CLAUDIA

The carriage rode into the black wrought iron fence of the Jamba Royal palace. The building was a terrace, and the building is finished in a simple black and white color palette on the facade.

It was my first time at the Jamba palace, and I was loving everything about it.

The exterior lighting was provided by street lamps and a pair of iron lanterns mounted on each side of the front door. I could see the name “JAMBA PALACE” written boldly with paint on the top of the building. It was well above eye level.

The garden that surrounded the pathway the carriage rode caught my attention, there were flower beds, potted plants, shrubs in neoclassical urns, statues, and many more I couldn’t recognize.

“Claudia, it’s time to get off.”

I looked at Mom with a huge smile on my face, she was out of the carriage while I was feeding my eyes with the palace’s beauty.

“I was examining the environment.”

I climbed down the carriage with the help of the coachman, he held me by my right hand and I lifted my dress with my left hand.

Mom looked at me with a broad smile.

“You like it?”

I nodded as we both walked up the stairs that led to the large front door. Two servants stood at the door, one at the left and the other at the right.

As we drew closer, they held onto the brass door handle and opened the door for us to walk in. There were lots of people already, the musicians were playing, and some couples and choreographers occupied a large amount of space in the ballroom.

My mouth fell open once more as the interior decorations were mouth-watering.

The floor was made of polished wooden floorboards and the chalk art on the floorboards was already marred by the dancers that had arrived earlier.

The ceiling was very high and a huge chandelier was hung on it which provided beautiful lightning to the ballroom. The Chandelier was a beautiful piece of extravagant cornucopia and irregular scrollwork made up of bronze.

There were large curtains on the giant windows which were separated into halves by curtain knobs. There were Candelabra in front of each window and they had lighted candles in them.

I would never leave out the gigantic mirrors built on the wall which reflected the lights from the candles and Chandelier.

It was a great sight to behold.

I was still checking out the designs of the ballroom when I heard someone speak behind me,

“Hi, May I have this dance?”

It was a young-looking man in a white linen shirt and a black coat, which was cut away in front and had a long tail behind, and tall standing collars.

He had black hair with a short hairstyle, his mustache had an upper loop just like a bicycle handle.

He was about three feet away from me.

He extended his left hand to me, his palm was up above his waist level and he had a smile on his face.

His approach was quite welcoming, according to what Ma’am Petra has always taught me.

“Yes.”

I handed my right hand to him and while holding me, he pulled me slightly towards him and placed his right hand on the middle of my back.

We got to the dance floor, and he started by giving me a little one-handed spin, he pulled me into a closed position afterward.

I placed my left hand on his upper arm, and my feet were to his left side. I looked above his shoulders and watched other dancers as we began to sway gently.

“What is your name?”

I turned my head slightly to look at him, he had a broad smile on.

“Claudia.”

I let out a broad smile too. He seemed like a very gentleman.

“I am Joachim… Is this your first time here?”

I gave him a nod and kept my eyes above his shoulders.

As we danced according to the beat of the music, we made a slow 360-degree turning so we could see the whole ballroom as we danced.

As we turned, I saw Thorsten.

The booming was fierce and chronic, it was my heart that seemed to swell into a mallet and swung against my rib cage. It felt like my heart was going to burst at any moment.

I watched him dance with another lady. They didn’t just dance, they also whispered things to themselves and laughed after every whisper.

I lost concentration and I began to watch them closely.

“Are you alright?”

Joachim noticed I was far absent from the dance. I smiled faintly and let go of him.

“Excuse me please.”

I lifted my dress and ran off the dance floor, I kept running not knowing exactly where I was headed. All I knew was that I wanted to stop seeing Thorsten.

“Claudia!”

I heard my mother call but I didn’t look back. I ran out of the ballroom and into the passageway. I saw a door which I knew not where it led.

I opened the door, and luckily for me, it wasn’t locked.

I looked around the room and I noticed I had entered the women’s dressing room. The room was empty, and I was the only one in it.

The wall was decorated with light-colored paper, window curtains, and furniture covers. There was also a huge drawing hung on the wall.

I closed the door and rested my back on it, I was panting hard. I placed my hand on my chest trying to stay calm. I got uncomfortable in my corset and I began to untie it.

I walked away from the door and headed to the standing mirror that was at the edge of the room. It was in front of a large wardrobe.

I stood in front of it and looked at myself. My eyes were red, and tears threatened to fall out of them.

I removed my corset and threw it on the chair next to me. Tears rolled down my eyes as I thought of Thorsten again.

How did he move on so fast?

Still deep in my thoughts, I heard the door of the room flung. I was startled and I quickly picked up my corset.

I placed it against my chest and hid behind the wardrobe.

I began to hear strange sounds, I wasn’t sure what was making those sounds.

I peeped through the space in between the wardrobe and the wall, and I saw two people. A man and a woman.

I could see the face of the woman, but then I couldn't see the man's face because his back was turned to me.

He lifted the young woman and she wrapped her legs around his Torso. He pinned her against the wall and pulled out her dress.

I gasped and shut my eyes immediately. I think I could guess what was going on.

Thorsten and I had always discussed mating.

I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I shouldn’t be there at that awkward moment.

I should leave before they get into it.

No! I shouldn’t… I would ruin their moment. I should wait here. I stood upright and heaved a sigh.

I could hear the woman making different kinds of sounds. It wasn’t a sound of pain, it sounded like she enjoyed it.

I leaned against the wall and shut my eyes tight. I moved my corset away from my chest weakly.

The night wasn’t going the way I wanted it.

All of a sudden, I felt something strange. I wrinkled my face trying to discern the feeling.

“Who are you?”

I heard the voice of a man in a very close range. My eyes sprung open, I quickly covered my chest with my corset.

It was the man mating with the lady!

I felt electric shocks all over me as we stared into each other’s eyes.

He had brown skin, a narrow face with less fat, he had blue eyes and full and symmetrical lips. He was pretty tall, a little above 6 feet if I was correct, and had broad shoulders.

He had steampunk hair and was with no mustache. He was different from the other men. He wasn’t from the Jamba Kingdom.

What is going on?

The woman he was with rolled my eyes at me. I couldn't be more uncomfortable.

“I’m sorry… I…was leaving.”

I bowed my head and wanted to walk away when he held my arm. My heart raced immediately as his hands touched me. I felt electric shocks all over my body.

“It is you.”

I arched my brows trying to understand what he meant, and after a few seconds, I did.

It was him! The prophecy! My eyes widened and I yanked my arm away from his hand.

I ran out of the room with my heart thumping against my chest.

My mate was mating with another woman in front of me!!

I picked up my shredded clothes and followed behind her. As I walked behind her, I began to assess her body. She was slender and average in height. Her light golden brown hair looked so shiny and silky under the lights. She must have paid great attention to her hair. I could perceive the fragrance her hair emitted as I walked behind her. We kept walking down the tiny footpath in the garden, and when as got to the darkest part of the palace, I stopped her. “This place should do.” She came to a halt and refused to look back at me. “Look at me.” She teetered as she turned to see me very close to her. I was just an inch away from her. Her breath ceased and I took my time to assess her face. Her blue almond-shaped eyes pierced through mine, they were indeed beautiful. Her lashes

Or you kept it from me because you feel I am not mature enough?” “Claudia please, not this time. Your father needs us now, we can continue this talk at home.” I heaved a sigh and looked at Mr. Prophecy. He announced his name to be Everett Durchdenwald, but I’d prefer calling him Mr. Prophecy. My head was lowered in thoughts, I was trying to evaluate and plan how I would win the throne over Alpha Horst. “Talk to me Everett, I am worried.” Annette placed her hands on my shoulders and I sighed getting her hands off me. “I have so many things I’m thinking about Annette and you are distracting me! Please leave!” She flinched, and her mouth fell open after seeing my mood. She stood up and stared at me. I kept mute and lowered my head again. “Is this because of that small girl? You yelled at me Everett, because of her?” “Alpha Everett.”She went blank after hearing me speak. I looked at her coldly and she scoffed. “Alpha? Do I have to put the title now? I shrank my eyes and opened them slowly. I saw her face very closer to mine and I furrowed my brows. “Wake up, you need to see something.” I further arched my brows and sat up, I still kept my gaze fixed on her. “Why are you whispering?” My question was in a whisper because I wasn’t sure I could speak normally, not until she stopped whispering. “There is a man, he looks like he is in his early thirties, he is in the living room as I speak and he has a meeting with your parents as we speak. I overheard part of their conversation, I think you are getting married soon.”Everything inside of me stopped working, my heart felt so heavy for my body immediately, and tears heated my eyes like I was in severe pain. “It wasn’t a dream, I thought it was a dream!” I hurried out of the bed and began

CLAUDIA After father left the living room, I ran out of the packhouse and headed to Thorsten’s packhouse. “Claudia!” Mom, Ma’am Petra and two other women from our pack called but I turned deaf ears to all of them. As I ran down the dusty road, my legs turned dirty as I kept beating the dust with my bare feet. I forgot to wear my shoes, and I didn’t care. Not after father just gave us his blessings. I wore my silk nightgown which extended down to my ankle, I raised it as I ran. The people that saw me as I ran stared at me as if I was crazy. Well, I wasn’t sure if I was sane anymore, my eyes were so heavy that I couldn’t barely see the road. I sighted Thorsten’s pack house from afar and I increased my pace. I couldn't wait to fall into his arms and cry. I needed someone to tell how badly hurt I was and he was the only one I could think of, he had always been the only one. CLAUDIA It was two hours before my wedding ceremony. It was 6pm, and the wedding ceremony was to start 8pm. Ma’am Petra had told me that the wedding ceremonies in Jamba Kingdom always took place at night because that was the period the moon goddess had chosen. The packhouse was busier than usual, it was more than the Moonball party’s evening. Ma’am Petra finished bathing for me, and she already treated my hair. She let my hair loose and it fell on my shoulders, she told me that was how it was supposed to be for the wedding. She applied the bright red carmine blush on my cheeks, and some other beauty patches on my face. I was wearing my under-bust corset and a linen skirt, I stood in front of my mirror. Mother walked into the room with two other maids of hers, they carried two dresses in their hands. “Claudia child, which one would you love to wear?” “I would love to wear nothing.”I kept my eyes on the mirror, I kept staring at my puffy eyes. My right hand reached for my quiver, and I pulled out one arrow. I positioned it in the bow and pointed it at the targets. I closed my left eye so that I could get the appropriate angle and degree to release my arrow. After being satisfied with my positioning, I dragged the bowstring and arrow real quick and let go of the arrow. The arrow travelled from where I stood to the archery target, and I nervously watched it move. The King, my father, was at the other end, and as soon as the arrow pierced the target, he ran to it to check. “Yes! You did it!” He yelled, and I jumped up and punched the air in excitement. “I told you I’d be able to do it!” I yelled back boastfully. *Since I turned ten, I grew a great passion for shooting arrows. After witnessing Annette’s death, I wished I was never pushed to request her death. ‘What will my don think of me now?’ “Claudia, can you please tell me what is going on in your mind?” Everett asked, and I adjusted my eyes to look at him. “What will our son think of me now, Everett? I’m a murderer.” He shook his head and reached for my hand. He lifted my hand to his lips and planted a soft kiss on it. “You are no murderer, okay? I was the one that killed her, not you. She deserved to die, okay? Don’t feel so bad. You are a good person, Claudia, but sometimes, the good people are always pushed to the wall.” “About our son…” “Our son will be fine, Claudia. I could feel how fragile she had become because of the torture she went through in the dungeon, but she wasn’t ready to change, and I was done giving her chances to be a better person. “You are still alive till now, thanks to me!” I poked my chest and moved closer to her slowly. “It was so easy to tell Everett to get rid of you when you were in that dungeon, but I felt it would be so wicked of me, and I didn’t want anyone’s blood on my hands. But now, I don’t care if your filthy blood stains my hand.” “You think you can do whatever pleases you now, hun? You can order others around, but I’ll never let you order me around! I rather die than accept you as my queen!” She yelled back, and I scoffed. I wasn’t surprised she could still talk back at me like that. No one cared when I was in that dungeon, and this made me see no reason why I should care for anyone too. If someone told me Everett would change drastically to the extent of throwing me into the dungeon, I’d argue with that person. This time, it was worse. He locked me in there for about nine months, and he didn’t bother to check up on me for once. He was busy with his wife. I rolled my eyes and tears dropped from them. I lowered my head and began to play with my finger. “Annette, you are not a woman they accept defeats. You can’t let this pass as if nothing happened. You are more powerful than that, baby girl.” I said to myself and looked in the mirror again. “Annette.” I heard Volker’s voice in front of my door. I looked at the door and saw him open it. She had her hand in the cradle, and she was smiling widely. “Nellie,” I called calmly, and she raised her head and looked at me. “My Queen, you are up.” Sue stood up and walked up to me. “Yes, I am,” I responded with a bright face. “I’m happy you look better, my queen. She is a wife and a queen, I can’t ruin their marriage because of what I feel for her. I grabbed the jar of wine that was on the table and poured myself another cup.
