I stormed past Kai knocking my shoulder into his as I passed. I found Kassius in his car, the car was running and he was staring straight at me as if he had been waiting for me to follow. I got in the car on the passenger side and he put the car into gear without another word. He pulled into my driveway and placed the car in park. He turned to face me taking my hand in his. His dark eyes softened when they locked on mine.
‘I know what Kai said to you on your way out today. He has said it to me several times as well. I want you to know I will not let him take you away from me. We belong together. Beta or not you will always come first for me. I hope you realize that.” Kassius told me. My heart was ready to burst at the sincerity in his voice. We had not been dating for very long but what we had was intense and real. I was sure this was the man I would end up mated to.
“He thinks I am a distraction and a danger to the pack. I told him he has no right to demand that we stop seeing each other. I refuse to let him keep me from you. I do have to admit though. I am concerned that our relationship may end up causing you to get hurt and I don't want that. You have to promise me that if there is ever danger you will do what you have to do to take care of yourself and not worry about me. If you are too preoccupied with me it could be dangerous for you.” I stared into his eyes, willing him to understand how serious I was.
“Kitten, the only way to take care of me is to make sure you are safe. I could never let anything happen to you. Losing you will literally kill me. If I can't be with you I don't want to live any more. I know it sounds crazy but you are my world” Kassius leaned in planted small kisses down my neck before moving up and taking my bottom lip between his teeth. A moan escaped my lips and I heard a low growl in his chest. I pulled away knowing I had very little time to run inside and change for work before I would end up late.
The house seemed quiet, I assumed uncle Laurence was at the bar already. I ran to my room to change as quickly as I could. Once I had my uniform on I tied my hair up in a simple bun. I walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I stepped in the bathroom and heard the unmistakable sound of water on the floor. I flicked on the light to see water about an inch high covering the bathroom floor. It was then that I noticed the shower was still running. I assumed uncle Laurence had left it running in a drunken stupor. It wouldn't be the first time. I grabbed all the towels I could find to soak up the water. I made my way to the shower and pulled the curtain back to turn the knob off.
As soon as I pulled the curtain back I blood curdling scream left my throat. Uncle Laurence was laying in the tub, his skin was blue and cold to the touch. There was no doubting that he was dead and had been most of the day. Kassius came running in the house hearing me scream. He found me in the bathroom and noticed immediately the body laying in the tub. He wrapped his strong arms around me and I buried my face in his chest, inhaling the ocean breeze scent that was the only thing keeping me calm at the moment. I allowed Kassius to pull me from the house and onto the front porch. I sat on the bench on the porch still processing what this meant for me, as Kassius made the appropriate calls. He called the pack hospital for an ambulance. Then he called Kai, it was customary to call the Alpha when a member of the pack had passed away.
Kai arrived within minutes as did the ambulance. I did not move from the bench as people were coming in and out of the house. The motion became a blur. People were asking me questions but their voices were muffled and sounded like they were miles away. I couldn't focus enough to pick out any specific words. My entire body felt numb. I wasn't sure if I was sad or happy, mad or relieved.
I noticed Kassius standing a few feet ahead of me acting as a buffer between myself and the endless horde of EMT’s and pack officials. I was thankful to have him here to shield me from the onslaught of questions about what had happened.
The door opened and a stretcher rolled out. I could make out the form of uncle Laurence underneath the white sheet that had been placed over his body. The EMT loaded the stretcher into the ambulance and drove away. The pack officials were next to leave. I let out a deep breath as the hordes of people had cleared out.
Kassius sat next to me on the bench and I leaned into him resting my head on his shoulder as he wrapped an arm around me pulling me close. I heard footsteps on the wooden porch and lifted my eyes to see Kai standing in front of me.
“I am truly sorry for your loss, Fallon. Please know anything you need, you have my full resources at your disposal. Obviously you are excused from work for as long as you need. I will send movers tomorrow to assist in packing your things and moving them to the pack house.” Kai nodded his head and turned to leave.
“You can't be serious,” Kassius called after him. “She will not be moving into the pack house. If she needs somewhere to go she will come to live with me, afterall in another year once we are mated, she will be coming to live with me anyway.” Kassius insisted.
“Well you are not mated yet, and she is still underage. As such she is the responsibility of the Alpha. My mother has moved away. You can have the entire east wind of the pack house to yourself.” Kai focused on me.
“Sorry to tell you but you can't just throw your money around and impress her like you can the other whores in this town. Fallon will be moving in with me.” Kassius was becoming angry, his dark eyes looking to be solid black.
“This is not up for discussion. Once she is mated she can live with whoever she chooses. Until then she is my responsibility and will be living in the pack house.” Kai boomed. “Movers will arrive tomorrow. I will be sure to have your room ready.”
Kai turned and left. Kassius wrapped his arms around me holding me tight. While he was restraining himself for my sake I knew this discussion was far from oer for him. Kassius pressed a final kiss to my forehead and went to his car.
I spent the night with Santana and Xander. Santana did a great job of getting my mind off of everything that had happened in the last few days. I woke up early to head home and begin packing everything. The overs arrived at noon exactly. I had already boxed up all of my belongings as there wasn’t much to begin with. Kai met me at the door to welcome me to my new home.
“Now that you will be leaving here, there are a few things we need to talk about.” Kai began. “You are an official member of the Alpha family which means you will no longer work for the family. Anything you need will be paid for by the family. Here is your credit card. I want you to feel at home here. Feel free to treat this as your own home in every way. The only rule I have is that while you are living in my home you are not to see Kassius unless it concerns his role as future beta.”
The next morning I woke up early hoping to grab a bite to eat and make my way to school before Kai realized I had gone. My plan was to avoid him as much as possible for the next year. I was grateful he had provided me a place to stay and welcomed me as a part of his family, however I knew it was also his way of controlling my relationship with Kassius and that only proved to make me angry all over again.I threw on my school uniform and made my way to the kitchen. If the cook had not made breakfast yet I would just grab some fruit and head out. I didn’t have time to wait around. As I rounded the corner towards the kitchen I could hear bacon frying and pots and pans being moved. My stomach started to rumble. I guess I was hungrier than I thought, I told myself. Good thing the Alpha’s cook starts early. I stopped dead in my tracks when I finally entered the kitchen.
Today was the day of the mating ceremony I was on my way to Santana and Xander’s house to say goodbye before we left for the next couple days. At the ceremony female wolves are given rankings based on their strength and likelihood to be a good match for an alpha. The best rankings were a 10, the weakest wolves were ranked as a one. Female wolves were to stay with those that were ranked the same as them so I very well may be split from my friend. It may be the last time I see them as unmated wolves. I was excited to see who their mates would be, but I was also sad at the thought that my friend may end up leaving our pack. It was tradition for newly mated couples to live with the male wolves pack.As I walked into the house I found Xander looking less than thrilled. I made my way up the stairs to Santana’s room. She was dressed in a skin tight white dress that left little to the imagination
The caravan to the mating ceremony was separated into two different buses, one for boys and one for girls. Luckily This year the ceremony was being held at a pack that was only about an hour and a half away from our pack. I had heard of years when people had to travel over a day to get to the ceremony. I was certain there was no way I could contain myself for that long.I sat with Santana on the bus, Echo sat in the seat in front of us with a girl I had never met before I assumed she was her sister as they looked very similar. We all of the girls were gossiping about the guys going to the ceremony. Someone mentioned they heard there were at last three alpha’s up for grabs at this year’s ceremony. It was natural for a she-wolf to want to be mated to an alpha; it was in our competitive nature. I, on the other hand, was not interested in meeting any alpha. I knew who my mate was and the one
The alpha tent was filled with the most luxurious items, intended to make us forget we were in the middle of an open field in the middle of summer. There were large plush chairs that looked so soft they could have been made of actual clouds. The chairs were positioned in groups of five, each group surrounding a golden colored metal coffee table with a glass top. In the center of the tent there was a large bar where they offered any kind of drink you could come up with. There were several large flat screen t.v.’s at the end of the tent showing a variety of sports and shows. I located a group of chairs that was empty and decided to have a minute to myself to take everything in.I looked around the entire ceremony space as I sat in the most comfortable chair I had ever seen, reminding myself to find out how to get one for my new home once Kassius and I moved into our own place. The area was huge.
A loud Snarl sounded throughout the ceremony grounds. It took me a moment to realize it was coming from Kai. Before I could even think about what had just happened, Kassius had tackled Kai to the ground. A large crowd began to gather around, many shouting cheers for whoever they wanted to win the fight. I looked around and noticed many of our pack members were in absolute shock. Some of them were staring at me as if I had planned this purposely. A lump swelled in my throat as I watched the scene unfold. Kai flipped Kassius off of him quickly standing. In a flash Kassius was barreling towards Kai again. I could see the pure rage flashing in his eyes and felt my stomach twist at the thought. Kassius jumped towards Kai, Kai caught him in mid air bringing him down and slamming him against a tree. “Think about this Kass, I don't
I was young when my parents died. Only 9 at the time. They died fighting in the pack war. The same one that killed our last Alpha. Our pack eventually won the war but at great cost. We lost almost half of our warriors during the war. My name is Fallon Thomas, I am part of the Crescent Falls pack of Oregon. After the war we absorbed the Blood Moon pack, making our pack now the largest in the country. My uncle Laurence had taken me in after my parents passed at the request of our Luna. She had taken over the pack for her son as he was not yet old enough to take over as Alpha. It was unconventional sure, but our Luna was a strong woman and no one would dare question her. The future Alpha, Kai, was my age. Exactly my age, we shared a birthday. When we were young we would even share birthday parties due to the fact that my father had been the Beta of the pack. Our parents had b
The mating ceremony was mandatory for all unmated wolves between the ages of 18 and 22. Every pack in the country sent their young wolves to the ceremony. I still had one year before I was able to go but at least I would know what to expect after Santana goes this year. This will be Xander’s second year at the ceremony but the process is different for men. Men did the choosing and if they chose not to take a mate then they left and came back the next year. Women, on the other hand, could not turn down a mate that chose them. If there were multiple men who chose the same woman they would traditionally fight for her, although nowadays women were able to choose which one of the men they wanted to be their mate. The only time it came to fight now is when one of the male wolves refused to accept the females choice.Xander had
I rushed to get my chores done within the next hour before my meeting with Kai. Once I finished I went upstairs and knocked on the office door. My stomach was in knots a mix of nerves and butterflies. Even though Kai and I had been close years ago the prospect of working with him to plan one of the most important ceremonies a pack could hold made me feel like I wanted to vomit. Kai wasn't the same six year old boy I used to play basketball with or the one who used to give me a new elephant figurine for my birthday each year because he knew it was my favorite animal. He had grown up, we both had. I didn't know this Kai and I was terrified he may have become much more demanding of his employees than I remember.“Come in.” He called out flatly. I entered the room and noticed he was on the phone. He held up one finger to let me know to give h

The next day at school things were completely different than what I was used to. Kassius picked me up that morning to ride to school together. We walked into school together, his arm around me and carrying my books with his free hand. Every step we took caused more heads to turn and more eyes landing on us. Most people had heard Kassius’ declaration that I belonged to him at the party however most assumed it was the alcohol talking or just his way of getting in my pants. None of them expected to see us still together today.Kassius walked me to my first class holding my hand, we stopped just outside of the door and he placed a long kiss on my lips. I could feel my cheeks redden as I was not used to such public displays and I knew without a doubt that everyone was watching us.
Kassius and I spent the entire weekend together. My uncle spent his weekends at bars or passed out so he never noticed I wasn't home. Kassius showed me some of his favorite hangout spots. There was a small pool hall just outside of town that he loved. He took me there one night. It was run by one of the older pack members so they allowed us to have drinks even though we were under age. Kassius was somewhat of a pool shark and enjoyed playing. I, on the other hand, had never once played and he decided it was time that I learn. The pool hall was pretty quiet when we got there. The building was very old and run down looking. The inside was dark, there was a small bar on one side with about six barstools. There were several booths lining the walls. All the walls were painted a dark green and were covered in photos and vintage metal signs. The back of the place had several pinball machines and
“Are you ready? We are going to a party at Jasmine’s house.” he opened the door and led me out.He led me to his car and opened the door for me before going around to get in himself. “I hope you are ok with the party.” he said. “I had promised to make an appearance and I thought you may enjoy it since I don't think I have ever seen you at a single one of the parties I have ever gone to.”“The party is a great idea, you are right I don't get out a lot.” I assured him.“Well I plan to change that kitten.” he game me that cocky smirk that made my heart flutterWe arrived at the party and again he opened the door of the car for me and held out his hand to assist me in getting out of the car.
