CLAUDIA

The sun rays entered my room through the window and were directly on my face.

“Ma’am Petra! The curtains!”

I cried out and covered my head with my bedspread. I heard my room door open, I knew it was Ma’am Petra.

She walked to the window and I heard her pull the curtains.

“Good morning Claudia.” She greeted and I yanked the bedspread off my head still closing my eyes.

I opened my eyes and heaved out a sigh. I couldn’t sleep, what Mom and Dad told me kept tormenting me.

“Oh, God… Claudia your eyes are swollen. Did you sleep at all?” Ma’am Petra became worried.

She sat next to me on the bed and I looked at her.

“The night was horrible,”

I sat up and she passed the pillow to me. I placed the pillow behind me so I could rest my back on it.

“Why was the night horrible my child? You had a nightmare?” She was so worried. It was written all over her.

“I would prefer a nightmare to what happened last night,” I became sad again. I bent my head and began to fondle my fingers.

“Stop putting me in suspense and tell me what happened. Were you grounded for coming home late?”

I exhaled loudly and opened my mouth to speak;

“Mom and Dad said I should stop seeing Thorsten last night,”

I looked at her and I saw the sad look on her face.

“I’m sorry about that Claudia, but they must have their reasons don’t you think?”

She reached for my hands and held them softly.

“It’s a stupid reason to me,” I rolled my eyes.

“They are adults, they know what is best for you even though it doesn’t seem right to you.”

I withdrew my hand from hers and got out of bed in anger.

“They came up with this story of the moon goddess choosing a soulmate for me, and that I can’t be with someone else. Ma’am Petra, they don’t even know who she chose. They said I would be the one to bring him to them. Isn’t that a stupid reason to make me let go of someone that truly loves me?”

I paced in front of her and her eyes never left my body as I walked.

“Claudia dear, you need to calm down okay? If the moon goddess chose a mate for you, you need to be with him and him alone.”

She warned and I scoffed.

“Don’t tell me you are on their side too.”

I stared at her unbelievably. I thought she was my friend, I thought she understood me more than anyone in the world.

She stood up and moved towards me. She stood in front of me and reached for my hands but I kept them away from her.

“Don’t do that,”

She heaved a sigh and nodded.

“What I am trying to say is, for the moon goddess to have chosen a mate for you, you should be glad. Maybe Thorsten isn’t the one for you. Maybe he doesn’t truly love you, or would stop loving you at the end when you two are married.”

I shook my head showing my disagreement with what she said.

“That is never going to happen! Let us forget Thorsten for a minute. What if this “predestined man”…” I raised my hand making the apostrophe sign.

“…doesn’t even like me? What if he is an Imbecile? What if he is from a poor home?” I asked beating my palm with my finger and counting the questions as I asked.

“All these are your assumptions, the moon goddess will never make a mistake. She knows exactly what she is doing.”

I scoffed and walked to my window, I turned to look at her again.

“You all talk as thou you have seen her before. No one has ever seen her, only one person hears her and that is Holgar, the monk. What if Holgar is lying? He is just like us too!” I smacked.

I yearned for her to see things the way I did. It was so painful to see how blinded they were by these things.

She opened her mouth to speak but was cut short when the door opened. We both looked at the door and we saw it was Mom.

I was breathing hard and I tried to catch my breath.

“What is going on here?”

She walked into the room and Ma’am Petra bowed her head.

“Nothing. Ma’am Petra and I were just having a chat.”

I turned my back against her in a cold manner and looked out of my window.

“Leave us.” I heard Mom say and I decided not to look back at her. I needed to make Mom and Dad know I was pissed, and I would never support them on this one.

“Good morning Claudia.”

She walked up to me and stood next to me also looking out of the window.

“Good morning Mom,” I replied coldly. I still didn’t look at her.

“I know you are mad at me, but I know you can’t be mad at me forever.

I lowered my head knowing she spoke nothing but the truth.

“Maybe not forever, but for now,” I responded.

She giggled and I was forced to smile. I looked at her, and my smile faded.

“I can’t stop seeing Thorsten,”

She shook her head with an affectionate smile on her face.

“I’m not here to talk about that, let’s keep that aside for now okay?”

I nodded and watched her sit on the bed, I moved to the bed and sat on it too.

“I want to tell you about the moonball party.”

I furrowed my brows at the mention of “moonball party.” It sounded familiar but I couldn’t remember where I had heard or seen it.

She noticed I was confused and she helped out by explaining further.

“It is about an event where all the werewolves’ clans in the Kingdom come together to celebrate.”

My eyes widened as I instantly recalled where I had seen that definition.

“Yes! I know about it. It’s been a decade since the event took place. I read it in one of the journals Dad gifted me on my sixteenth birthday.”

I was filled with happiness because I was able to recall.

“Great. I should just get straight to the point then…”

She was beginning to act suspicious and I wasn’t liking it.

“What is it this time?”

I tried not to get frustrated.

“Don’t look at me like that Claudia. I am just trying to say, you can meet new people, you can make new friends. Since you were little, you have never mingled with people. You preferred being with Thorsten alone, all the time.” She retorted and I butted in.

“Because he understands me better than anyone.”

She shook her head and smiled.

“You have never tried with other people too. I’m not asking too much from you, I just want you to mingle when you get there. Don’t stay with Thorsten alone, let him meet other people too.”

I consented by nodding my head.

“Okay.”

“And luckily for us, you could even meet him there.”

I scoffed at her statement, I saw where she was coming from and knew where she was headed.

“Mom I am not going to this party if this is what you want me to do there.”

I stood up in anger and walked away from the bed.

“No Claudia, I was just suggesting. I’m not forcing you to do it okay? You should come with us. It is always fun.”

I nodded paying less attention to her, I began to get rid of my nightwear.

I had worn it after my parents left the room. It was a red silky smooth gown.

“I want to have my bath now. I am stepping out.”

“Where are you going?”

Mom asked with a smile on her face. I kept quiet and kept removing my clothes.

She got the answer to her question already and she heaved a sigh.

“Don’t stay out late.”

I gave her a nod and walked to the bathroom.

She walked out of the room and not quite long after she was out, Ma’am Petra entered the room.

“I want to have my bath,”

I opened the bathroom door and she followed me in.

CLAUDIA The dry leaves from the trees dropped on me as I strolled into the garden. Thorsten and I had always loved sitting in the garden and chatting. On the garden bench, we always sat, there were plenty of dried leaves on it. The leaves had dropped more than usual. I got to the bench and swept the leaves off with my hand. I was preparing the bench for Thorsten’s arrival. If he was the one that came first, he would have done the same thing for me. After getting the leaves off the bench, I sat and placed my right leg on my left leg. I adjusted my high-waist gown so it couldn’t cover all of my legs. A beautiful flower tree was next to me, it was a pink cherry blossom tree. A faint smile crept across my face and I plucked a flower from the tree. I moved it to my nose and sniffed it shutting my eyes. “I got you a better one.” I heard the voice that always brought joy to my soul. I chuckled and bent my head to look at him. Thorsten had the most beautiful grin on his face, it made m

AFTER A MONTH CLAUDIA Ma’am Petra woke me up very early in the morning, she informed me it was time to prepare for the moonball party. I got out of bed sluggishly and dragged my feet on the Axminster carpet that completely overlaid my bedroom floor. I always enjoyed its soft feel under my feet, so most times I walk barefoot. I sat in front of my gigantic mirror, I stared at myself. My radiant hazel eyes were looking tired and my beautifully smooth and aligned hair had turned shaggy. I was too broken to pay attention to it. It’s been a month since I stopped seeing Thorsten but it seemed like yesterday. I still couldn’t believe it. I would tuck myself in bed for days. Dad, mom, and Ma’am Petra tried cheering me up but it didn’t work. My birthday came and I couldn’t celebrate, I refused to open the luxurious gifts my parents and a few people from the clan had gotten me. I was broken. Ma’am Petra walked up to me and stood behind me. She looked at me through the mirror with sympat

CLAUDIA The carriage rode into the black wrought iron fence of the Jamba Royal palace. The building was a terrace, and the building is finished in a simple black and white color palette on the facade. It was my first time at the Jamba palace, and I was loving everything about it. The exterior lighting was provided by street lamps and a pair of iron lanterns mounted on each side of the front door. I could see the name “JAMBA PALACE” written boldly with paint on the top of the building. It was well above eye level. The garden that surrounded the pathway the carriage rode caught my attention, there were flower beds, potted plants, shrubs in neoclassical urns, statues, and many more I couldn’t recognize. “Claudia, it’s time to get off.” I looked at Mom with a huge smile on my face, she was out of the carriage while I was feeding my eyes with the palace’s beauty. “I was examining the environment.” I climbed down the carriage with the help of the coachman, he held me by my right han

CLAUDIA I kept running down the passage of the palace like I was being chased. I wanted to run until I was in another world. *This isn’t happening to me! No, he can’t be the one. He looks so old.* I lowered my head at some point as tears rolled down my face, and suddenly I bumped into someone. I fell to the floor and I looked at the leg of the person I bumped into standing in front of me. “I’m sorry.” I lifted my head and I saw it was him. The prophecy man. *Why is he here again? How did he get here? I left him in the room! * “Come with me.” His modulated voice approached me and I shook my head. “To where? I am not coming with you.” I was adamant that I wasn’t going anywhere with him. “It isn’t a request, it is an order.” I screwed up my face at his statement. His autocratic attitude got me irritated. *Who does he think he is, that is can just order me around like some god?* “You are in no position to give me orders! I am going nowhere with you!” I got up on my feet and

EVERETT The fear in her was extraordinary, I could feel and hear the racing of her heart, it was like she had seen a ghost. “Come with me.” I moved aside and she scuttled past me and walked in front of me. I picked up my shredded clothes and followed behind her. As I walked behind her, I began to assess her body. She was slender and average in height. Her light golden brown hair looked so shiny and silky under the lights. She must have paid great attention to her hair. I could perceive the fragrance her hair emitted as I walked behind her. We kept walking down the tiny footpath in the garden, and when as got to the darkest part of the palace, I stopped her. “This place should do.” She came to a halt and refused to look back at me. “Look at me.” She teetered as she turned to see me very close to her. I was just an inch away from her. Her breath ceased and I took my time to assess her face. Her blue almond-shaped eyes pierced through mine, they were indeed beautiful. Her lashes

CLAUDIA “Father wants to become king? Since when have you two been planning this?” I was shocked, I was never been carried along with anything going on in our pack, talk-less of the clan. But this, I should have known before the time of his speech. “For some time now Claudia. We wanted to surprise you.” “Surprise me? Or you kept it from me because you feel I am not mature enough?” “Claudia please, not this time. Your father needs us now, we can continue this talk at home.” I heaved a sigh and looked at Mr. Prophecy. He announced his name to be Everett Durchdenwald, but I’d prefer calling him Mr. Prophecy. He had a cold look on his face and I wondered why. I looked at what he was staring coldly at and I saw it was Father. *My father and my fated mates are rivals in becoming king. Why does the moon goddess hate me so much? This makes absolutely no sense! They would turn their backs against each other!* The people applauded Father as soon as he got to where the Monk stood. EVERETT“You have been speechless for minutes now. Are you okay?” I sat next to Annette in the dressing room where I first met Claudia. My head was lowered in thoughts, I was trying to evaluate and plan how I would win the throne over Alpha Horst. “Talk to me Everett, I am worried.” Annette placed her hands on my shoulders and I sighed getting her hands off me. “I have so many things I’m thinking about Annette and you are distracting me! Please leave!” She flinched, and her mouth fell open after seeing my mood. She stood up and stared at me. I kept mute and lowered my head again. “Is this because of that small girl? You yelled at me Everett, because of her?” “Alpha Everett.”She went blank after hearing me speak. I looked at her coldly and she scoffed. “Alpha? Do I have to put the title now? I shrank my eyes and opened them slowly. I saw her face very closer to mine and I furrowed my brows. “Wake up, you need to see something.” I further arched my brows and sat up, I still kept my gaze fixed on her. “Why are you whispering?” My question was in a whisper because I wasn’t sure I could speak normally, not until she stopped whispering. “There is a man, he looks like he is in his early thirties, he is in the living room as I speak and he has a meeting with your parents as we speak. I overheard part of their conversation, I think you are getting married soon.”Everything inside of me stopped working, my heart felt so heavy for my body immediately, and tears heated my eyes like I was in severe pain. “It wasn’t a dream, I thought it was a dream!” I hurried out of the bed and began

My right hand reached for my quiver, and I pulled out one arrow. I positioned it in the bow and pointed it at the targets. I closed my left eye so that I could get the appropriate angle and degree to release my arrow. After being satisfied with my positioning, I dragged the bowstring and arrow real quick and let go of the arrow. The arrow travelled from where I stood to the archery target, and I nervously watched it move. The King, my father, was at the other end, and as soon as the arrow pierced the target, he ran to it to check. “Yes! You did it!” He yelled, and I jumped up and punched the air in excitement. “I told you I’d be able to do it!” I yelled back boastfully. *Since I turned ten, I grew a great passion for shooting arrows. After witnessing Annette’s death, I wished I was never pushed to request her death. ‘What will my don think of me now?’ “Claudia, can you please tell me what is going on in your mind?” Everett asked, and I adjusted my eyes to look at him. “What will our son think of me now, Everett? I’m a murderer.” He shook his head and reached for my hand. He lifted my hand to his lips and planted a soft kiss on it. “You are no murderer, okay? I was the one that killed her, not you. She deserved to die, okay? Don’t feel so bad. You are a good person, Claudia, but sometimes, the good people are always pushed to the wall.” “About our son…” “Our son will be fine, Claudia. CLAUDIAI got to the front of the palace and threw Annette forward, making her fall to the ground. I could feel how fragile she had become because of the torture she went through in the dungeon, but she wasn’t ready to change, and I was done giving her chances to be a better person. “You are still alive till now, thanks to me!” I poked my chest and moved closer to her slowly. “It was so easy to tell Everett to get rid of you when you were in that dungeon, but I felt it would be so wicked of me, and I didn’t want anyone’s blood on my hands. But now, I don’t care if your filthy blood stains my hand.” “You think you can do whatever pleases you now, hun? You can order others around, but I’ll never let you order me around! I rather die than accept you as my queen!” She yelled back, and I scoffed. I wasn’t surprised she could still talk back at me like that. ANNETTE I stood in front of my full mirror and stared at myself. I looked so ugly and sick, and I hated everyone for that. No one cared when I was in that dungeon, and this made me see no reason why I should care for anyone too. If someone told me Everett would change drastically to the extent of throwing me into the dungeon, I’d argue with that person. This time, it was worse. He locked me in there for about nine months, and he didn’t bother to check up on me for once. He was busy with his wife. I rolled my eyes and tears dropped from them. I lowered my head and began to play with my finger. “Annette, you are not a woman they accept defeats. You can’t let this pass as if nothing happened. You are more powerful than that, baby girl.” I said to myself and looked in the mirror again. “Annette.” I heard Volker’s voice in front of my door. I looked at the door and saw him open it. She had her hand in the cradle, and she was smiling widely. “Nellie,” I called calmly, and she raised her head and looked at me. “My Queen, you are up.” Sue stood up and walked up to me. “Yes, I am,” I responded with a bright face. “I’m happy you look better, my queen. How are you feeling? Do you have aches?” She asked, and I shook my head. “I’m not feeling anyone. Am I supposed to feel any pain?” I asked, and she chuckled. “I have no idea.
