I started scanning everybody’s faces trying to gauge their reactions. It’s not like they didn’t know that this day was eventually coming. Hell, even I’m shocked that this day has finally arrived.
I continued scanning the warriors when my eyes landed on Alpha Lance and Luna Adrianna. Next to them was Beta Owen and his Mate Nadine and finally, as I continued looking down the line my eyes met those of my two best friends. Our future Alpha, Xander and our future Beta, Lena. Xander and Lena both smiled at me and Xander mouthed the words, “don’t choke” to me while miming with his hands like he was being choked out. What a mature way for our future Alpha to behave. It took everything in me to not give him my best eye roll of the day. Great, now the image of me choking is running through the back of my brain as I try and focus on not making a total and complete ass of myself in front of basically the entire pack. “Welcome everyone! As you know, today is a special day for me as both a father and as your Gamma. Today we begin the final stages of Signe taking over for me as Gamma. Starting today, Signe will lead all of our pack trainings and will be sitting in on meetings with our Alpha and Beta”, I could hear the pride in each word my dad was saying and that’s what gave me the confidence boost I needed to begin my speech. Deep breath. You got this Sig. We got this, Aerona told me, but I could hear the nerves in her voice too. “Good morning Alpha Lance, Luna Adrianna, Beta Owen, Xander, Lena and my fellow warriors,” I paused and took a deep breath. You’re the future Gamma of this pack, Sig. Now suck it up and lead these warriors just like Dad taught you to, I tried to give myself a little pep talk. “I can’t believe this day has finally come. I’ve been training with all of you for as long as I can remember and I can safely say that I am beyond proud of the fact that not only do I get to serve the Crescent Moon Pack alongside of you, but that you all have the faith and trust in me to lead you in protecting all of our loved ones. Now, where I obviously leave much to be desired in my public speaking skills,” I heard some snickers at that statement, “I know I have proven and will continue to prove to you that my abilities as a fighter and a leader are much more well-rounded.” Holy shit, I’m actually doing this. “I don’t plan on changing how we’ve been doing things. Why change something that’s working. That being said, thank you all for enduring the interruption of our regularly scheduled program,” more snickers, “Let’s head out to the training field and get started.” Well, I think it’s safe to say that I can definitely mark motivational speaker off of my list if I don’t cut it as the Gamma. My dad reached over and squeezed my shoulder, “Good talk, Sig. Short. Sweet. And to the point,” he said. I just smiled up at him and then next thing I know I’m lying flat on my back and hearing laughter coming from a voice that I know all too well. “Gotta expect the unexpected, Signe. I’m shocked Aerona didn’t sense me sneaking up to you,” Lena laughed while talking. Yeah, well, I was a little preoccupied, Aerona said to me, her voice laced with irritation. She didn’t like being caught off guard like that. Lena reached her hand out for me to grab. I grabbed ahold of it and as badly as I wanted to yank her down right next to me, I reminded myself that I’m almost officially the Gamma and that’s not how a Gamma would act. So instead, I used her hand as a brace to hoist myself back up to my feet. “Yeah, you got me pretty good there Lena. Next time you won’t be so lucky,” I teased. Even though Lena is our packs next Beta, she’s never been the strongest fighter or quickest on her feet when it comes to reading a fight to figure out how to get the upper hand. But that’s what best friends are for. They’re there to help out one another and I know that what she lacks in natural talent, Lena would more than make up for with hard work and dedication with our newly scheduled extra practice sessions. Next thing I knew I felt a hand on my shoulder, so I turned to see who it was. I was surprised to see the hand on my shoulder belonged to Alpha Lance who was standing there smiling at me. “Congrats Signe. You’ve worked hard for this and I know you’ll make Crescent Moon Pack proud. Now, I need to borrow you, Gamma Aaron, Beta Owen, Xander and Lena. I’m afraid Alpha Asher of the Blood Moon Pack is on his way and will be here within the hour,” I could hear the displeasure in Alpha Lance’s voice as he spoke. “Forgive me Alpha, but why would Alpha Asher be on his way here to Crescent Moon?” I inquired. “Why else? To discuss war,” Alpha Lance said and I could see the worry settle in behind his eyes.Alpha Asher POV The car ride was longer than I anticipated. Or maybe it’s just the fact that my wolf Thor hates car rides and gets extra annoying and claustrophobic when we have to ride in one for more than about thirty minutes. “No, I think you were right the first time. The ride is definitely longer than either of us expected it to be.” Thor replied not too convincingly. “Yeah, why don’t you just go back to sleep so that I can actually concentrate on the task at hand. I need to focus so that I can convince Alpha Lance to form this alliance with us so that we might stand a chance against Alpha Ian and the Midnight Pack. Alpha Ian has conquered too many packs in the last five years and has gained too much power in doing so. We’re the next pack in his sights and—“ “Brother, we’re here. How do you want to approach this?” My brother asked, pulling me out of my internal conversation with Thor. I glanced up at Alex. “Is there an option other than approaching this head on? W
Signe POV We stood around constantly checking the time. Occasionally, I’d peak out of the window in the meeting room to see if a car I didn’t recognize had pulled up. Alpha Lance was on edge. He was trying to hide it, but with all of my training I was able to pick up on a lot that most other wolves without my training would have missed. “How much longer until you think they arrive?” Xander asked for what I felt was the millionth time. Remind me to not go on a long trip with him for fear of hearing the phrase, “are we there yet?” Come out of his mouth just as many times. Although, I can’t say that I blame Xander or anyone for that matter about being nervous for his visit. Alpha Asher isn’t well known for his patience or his kindness. I’ve heard it’s react first and ask questions later in his case. He’s ruthless towards his enemies, which, ok, that one I definitely can get behind. I wanted to know how many of these rumors I had heard were just that. Rumor. Or if there w
Signe POV There he was. My mate. What the hell? How did this happen? I broke my gaze from his and looked to Alpha Lance who was just smiling at me. As I looked around the room I saw a mixture of expressions, from shock to anger, concern and even pleased. Such an array of emotions from others when I couldn’t even figure out what the hell was going on or how I felt about it. Mate? No…we must have that wrong. It’s a joke. Right? “It’s definitely not a joke, Signe.” Aerona said, and if we were in wolf form right now, I know she’d be drooling. I looked back at the man who I’d just met. Actually, I haven’t even met yet. He just simply barged into the room for goddess sake and here I was, swooning over him. I mean, he’s not bad to look at. Mate bond or pull aside, I mean, yeah, now I’m almost drooling. His green eyes, that I’d be more than happy to continue to be lost in for the next few hours are the first thing that I noticed. He has gorgeous dark brown hair that’s cut sho
Asher POVThe look on her face went from curiosity to utter devastation in two seconds flat. Rejection wasn’t easy on a wolf. They felt it down in the very depths of their soul. I felt bad that I had to reject her, but I couldn’t risk any of my enemies, especially Ian, using my mate against me to get what they wanted. “Are you crazy?! We can’t reject our Mate! I refuse to do it, Asher. I will not break her wolf like that. I can already feel her wolf and she’s strong.” Thor was frantic. The panic in his voice was something I had never heard from my generally over-confident wolf. A Mate was a liability. A way for others to get leverage over you and manipulate you to their will. I just couldn’t allow that to happen. My pack was counting on me to keep them safe and in order to do that I needed no distractions. It was obvious in just the first two minutes of meeting my mate that all of my beliefs were true. All my brother did was shake her hand and I couldn’t repress the growl that esc
Signe POV I watched him seemingly waltz out of my life through the same exact door he had walked into it. I mean, his brother said they’d be right right back, but here I was standing there at a loss for words. Did I just discover and lose my mate in a matter of two minutes? What did I do wrong? Did he have a lover back home? Was he already mated to another she wolf? I hadn’t heard that he had a chosen mate back at Blood Moon, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t possible. The thought made my heart ache. So many questions with absolutely zero answers. I mean, it can’t just be me. He doesn’t know me. Yet, the only words he has spoken to me were that he didn’t want a mate. “He mentioned that he didn’t want a mate. Maybe he thought he was never going to get one and had moved on from the idea?” Aerona said. “Or he has a chosen mate back at his pack and he’s worried that a fated mate will ruin everything.” I contemplated. “Wait, when in the hell did you become so at peace with this
Signe POV I couldn't believe that he walked by me without even looking at me. It's not as though I hadn't seen him already staring at me just a few moments ago. I turned my body around as he rushed by me following his quick and powerful strides with my eyes all the way to the table. He stopped in front of Alpha Lance, thrust his hand out and just stood there. Waiting. I looked over at Alpha Lance to see if he would accept Alpha Asher's extended hand. After what seemed like five minutes, but I know was more like five seconds, Alpha Lance finally extended his own hand grapsing Alpha Asher’s hand firmly. One quick shake and they were off. "Alright Alpha Asher. Let me introduce you to those who help in advising me and protecting this pack. Here,” he gestured to his right, “is my Beta, Owen." Beta Owen stepped forward and shook hands with Asher. "Next to him is his daughter and our future Beta, Lena." Lena just nodded her head at the introduction. "Next we have my son and fu
I was curious what this alliance would mean as well. “I’m not asking for all or even most of your warriors by any means. I would never want you to leave your own pack in a precarious position against Ian if he were to find out about our alliance and decide to attack you because of it.” Alpha Asher responded. Alpha Lance just nodded, encouraging Alpha Asher to continue. “Our pack houses are three hours apart by car and an hour to an hour and a half by wolf. I’m asking for added patrols along our shared borders to ensure nobody gets through onto Blood Moon or Crescent Moon pack lands undetected. I would do the same, also helping to ensure nobody was able to sneak onto either of our lands. I’d also like to request half a dozen of your best warriors to be added to my border patrol along the borders I share with Midnight Pack. I was also hoping for another hundred or two to be at the ready if needed.” Alpha Asher finished his explanation and continued to look at Alpha Lance expect
"Wait! What?!" Aerona and I exclaimed out loud. Only, I was the only one that everybody could hear. I snapped my head to look at Alpha Lance. "I'm sorry Alpha Lance, but I don't feel as though the supposed mate bond between Signe and myself is really much of your concern." Alpha Asher growled out.“Supposed mate bond?” Aerona said as if she was questioning Asher’s sanity. Alpha Lance didn't even so much as flinch at Alpha Asher's response. "You're right. It's not. However, it is a concern to Signe and as she is one of my pack members, I do have a right as her Alpha to help her out where I feel necessary. As of this moment, I feel that one of those times is now." Alpha Lance responded in a 'I won't take no for an answer' tone. "I will not be forced to talk with somebody just because you say to, Lance." He spat out. "Asher, you're being unreasonable. Just talk with the damn girl. If the Moon Goddess-" Alex started to say. "Fuck the Moon Goddess. She doesn't run my life. I
Signe POV Asher smirked back at me. "Is that right?" "Mmmhmm." I let my gaze wander up and down his body in clear admiration. "As good as you look in those clothes, I am sure you look better without them." "Well then. Can't have you just wondering what I look like naked. I suppose it's time to let you make the determination for yourself on how I look best." Asher winks at me and I feel my heart skip a beat. Our back and forth taunting and the constant teasing from him just made me want him more and more. "By all means." I wave my hand out in a gesture letting him know to please continue. Asher takes his clothes off slowly and seductively. Which, I won't lie, I wasn't aware that was something that men could really do. I watch as he strips off his final piece of clothing and he stands there in all of his glory staring at me while I stare back at him. I knew he had a good body, but I didn't realize it was this nice underneath his clothes. His pecks are well defined and his
Signe POVThe sensation of his teeth biting my neck is almost enough to send me straight over the edge and he hasn't even bit hard enough to actually mark me yet. A low laugh comes from Asher as he pulls away from me. He tongue runs up my neck to my chin and he places a little nibble before peppering kisses across my jaw over to my ear. "What's the matter?" He says in between kisses. "Cat got your tongue?"Each time his lips contact my skin it sends a jolt of electricity coursing throughout my entire body. "Mmmm." Is all I can manage to get out as he continues to ravish me. I should be embarrassed by my lack of speaking ability, but it's clearly not my fault I've lost all of my speaking capabilities in this moment. "Remember that punishment I mentioned earlier?" He whispers into my ear. I nod my head and try not to appear too eager to find out just what my punishment will be."Good." He gives me a little sideways grin that makes my heart skip a fraction of a beat. "You're going to
Signe POVHe wants me. It's so hard to believe and I can barely grasp it, but it's true. The way he is looking at me now tells me so much in comparison to how he was looking at me earlier today."I said..." He leans forward and runs his tongue along my jawline and to the base of my ear and Aerona starts to purr in response. "Who do you belong to?" He whispers to me again."YOU." My response is instant and without hesitation. His mouth is on mine before I can say or do anything more. Asher bites my lower lip bringing it into his mouth while sucking and nibbling on it. I can't stifle the moan that escapes from my mouth. He pulls away from me and pushes me backwards. I land on the bed with a soft plump as I sink into the comforter laid on top of the mattress.I can't help, as I stare at this alpha wolf, but to feel an ache and a need for him deep within me. The way he is looking back at me is filled with warmth and affection and I've never felt so complete from a look before in all of
Asher POVI can't get enough of her. Her taste. Her smell. The way she feels beneath my hands as I run my them over her body and find a place to hold on to. Her ass. It's like it was made for my hand. Round and firm and the perfect place to grab on to and pull her into me.She squeals when I pull her forward and the sound sends a electric shock through me. I want this she-wolf. More than she will ever know and even more than I can understand. No matter how hard I have tried to fight it these past couple of weeks, I can't stay away from her. When she began the words for her rejection, my heart surged with devastation. I couldn't allow for her to reject me. Not when I want nothing more than to be with her in every way possible and never let go.She wraps her arms around my neck, pulling herself even further into me and deepening our kiss. Still, we aren't close enough. I grab her hair and pull her face even more into mine as I am ravenous. However, she begins to fight against me and pull
Signe POVI sit down on the bed and face the door watching to see if Asher has decided to follow me yet. After a minute or so I glance at the clock on the nightstand. Four twenty-two. I will give him untill four thirty before I start packing my stuff to leave. Then I will find him and reject him and walk out of that door and his life for forever. 'We really shouldn't do this. Rejecting our mate will do us more harm than good. Maybe it's best if we just create some space between us. You know what they say. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.'She has a point. I don't want to reject him. Not truly. But the way he made me feel earlier in front of Ian. I have never felt more unwanted in my entire life. 'Honestly Aerona, I don't want to do it, but I feel he made it pretty clear where his thoughts lie on the topic before we came here and all this afternoon did was confirm what he has already told us. I thought that I could change his mind. That we could change his mind, but I don't thin
Signe POVThe car ride back to the pack house is a quiet one, giving me plenty more time to think about what had happened with Asher and Ian. Mainly Ian.He called me Siggy. Only one person has referred to me that way since my arrival. As much as I don't want it to be true, I need to confront Alex about this. I don't want to believe that Alex would do that to Asher. But why else would Ian refer to me as Siggy, when he knows that my name is Signe. We park in front of the pack house and Asher gets out of the car without a word. I open my door before his warrior has the opportunity to do so and move around the car quickly to catch up with Asher."Alpha?" I say quietly, hoping he won't hear me or that he will ignore me and keep walking. I'm losing my resolve for my earlier plans now that my anger is beginning to subside due to my concern about Alex.He stops and turns to face me. "Yes?"There it is again. That emotionless face. The one that reflects how I was feeling not long ago when we
Signe POVWhy is it that either of these assholes thinks they have any say in my life. It doesn't matter that they're Alpha's. Neither of them is my Alpha. "Seriously enough!" I'm fuming. Actually, I am more than fuming. I feel like a bomb ready to explode at any moment and I know that Aerona is ready to shift the moment I say go.I look at Ian who is still smiling at me. Does he ever stop smiling? He's completely insufferable.I take a step toward Ian in my anger. "You! I won't be coming with you. Period. End of story. So get any crazy ass thoughts that it might happen out of your mind, because it's not." I huff at him.He stands there. Smile never wavering. In fact, it's only gotten bigger and now I can humor in his eyes. Does he really think this is funny? I can't look at him anymore or I might just lose all the control I am so desperately holding on to.I turn to Asher. "Alpha Asher," I'm back to formalities now. "Please know that I am grateful to you for saving my life that day,
Asher POVIan appears giddy with the information he just revealed. As if he knows he has just opened a can of worms. But how would he know?“That’s interesting I guess. I’ve never met anybody with eyes like mine.” She feigns disinterest and I can’t help but smile internally. She’s smart and knows not to give anything away to Ian, but he’s still smiling at her as if he knows something she doesn’t. Not only that, but the way he is raking his eyes up and down her body, yet again, causes me release a growl deep in my chest. I don’t like the way he is looking at her. Not one bit. If he doesn’t learn to quit eyeballing my mate-‘He doesn’t know she’s your mate, you idiot.’ Thor growls at me. “You’re not even the least bit curious to know about her?” He’s trying to bait her now. “How her family never loved her and left her to die after trying to drown her in a river.”Signe makes a pained noise, but plays it off like her leg got a cramp. I continue watching her, but she never turns to loo
Signe POVAsher and I sit in the car in silence on our way out to the border and I have about a million and one thoughts running through my head so fast, I can't seem to hold a single thought down. Did he want to challenge me for taking his ear?Did he want to finish the job he started?Did he want to demand that Asher have me killed for attacking him?Too many thoughts, both rational and irrational going through my head and as I feel the car begin to slow down as we near the border I can't keep my heart from racing."Signe, you need to calm down. Your heart is pounding a mile a minute. Get ahold of yourself and we will figure out what it is that he wants and then send him on his way." He's trying to reassure me, but the irritation I can hear lacing his tone does anything but.I nod my head and focus on breathing. Aerona reaches out and I feel a sense of calm wash over me.'Thank you.' I say to her as she continues pacing back and forth in my head, still remaining more calm than I had
