Chapter 30

Emma’s POV

As Daniel and I strolled back toward the pack house, I couldn't help but feel relieved.

Daniel had this natural ability to lift the mood with his light-hearted banter.

He had been cracking jokes, pointing out random things along the way, and generally making me laugh in ways I hadn't in a long time.

It was easy with him, like the weight I usually carried around vanished when I was with him.

The pack house came into view, and just as I was beginning to feel truly relaxed, I saw him—Gregory.

He was standing there like a storm cloud, arms crossed, a deep scowl etched into his face.

My heart sank instantly. What now? I hated how tense I got around him sometimes, like I had to constantly walk on eggshells.

"Look at him," Daniel muttered, his voice dropping low. He followed my gaze to Gregory, who was glaring at us from a distance.

"Here we go again. It’s that same old angry face. You’d think the man never smiled."

I glanced at Daniel, trying not to giggle.
