Chapter Forty-Nine - The Homecoming

Lisa’s POV

All went well with the incantation. Amy made me memorise it, just in case. I said it back to her obediently, by rote, then did my best to erase it from my memory. There was no way I was using this by myself. I never thought about my brother needing to know since it was a quick route back to the Alpha King’s castle, the one he’d seized for services rendered. For sure he would send a war party and not trust to paranormal tricks. Besides, I didn’t want to get Amy into trouble for being a witch.

Trying not to think about what the Lycan would do to Jake’s sister on her return, I splashed through the puddles at the other side, behaving like a pup rather than an almost-mated she-wolf. I knew my way from here and hurried, belatedly in fear of the packless.

The border guards didn’t take me for a rogue, which I supposed was something. They knew me by sight and, apparently, the Alpha had said just to “capture me by any means”.

He’d not expected me to be by myself.
