Chapter 5

So, I refused to sleep in the same bed as him. I ended up staying in his room while he went to sleep in my old room.

I lay awake deep into the night, my mind racing with thoughts about what to do next. I knew I couldn’t stay here any longer. Just the two of us alone in this place, with him clearly interested in me—it was making me increasingly uneasy.

Early the next morning, with dark circles under my eyes, I told him my plan.

“I’m going to move out. I’ve been imposing on you for too long, and I’ll pay back the medical expenses once I’ve saved up enough.”

I still had a few thousand saved up. It wasn’t much, but it would be enough to get a place and make it through the transition.

He glanced at me, his eyes narrowing as he traced the rim of his coffee cup. His voice was calm, almost too casual. “You’re sure about this?”

I nodded. “Yes.”

“Alright. I’ll find you a place.” He took a sip of coffee, his eyes dropping as a shadow briefly crossed his face.
