“So what? I don’t care if Jayden Knight was a coward. I just know that someone has to be there standing to marry my daughter! I will not be insulted in front of all the guests!” Adam Walker yells.
I clench my fists, trying to control my anger.
“Adam! Let’s not forget that your daughter ran away too! If both of them are gone, how can this marriage take place?” My dad, Alexander Knight, says in an angry tone.
My brother did run away. But he was not a coward. He must have a valid reason for what he did.
You see, I believe in my brother. He’s a good person. He would’ve thought about everything.
Maybe whatever is happening is for the best…
But what I don’t understand is what could’ve happened.
My brother loved the girl he was going to marry. Though the girl’s father turned their love marriage into a business deal, neither of the two were forced to do this.
So why did they run away?
Both of them just left one note in their rooms. Both the notes had just one small string of words:
I am leaving.Just these three words written in plain black ink.
Nothing else.
“You don’t have to worry about that, Alex. I have another daughter. She’ll take her sister’s place.” Adam Walker says with a sickly evil smirk.
This man…
“Nonsense! Aviana is too young for all this! You can’t expect us to let you do such a crime and spoil that poor girl’s life!” My mother, Veronica Knight, argues.
“We can do anything with her life. After all, she’s our daughter. We can do whatever we want with her life.” Samantha Walker, Adam’s wife, says with a smug smirk matching her husband’s expression.
These two really were meant for each other…
“What can we do? Jayden is not here. Neither is your daughter, Mikaela. Both of them are gone. Even if you replace the bride, who will take Jayden's place?" I say, trying to keep the anger out of my voice.
"You will." Adam says, his smirk still plastered to his face as he looks at me. "The invitations and everything said that the daughter of Adam Walker and the son of Alexander Knight are getting married. My daughter, Aviana and Alexander's son, which is you." Adam explains.
Umm… Yeah, he did that.
He convinced us to not print the names of the bride and groom mainly because they did not have as big of a media presence as my father and he himself did.
I have no idea as to why my father agreed to it though…
"No." I say, gritting my teeth and clenching my fists to keep my anger in control.
There was no way in hell that I would be willing to let this man control me like his puppet!
Adam laughs menacingly at me.
"Oh! But you have to. If you don't, I will tell everyone that Jayden Knight ran away from his own marriage which was supposed to happen with my daughter, Aviana.” He informs me. “What the media will do to taint your family's name won't be my fault then." Adam smirks darkly.
I hear my mother gasping beside my dad as I try to reign my temper in, my nose flaring in anger at his threat.
He knows that my family is my weakness.
How low can this bastard go?! His daughter ran away too. And he's ready to ruin his younger daughter's life for his pride.
I pity the two girls who call him their father. He's a monster!
But I cannot let him ruin my family's name. My dad worked so hard to set up the reputation of us Knights as noble people. I will not let this selfish man spoil everything my father built and everything I have built during the time I have spent on this earth.
"But Aviana is just a college girl. She's too young. And don't you think that my son, Kayden, is a bit too old for her?" My father reasons.
Adam chuckles at that.
"I don't care about that as long as I am not insulted.” He waves it off. “And besides, in this modern world, no one sees the age gap of the couple if you use the word 'love' in the story." Adam says. He then turns to look me in the eye. "It's totally up to you. Either be there, or when my daughter walks down to the altar to find no one standing there, I will make sure to ruin the image that your family holds. I will make sure that you can never show your face in public again." Adam threatens.
Adam is about two inches shorter than me and as he looks up at me, it looks comical. But his threats are delivered with perfection. I will have to admit, this man is good at being a total douche.
"Even if we agree to this, how will we get the wedding dress fitted according to Aviana's size in just two hours?" My mother tries to reason.
"Leave that to me, Veronica. I am the world's best fashion designer. I can get the dress ready with just a snap of my fingers. In fact, it's already ready. Aviana is getting ready. And as for Kayden's outfit, I have that ready too." Samantha Walker says as she snaps her fingers. She smirks at my parents.
"So, will you marry my daughter or get destroyed?" Adam asks me.
How much more despicable can this man be?
"I will marry her." I say through my gritted teeth.
I never could have even imagined that I would be getting married like this. In fact, I never even thought that I would ever marry anyone.
But here I am, sitting in the backseat of the car with the girl who is now my wife.During the whole ceremony, I didn't even look at her face. I just did whatever I was told. It was when the priest asked me to kiss her that I finally saw her face.
She looked angry but she was trying not to let it show her face.
I just gave her a little peck. I couldn't kiss her.
She's not someone I ever thought I'll marry or even talk to.
When it was time for us to go for the reception, Aviana said something to her father which made his face pale.
Adam announced that the 'newly married couple' wanted to go and rest and have their first night in peace as they were tired. That helped in avoiding any questions as we skipped our own reception.
Thank the lords above!
During the whole ride to my penthouse, I sat there in my seat looking out of the window and she did the same.
When we reached, I just gave her a look, telling her to follow me and she understood, following behind me without any questions asked.
We were now at my penthouse. The staff that came to arrange her stuff in her room bowed at us a little before they left for the day.
It was just me and her now. I clear my throat, awkwardly.
"So, that is the kitchen." I tell her pointing towards the kitchen. "There is your room and my room is over there." I say, pointing in the direction of the rooms. I have specifically given her the room farthest from mine. Our rooms were practically on the opposite ends of the penthouse. "Don't enter my room without my permission and I will do the same. The chef will be here in the morning to make breakfast. You can tell her what you like and at what times you will be eating." I explain.
I just want this day to be over at this point.
"Okay." She says with a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders as she turns to give a quick look around the house.
I stand there in shock as she huffs and takes off her awfully high heels and starts walking towards her room.
"Okay? You have nothing else to say?" I ask in bewilderment, making her stop and turn to look at me.
Honestly, I don't know what I was expecting her to say but 'okay' surely wasn't what I was expecting.
I thought that she would tell me stuff like how a married couple was supposed to stay together and stuff like that. I mean, she is still a young girl.
I remember my parents telling me that she was still in college. Aren't young girls supposed to be a little too over the top about love and stuff like that?
Am I reading too much into this?
"What else am I supposed to say?" She asks with a confused frown on her face. Then, in a few seconds, I see the wheels turning in her head as realization dawns on her about what I was expecting. "Oh! Sorry! Goodnight." She says with a smile on her face. I raise an eyebrow at her.
This girl is weird...
“That’s not what I meant.” I mumbled, shaking my head. "Are you okay with the fact that we have separate rooms?" I ask her.
"Oh! That! Actually, I am happy that you gave me my own room. I am used to having my personal space. Thanks for that." She says with a sweet smile.
Umm… Okay.
"Uh... You're welcome." I say, not knowing what else to say.
"Okay, I am super exhausted so I am going to bed. Goodnight!" She says as she turns and enters her room.
"Goodnight." I say behind her as a smile breaks on my face. I didn't know what I expected but I certainly wasn't this.
She's different…
I adjust my tie, walking out of my room, reading the day’s schedule that my assistant sent me this morning. I hear laughter when I reach the kitchen which makes me look up from my phone to see Aviana laughing at something with the chef who was a kind lady in her late forties. Aviana notices me standing there and waves at me with a huge grin on her face “Good morning!” Aviana says in a chirpy voice. Her smile is beautiful and contagious but I struggle to keep my face blank. Aviana’s medium length chocolate brown hair is in loose curls as they reach her waist. She looks young and carefree in her skinny light blue jeans, plain black top and a pair of black sneakers. “Morning.” I say with a slight nod of my head as I start eating the waffles that the chef places in front of me. I look at Aviana when I don’t hear her saying anything to find her frowning at me. “What?” I ask her, raising an eyebrow in question. “I wished you to have a good morning and in reply, you just wished me to
I am eating the heavenly pancakes made by Kayden Knight’s personal chef, Martha when I see him coming towards the kitchen. He was wearing a navy-blue suit with a white shirt and a blue tie. He looked so damn hot! His suit fitted him well, showing off his slightly lean and muscled torso. It wasn’t a secret that he had a delicious body. I have seen him in just a tank top and some sweatpants when he was going to the gym. And to say that he looked hot was an understatement. Besides his hot body, he had a handsome face which looked as if he was god’s masterpiece. His eyes are dark green and he has such inviting lips. I remember how it felt when he pecked my lips during our wedding. It wasn’t enough to quench the thirst of my curiosity. I wanted to feel his lips on mine. I shake my head to clear my thoughts. You can’t
“Vi, why are you being so.... Normal about everything?! He is ruining your life!” Sebastian shouts. Well, Tyler was right. Seb is not taking it well. “Seb, he was stuck just like me. It’s all unexpected to him too. We both are kinda in the same situation. And though you understand me the best, he understands the situation better than you because he’s stuck too. I just want to get to know him. He isn’t the bad guy here.” I explain. All my other friends left the room as soon as I told everyone about my plans. They knew how Seb was going to explode. So, they gave us some space. “What if he is a paedophile? Huh? What will you do then?” Sebastian asks as he pulls onto his dark, almost black hair. “He’s just 26! I am 21 for crying out loud! He’s just five years older than us! And he’s actually better than you think.” I
I am sitting in my chair for breakfast but Aviana is still not here. I don't know why I was expecting to see her here when I came here. Maybe because ever since she came to my house, she's always been here before me. Now that she is not here, I notice how I was getting used to her being around. It has been all but four days that she's been here and I was already getting used to her being around. I wouldn't ever admit this to anyone but I was kind of looking forward to seeing her around now. "Good Morning, Martha! Good Morning, Kayden. I'm sorry I'm late." Aviana says in a rushed tone as she settles down beside me. She has her hair up in a messy bun but a few strands are left to frame her sweet and delicate face. She is wearing light grey skinny jeans, a black tank top with her name written on the back and 'The Band' written on the front and black heeled-boots.
“Hello, whoever this is, that evil and scary Professor Wilson is locked up in his office so get your ass back to the ground! The protest is starting in T minus 10 minutes. If you have any other query, contact my assistant, Sebastian.” I hear Aviana yelling over a lot of noise as soon as she picks up the call. I guess she hasn’t saved my number or she didn’t look at the caller ID. But what surprises me is the fact that she wasn’t joking about the protest.“Hey! I am not your assistant!” I hear someone yelling behind her.“Seb! I’m talking to someone. It’s rude to yell or eavesdrop!” Aviana scolds the person who interrupted her. I hear the same voice mumbling something but I cannot make out what he is saying.“Who is this Professor Wilson?”
To say that the dinner meeting went well, would be an understatement. It went criminally well. Even though I was late, the Hendersons loved me! Jake was a fan of mine and so was his mother. It was just that Jake had seen all of our music videos so he knew what I looked like while his mother just listened to our songs. By the end of the night, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson were so impressed with me that they asked me to visit them at least once every week. They said that they loved to talk to me. But I could tell that something was bothering Kayden. And I have a pretty good idea about what was bothering him. When Jake mentioned how Sebastian was about to propose to me, I practically saw Kayden freezing. He didn't speak much after that. I did all the talking which was mostly to distract the Hendersons from Kayden's sudden change of mood. Right now, Kayden and I are on the way to his house. We are just about a minute away from his pent house and he hasn't spoken anything to me till now. I loo
"Good Morning, Aviana." I hear Kayden's voice just as I leave my room. I have already showered after my gym time with my girls. I am about to head to the band rehearsals right after breakfast. "Good Morning, Kayden" I say when I see him flipping pancakes in the kitchen. "Where is Martha?" I ask him. I hear him chuckle before he turns off the stove and turns to me. He is wearing a plain light grey T-shirt and black jeans. In his casual wear, he looks a bit younger and carefree. He is looking really good as his T-shirt fits like a second skin, showing off his perfectly toned chest. His black hair is perfectly messy but still looks good. "Your faith in my cooking skills is heart-breaking." He replies with a hand placed on his chest where his heart is supposed to be. I giggle at that. and then cross my arms across my chest as I raise an eyebrow, letting him know
“Okay, it’s been hours and you are still not crazy happy like you usually are when I come back after more than a week. I was gone for a month! You are supposed to be over the moon!” Mason says as he throws his hands up in exaggeration. I roll my eyes at my best friend. “I am happy to have you back, bro!” I tell him. Mason Trey Cooper has been my best friend for as long as I remember. We’ve been inseparable since the beginning. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t friends with him. “You are clearly distracted. What’s the matter? Or should I ask, who is the matter?” Mason asks with a smirk on his face. I give him a bored look as if to say, ‘really?’. “Come on! Is it your new wife? The one you had to marry?” He asks, his expression turning sour. “She’s not that bad, Mace.” I tell him, feeling defensive about Aviana
“Okay, don’t be angry but I kinda really need your help.” I hear Aviana’s sweet voice whispering as soon as I put the phone to my ear. Wow! This must be the first time that she has called me and to say that I’m not shocked would be a big fat lie. And she needs my help… At least that means that she trusts me to some extent. “Hello to you too! Where are you and what kind of help are you talking about?” I say as a smile instantly forms on my face. I cannot help but smile with her. Nowadays, just her voice or her face or even a thought about her is enough for a smile to form on my face. See ho
“What are you doing now?” I ask when I hear the loud background noise as Aviana picks up my call. I can hear people shouting in the background and it sounds like a big crowd. I smile as I think about how serious she was last time about protesting about French fries. This girl is seriously unlike anyone I've ever met!“Hey! I am not the one who got all these people here! It was Jared!” She says in a defensive tone.I can almost imagine the pout she must be sporting right at this moment. I chuckle and shake my head.“What is happening there?” I ask her. I hear some shuffling from the other end before the background voices become a little lesser. Aviana sighs tiredly on the other end before she replies.“Jared got a project in which he’s making a small movie with a friend. Half of the movie is completed so they had to gather a little crowd to see it. That idiot told everyone that our band will be singing live and now almost the whole college is here. Even a few teachers are here.” Sh
“I can’t believe it!” I suddenly speak up as I stare at my phone screen in shock. It is five minutes past midnight which means it is Monday already. “What happened?” Kayden asks as he looks at me with a frown. Kayden and I are sitting on the couch with his arm wrapped around my shoulder and my head placed on his chest as I lean on him while we watch the live drama. The live drama being Mason and Caroline arguing with each other on the floor in front of us about something I don't remember. I'm pretty sure that they themselves don't remember why they started arguing in the first place. After breakfast, the four of us decided to spend some time together so after we all got home, took our shower and got ready, we went to a fair. We enjoyed it a lot and we were tired but it wasn’t too late so we came back to Kayden’s penthouse to chill. We watched two movies before we started talking about random things. We were all laughing and joking around, having fun. I didn't even reali
I open my eyes to find my face resting on Kayden’s muscular chest, his arm wrapped tightly around my waist. I look up at his face to see a peaceful expression on his face. It is still a little too early in the morning, so there isn’t much light but I can still see his face clearly. I reach up to touch his cheek when I feel him stirring in his sleep. I pull my hand back and look down, pretending to be asleep.Did I wake him up?Darn it!If he finds out that I’ve been staring at him in his sleep, he’ll surely think that I’m a creep!“I know you are up.” I hear his deep husky voice which contains a hint of humour. I sheepishly look up into his deep green eyes, making him chuckle. “Good Morning, princess.” He says in a husky whisper. I feel the heat creeping up to my cheeks at the endearment but I maintain my composure as I look directly into his eyes.I am Aviana the great! I am not one who gets embarrassed easily. I am someone who embarrasses people with ease! And I’ll show that to h
As the doors of the lift open, I quickly press the buttons to take me back up to the penthouse. I can’t just leave Aviana like that. I have to prove to her that I am not a monster, that I am not a beast. I have to apologize for what I said when my brain wasn’t working. She was just trying to help! Why on earth did I shout at her like that? What might she be thinking about me now!? I have to make everything alright. I have to do something fast!I rush back into the house. Martha looks at me with a startled expression as I enter the kitchen in search of Aviana. She gives me a knowing smile as she recovers from her shock. Right. Aviana went to her room…I awkwardly nod at Martha, who is smirking at me now, before I walk towards Aviana’s room.“Aviana?” I call out as I knock on her door. I stand there patiently. The rooms in the house are soundproof so I am not able to hear anything happening inside the room. After a minute, I knock on the door again. The door opens to reveal a ver
I leave my room to go to work when I hear a familiar sweet laughter coming from the kitchen, making me frown. Wasn’t she supposed to be in college by now? I make my way to the kitchen to find her sitting at the breakfast bar on her chair, laughing at something with Martha. I’m awestruck as I take in her. She is wearing a plain black summer dress which comes to her mid-thigh with a pair of knee-length heeled boots. Dear good lord! When she looks at me, she waves at me with her usual grin."Good Morning, Kayden!" She says when I reach her. She stands up and wraps her arms around my neck, shocking me. I quickly recover from the shock and wrap my arms around her waist. "I missed you." she mumbles.Ever since the party almost two weeks ago, we haven't really seen each other. She was busy all week and so was I. I even worked on weekends to keep myself busy. I didn't even see her in the morning because she was either getting ready or she was at her rehearsals. And I won't lie, I really d
"Aviana!" I was laughing at what Ryan had said when I heard someone calling out for me. I turn to the direction of the voice to find Kayden and Mason coming towards us.Me and my friends had been standing here with Ryan Peterson himself. He claimed that we were the best group of people amongst all the others at the party. Now, if that isn’t flattering, I don’t know what is…"Mason!" Caroline exclaims before she rushes to Mason with a big smile on her face. Mason and Caroline both hug each other while me and my friends laugh. They’re just so cute! And it’s refreshing to see Caroline being like this, this happy and excited, with someone. And that too, someone nice like Mason.I’m so damn happy for them!"Mr. Knight! It's so nice to see you." Ryan says, extending his hand to Kayden for a handshake. Kayden shakes his hand with a slight, formal nod."Happy Birthday, Mr. Peterson." Kayden says in a business-like tone. I look at their exchange and frown. That was so… dry!"That's what you
"I am bored!" I whine, slumping in my seat in the cafeteria. I sigh as I place my head on Gabriel's shoulder. "And I am sleepy." I say, closing my eyes.Gabe huffs at my dramatic display."Were you watching a movie last night?" Jared asks. I open my eyes to find him eating fries from my tray. This monster!I slap his hand away, sitting up.Doesn’t this guy know that you should never steal Aviana’s food?!"I was but that's not the point. We haven't gone somewhere to hang out and just have fun for a long time!" I say before I start eating the fries.Ever since the protest, the food quality
"Aviana?" I call out, knocking lightly on her door. It's been about an hour since Caroline and Mason left. And I can't take it anymore. I have to see her face. I have to make sure that she's alright. Right now, my brain and my heart both are telling me to reach out to her.I just have to reach out to her…"Come in." She speaks up in her soft voice from inside the room. I hesitantly open the door and look around the room. The walls of the room are plain white in colour but she's made that look not so plain with a colourful feather drawn on one of the walls while the other had about a hundred picture frames of different size placed close to each other to make a heart shape. Her plain dark wooden desk is nicely arranged with a few folders on the side and a cute pencil-stand and her laptop. Her room looked clean and kind of lively. It felt like a fresh breath of air in front of my plain and dead room. Though it wasn't as big as my room, it looked a lot better. It was big but not lonely
