Chapter 33

Emma's Pov

The afternoon sun shone down on the park, casting a warm golden glow over the children playing around me.

Their laughter was infectious, making me forget, at least for a little while, the tension that always seemed to hang in the air.

I sat on the grass, legs crossed, watching as a group of them ran circles around me, their energy boundless.

"Emma, where are you from?" A little girl, her pigtails bouncing as she ran, plopped herself down beside me.

Her name was Kara, and she was one of the more inquisitive ones in the group. I smiled at her, amused by her curiosity.

"I'm from far away," I said, my voice light, not wanting to get into details. It felt good just to be Emma for now, not Luna, not the stranger everyone whispered about.

Just Emma, sitting with kids who didn't care about the complicated politics of the pack.

"How far?" Another boy chimed in, his big brown eyes wide with wonder. I recognized him as Alex, one of the newer members of the pack.

"Very far," I repl
