I woke up from the noise outside. I can hear laughters and giggles outside the tent. Napaupo ako mula sa pagkakahiga. My stomach grumbled from my sudden move.
Just when I’m about to stand up, two girls entered the tent.
Damn it, this is so awkward. I don’t know what to do so I decided to just roam my eyes around the tent. 3 cot beds including mine, some lampshades and one table were inside.
“This is Sandy, ako naman si Mika, kami yung makakasama mo dito sa tent,” saad muli ng babaeng maikli ang buhok. I nodded to acknowledge them.
“Nyx… I’m Nyx.” Pagpapakilala ko sa sarili ko. Mika smiled widely and walked towards me. She immediately hooked her arm on mine saka ako hinila palapit kay Sandy. Gaya ng ginawa niya sa ’kin, she also hooked her arm to Sandy. Nagmukha tuloy kaming bodyguard niya.
She dragged us outside. Cold wind immediately brushed my skin. I shivered a bit. I looked up, the moon’s light dominated the sky. Patuloy pa rin ang paghila sa ’min ni Mika until she saw a group of boys standing near a tree. Kenta was one of them. Mabilis niya kaming hinila, causing me to stumble down.
“Bro, what a wimp,” sabi niya saka hinawakan ang balikat ni Kenta.
His remark elevated my anger.
“Who are you calling a wimp?” singhal ko.
“Yo chill, I was just kidding. No need to get physical.”
I let go of him but my glare remained.
“Damn, she’s scary,” he said and hid behind Kenta.
Kenta shook his head. “She’s not.”
“You sure I’m not?
He smirked. “Hundred percent.”
Bago ko pa siya malapitan, Mica already stopped me. She dragged me to her direction. “Don’t mind them. Let’s not start a fight on your first day here, okay?”
The guy with eyeglasses extended his arm. “I’m Lucas, welcome to the camp.” I nodded to acknowledge him.
I don’t shake hands. Not my thing.
“Hi Nyx!
Habang hinihila niya ako, I took it as my chance to wander my eyes around.
My stomach grumbled when I smelled something delicious. Sandy chuckled a bit nang marinig iyon. My face turned red, embarrassed with what happened. We went inside and saw some people lining up with trays on their hands.
I was about to join her, but she stopped me. She told us to just wait for her outside at siya na raw ang kukuha para saming tatlo.
“Sandy do’n tayo sa Circle,” sabi niya.
Sandy nodded and looked at me. “Tara, Nyx”
“Mika, dito tayo!” Zeke shouted while raising his right arms. Sandy held my hand and dragged me towards Zeke’s direction.
Nang makalapit kami, I saw the curly-haired guy, Lucas and Kenta there too. Nagtama ang mga mata namin ni Kenta. His lips curved, forming a smirk. Agad akong nainis sa nakita. This guy is really testing me.
Zeke tapped his left side, telling me to sit beside him. I ignored him and sat beside Sandy.
Mika gave me my ration. Agad ko iyong tinikman but immediately regretted. The soup was bitter! Agad akong napangiwi nang malasahan iyon. I heard barks of laughter coming from right. It was Lucas.
“It’s a r****h soup, you’ll get used to it,” Lucas said and sat beside me. Tinanguan ko lamang siya. Muli akong humigop, this time the bitterness was tolerable. O baka siguro gutom lang ako? I don’t know.
Nasa pangatlong subo na ako nang biglang may bumato sa hawak kong pinggan causing the hot soup to spill all over my thigh.
“Oops! My hand slipped,” Kenta said while grinning.
That’s it. His arms got hit. Blood was rushing down his arms. Ngumisi ako.
“Oops! Mine too” I said, copying him.
Stop playing with foods, it's rude.”
Mabilis akong dinaluhan nina Mika at Sandy but I ignored them. “Stay away from me,” I warned them. Umatras naman sila but worry is visible on their eyes.
Kenta laugh, but there’s no humor in it. “You were also rude to us earlier, kahit si Icarus hindi mo pinalampas,” Kenta fired back.
Bahagya akong napatawa sa naging dahilan niya. “Is that your way of revenge for what I did earlier? Boy, that’s childish.”
His brows furrowed.
“Bro, chill. ‘Wag mo siyang masyadong galitin, she’s scary.” Pigil ni kulot sa kanya.
“I told you she’s not! Her rude behavior won’t make her strong. She’s just using it to hide her weak, hollow self,” sagot ni Kenta sa kanya. Kulot shook his head and stepped back.
And just so you know, your childish actions won’t make you look strong either.”
How dare him belittle me! Wala siyang alam sa buhay ko!
“You think so?” he replied
“Yes!”
“Yeah? You got something in mind to prove it?”
Natiklop ang bibig ko sa tanong niya. How am I going to prove that he's weak? Fuck it. Nyx, think!
“What now, Nyx? Paano mo mapapatunayan na mahina ako?” Panunuya niya.
May isang ideyang pumasok sa isip ko, but it’s too risky.
“Wala ka pala eh.” Kenta turned his back on me. Bago pa siya makalayo, nagsalita na ako.
“How about a duel?” I suggested.
“No!” Mika shouted.
Nagsinghapan ang mga nandoon sa sinabi ko. Muling humarap si Kenta. May hinugot siya sa kanyang mga paa. He’s now holding two daggers. Hinagis niya sa sa lupa ang isa.
“Deal,” he said with a smirk still plastered on his face.
“Kenta, stop!” Pigil ni Lucas sa kanya, but Kenta just shrugged it off.
“Damn it! ‘Wag mong patulan, mapapatay mo siya!” Kulot blurted out.
Kenta looked at me. “Then so be it.”
“That’s it for today, I’m also reminding you about your research paper, deadline’s on Friday,” Professor Nee said and left the room.
