Allison Jane Grey was new to town; her family moved around a lot, and she was a shy girl, so making new friends almost every year was hard for her. She was starting her first year in high school this year.
While she sat in the office quietly, waiting to be given her schedule from the school counselor. She was lost in thought, looking out the big window that showed all the other students meeting up with their friends and chatting before the first bell. She had never been to a public school before. She was always homeschooled by her mother. She wondered what this school would be like. Would she make friends easily here? Would she finally find a boyfriend? Other than the fact that she had never been to public school, Allison was so shy that she didn't make friends easily, even in online chat groups, and she was never brave enough to even look at guys when out in public, so of course she never had a boyfriend before.Maybe this year would be different, though; maybe she could finally find a way out of her shell and become more outgoing. While that didn't seem likely, Allison couldn't help but think about it anyway."Allison Jane Grey, I have your schedule ready for you," the school counselor said, breaking Allison out of her thoughts. "Please wait here while we get someone to show you around and take you to your first class.""That's okay," Allison said nervously. "Actually, if you don't mind, I'd like to try and find the class myself." She was hoping that she didn't have to meet someone new so soon. The school counselor gave Allison a sympathetic look and said, "I'm sorry, Hun, it's school policy; we can't have new students get lost on their first day." The school counselor hesitated for a moment and then continued. "Your mom told me that ever since your dad passed away, you've been shy and have trouble making friends. I've picked a student that I think you'll get along well with and can help you feel welcome here."Allison was not happy, but she knew she had no other choice. Of course, her mom used the excuse of her dad dying; the truth was, she had never had a strong relationship with her mom. Her dad was her rock and always got her through everything. She blamed her mom for his death because of all the moving they constantly did. Maybe if they had stayed in one place, her dad could have gotten consistent treatment for his cancer. As Allison was once again lost in thought and unaware of what was going on around her, the school counselor had already called someone down to the office to be her guide for the day.Allison jumped a little when, almost out of nowhere, a hand came into her view."Hi, you must be Allison Jane. My name is Jensen Brown, and I'll be your partner for the day."Allison shook his hand. "Please, my friends, call me Allie or Allison."Jensen smiled at Allison. "Come on, I'll show you around. The school counselor gave me a copy of your schedule, and it looks like we have the same classes, so feel free to follow me until you're comfortable."After Jensen showed Allison around, they went to their first period class together. Allison picked a seat in the back, hoping the teacher wouldn't call her up to the front of the class to be introduced to everyone. Luckily, the 1st period teacher either didn't notice or just didn't care. The next four classes went the same way. By lunchtime, Allison was actually hungry. At home, she ate lunch around 11:30 or whenever she felt hungry, but since school didn't start for high schoolers until 9 here, they didn't have lunch until 12:30. Allison grabbed her lunch box from her backpack and headed towards the cafeteria. She was happy she didn't have to follow Jensen because the cafeteria was right outside the office and she knew exactly where to go. She picked a table where no one else was sitting and began eating her lunch.Soon after, she noticed Jensen and some of his friends heading her way. "Great," she thought to herself. "I was hoping I would be eating lunch alone. I hate eating in front of others. For some reason, it felt like torture, even though everyone has to eat and it's a totally normal thing to do."Jensen and his friends got to the table where Allison was sitting. Jensen spoke first. "Hey guys, this is Allison Jane; she prefers to go by Allison or Alllie though. Allison, these are my friends. Devon, George, Grace, Heather, and Kyle." They all sat down and started gossiping with each other. It wasn't long before Allison was able to put together that Heather and Devon were a couple as well as Grace and Kyle. George's girlfriend was absent today but her name was Brittany. Jensen was the only single one in their group. the others always tried to set him up with friends from other schools but Jensen never really liked any of the other girls. "Hey Jensen I have an idea for this weekend!" Devon blurted out unable to contain his excitement. "instead of going alone to the ski resort this weekend you and Allie should go together!" Devon looked over at Allison and said "I hope it's okay that I call you Allie." Allison shook her head and smiled "I don't mind. some of my friends have called me Allie in the past." Jensen spoke next "Well I don't have any other plans this weekend. I was just going to sit this trip out. if you'd like to though I wouldn't mind going with you Allie. it's a popular hang out spot for our group and you're welcome to come along any time." Allison was Ha
Erika told Allison to get in the house so she could deal with the strangers that were sitting in her driveway. Allison looked back at Jenson tears streaming from her eyes already from embarrassment and apologized. Jensen tried to stand up to Erika for Allison explaining that school was out at 3pm and Allison was still sitting alone at 3:45pm. Erika didn't want to hear any of it. She shoved past Jensen with her pointer finger in the air yelling at Jensen's mom. Mrs. Brown got out of her vehicle to talk with Erika. "I'm Sorry for the misunderstanding Mrs. Grey. We didn't mean any harm in bringing Allison home. My son and your daughter have classes together and when we saw her sitting alone well after school had been let out we thought we could take her home instead of leaving her in the cold." The temperature outside had dropped from this morning. It was now 33⁰ outside. A cold front was quickly moving in. The temperature didn't bother Erika and Allison much. They lived most of th
Allison remembered back when her dad was still alive. Her mom wanted them to move from Texas to Florida but her dad had just started getting good treatment at a hospital in Dallas. James (Allison's dad) didn't want to leave Texas just yet. He was finally getting the treatment he needed for his Cancer and was actually starting to feel better for once. Allison's parents fought for a week before James eventually gave up and let Erika have her way. He knew that it would hurt Allison if he let her mother take her to Florida while he stayed in Texas for his treatments. James didn't have any rights over Allison because when she was born he was in jail for a minor drug problem. He had gotten treatment at a facility for 3 years and Erika had convinced the judge at the time that James was too unstable to have rights to a child. James had been battling cancer for the past 8 years and just never got around to taking Erika to court again. It had only been 5 months after moving to Florida t
Tonight for dinner they were having lasagna again. Allison hated lasagna not only did they have it at least once a week since she could remember but also because it was her dad's favorite meal and she missed him so much more every time they ate it. Erika had stopped making homemade lasagna after James passed away. It was much easier for her to just buy a box that she could throw in the oven. After dinner Allison asked to be excused so she could get some homework done and shower. Her mother agreed to let her and she was surprised that it didn't turn into an argument. The next morning Erika seemed to be in a really good mood and offered to take Allison to school. Erika told Allison she would need to find her own way home from school because she had a date and wouldn't be back until the morning. Erika warned Allison that Jamenson and Mrs. Bowen better not be the ones to bring her home. Allison thought about correcting her mother on Jensen and Mrs. Brown's names but thought she'd b
After Dinner once the girls were at Brittany's house they continued to bond over common interests. Both the girls had lost their fathers but Brittany's father, Robert was actually shot while he was at work. Someone mistook him for someone else and shot him. Once they realized they had the wrong person they called 911, made an anonymous report and ran off. Unfortunately Robert was already gone by the time anyone got to him. Brittany's mother Loral was very kind. She told Allison to make herself feel at home and that she was welcome over any time. Loral was a Nurse at the local hospital and worked Nights so as soon as she got the girls and Brittan's brother Jase settled with snacks and a movie she headed off to work. The girls stayed up talking and sharing memories until 1am. The next day as they were getting ready to go to the ski resort Allison got an angry text from her mom telling her she wanted her home within 30 minutes. After 10 minutes and not getting a response from Alli
Once everyone arrived at Jensen's house they all went downstairs into the finished basement to play pool and watch movies. Allison was starting to feel sick after being in the cold so long so Jensen offered to take her home or let her lay down and rest in their guest bedroom. Allison opted to lay down for a little while with plans to join the others later. She wasn't ready to go home and face her mother. Jensen was periodically checking in on her quietly so he didn't disturb her. He plugged her phone into the charger so she could use it when she woke up. Since her type of phone automatically turns on when it's connected to the charger it tuned on and messages from her mom started flooding in.Jensen wasn't typically nosey but he couldn't help but read a few of the messages that popped up on the screen. some of them read "Allison I know you've turned your phone off you little b!tch.""I swear when you get home you're in so much trouble. How dare you ignore me all day.""If you're
Allison walked into her mom's house. Erika and Officer Kieth were sitting at the kitchen table with pictures of Allison on the table. Her mom had clearly been crying. Allison asked what was going on and Officer Kieth stood up and started heavily walking towards her. Officer Kieth spoke loudly and it startled Allison at first. "Where have you been? your mother has been worried sick about you! She called me over last night and we were just getting ready to leave and go to the station to file a missing persons report. you have a lot of explaining to do to your mother young lady. it was irresponsible turning off your phone and ignoring her the way you did." Allison stood in shock for a moment and then started trying to explain. She told her mother she had texted her and said she would be with Brittany but her mom said she never got the text. Allison showed her mom the thumbs up response she had gotten. Her mother became hysterical and started screaming and throwing glass dishes aroun
The ride home was long and seemed to drag by. The restaurant they went to was 2 hours away but the view was worth it. Allison started drifting off to sleep in the back seat. She had a Dream about Jensen. He was dating a very pretty girl. She had strawberry blonde hair and dark brown eyes. They seemed to be arguing about something but Allison didn't know what. she remember Jensen calling out the girls name, Hailey. Jensen seemed to be getting more and more upset as the call went on. by the end they were both crying. Jensen hung up the phone and laid back on his bed. Hailey had sent Jensen a text but he decided not to look at it. Allison could feel that he was angry as she dreamt about him. around 10am Hailey hadn't showed up to school so Jensen took out his phone and read her message. She had apologized for causing a fight between the two over another guy and threatened to take her own life if Jensen was so unhappy with her. Jensen frantically started calling Hailey. When she didn't
