Zyrielle's POV.

I faced Lucas with a small smile on my face. He was trying to get on my very nerves but I wasn't going to allow that. It was a long time coming and I had to maintain an utmost indifference to whatever he was trying to do.

"Have you also decided to start stalking me now? I know that you might have missed having me around but this doesn't make any sense. You are here to shop, why don't you do that and get out?" I inquired from him

He was surprised at my dismissive reply. They wanted me to get into a word battle with them but it wasn't going to happen.

"Is this what Rain has been teaching you? To forget that you once had people who helped you achieve everything that you possess today. It is a sign of forgetfulness when people suddenly become more than they thought they could. I don't blame you at all because it's just a response to what I should have known you would do."

I was tired of having this conversation and looked around. This was the time I really nee

Zyrielle's POV. "Hi Dr Sanchez." I greeted as soon as I entered his office. He didn't respond as usual but only shot me a smile. "It's good to see you again Mrs Duncan." He answered in a measured tone, causing me to restrain my happiness. Rain had decided to come with me into the doctor's office so that he could hear what he had to say for himself. I knew it was just an excuse so that he could ascertain how Dr Sanchez loved me so much. This was still foreign to me. Their rivalry was subtle but I could spot it now that I knew. "Good day Mr Duncan." Dr Sanchez spoke in the professional tone brooking no form of familiarity. "Good day Dr Sanchez. It's good to see you again." He responded in an equal matching tone. I felt like sighing because this man was going to make this examination very difficult for me to concentrate on. "Can I have a moment with you Dr Sanchez?" Rain spoke and I shook my head. "I promise it won't be for long. If you can just spare me a little time, I

Lucas's POV. Walking down the aisle with Cheryl didn't seem like a very good option at the moment with the way she had taken it upon herself to frustrate the energy out of my life. Although she didn't see it as a problem, I couldn't cope with such an intense amount of nagging anymore. "Why would you even say that I caused you problems? This is just something we can resolve calmly." She continued yapping. I tuned her out of my mind as I focused on my next move. I didn't want Rain to see me coming. I wanted to take him unaware so that he stopped gloating. "Are you even listening to me?" She asked. I looked up and heaved a sigh. Cheryl was going to be the death of me. "Why have you taken it upon yourself to frustrate me?" I answered her speedily. She wore a shocked expression but I refused to give in. "Why would you even say that?" She asked but I shrugged. "I have been nothing but sweet to you. Ever since you saw Zyrielle again you have been acting strange. If anyone

Rain's POV. The week has been so hectic, coupled with everything that Zyrielle had been going through and me trying to play doctor so that she would recover quickly or not relapse, so I decided to head to a bar to clear my head before I returned home. "Yo man! It's nice running into you today. We never see you anywhere anymore." Jack, one of my friends said and I rolled my eyes. Of course, he was going to have something to say. "He doesn't look like he's in a good mood," Turner spoke mockingly and I rolled my eyes. I should have known better than to invite them over for a drink. "Reserving a VIP lounge doesn't give you the right to constitute a nuisance." I fired them so that they could maintain some form of decorum. We were outside, and anyone could be taken video. "Why have you suddenly become so serious? I mean, you never liked hanging out with us, but this is weird. You look like you have been through hell." Turner replied I am sure the whole bar had heard my plight. "Why do

Zyrielle's POV. My phone continued buzzing and I decided to give thought to it. Rain was yet to return, so I figured that he could be the only one calling, probably to tell me that he would stay out later than usual. Color me shocked when I saw a video of him hugging Cheryl, from the look of things they seemed pretty intimate. 'Wow.' I mouthed.I chuckled softly. What was I even expecting in the first place from their family? They had a way of piercing one's heart when one was starting to rely on them. This was one of the reasons I didn't want to trust him in the first place. I knew that he was too good to be true. I was feeling like a blatant fool who saw that there was a pit yet went ahead blind through. How could I have been so stupid not to spot the fact that he was only just trying to take advantage of me? I was so foolish not to understand how this worked and now I felt like annihilating myself. This was why he decided not to pick my calls when I tried to reach him because

Zyrielle's POV. I relished the look of naked shock in Freya's eyes. She imagined that she was being laid off. Well it was no longer an imagination, instead it was a punishment for her disobedience to me. I had never prided myself in wanting to see someone gone but this lady had pushed me beyond my breaking point. Rain glowered at her and I could never have been so proud in my entire life of seeing someone reap the consequences of their actions. "you have the guts to speak to my wife in a condescending manner, because I have decided not to send you away just yet. That is very alarming and I need to put an end to it before you get out of hand. I will not condone any form of disrespect to the woman I call my wife no matter who is involved. You better get your things before I finally descend on you." Rain warned her. I whistled pettily because she was not expecting this and it was the same with me. Never had I imagined that Rain would take sides with me. I was afraid that he was go

Rain's POV.I didn't understand what was wrong with her. I mean I did, but right now I was feeling like I was stupid. She already had a bias in her mind and was trying to project it on me which I would dispel with every last breath I have. I saw the disbelief in her eyes despite saying that she wanted an answer, she wasn't actually ready for one. How do I convince such a person who is so sure that I was cheating on her? Coupled with Freya's misbehavior, it felt like just going somewhere to relax and get rid of everything that has been surrounding us since the beginning of our relationship. I was considering letting her go and finding pleasure in whatever she wanted to. It didn't mean that I wouldn't support her in getting revenge and her mother's company if need be. Lucas was going to pay dearly for wronging her but it didn't have to necessarily be in the context of marriage. She was acting as though it was forced, I thought that with everything that I had shown to her, she would a

Zyrielle's POV."Since we are still going back and forth and I understand the place of people trying to get to the bottom of an issue, I just don't want to be disappointed for how long this is going to last and when I can get my revenge. I will be seeing the doctor this week and would not want you to come with me." I told him. This was me trying to cut off things without even moving so fast. He had a lot of things to say to me but was probably hiding because he didn't want to hurt my feelings and that told me that there was more to what he was saying. "You are not still getting my point, Zyrielle. I am not tired of being in your life. I am only tired of being strung along, not only that, you have never shown any form of likeness to me. I am only human and deserve the best out of life. I am not forcing you to tell me that you love me, but I have to know that it is in the works. Right now I am thoroughly confused and don't even know what else to do." Rain's eyes widened as he tried t

Zyrielle's POV. Upon my arrival at the hospital I was easily attended to because they had known me now. She was smiling at me lovingly and I began to wonder why she was so kind to me."The doctor says that you should come to his office the minute you arrive but he is performing ward rounds so it might not be possible as we think." She explained to me and I nodded. I had my reason for coming here. If there is any problem I would be free to talk to him more than anyone else in the world. "That is really thoughtful of you, I would appreciate it if I could meet him personally." I told her and she smiled. They were properly trained, and I admired the way she was going about her duty with smiles here and there. I had to believe that she was prepared for this post. "Thank you so much for your time." She mentioned before going back to her work. She spoke to one of her colleagues and the lady looked at me. I guessed that they had told each other something and wanted to ensure that it worke

Zyrielle’s office was filled with the warm afternoon sunlight, showering a soft glow on the sleek furniture and the framed photographs that hung on the walls. She stood by the window, sipping her coffee as she gazed out at the bustling street below her. It was hard to believe how much her life had changed. Her fashion business had blossomed into one the biggest brands in Wisconsin; you couldn't even walk into a boutique without seeing her clothes. Every major fashion house in the country seemed to want a piece of her, a lot of them offering a large amount of money to have her relocate. She had declined their offers of course. Moving out of Wisconsin wasn’t part of her plan, this place had become her home. Not just that, it was also a matter of pride. She built this business with her bare hands and she'd be damned before she gave it away to strangers. She placed her cup down and walked over to a dress form draped in one of her latest designs. Running her fingers over the delicate embro

Author's POV.The sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Zyrielle’s studio, painting the room in golden light. The soft hum of her sewing machine filled the air, a comforting rhythm that steadied her nerves. She stood back from the mannequin, her fingers trailing over the fabric of her latest creation. The dress was a masterpiece, an accumulation of everything she had learned and done to get to this point. Her fashion business was finally taking off, and every day looked better than the last. Orders flooded in, collaborations were just on the horizon, and she felt, for the first time in years, that she was finally making progress. And yet, a strange unease simmered beneath all of it.Zyrielle shook her head and glanced at the clock. “Maybe I just need some fresh air,” she muttered, grabbing her bag and stepping outside. The city greeted her with its usual hustle and bustle vibe. The chatter of pedestrians, the distant honking of cars, the scent of freshly baked pastr

Rain's POVLife had a funny way of stitching moments together—victory, love, and the occasional unexpected twist. Today was a day stitched in gold. As I stood in the kitchen, holding a steaming mug of coffee, my thoughts drifted to the woman sleeping upstairs. Zyrielle. My wife, my anchor, the woman I loved more than life itself. The mere thought of her brought a smile to my face. After everything we’d been through, the surgeries, the sleepless nights, the worry—I could finally breathe again. She was here, alive, and so were our babies. Life felt like it was finally clicking into place, and I swore to myself that nothing would stop me from building the future I’d dreamed of.As I sipped my coffee, my phone flared up on the counter. I reached to pick it up, barely glancing at the screen before answering.“Rain Lark,” I responded, giving my new surname, whilst leaning against the counter.“Mr. Lark!” an excited voice burst through the line. “I have fantastic news! Zyrielle’s PovI felt my toes curl up slowly against my cold feet as I gained consciousness. The first thing that came to my senses was the crisp sheets of the hospital bed and the very strong stench of antiseptic.I thought I had gotten accustomed to it by now but it striked me each time.I groaned a little as I tried to lift myself to sit up with my eyes glued shut. My body still ached all over, but I was certainly feeling more energized. For the first time in what felt like weeks, I wasn't drowning in absolute pain.Instead, I felt— alive. My eyes finally fluttered open, and the first thing I saw was Rain, sitting by my side in a cushioned chair. His deep blue eyes were focused on me, his expression a mix of relief and hesitation. He wasn’t touching me, though, just sitting there like he didn’t know what to do with himself.I found that oddly cute.“Rain,” I croaked out, my voice weak but steady. I needed something to drink, I couldn't understand why my throat felt so dry.His li

Zyrielle's POV. "I want you to tell me if you feel any pains in your body." The doctor told me just before I was taken into the theater. I took a deep breath and watched my husband shake at the thought of me going inside the machine and being operated on. It was a 50/50 chance of survival and we knew what this meant. One of us wasn't going to come out alive and I hope that it wasn't my kids. "Can I speak to my husband before I go in?" I responded instead and Rain jumped at my side immediately. I had never seen him this angry in my entire life and out of his wits. If there was a way he could take away the pain from me and inflict himself instead, he would have done it, and my heart went out to him. Marcus also watched us from the glass mirror and acted as a moral support but it wasn't going to be enough to quench the way my husband felt about this situation. I was certain that he would punch the doctor if it ended up not going well. "I need you to be strong for me and the kids. We

Rain's POV“Please you have to try”“I understand, Mr. Rain, but my hands are tied. I can't take on a case like this. I'm sorry.” With that, the call ended, and I clutched the phone tightly in my palm. This couldn’t be it. That was the third hospital to refuse to operate on her but I wasn't giving up, not when her life was in danger.I kept scrolling through the endless list of contacts. Each name blurred together, none offering the solution I desperately searched for.“Rain,” my father’s voice broke through the haze, he was also searching for a doctor who could help me. I was glad for his support because I couldn't do this alone. “Any luck?” He questioned, and I shook my head, defeated.“We’re running out of options, I can’t lose her,” I murmured in a pleading tone. “She’s everything to me, my life will be meaningless without her in it”“We won’t have faith,” he assured, his tone firm, though his eyes betrayed his doubts. “I’ve reached out to my network and there's someone who might

Zyrielle's pov.My head throbbed badly as I regained consciousness; slowly, I blinked back, forcing my eyelids open to the ceiling of the hospital wards. The room was quiet except for the soft beep of the machine and footsteps. I angled my head spotting Rain pacing in the room.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side made me wince, forcing me to lie back down. "Rain... I called out barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to catch his attention. He froze mid-step, his broad shoulders tense as he turned toward me."You're awake," he murmured rushing to my side. "Finally.""Finally?" I repeated, bewildered. "What do you mean, finally? What happened? How did I end up here?"He didn’t immediately answer, his eyes scanning me as though checking for any signs of injury. His jaw was tight, and for a moment, he hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. Then, he let out a low breath, stepping closer to the bed."How are you feeling?" The question came out soft, almost too gen

I tried to move and tried to get away but I couldn't move.I was trapped.“Goodbye, Zyrielle,” she sneered, raising the knife and stabbing me right in the heart.“No!” I cried, jolting awake. My breathing ragged and I was sweating profusely.Instinctively, my arm clutched my chest, feeling my heart this rapidly; I wasn't injured. It was just a dream yet why did it feel so real?I felt a nudge by my side and I turned sharply, finding Rain half awake beside me. His arm was draped over his forehead, his brows furrowed even in rest. Reaching out, I touched his shoulder, my fingers trembling."Rain," I whispered, my voice cracking. He stirred, blinking slowly before turning his head to look at me. "Hey, you good?" He asked, rubbing his eyes, I could tell he was exhausted and needed to sleep, but this was important."She was here," I murmured, barely able to get the words ou

Zyrielle's POV.I shifted uncomfortably in my spot watching Rain clench and unclench his hands on the steering wheel. The tension between us was so palpable you could slice a knife through it, I didn't like the silence between us. I know he was worried still it didn't feel right."You're too quiet," I finally ventured, my voice cutting through the stillness like glass breaking. "Stop overthinking. It’s going to be fine."Rain’s jaw tightened, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he kept driving. "When we find her it will be fine," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper."Do you have any support on this? Were you able to convince them to help us out or are you trying to play the hero and do this alone?"For a while, he didn't reply, and I could tell he was battling with whether he should tell the truth or not."I’ve got a few," he finally admitted, his voice flat, devoid of the confidence I’d hoped to hear."A few?" My heart raced. "Rain, this isn’t some game. Janet’s not going t
