SCARLETT : It had only been a week since I found out who my mate was. I was still in shock after knowing that I was fated to the Alpha of my pack; Alpha Jax. It was a day after my eighteenth birthday and the day I got my wolf. I caught glimpses of him when he came around the pack house, but I didn't dare move near him. How could I? I was an Omega, the weakest of my pack. I mean, one of the weakest of my pack. The powerful wedded the powerful, and the weak ones got each other. Just like my parents did, passing on the misfortune to me. However, luck seemed to embrace me enough to think of me as worthy of a man like Alpha Jax. All that was left was for him to accept me. I gulped at the thought. There was a hundred percent chance that he would reject me on the spot. At least, that was what I thought until he invited me to his place. My hands shook with trepidation, but my wolf comforted me. "It'll be fine, he's your mate, and you're destined to be with him." "You don't understand." I groaned inwardly. "It's Alpha Jax, not just any regular man out there." The doors to his well-plush cabin made of the finest dark wood opened for me, and his housekeeper welcomed me into it. "Miss Scarlett. Alpha Jax is waiting for you in the bedroom." I swallowed hard, and my cheeks grew hot. "B-bedroom?" "Yes." He said with a serious expression as though whatever he spat out wasn't unbelievable. Me in the Alpha's bedroom? I felt like I was floating on air and would soon drop down in an instant! I thought I would pass out when his chauffeur came to my house to pick me up. I was thankful that it was just my twin, Sophie, and I at home. The second time I thought I was dead when he told me that Alpha Jax wanted me in the cabin. That was where he took time off work, away from people and relaxed. The cabin was located near a serene lake that looked like it was brought out of a fairytale during sundown and at night, beautiful neat greenery surrounded it making it more pleasant to the eyes. I couldn't soak in the luxurious interior as much as I wanted because his housekeeper brought me out of my thoughts. "Miss." "Y-yes." I had not set my eyes on him yet I was already stuttering. "Let's go." He ushered me to the front of the room and softly knocked on the door. "Alpha Jax. Miss Scarlett has arrived." "Let her in." My heart began to thud so rapidly in my chest that I thought it would explode. "Be confident." My wolf told me, if only I could side-eye with my soul. I adjusted my flay gown as if it would get any prettier by doing that, I checked my breath and wished that I could conjure a mirror to check if I looked good one last time. The housekeeper opened the door for me when I could not move, and vanished like he was never there. I never knew old men could be snitches. As much as I wanted to keep my head down after closing the door behind me, the sight of him was enough to draw me in. He sat on a brown lush couch next to his king-sized bed. Manly, muscled arms filled the arms of a long white-sleeved shirt making them wrinkled, those arms were the first thing I noticed while he took off the glasses on his face. There I thought he actually relaxed at the cabin when he was busy working. He slid the stray strands of dark hair covering his seductive whiskey eyes so he could see me properly or so that I could see them. Whatever it was, the view made me forget whatever anxiety I had before, well, that was before he spoke again. "Scarlett." His baritone voice called my name in a way that made me want to drop on my knees or maybe it was the mate bond, all I knew was that no one had ever called my name like that. "Yes, Alpha Jax." I managed to say. "Do you know why you are here?" "No." I shook my head. "You should." He stood up giving me a full view. Long legs, halfway unbuttoned shirt, whiskey eyes. He added with a sly grin. "We are mates after all." I could not find a suitable response to give so I stayed silent. He inched closer and brushed my hair away from my face, each motion caused goosebumps to fill my body. And my lips parted just from the graze of his fingers from my cheeks to my nape. It wasn't anything big, but it felt so lustful. He slowly and gently circled his hand around my neck making me gasp for air. Before I could process whatever was happening fully, his lips were on mine. If it were any other man I would've pushed him away, but this was different. Perhaps, because he was my mate, that or because it was my first time too. His tongue tasted of rich dark red wine yet he didn't seem drunk. I didn't even have the ability to be thankful for brushing my teeth before coming over to his place. As his tongue explored my mouth, my body grew hotter and hotter so much that I thought I would burn into ashes. After leaving me dazed and confused he took a few steps back. I didn't want him away, I wanted him as close as possible. With a raspy voice along with a commanding tone, he sternly whispered. "Undress for me, Scarlett." I wanted to hesitate, but my core was pulsing with so much need. I thought I would die if he didn't touch me again. It was shameless of me, but I didn't care. "Look at me while you take off your clothes." He instructed. My lips stayed slightly parted as I unzipped my dress, and like he wanted I did not look away while I took off the rest of my clothes. It was only after I was completely bare before him did I feel the cold of the night. The wind brushed against my nipples making them painfully harder. I tried to cover myself but he gripped my hands. Shame covered my body in red as I became aware of the fact that he was fully clothed when I had nothing on. And it looked more like a tomato when I realized my body was in the scrutiny of his gaze. Everywhere he touched after that made my senses heighten and my toes curl. I could not believe the indecent profanities that came out of his mouth while he squeezed, pinched, and grazed his teeth over wherever he wanted. It all happened so fast that I didn't know all his clothes were off till I heard a soft, metallic rasp fill the air as his zipper drew down. The sound sent electricity straight to the pit of my stomach, making my core ache deeper for him. My pupils dilated at the sight of how big and hard he was. I wanted to scream but my throat was too dry to. He helped me accommodate his size, afterwards, only moans, groans, and profanities filled the room. "You're so wet, Scarlett. You're f*cking wet for me," he growled, his voice filled with possessiveness. I bit my lip and held onto the sheet, giving in to the constant pleasure being thrust between my thighs. "Yes, Alpha Jax." I moaned, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm so wet for you, I'm all yours." He gripped my hips tightly, his fingers digging into my skin as he thrust into me with intense ardor. "Say it again," he demanded in his deep, husky voice. "I'm so wet for you," I cried out, my voice rising with each thrust as I came all over his hard member. Our breaths more ragged as we rode to our highs. He finished not long after I did and he got off me, speedily wrapping a towel around himself and leaving me on the bed like I was never even there. "Get cleaned up, and go home." He coldly told me. "What?" I managed to reply, still trying to recover from whatever happened. "Honestly, you're a good f*ck, but you'll never be a good Luna. You're weak and definitely not the woman I need by my side to run the pack. I, Alpha Jax Roman of the Moonstone pack reject you, Scarlett De Luca as my mate and Luna." His words struck me like lightning, and all the ecstasy I had been riding on faded instantly, leaving me all high and dry.SCARLETT :If only he hadn't touched me as if he truly desired me. If only he had been upfront about it when I arrived at his cabin, maybe the hurt wouldn't have been so bitter. The look in his eyes was vastly different from the one he had when he was on top of me. I could have sworn I wasn't imagining it, but who's to say?"You can't do this to me," I croaked, a tear streaming down my cheek. "Not after what we just did.""You wanted it too, Scarlett," he smirked like the devil. "You had the chance to push me away, but you didn't, did you? If you don't want to freshen up in my bathroom, that's fine. You can just go home. The chauffeur will be waiting.""Why?" I sobbed. "You can't be serious. That was my first time."I saw his eyes soften for a moment before returning to their stern expression. "I thought so too from the way you lay flat like a board." He moved closer to me, towering over my frame. "If you think that would be enough to trap me, you're pitifully wrong." His words seeped
SCARLETT :The next day, I registered an application as the kitchen's main chef and chief server for the Alpha's kitchen. It was a whole competition. I had expected it. Anyone would want to work close to him. Pleasing Alpha Jax could lead to earning a small favor from him or so I heard.Three days later, I was given a letter to participate. The best chef would win the spot."Are you sure you don't want to get a job elsewhere? As much as the Alpha gives favors when he's pleased which is rare, he gets upset when his steak isn't properly made. The last chef and his assistant quit three days after the appointment." My mother's eyes creased with worry. Sophie and I got blonde hair from our mother, while our amber-green eyes from our dad who had brown hair."Your mom's right, Hun." My dad said out of concern. "We all know you're a softie. You might not be able to handle his criticisms. One of the cleaners at the pack house ran back home in tears and begged her parents to let her quit after
SCARLETT :I was to resume two days before the Alpha returned to the pack house. His personal assistant arrived ahead of time to give us a tour and inform us of his menu for the week.Standing at 5'11, with dark hair and brown eyes, Mr. Hensley Victor, the Alpha's personal assistant, had a large scowl on his face."I am Scarlett De Luca," I introduced myself."I'm Reyes Von," the Chief Chef introduced himself."Nice to meet you," Mr Hensley replied."Thank you, Mr. Hensley," I smiled."Please, call me Victor," he told us. His voice seemed calm, but his expression was stern. "I don't like being called Hensley.""Yes, Sir Victor," we chorused."Since you two passed the last stage, I have no worries regarding the steak. In the past, it wasn't a requirement to know the recipe before getting the job, but due to previous issues, we had to implement that. The recipe can be difficult to follow."I could only wonder what the grand Luna was thinking when she made the recipe."Thank you, sir," w
JAX:Once a year, everyone in the Moonstone pack comes to celebrate the pack's anniversary. The Moonstone pack had existed for four hundred years. Once I turned eighteen six years ago, my father retired, and I inherently became the Alpha of the pack.Hosting its anniversary was no small issue; it had to happen in dignified grandeur. Thankfully, my mother was there to make this year's event a success. Something told me that I'd meet someone important there. It was mere coincidence that my eyes diverted to a pair of amber eyes staring at me in disbelief. I did have that aura; I knew women fawned over me. The benefits of being Alpha to one of the greatest packs to ever exist. Being good-looking was a bonus as well. With pure blonde hair, average height, shiny big eyes, plump lips, and eye-drawing curves that filled her black lengthy dress. But an Omega.Scarlett De Luca."Mate," my wolf spoke as my eyes lingered on her. It had only occurred to me that she stared at me for the same reason
JAX:"What are you doing here?" I asked Zharn."You told me to stop by later. As your Beta, I should know about your travels," he smugly replied, with that sheepish grin still on his lips. "So, new interest?""First off, that is none of your business. Also, knock next time," I glared at him. "Now sit.""I'm hurt," he faked a pained expression with his hand on his chest. "I'm your best friend, your right-hand man, and you say it is none of my business? Didn't know you'd cast me aside for love.""Zharn, get out," I pointed to the door."Calm down, Alpha Jax. I am here for the pack's matters." He raised his hands in surrender."We'll talk about that later," I sighed, with my hand to my temple."I get it, you must need more time with your new woman.""She's not my woman," I frowned. "Unless you want to discuss you and her twin sister, keep your mouth shut.""Excuse me?""Drop the act, Zharn," I told him. "I caught you staring at her this morning before I entered my chamber."Zharn got up
SCARLETT :After our tête-à-tête in the morning, I made up my mind to avoid him for the day. From Reyes' expression when I came out of the Alpha's office, he wasn't sure if he was ready to meet him, but he did it for me, only for his fears to be confirmed and for me to be pushed back into that cell he calls an office. I almost could not believe that he gave me a deadline. He really wanted to get rid of me.Would my plan actually work, or should I give up before it's too late? I thought. But then I remembered he was the one who drew me to him first, then tried to push me off just like that. I wasn't going to take it easy with him. He had to pay dearly for treating me worthlessly. I might be an Omega, but that does not make me completely useless.I dropped my bag and slumped on my bed. Not long after, Sophie dragged herself in. I could tell she was exhausted, maybe more than I was."I hate Beta Zharn. He's insufferable..." She began ranting immediately."What do you think? He's best fri
JAX:She has infiltrated my life completely, and I don't know whether it's schemed or not. I keep thinking about her, her stubbornness, and her defiance against me.I connect with my wolf, hoping he'd help me with guidance on how to get her out of my life faster, but he goes on to tell me about how strong our bond actually is and how I should give in to it. He clearly did not know how unfortunate the situation was. It's still early in the morning, and I'm already pouring myself a glass of whiskey while I run through paperwork. I didn't get drunk easily. It would take me more than ten bottles to get me drunk, however, the scorching hotness of the liquid running down my throat and the bulky contracts to read, both on paper and my laptop, gave me something else to worry about.A guard enters my office. I told him not to let anyone in if it wasn't for breakfast. I wasn't hungry; all I wanted was to see Scarlett so I could remind her that the clock was ticking. It wasn't going to be long b
SCARLETT :"Alpha Jax requests your presence, Miss De Luca," one of Alpha Jax's burly guards informed me.I groaned inwardly. "What else could he possibly want from me?" I made sure to drop the food on the table for him."I'll be there in a minute," I replied. They opened the door to his office for me."Taste the food," he ordered me without wasting time.I forgot about that. "Let me go get my cutlery and plate.""Use mine.""It's against the rules.""Who's in charge of making sure those rules are enforced, Scarlett?""You," I answered."Exactly.""So ironic. He's in charge of enforcing the rules but he's the same person breaking them," I grumbled."You really have to stop muttering to yourself when I'm close by. I'd rather you say those words to my face," he added. "And yes, I can bend the rules if I want."Dammit. I keep forgetting that his hearing was really sharp. After testing the food, my instincts told me it would be best to leave. "If that will be all, I'd like to take my leav
SOPHIE :One week had passed, and there was still no news about Scarlett. The reward prize had initially caused a frenzy among the pack members, with search parties being organized to find her.People were curious. "Who was she? Why was the reward money so substantial?"The attention shifted to my family, as onlookers came by to catch a glimpse of our lives. They were eager to understand why the top noble men and eligible bachelors of the pack were so determined to find Scarlett De Luca.Mom found it hard to eat, and dad had put his bakery shop dreams on hold.Zharn and I stopped at Cage's place to take a break from all the troubles of the day, as Zharn called it."Sophie, you have to eat," Zharn said, holding a bowl of Greek yogurt in my direction. It was tempting, but not enough to awaken my appetite. How could so many things happen to Scarlett in just a few months?Kidnapped.Possessed by some divine spirit. And now she's kidnapped again. It was hard for me to wrap my head around.
JAX:"Do I get to see Scarlett?" Aaron asked me after we concluded our meeting."No, you do not," I scowled. He insisted on coming to our pack for the meeting, no matter how much I told him I'd come over instead. His pack had one of the most secure borders, and I needed his insights alone. I should have asked him through letters, although he might not have divulged in that regard.I'm not particularly upset about it. I don't have to deal with Rosie, and that's fair to me. But I didn't want him to show up because of this."I'll just ask Zharn Meyers or Harrison. I'm sure they'll be happy to help," he said smugly. If it weren't for how useful our alliance has come to be, I'd have had him sent back without thinking twice. My phone vibrated in my pocket. "Excuse me."I was shocked to see Sophie De Luca calling me. She never has. Something did not feel right."Hello," she frantically said as soon as I picked up the call. "Is Scarlett with you?""No, she isn't," my muscles tensed. "What is
SOPHIE DE LUCAThe dress felt like a second skin, smooth and weightless, the black satin fabric cascading over my frame like liquid midnight. I stood before the mirror, adjusting the delicate jeweled straps on my shoulders, watching how the deep V neckline subtly accentuated my collarbones. The bodice hugged my waist just right, flowing into a floor-length skirt that billowed slightly with each breath. But the best part? The thigh-high slit—a little daring, a little dangerous. It gave just enough of a glimpse when I walked, adding a bold edge to the elegance. My blonde hair fell in loose waves down my back, catching the light as I turned my head. Diamond drop earrings shimmered just below my jawline, and a thin silver bracelet adorned my wrist—simple, refined, perfect.A pair of sleek black stilettos completed the look, adding just enough height to make sure I met my date’s gaze without having to crane my neck. Not that it mattered—he was still taller."You look amazing," my twin comp
SOPHIE:I thought everything was going great. We've had the best time in a long time. A farmhouse, friends our age, good dates with Zharn. Not until Cage told me that Scarlett had another nightmare. It gave me the feeling that her situation was more than what she let on. A part of her was tied to that memory.I paced around as Papa settled more bills regarding his small pastry shop building. He wanted to give it a countryside look, hence what he wanted it to be made of nice wood."Sophie, come help me," Mom asked for my assistance with milking Sally and Molly. Side effects of the farm life. She pointed to the shed. "Can you go feed Brownie?""Mom, you know she only likes you.""And Cage," she added."Exactly, which is why you should feed. I'll milk Sally."We continued the argument until she agreed to get it done herself, and that, kids, is how you dodge chores or swap whichever. My phone vibrated in my pocket, and as soon as I saw the caller ID, I thought the cows needed a break."He
SCARLETT :As Cage promised, he was there in three hours. I confided in Sophie about Lucinda and lied to my parents about filing in some information at the culinary school."Thank you for coming to pick me up. I shouldn't have yelled at you." I did my best to face my actions."I deserved to be yelled at," he replied, facing the road. No, Cage. You do not deserve it one bit.I closed my eyes and let the breeze from the weather carry me away. And I'm back in front of the tall building that hosts Lucinda's office."Scarlett!" Miss Kim ran to embrace me.She's still cheerful. She's so lucky. Last time I saw her, we were talking about a Channing Hayton movie."Miss Kim." I embraced her. Cage waited for me in his car like he always does."I'm so happy to see you. Well, I shouldn't be because you shouldn't be coming here again..." She went on and on. "Let me inform Dr. Lucinda of your arrival."She left me alone in the waiting room, and suddenly I missed her. I didn't want to be left alone.
SCARLETT :It's dark.I'm tied up.It's the devil. He's Logan.I can't breathe.I can't move. He's dragging my hair. He's breaking my spirit. He's ripping off my clothes."Let me go!" I finally scream, feeling all muddy and sweaty, flailing in desperation. "Let me go!"He doesn't.He laughs at my displeasure. His eyes glint with victory. He's going to kill me."No. No. No." I open my eyes.I'm alive. There's light.I'm not bound. But I can't breathe.I'm sweating.I'm crying. My heart is pounding.I pant, I have to, my life depends on it.I fumble with my phone and call Cage.He picks up on the fifth ring."Goodness, Scarlett," he breathes into the phone. "Are you okay? It's two in the morning.""I need Dr. Lucinda's number. Now!" My teeth chatter."Scarlett, are you okay?""Cage, give me her number!" I'm agitated, frustrated, and still cannot breathe properly."Fuck, okay." Cage cusses, he rarely does. And in no time, he sends it.I dial her number immediately.Sixth ring."Who's thi
SCARLETT :Harrison Cage, you are a witch! The chickens stayed calm as he fed them, but he witnessed as they tried to come for me, so I guess he understands the reason why I was that scared."They don't like you very much," he pointed out."Gee. Thanks," I said flatly."Aw, c'mon Scarlett De Luca, are you mad at your good friend?" He feigned sadness."Yes, I am. Said good friend just laughed at my misery.""And said good friend is now apologizing," he bowed with his hand to his head."Jeez, Cage! I held him by his shoulders, lifting his upper body. "Never do that again," I said, dead serious."I won't.""Good.""There's one last thing I need you to do," I said, my eyes glinting with mischief.I gave Cage a bucket of water for Brownie and stood outside her little stable. He came back with his face moist, absolutely disgusted. He smelled like a horse. "She licked my face," he grimaced."Aw, Brownie likes you a lot. That's nice," I wiggled my brows at him."Don't," he warned him.It was
SCARLETT :The past days and weeks have been utter bliss. Life has never been so fulfilling. It almost feels too good to be true. I'm thrilled. I'm scared.Pushing the negatives aside, I remember Lucinda's words. My therapist.Cage said she was hospitalized, but she's recovered just fine and hasn't quit the profession. I was glad. Lucinda was a darling. I hope she never quits."Sophie," my father's voice reaches the room from downstairs.Right. We were supposed to hand out free pastries to the neighborhood as goodwill. Papa's pastry shop was coming into good view, and boy, was I excited for it. Sophie must be up already. I texted Jax into the night. I feel like an actual teenager now. Late-night calls and texting. I loved those activities quite a lot. It's an understatement to say I am not quite fond of them.I got off my bed, looked into my mirror, at my tattoo. My parents don't understand it yet. I have to tell them at some point.I brushed my teeth, had a shower, changed into a gra
SCARLETT :We grabbed some food first and played some outdoor games before heading to the arcade. The neon lights of the arcade cast a colorful glow as Sophie squealed, jumping up and down."It looks just like in the images," I said, delighted that it met our expectations."Right?" Sophie beamed."What games shall we play first?" Zharn asked."I vote air hockey, unless you guys are scared wimps," my twin pointed to Jax and me."What about your boyfriend?" I arched my brows."Nah, Zharn has never and will never be a scared wimp.""Thank you, baby," he leaned down and pecked her cheek."Well, my girlfriend and I aren't scared wimps. Air hockey is too easy."I blushed at Jax's retort. We weren't dating yet.We decided to play as teams: Team Jax and Scarlett and Team Zharie. I can't with their name combination."We won! We beat you two!" Sophie declared, pointing at Jax and me. My mouth hung open in betrayal at the air hockey table."You cheated," I fumed."You both just suck," Zharn grin
