“Dig in. I know you’re hungry. I’ll join you in a while.”
“Hmm.” She picked up the utensils and began eating. Alex went to distribute the other dishes to the wolves before joining her.
“Don’t spoil me. Or the wolves for that matter. They might come looking for you every morning.” She had to remind him, but he noticed the sadness in her tone.
His heart felt itchy. He took a moment to contemplate.
“I mean, I didn’t do it just to earn your forgiveness. I did it to show I care. I wanted to take care of you and the wolves who mean so much to you. I’m not going to stop just because I already earned your forgiveness. Unless I’m away, I’ll surely make breakfast for all of you.” He took her hand and pressed kisses on her knuckles.
“Really?” It was as if she couldn’t believe it and it pained him a little. He was really a stupid jerk.
