Xander’s POV

I sat on a barstool bored. There were the same faces in this bar day in and day out. I need a new bar. She opened the door and looked back one last time before leaving me with a gentle smile.

My phone vibrated on the nightstand, I looked over and let out a heavy sigh. It’s Wesley, trying to ruin my fun. I picked up the phone and answered, “yes, Wesley?”

“Sire, where have you been all night? You can’t keep doing what you want like this. It isn’t proper for someone of your status.” Wesley scolded.

“I don’t really care,” I drawled before I hung up with a growl. I guess it’s time to get to work.

Julia’s POV

I can’t believe I did that. I was so heartbroken that I slept with a total stranger. Thank God he had protection on him. I just wanted to feel someone else’s hands on me to try and wipe away the feel of Ray. It didn’t work. I called into work and decided to nap for awhile, I was exhausted after spending all night awake in the hotel room.

I made myself some tea and sat down on my bed, getting ready for sleep when my mom called me.

“Julia! How are you?” She chirped.

“I’m alright, mama. How’s it going?” I asked.

“Honey, remember I was telling you about Jason, the man I met at the banquet?” She asked.

“Hm, yea,” I said. I didn’t normally pay much attention to the men my mother dated because she went through them like crazy.

“He proposed last week!” She exclaimed. I gasped, shocked.

“Congrats, mom. That’s fantastic! When is the wedding?” I asked her.

“In six months, I would prefer a spring/summer wedding. You know I don’t do winter.” She answered. Mother hated the cold, that’s why she lived in Florida. It was warm and humid most of the time.

“That’s good to hear, let me know when and where when you figure it out, okay? Love you, mom. I’m going to lay down for a nap.” I told her.

We exchanged goodbyes and I hung up the phone and threw myself backwards on the bed. My mom was getting married. She’s never been married before. My father was a faceless man at a bar and all she knew was his name was Jacob. Since I was little, our home was a revolving door of men, all of them “the one.” Until they left her heartbroken, and I had to pick up the pieces. I swore I’d never be like her. “Julia?” A voice called out. I looked up and saw him. Xander. I never expected to see him again, especially so soon.

“Xander, what are you doing here?” I asked him.

He pointed to the ground, there was an adorable little terrier attached to the leash he was holding.

“Walking my dog, her name is Angel.” He replied smoothly. I guess I’ve never seen him on my runs before because this is a route I don’t normally take.

“It’s very nice to see you again, Julia. It’s a little late though to be running, don’t you think? It’s already past 11 pm.” He said.

“I know, I just needed a reset. I accidentally slept the whole day.” I admitted blushing. I looked him up and down, he was wearing jeans and a fitted black shirt. His dirty blonde hair brushed the tips of his ears, and his hazel eyes were sharp. I felt an immense attraction to him at the bar, and even now.

I swallowed hard, “so why are you out so late?”

“Angel had to go potty. This park is right by my house.” He said. I looked around curiously. I was in a ritzy part of town. I didn’t live in a hovel, but I was by no means rolling in the money.

“Well, I guess I’ll be going now.” I told him. He grabbed my arm to stop me.

“Wait, let me get your number. It’s got to be fate that we met again; don’t you think?” He said eagerly. I looked him up and down.

“Sorry, I can’t. I’m not up for dating right now.” I told him honestly.

He seemed to pout a bit, “I see. Well, it was nice seeing you again, Julia.”

“Nice seeing you too, Xander.” I said as I walked away and started to head back home. After walking a minute, I picked up my speed and ran all the way back. Huffing when I got to my front door.

I can’t believe I ran into him again. Was it fate?
