" She feels threatened by my presence here. She will do everything to get rid of me. What would an explanation do me? Nobody would believe me." Maya said shrugging nonchalantly.

Looking at her, Killian wondered if she really was going to let herself be punished for something she didn't do.

" I believe you didn't do it, I guess that's enough. Don't worry, I will always be on your side." He added, gazing at her lovingly.

Maya's eyes widened in surprise. What did he mean by always?

" Don't give a promise you can't keep. I don't want you to protect me. The more you do, the more you'll have a problem with your mother." Maya spoke. She was no fool to not see that Luna Miranda held no affection for her second son.

Why so? She could not help but wonder.

" That's no problem. I'm used to my mother's lack of concern and affection for me. It's been years, I no longer need it. As long as I have you, that's enough." Killian spoke, his eyes staring straight into her own.
