CHAPTER 5

Jessica's POV

I couldn't sleep throughout the night because I was afraid that I was going to oversleep and that someone else was going to prepare the meal.

 Then, the morning I had awaited for finally came and I ran down swiftly from the bed to prepare the meal.

 When I got to the kitchen, the cook was already awake and was about to prepare the pack's meal.

 "Good morning there," I greeted with a broad smile hanging on my face.

 "Thank goodness, I am just in time," I let out a sigh of relief.

 "Good morning my lady," she returned with a slight bow. "What do I owe this great visit to my aboard?" she said to me smiling.

 "Hmm..m," I faked a stutter.

 "I want to prepare a delicious meal for the Alpha," I said to her.

 "But the Alpha is going to be angry if he finds out about this," the cook tried to dissuade me from cooking the meal but her mere words were certainly not going to stop me from what I had decided in my heart to do.

 "I don't think he would, I already informed him about it," I informed the cook.

 "Okay my lady," she says with a slight bow. "If you say so," she noted.

 "Thank you," I returned.

 I watched her as she gradually walked out of the kitchen. It was so cool how I was deceiving all of them with so much ease, they were all a bunch of fools, and when I am eventually done with them, they would regret coming down to earth," I thought.

 I searched for the grain where I had hidden it the previous night and I began to prepare the Alpha's Downfall.

 About an hour later, I was done preparing the meal and I dished it into the plate.

 "Now I will just have to inform you that his food or rather, his death is ready," I said to myself with a dark smile hovering on my lips.

 I walked slowly to his room, placing my feet royally on the floor.

 Halfway through my journey, I slipped right beside a sculpture with a spear-like head structure

 And I almost pierced my skull into it but someone held me from behind.

 I could feel my heart pounding hard against my chest. I almost ended my life just now but thanks to this unknown person, I am still alive.

 I turned around swiftly to see the face of my savior and I discovered that it was Alpha Nathan.

 "Thank you very much mate," I said to him with my heart still racing while I was trying to catch my breath.

 "No, don't thank you. I am glad I came here on time, I don't know what my life would have been without you," he said to me looking straight into my eyes and I could see tears in those eyes.

 I felt heartbroken and I saw myself as the beast. He saw me as his mate, as someone who loved him, as his future but I was none of this, rather I was his death, his pain, his sorrow, and his eventual downfall.

 I pulled away from him swiftly, already feeling guilty.

 "Please next time be careful, for me," he said to me.

 "I will," I nodded. His love was so pure and genuine. And I had never felt anything like it before. Nobody ever showed me so much affection.

 Deep down, I knew I liked him but I had a mission to finish up with, I had a pack to serve.

 "I will have to go get you a meal now," I said to him and walked away.

 I walked into the kitchen like a wounded lion. How can I do such a thing to someone who loved me so much that I was ready to give his life for me?

 "I feel like the devil himself," I whispered to myself.

 But then, I thought about the mission to take over the pack and the high expectations of my father and the pack, I could not let them down, I had to do this.

 I was disciplined and love was just a feeling, with time, it was going to pass.

 "You will have to do this Jessica and get over with it," I said to myself with a deep sigh.

 "Soon everything will be over and you will have no regrets."

 I dished the food into a plate and balanced it on a tray. Slowly, I walked over to his room and placed the meal right before him.

 "Here is your meal my Love," I said to him with a lovely smile hanging on his face.

 He stared at the food and back at my smiling face. "I love you",he said to me and you are the greatest gift I have ever received.

 He drew over to me and kissed me passionately on my lips, not wanting to let go.

 A few minutes later, he pulled away from me. "You know what," he said to me with a smile on his face.

 "Even if I am asked to abandon this pack for your sake, I will do it without thinking twice," he said to me.

 The words struck me like a lightning bolt. He was ready to sacrifice everything for his greatest enemy.

 "I can't allow him to have that meal, my concise won't let me be," I thought in my head.

 "Whatever you do, do not let that meal go down his throat," my mate Kate said to me.

 "But what do I do now," I thought.

 "I have an idea."

 "I will leave you now," I said to him and got up from the bed.

 Then I faked falling and I deliberately hit my legs on the table, making the food spill over the place.

 "Oh my goodness, I am very sorry. Please don't be angry," I apologized quickly. "I am just having a little headache," I Apologized.

 "No need to apologize, love, it's not your fault," returned.

 "I will just prepare another meal after I clean up this mess," I announced and he shot a deadly stare at me.

 "I know you love me so much but you aren't doing any of that," he said to me.

 "But," I tried to complain but he would not let me spill out a single word.

 "No buts, you need to see the physician," he noted, genuinely worried for me.

 *Sighs*

 "Okay, if you say so. But allow me to get a wash first," I said to him and ran out of the room.

 I could feel hot tears forming at the corner of my eyes as I ran to the bathroom.

 "I can't do this, I can't," I sobbed there.

 "I have always tried to hide this fact but I love him very much. But what about my father and the mission my pack members placed in my hands, am I going to abandon all of that for the so-called love," I said to myself as fear tears poured down from my confused eyes.
