JAX:

She has infiltrated my life completely, and I don't know whether it's schemed or not. I keep thinking about her, her stubbornness, and her defiance against me.

I connect with my wolf, hoping he'd help me with guidance on how to get her out of my life faster, but he goes on to tell me about how strong our bond actually is and how I should give in to it. He clearly did not know how unfortunate the situation was.

It's still early in the morning, and I'm already pouring myself a glass of whiskey while I run through paperwork. I didn't get drunk easily. It would take me more than ten bottles to get me drunk, however, the scorching hotness of the liquid running down my throat and the bulky contracts to read, both on paper and my laptop, gave me something else to worry about.

A guard enters my office. I told him not to let anyone in if it wasn't for breakfast. I wasn't hungry; all I wanted was to see Scarlett so I could remind her that the clock was ticking. It wasn't going to be long b

SCARLETT :"Alpha Jax requests your presence, Miss De Luca," one of Alpha Jax's burly guards informed me.I groaned inwardly. "What else could he possibly want from me?" I made sure to drop the food on the table for him."I'll be there in a minute," I replied. They opened the door to his office for me."Taste the food," he ordered me without wasting time.I forgot about that. "Let me go get my cutlery and plate.""Use mine.""It's against the rules.""Who's in charge of making sure those rules are enforced, Scarlett?""You," I answered."Exactly.""So ironic. He's in charge of enforcing the rules but he's the same person breaking them," I grumbled."You really have to stop muttering to yourself when I'm close by. I'd rather you say those words to my face," he added. "And yes, I can bend the rules if I want."Dammit. I keep forgetting that his hearing was really sharp. After testing the food, my instincts told me it would be best to leave. "If that will be all, I'd like to take my leav

SCARLETT :"He's such a jerk, though," my sister rolled her eyes after I narrated the day's ordeal to her."I know."She giggled. "I bet it would have been so funny to see him in pain.""I didn't think he had any other emotion in him," I snorted."Next time, we should make it planned.""I don't think there'll be a next time, Soph," I sighed. "I think I ruined all my chances with him. I can sniff my quit notice from a mile away."Sophie scoffed. "For stomping the Alpha?"I gave her a knowing look."I know. I know. I just wanted to be optimistic," she beamed. "Don't worry, there are lots of amazing jobs around, and better men like Harrison Cageeee." She nudged her shoulder with mine, wiggling her eyebrows."Sophie, please," it was my turn to roll my eyes. "He's just a kind person.""No, he is.""I'm Zharn's assistant," she reminded me. "I've seen Sir Cage, and he's not nice. He's a robot, he's programmed, and he's dangerous. Yet, he was nice to you, and he said he'd see you later. Not t

SCARLETT :"Do you have everything you need?" My mother asked me for the umpteenth time.I've never spent the night away from home, let alone left our pack. My parents were mortified when I told them, but since it was work, they just had to let me.I knew better than to lie to myself. I heard his voice. I wasn't getting away from him so easily. Sophie told me to fake an illness, and I thought hard about the plan, only to back out at the last minute."What if he takes it out on my family or harms Reyes because of this?" He seemed shameless and petty, and I wasn't one to let others take the fall for my actions. The only solution would be to comply."Yes, I do. It's almost seven," I whined."I'll drive you there," my father got his keys."There's no need, papa," I told him. "I can get there on my own.""I just want to make sure you're safe," my father countered."I think your father should accompany you, Sophie can follow," my mother pushed further. We looked in Sophie's direction."Hell

SCARLETT :She buried her face in the crook of his neck, all that was left was a glimpse of her icy blue eyes staring directly into mine. I didn't need to see the rest of her expression to know that she disliked me."Rosie," Jax gently pushed her off him."Behave, sister. Jax just got here, at least let him get some rest," Aaron chided."Jax is a sweetheart, I'm sure he doesn't mind." She pouted. "Isn't that right, Jaxy?"Okay, there's a lot of things I already hate about this place, and it's all Rosie.Alpha Jax is a sweetheart? She already has a ridiculous nickname for him? Why is he letting her call him Jaxy? Are they lovers? My stomach churned at the thought."It's fine, Aaron," he replied. "Rosie's just excited.""Why wouldn't I be? I haven't seen you in two years." She linked her arm with his. "Come, let me show you to your room. I personally redesigned it to your liking." She giggled. SCARLETT :"Pardon me," I cleared my throat using my fist as a microphone. "Welcome, oh your royal highness," I drawled with sarcasm."Save it," she shut me up."Your majesty, I am quite exhausted. Is it urgent?" I deadpanned."It is actually," she sat on my bed. "What's your relationship with the Alpha?" she asked me."I thought he told you that earlier.""I forgot. Remind me.""I thought princesses were meant to be smart. I'm his assistant.""Jax has never had a female assistant," she flipped her hair. "And I'm more intelligent than your lower-class ass would ever be.""Didn't know you were a stalker. Also, there's always time for firsts.""Our fathers were friends. I've known him since he was struggling to memorize the pack rules. You did something to get the job."Is there an award for that? I thought to myself."The point is," she continued. JAX:When it comes to her, I don't think. I just do whatever comes to mind. I become irrational in ways that leave me in awe. I didn't plan to kiss her in my office. A part of me itched to, probably because our bond was still there, and I had always managed to keep my fickle desires at bay until then.I was partially grateful for her stomping on my foot so harshly; I would've gone all the way with her. The aftermath of that was something I wasn't ready to deal with. The only issue was how to get her out of my life and mine as soon as possible before she completely infiltrates my existence and I have no control over my actions.I usually don't like to use torture; hell, it wasn't like she was my enemy, the moon goddess was. She paired me with such a stubborn woman after all. I thought I had succeeded in making it clear to her, yet she seemed far from understanding. For the first time in a while, I thought about what to do with Scarlett De Luca, and it was clear that I had to make it ha

JAX:"Hide," Scarlett spoke in a hushed tone."Why should I?" I refused. "We're not doing anything wrong.""Can you just try to understand? It's bad enough that Rosie's accusing me of sleeping with you to get this job," she groaned."Don't mind anything that she says. She doesn't make sense most of the time.""Trying to get you to reason with me is useless," she hissed."Miss?" The maid knocked again."A minute, please," she raised her voice. "Sit," she instructed me, leaving me shocked. If commanding me was a surprise, then she might've succeeded. She got a file out and gave it to me."We shouldn't have taken too much time to open the door, but I suppose this would do since you're so eager to put me in jeopardy," she muttered."Do you have to care so much about what other people think?"She didn't reply to me. Instead, she proceeded to open the door. She must be upset. Truthfully, we were doing nothing incriminating; moreover, whatever we did was none of their business. If I wanted,

That would be more convenient," I replied."Alright," he smiled."My personal assistant and I would like to excuse ourselves," I announced."She's not done eating," Aaron spoke for her."I see," I narrowed my eyes, went to her side of the table, grabbed her plate of spaghetti and meatballs, and gestured for her to get up. "I'll sort that out with her. Isn't that right, Scarlett? We have a schedule to plan.""Yes, Alpha Jax," she stood up. "Thank you for the meal, your majesties." She bowed, following behind me."Next time, you don't have to bow to them. You're my person, you came with me-""As an assistant," she interrupted me."As my assistant," I corrected her. "And as your employer, I believe I have the right to make clarifications regarding the things you do wrong, but of course, you can treat yourself so little if you wish to.""Why do you care? JAX:"Do I get to see Scarlett?" Aaron asked me after we concluded our meeting."No, you do not," I scowled. He insisted on coming to our pack for the meeting, no matter how much I told him I'd come over instead. His pack had one of the most secure borders, and I needed his insights alone. I should have asked him through letters, although he might not have divulged in that regard.I'm not particularly upset about it. I don't have to deal with Rosie, and that's fair to me. But I didn't want him to show up because of this."I'll just ask Zharn Meyers or Harrison. I'm sure they'll be happy to help," he said smugly. If it weren't for how useful our alliance has come to be, I'd have had him sent back without thinking twice. My phone vibrated in my pocket. "Excuse me."I was shocked to see Sophie De Luca calling me. She never has. Something did not feel right."Hello," she frantically said as soon as I picked up the call. "Is Scarlett with you?""No, she isn't," my muscles tensed. "What is

SOPHIE DE LUCAThe dress felt like a second skin, smooth and weightless, the black satin fabric cascading over my frame like liquid midnight. I stood before the mirror, adjusting the delicate jeweled straps on my shoulders, watching how the deep V neckline subtly accentuated my collarbones. The bodice hugged my waist just right, flowing into a floor-length skirt that billowed slightly with each breath. But the best part? The thigh-high slit—a little daring, a little dangerous. It gave just enough of a glimpse when I walked, adding a bold edge to the elegance. My blonde hair fell in loose waves down my back, catching the light as I turned my head. Diamond drop earrings shimmered just below my jawline, and a thin silver bracelet adorned my wrist—simple, refined, perfect.A pair of sleek black stilettos completed the look, adding just enough height to make sure I met my date’s gaze without having to crane my neck. Not that it mattered—he was still taller."You look amazing," my twin comp

SOPHIE:I thought everything was going great. We've had the best time in a long time. A farmhouse, friends our age, good dates with Zharn. Not until Cage told me that Scarlett had another nightmare. It gave me the feeling that her situation was more than what she let on. A part of her was tied to that memory.I paced around as Papa settled more bills regarding his small pastry shop building. He wanted to give it a countryside look, hence what he wanted it to be made of nice wood."Sophie, come help me," Mom asked for my assistance with milking Sally and Molly. Side effects of the farm life. She pointed to the shed. "Can you go feed Brownie?""Mom, you know she only likes you.""And Cage," she added."Exactly, which is why you should feed. I'll milk Sally."We continued the argument until she agreed to get it done herself, and that, kids, is how you dodge chores or swap whichever. My phone vibrated in my pocket, and as soon as I saw the caller ID, I thought the cows needed a break."He

SCARLETT :As Cage promised, he was there in three hours. I confided in Sophie about Lucinda and lied to my parents about filing in some information at the culinary school."Thank you for coming to pick me up. I shouldn't have yelled at you." I did my best to face my actions."I deserved to be yelled at," he replied, facing the road. No, Cage. You do not deserve it one bit.I closed my eyes and let the breeze from the weather carry me away. And I'm back in front of the tall building that hosts Lucinda's office."Scarlett!" Miss Kim ran to embrace me.She's still cheerful. She's so lucky. Last time I saw her, we were talking about a Channing Hayton movie."Miss Kim." I embraced her. Cage waited for me in his car like he always does."I'm so happy to see you. Well, I shouldn't be because you shouldn't be coming here again..." She went on and on. "Let me inform Dr. Lucinda of your arrival."She left me alone in the waiting room, and suddenly I missed her. I didn't want to be left alone.

I finally scream, feeling all muddy and sweaty, flailing in desperation. "Are you okay? It's two in the morning.""I need Dr. Lucinda's number. Now!" My teeth chatter."Scarlett, are you okay?""Cage, give me her number!" I'm agitated, frustrated, and still cannot breathe properly."Fuck, okay." Cage cusses, he rarely does. And in no time, he sends it.I dial her number immediately.Sixth ring."Who's thi

SCARLETT :Harrison Cage, you are a witch! The chickens stayed calm as he fed them, but he witnessed as they tried to come for me, so I guess he understands the reason why I was that scared."They don't like you very much," he pointed out."Gee. Thanks," I said flatly."Aw, c'mon Scarlett De Luca, are you mad at your good friend?" He feigned sadness."Yes, I am. Said good friend just laughed at my misery.""And said good friend is now apologizing," he bowed with his hand to his head."Jeez, Cage! I held him by his shoulders, lifting his upper body. "Never do that again," I said, dead serious."I won't.""Good.""There's one last thing I need you to do," I said, my eyes glinting with mischief.I gave Cage a bucket of water for Brownie and stood outside her little stable. He came back with his face moist, absolutely disgusted. He smelled like a horse. "She licked my face," he grimaced."Aw, Brownie likes you a lot. That's nice," I wiggled my brows at him."Don't," he warned him.It was

SCARLETT :The past days and weeks have been utter bliss. Life has never been so fulfilling. It almost feels too good to be true. I'm thrilled. I'm scared.Pushing the negatives aside, I remember Lucinda's words. My therapist.Cage said she was hospitalized, but she's recovered just fine and hasn't quit the profession. I was glad. Lucinda was a darling. I hope she never quits."Sophie," my father's voice reaches the room from downstairs.Right. We were supposed to hand out free pastries to the neighborhood as goodwill. Papa's pastry shop was coming into good view, and boy, was I excited for it. Sophie must be up already. I texted Jax into the night. I feel like an actual teenager now. Late-night calls and texting. I loved those activities quite a lot. It's an understatement to say I am not quite fond of them.I got off my bed, looked into my mirror, at my tattoo. My parents don't understand it yet. I have to tell them at some point.I brushed my teeth, had a shower, changed into a gra

SCARLETT :We grabbed some food first and played some outdoor games before heading to the arcade. The neon lights of the arcade cast a colorful glow as Sophie squealed, jumping up and down."It looks just like in the images," I said, delighted that it met our expectations."Right?" Sophie beamed."What games shall we play first?" Zharn asked."I vote air hockey, unless you guys are scared wimps," my twin pointed to Jax and me."What about your boyfriend?" I arched my brows."Nah, Zharn has never and will never be a scared wimp.""Thank you, baby," he leaned down and pecked her cheek."Well, my girlfriend and I aren't scared wimps. Air hockey is too easy."I blushed at Jax's retort. We weren't dating yet.We decided to play as teams: Team Jax and Scarlett and Team Zharie. I can't with their name combination."We won! SCARLETT :The day was upon us. The day we had all been waiting for.Our double date!I stared at the neatly wrapped box on my bed, my band inscribed on a smooth, precise script. A single deep red rose rested on top, its petals velvety and rich in color. Sophie’s box sat beside hers, wrapped in soft blue ribbon, a pale pink rose accompanying it."Do you think they actually picked these out themselves?" Sophie asked, holding the delicate flower between her fingers, her blonde curls bouncing as she turned to me.I smirked, running my fingers over the sleek black leather jacket inside the box. "I don't know, but it looks so good. They probably had Sir Hensley help them. I've always wanted a new leather jacket. It's designer. I hope it didn't cost a fortune. I have to treat Jax to corn dogs and burgers at the amusement park."Sophie gasped, dramatically clutching her heart. "Blasphemy. Zharn has good taste. I believe he picked these out himself." She pulled out a silky baby blue off-shoul
