to warn you. Some people want you dead. They hired someone to kill you. If you...” I said but he interrupted me.
“You mean, someone like you?”
“Yes...” I said, clearing my throat in the process.
“Can you kill your mate, Minty?” he asked.
“I don't know.” I said.
He stared at me and laughed.
“You do not know. Really?!” he screamed at me.
“You are one crazy bitch ass girl. You know that. Did that alpha boyfriend of yours put you up for this or do you want to whore yourself without me around...”
He gave a strangled laugh and said,
“I should have known. You didn't want a mate. How foolish of me? Why did I believe that you would be willing to come to me? You are nothing but a whore who is in love with some alpha wolf that wouldn't even look at you.”
For some reason, everything that he said made me want to shed tears. A part of me shutdown as if I was drowning in grief which shouldn't have happened. It took away my happy emotions and replaced them with solemn grief. Why would he do such a thing? Why is he willing to insult me?
“I'm sorry!” I shouted, “It's not my fault. Please, listen. You should hide. I was assigned to kill you because I have dragon fire and if I don't, my boss will kill you. Someone wants you dead. I don't know who but you have to leave.”
“Why do I even try?” the prince mumbled.
“Get out.” he said.
At first, I wasn't sure what I heard but then, he screamed,
“Get out and don't bother coming back. I'm getting married anyways. I don't need you. Just leave the way you came. I don't ever want to see you again.”
I gave a strangled sob and whispered the spell that would take me out of his room. It didn't work and I had to say it again before it did. Appearing in my room, I sat on the floor and sobbed. I don't know why I am crying. The prince is a nobody and yet, I am crying for a nobody. I didn't hurt him intentionally and I had warned him. What is wrong with him?
Someone placed a blanket around my shoulder and I looked up at Alee. She had somehow gotten out of bed and is struggling to sit upright while placing a blanket on my shoulder. I held her and cried openly on her shoulder. She didn't say anything but she was patting my back.
When I was able to restrain myself, I gathered Alee and took her to bed before lying on my own. I tried, didn't I, I thought. I will just gather enough strength that would enable me to kill him before the deadline.
I was Minty the next day at school. Mason's bodyguards followed me like usual but they didn't talk to me. I'm guessing that they would rather not be seen around me because of what they assume I'm pulling on Mason. I sat on my seat, with them on either sides of me, doodling on my paper while trying to pay attention to Mrs. Britney, the English teacher.
Normally, I pay attention to her unlike most students that sleep in class because almost everyone believes that she's boring but today is not one of them. My eyes were sunken, I checked the mirror. And I had this dull face on like I didn't care what people thought. My steps were sluggish at most and I didn't care to dress properly to school today. All this sounds ridiculous but I don't understand why I feel this way. It can't be because of the prince. I have to forget about him. I just have one less alpha to worry about and I should be happy but I'm not.
During recess, I took a walk down the school corridor. Mason's bodyguards had long since left me. I walked through every corridor in school while others were in the cafeteria. As I walked up the stairs to the next block, the new kid approached me. He walked like he owned the place. His steps were light and I imagined that he could work as an assassin. It would be easy for him to sneak up on anyone and no one would know that he was there.
I looked up at his face and was taken aback by the expression on his face. His green eyes were blazing with anger and disgust. He looked me up and down before turning away from me. My emotions were all over the place and for some reason the way he looked at me bothered me.
I stopped walking and grabbed his arm before he could walk past me.
“What's your problem?”
“What?” he said in a deep voice.
“What did I ever do to you? Why are you picking on me? Is it Alee?” I asked him.
He didn't say anything. He just stared at me.
“Look, it's obvious that you don't like me. Just tell me what I did to deserve something like that.”
For a while, everything stopped when I looked up into his eyes. I couldn't identify the emotion in his eyes and before I knew it, he pushed me up on the wall behind me and started kissing me. To my surprise, I welcomed the kiss wholeheartedly.
At that moment, I felt so alive. His kiss was very familiar to the prince's. It made me wonder if this guy is a fae. Fae magic is known to replicate the magic of other species but even if I knew this, I couldn't stop it and for the life of me, I don't understand this happy emotion that just cropped up out of nowhere.
He suddenly stopped kissing me and started staring at me. I stared back at him. I think we were lost in each other's eyes before the bell rang and we broke eye contact. He looked around the stairwell before looking back at me. But this time, he couldn't look me in the eyes. I licked my lips and his eyes immediately zoomed-in on them.
For a while, he stared at them before he looked up at me. Then, in a last minute decision, he turned away from me and continued walking like we didn't just kiss on the staircase. I looked up and found Emily and Randy looking at me. I stared at them for a while before I sat on the stairs and sobbed into my jacket. I didn't go for any classes until school dismissal. Before I recited the disappearing spell, I looked around the stairwell. Emily and Randy must have gone to tell Mason whatever they had seen. I don't care about whatever they had to say.
Back home, the house was clean and lunch was waiting on the table. I looked at lame Alee. She stared up at me and gave me a small smile. I nodded back at her and tried to smile. I ate everything because it's Alee. Ever since mum and dad died, she has never done anything. Instead, she mopped or nodded whenever I spoke to her. She took their death hard. Maybe harder than me but it wasn't easy for her.
The next day at school, news of the prince's death spread like wide fire. He was scorched to death by a dragon in his room and it almost burnt the whole room. His body was displayed on TV, scorched beyond recognition. Everyone sympathized with the prince while insulting the person who might have instigated the entire thing. I was shocked when I heard this. The deadline is today and I was to kill him today but Elias wants him dead immediately. I told him that I would do it. Was I alone in my decision, I thought.
My phone rang with his name on it. I cleared my throat before I answered it.
“Lea, you devious cat. You should have given me a warning. I like the way you roll.” he said on the phone.
For a while, I was confused. What is he talking about, I thought, but I decided to act like I knew.
“Of course, boss. I do my things differently.”
“Tell me, how did you know to go to his room without the guards catching you. The missive strictly said garden. What happened?” he asked.
I could hear sounds other than Elias voice. The others were listening in, I thought.
“Boss, the missive referred to the garden but he wasn't there when I got there. What do you have me do?”
“How did you get to the palace on your own?” Dean shouted through the phone.
“I can't talk, guys. I'm at school. See you guys later.” I said.
After I had answered the call, I ran into the girl's bathroom. No one was inside. I stared at my face in the mirror. Tears were building up in my eyes. If Elias didn't kill the prince, then who did. I can't believe I hadn't considered the others. My poor judgement have led to the prince's death. As I cried, I felt someone behind me and looked up at the mirror.
For a while, I was shocked. What was the prince doing in the girl's bathroom mirror? He was smiling at me. This action surprised me. I know the prince. He would never smile at me. Then, he hugged me from behind and kissed my earlobe.
“I knew you would be worried.” he said.
“You are supposed to be dead. Are you his ghost?” I asked, surprised by his solid body behind me.
“I know.” he said, nuzzling my neck.
“But what are you doing here?” I managed to say.
He stopped nuzzling my neck and said,
“I've decided to believe you. There's a reason you are pretending. I shouldn't judge you without understanding what happened. So, I faked my death. I will disappear until you figure out whatever it is that's holding you back from being with me. I'm willing to wait for you.”
For some reason, I got teary and hugged him. He tightened the hug before he kissed me. It was different. It was like a goodbye kiss and I cried the whole time. After a while, he left me. I turned back to the mirror and dried my tears. I felt better than I've felt ever since the prince insulted me but I refuse to believe that a mere human would cause this much chaos within me.
Sorry, this is coming late. I would have posted earlier but things in my personal life are in a state of Chaos. Thank you for reading my work. Oh, to get the feel of this, how about you listen to it's you by Henry.
Mason's POV Mason watched as the supposed dead prince disappeared from view after kissing his mate. He had watched as she openly grieved for the prince after she heard the news. It surprised him that she actually had emotions running through her veins. She had acted like someone without emotions for the past week since he has known her. She was different from her usual self. The day before that, her sister didn't come to school. He couldn't be bothered if she didn't because she wasn't his mate. Instead, he was excited that he would get to see Alee the next day. But the next day brought with it a moody Minty. Emily and Randy has testified to this. She didn't listen while she was in class. Her eyes were always outside the building like someone who had lost something so precious. Those were signs of m
I sat on the chair opposite the window, reminiscing about the kiss with the prince. No matter how much I tried to forget it, it kept on coming to mind over and over again. My heart would beat widely beneath my chest and I would be hopping every time. A knock sounded on the door and I hopped towards it. I hummed mum's favourite tune that she uses whenever she's cooking in the kitchen. When I opened the door, Mason stood before me in the flesh. He was breathing hard and his eyes were furrowed, glaring at me. “Where's my mate?” he growled. His breath came in small puff and yet he tried to catch my scent. I knew that he was because he kept trying to inhale the air around me. Within myself, I spoke a magic spell and threw him off the porch. The neighborhood was a residential area and I knew that he wouldn't risk the humans knowing by going wolf. I turned to go back into the house but I heard a loud growl. I turned around rea
ES were kissing behind the door when I opened it. They were too engrossed with each other that I am sure they didn't see me. Even so, I shouted,“Ewww, take it outside, guys.” I wasn't in the mood. Between finding out that Alee would be going to school instead of me and Mason being her mate, I felt like I needed a break in my room/basement. Alee moved upstairs to a different room from me. Everything is changing so fast and I don't think I can keep up. Even so, I got ready for work. I decided that I would rather joke around with people that are not connected to me personally. They wouldn't know if I was sad or needed a break. Besides, Elias would never give me one after I used all of them staying away from the prince and daydreaming about him at the same time.“Whatsup?” Dean said from his chair opposite the computer screen.“Life's good.” I said.“It's
During lunch, Avery approached me and sat opposite the bench I was sitting on. I ignored her and focused on my novel while taking a bite out of the sandwich I found in my bag. As much as we hate each other, Alee placed the sandwich wrapped in an aluminum foil in my bag with fried plantain chips and a strawberry canned drink. She's eating the same thing as me but I guess her boyfriend bought her food from the cafeteria because she had a tray of food in front of her as well.“So, missing your twin?” Avery said. She has pink highlights instead of purple and she dressed like an overgrown toddler. She had her hair in pigtails and she wore a pink miniskirt paired with knee-length pink boots and a handless pink and white vest under a pink leather jacket. She has on bright pink lipstick but her overall makeup was simple. She wore bangles on her left arm and a pink watch on her right. If I want to describe her, I would call her a pink barbie doll but of course, barbie dolls are usua
“And here comes her highness.” I heard Elias say immediately I walked into the hideout.I chuckled, nervously and said,“I was packed up on homework and I forgot about the time. I'm sorry.”“Really? Homework took your time?” Dean asked.“Yes. There's this school project that I am working on. It needs an extra per of eyes and so, I have to be extra careful with it.” I said.“If that extra per of eyes is still needed, don't forget to call me. I'll be available anytime.” he said. I rolled my eyes at him and said,“Yeah, yeah. I'll let you know.”“Lea...” Elias called me. I turned towards him and said,“Yes, boss.”“You talk a lot.” he said suddenly. Everyone, including me, stared at him. It was an out of topic thing to say and I didn't know how to reply to him.“Eh, thank you.” I said.“Are you working with your twin?” he asked. My breath caught in my throat and I struggled to swallow the saliva filling up in my mouth. “You have a twin?” Jacob asked.“And you ne
The air was really suffocating. I could hardly swallow my sandwich and Alee was eating awkwardly. She was gripping her spoon while trying to sip a strawberry. I'm sure she doesn't know that she had a strawberry on her spoon but she smiled at me. I smiled back at her and tried to swallow the hard piece of bread mixed with various salads and orange marmalade. Emily was talking about something I lost interest in and Randy was nodding while backing up her mate. The others were as well and some guy clamped me on my back and said, “Right?” I nodded my head with an uneasy smile and turned back to my food. Mason held Alee's hand under the table while keeping an expressionless face. Overall, our table was noisy but uneasy and awkward at the same time. It started a week ago. Suddenly Randy and Emily sat with us on the same table. They didn't tell us why but neither of them paid any attention to me. They spoke amongst themselves and asked Mason or Alee questions if they wanted. But
My heart launched as I watched Savannah sniff me. I let her but I pretended to be flustered. Sarina let out an exasperated sign and said, “You didn't do that on purpose, did you?” Elias watched from the shadows. He sniffed the air immediately I came in but he didn't comment on it. Dean laughed and said, “There are no virgins left for moon sacrifices.” I didn't laugh. I couldn't, not only because Savannah was too close to me but Elias was very quiet and that's unlike him. He folded his arms and was leaning on the wall opposite Dean's former position. Dean had left his computer, clapping on the way and saying, “Lea! What a surprise!” “You weren't waiting for your mate?” Elly asked. “Do you think she thought about it?” Sarina said. “She probably did. Many people can't wait for their destined like Savannah here.” Jacob said. Savannah stopped her sniffing and turned to glare at Jacob. “Hey...” “You weren't waiting for me.” Elly asked. She turned to Elly and held his face. “You
Do I really smell like a wolf? That question has been on my mind since Mason and Alee mentioned it. Ever since then, I have been getting weird looks from the werewolves at the cafeteria. I heard the rumors that they spread about me. I was getting snugly with a dominant alpha werewolf after school thereby, polluting the air with his scent every morning. Either that or I must be trying to cover my scent from a powerful sorceress because I did something fishy like stealing a potion from her stash. The werewolves made up funny rumors about me but those rumors got funnier when the humans got a hold of them. Theirs were really ridiculous.I slept with teachers for my grades or because my twin had a boyfriend, I started sleeping around to make her feel jealous. That one was Avery's cook up. Whenever I came to school, it's either I hear the rumors or feel eyes follow me everywhere. I slumped on my chair in the classroom and stated loudly,“Things haven't been going my way ever since Alee star
Later that night, I woke up with a start. I sat up on the futon Jo gave me to sleep for the night. Jo lay sprawled out on her bed and I think Matthew was snoring. It might have been Rabel but for some reason, I couldn't imagine Rabel snoring in her sleep. I got up and went to the bathroom. Splashing water on my face, I raised my mouth. I looked in the mirror above the washbasin and saw something blurry. I wondered what it was. I touched the mirror and suddenly, I was transported to a familiar place, the garden where I met the prince for the first time.He stood there, just staring at me. I didn't know what he expected from me, a hug? I've always felt like if I saw him once more, I would scold him for just appearing randomly but I couldn't do anything now. All I could do was stare at him. He's a handsome man and I was very lucky to score a mate like him but I couldn't do anything. Then, there is the thing with Jay. I didn't indulge him, I never did but when he forced himself on me, I d
Jo's house is located in the richer neighborhood. I've been friends with her for two weeks now and I didn't know she drove a convertible. I told her that I had to go home and get my stuff for the sleepover but she waved her hand and said,“What's the fun in that?”I am officially the poorest person among my friends and I don't even have a car, only a large house my parents left for me and Alee. I never really thought I needed a car until I saw Jo and everyone's. The others were following her and I pretended like I see mansions everyday on my way to school or anywhere in particular. When she stopped at her house to put in her password, I stared at the gate, mentally preparing for something that would blow my mind. It looked more like a palace than an actual house, unlike ours. It stood proudly at six stories and I wondered what the extra rooms were meant for. She parked in an underground garage that held a minimum of fifteen to thirty cars at most. A thought occurred to me, just how b
“What is surface tension?” Rabel asked. “The effect that unbalanced intermolecular forces have on the surface of a liquid that makes it behave as a stretched elastic membrane.” I said while stuffing a sandwich in my mouth. Ever since I got my wolf, I've been hungrier than normal. Nowadays, I eat like Alee and those wolves at her table. At home, we usually order because we don't have time to cook a barrel of food in one night. At this moment, we are studying for a chemistry assessment. Mr. Jenkins had conveniently announced that he wanted to assess our knowledge of chemistry. Everyone is panicking because we had to read everything from scratch to finish if we wanted to stay in his class. He had also announced that whoever fails the assessment would be taken down a notch - that is back to basic chemistry. Everyone complained that we were in senior class but he didn't care. And here we are. I, Rabel, Jo, Matthew and annoying Jay are trying to remember all they taught us in chemistry
Alee's POVI walked down the hall in Mason's private cottage in the woods. He told me that he had built the cottage for he and his mate to stay at after performing the alpha-luna ritual - the ritual that will make me Luna of his pack. It's like a honeymoon after marriage but I hadn't registered what he was talking about because he was dragging Minty by the arm. My anger got the better of me and I yelled at him and told him to carry Minty the proper way. He wanted to apologize and I called him a pervert. How could he be talking about our honeymoon while he shot my sister with eight bullets filled with wolfs bane.He was quiet after that. He had tried to have a small conversation with me but I was too angry to see the reason. I had threatened him then that if Minty dies, I would break the bond. I think that shut him up for good until Minty woke up. I was so relieved that I had forgotten everything I said to him. Now, I feel bad that I did all that to him
“The full moon is upon us. Stripe down to your underwear. It would shred anyway when you transform.” she said, insensitive to what I was going through. “I won't look...” Alee said, “Mason won't either. Just do as she says.” “I'm not worried about either of you...” I said harshly, glaring at the woman. She raised a grey eyebrow at me and I uttered, harshly, “I'm worried about her.” She had an amused expression on her face while I spoke my mind. Then, like a sprinkler, she, suddenly, started laughing. “Darling, I've been alive for a really long time and I have never seen anyone make such a ridiculous suggestion. Besides, you have to get used to it. Would you prefer your enemies turn their backs while you stripe before morphing or would you rather shred your clothing and look for one later.” She had a point, I thought. This made it all the more annoying. I would have to get used to being a werewolf as naturally as I got used to my half dragon form and spells as a witch. But still,
“Mason's not wrong, you know. You smell like a wolf and not just any wolf. You smell like a natural born female alpha wolf. No one can cover that now.” Alee said.“How is that even possible?” I asked her.“It's not. Unless, we are missing something here. Mason says that he thinks you are a wolf under the control of the mating bond.” she said while sucking her lollipop.“What does that mean?” I asked as I flipped the pancakes.Alee was craving pancakes when she got back from school but she didn't know how to make them. It's nice, having breakfast as dinner.“It means that your wolf is dormant and can only come out either whenever your mate triggers it aka usually sexual contact or during the full moon.” she said.“So basically, he thinks that I am a werewolf?”“Pretty much and you, my dear sister would be escorting me to the woods today by 12am. It's the full moon tonight and Mason is going to perform a ritual that would fully expose your wolf.” she was excited.Exposing my wolf seemed
