A loud Snarl sounded throughout the ceremony grounds. It took me a moment to realize it was coming from Kai. The alpha tent was filled with the most luxurious items, intended to make us forget we were in the middle of an open field in the middle of summer. There were large plush chairs that looked so soft they could have been made of actual clouds. The chairs were positioned in groups of five, each group surrounding a golden colored metal coffee table with a glass top. In the center of the tent there was a large bar where they offered any kind of drink you could come up with. There were several large flat screen t.v.’s at the end of the tent showing a variety of sports and shows. I located a group of chairs that was empty and decided to have a minute to myself to take everything in.I looked around the entire ceremony space as I sat in the most comfortable chair I had ever seen, reminding myself to find out how to get one for my new home once Kassius and I moved into our own place. The area was huge.

The caravan to the mating ceremony was separated into two different buses, one for boys and one for girls. Luckily This year the ceremony was being held at a pack that was only about an hour and a half away from our pack. I had heard of years when people had to travel over a day to get to the ceremony. I was certain there was no way I could contain myself for that long.I sat with Santana on the bus, Echo sat in the seat in front of us with a girl I had never met before I assumed she was her sister as they looked very similar. Today was the day of the mating ceremony I was on my way to Santana and Xander’s house to say goodbye before we left for the next couple days. At the ceremony female wolves are given rankings based on their strength and likelihood to be a good match for an alpha. The best rankings were a 10, the weakest wolves were ranked as a one. Female wolves were to stay with those that were ranked the same as them so I very well may be split from my friend. It may be the last time I see them as unmated wolves. I was excited to see who their mates would be, but I was also sad at the thought that my friend may end up leaving our pack. The next morning I woke up early hoping to grab a bite to eat and make my way to school before Kai realized I had gone. My plan was to avoid him as much as possible for the next year. I was grateful he had provided me a place to stay and welcomed me as a part of his family, however I knew it was also his way of controlling my relationship with Kassius and that only proved to make me angry all over again.I threw on my school uniform and made my way to the kitchen. If the cook had not made breakfast yet I would just grab some fruit and head out. I didn’t have time to wait around. As I rounded the corner towards the kitchen I could hear bacon frying and pots and pans being moved. My stomach started to rumble. I guess I was hungrier than I thought, I told myself. Good thing the Alpha’s cook starts early. I stopped dead in my tracks when I finally entered the kitchen.

I stormed past Kai knocking my shoulder into his as I passed. I found Kassius in his car, the car was running and he was staring straight at me as if he had been waiting for me to follow. I got in the car on the passenger side and he put the car into gear without another word. He pulled into my driveway and placed the car in park. He turned to face me taking my hand in his. His dark eyes softened when they locked on mine.‘I know what Kai said to you on your way out today. He has said it to me several times as well. I want you to know I will not let him take you away from me. We belong together. Beta or not you will always come first for me. I hope you realize that.” Kassius told me. My heart was ready to burst at the sincerity in his voice. We had not been dating for very long but what we had was intense and real. I was sure this was the man I would end up mated to.
