Zyrielle's POV

I plopped on the settee as she had suggested and smiled at the beautiful aging woman. She was a beau in her days I could tell from the length of her hair and the richness. Not a lot of people maintained such exquisite charm till this age.

"Might I say before you begin that you are one of the most beautiful people I have come across in a long while," I said with a smile that could soften her up.

She began to laugh at me, but I caught a pretty blush sitting on her cheeks as she probably thought of my words. "It's been long since anyone has called me beautiful. Thank you for being so sweet." She praised me yet her sadness took over instantly.

I would never understand how someone as beautiful as this would be going through such pain, and no one would deem it fit to wipe it away. Why would they even act this way to her in the first place? She looked like a very sweet woman and that was why Rain respected her.

"Do not pick up my son's mannerisms. You are already dissectin

Rain's POV.The speed with which my mother jumped back told me exactly what had transpired between both of them. It simply meant that she was gossiping about me and was not even ashamed to do that. "Rain... I was only making your wife understand certain things about you, it wasn't like I was doing anything bad. Why do you look angry? I told your father that this was supposed to be a seamless dinner and the most eventful in a long while but what did he go ahead to do? Probably provoked you didn't he?" Her face turned grim and I started to feel bad for her. She didn't need to stress herself over something beyond her control. My father's actions were only due to what he had heard about my wife and I didn't give two cents about it. His countenance wasn't going to change how I felt about her not even in the least. I wasn't also going to tell them how Cheryl had cornered me in the kitchen just a few minutes ago when I went to look for Zyrielle. "Why are both of you hiding in here when yo

Zyrielle's POV.I grinned in self-satisfaction after Rain had finished plowing through my field."I hope your family does not get a whiff of this because I would be so embarrassed." I smiled at him before buttoning my shirt. This family was perceptive so I was sure that they would know. Yet, I was also learning from him not to care about people's opinions as long as it was not hurting anyone and I had a clear conscience. "That was explosive... I would like to try that again someday." He threw me a casual wink before walking towards me in a predatory mode and licking his lips like he was seeing his last meal. "You are incorrigible. Didn't you just have your fill a few minutes ago?" I demanded from him. He's snorted. "That was then, I want you now. What do you say? We go another round and see what we can come up with?" He said suggestively before unbuttoning my shirt. He stroke the top of my boobs, causing me to have a weird sensation running through my entire body. I had never felt

Zyrielle's POV. Sheer gold overlaid the necklace and my focus remained on the item. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life, and quite frankly, I was amazed. "This is too expensive. You cannot expect me to take this from you. How do I even start? People would want to rob me on the way." I said all in a rush. He snorted at my complaints and shook his head dismissively. "You should be more happy that you have something tangible going on for you. I do not care about what anyone says about how much gold I am gifting to my wife. You have never asked me for something and the one minute I want to give you stuff, you are worried about what people are going to say? Sometimes I wonder if I should be worried about you." He said, quickly contorting into anger. "I didn't mean that I did not appreciate it. It's just too darn expensive and I fear that on one of my trips to the doctor, I could be waylaid, you know?" I replied and he shook his head. "These people are inconsequentia

Zyrielle's POV.This was the most ridiculous excuse I had heard in my entire life, but how could I even fault her for stating the obvious and trying to deflect from her mistake? It would have been better if she had just admitted to waiting instead of trying to take people for a fool. She didn't realize that this family didn't spare anyone. As long as they knew the truth, they were going to be singing at the top of their voices without caring how anyone felt. "Please spare me the excuses, Cheryl. You didn't cook this the appropriate way don't try to blame anyone for your mishaps. We have to order something else or everyone goes to dinner hungry. Most of us refused to eat because without grandma was going to help with dinner as usual." The lady fired at Cheryl, who looked like she wanted to enter into the ground. Her lovely partner refused to act like he even saw what was happening to her. This couldn't be Rain. He would have shut them up instantly, but I guess it was their loss, not

Zyrielle's POV.I followed Marcus into his study while gazing around and hoping that he was not about to lambast me over something I didn't do. "Have a seat." He instructed which I obeyed instantly. He gave off this principal vibe which made everyone who came in contact with him automatically feel sober. My eyes were automatically fixated on him waiting to see his next action. Rain had gone to answer the door, probably for the person who was invited. "You might be wondering why I called you here. It is simply because I want to talk to you about something very important to me, and I hope you won't stop me." He said. I didn't know what to expect so I maintained a calm composure, watching carefully to hear his side of things. "I have no expectations so you are safe, sir," I replied before sitting. "I want to know what your intentions are for my son. You were once married to my grandson, and all of a sudden, you switched sides towards him. I know that you might probably not see past

Zyrielle's POV.The conversation died a natural death when he realized that he couldn't do anything to make me bow to his whims. Marcus had nothing on me so I was not going to give him the power to walk over me. "Glad to see that you can stand up for yourself. I felt my son was going to marry another spineless lady who would, for the fear of not offending me, take whatever I said into consideration. That would have been the perfect red flag and I would have disqualified her instantly." He turned it around I smiled at his brainy attempt but was not going to take it seriously anymore. Some people refused to give respect simply because they felt they were better than others, and it was my duty to teach them that even if sometimes things were true, they still had to learn how to deal with every kind of person, no matter their background. I wasn't going to prove that I gave my company over to Lucas because Lucas was even doing a poor job of handling it. It was doing better under my contr

Zyrielle's POV.Dinner went well the previous night because no one wanted to come downstairs again after the first ordeal. I was happy anyway that I didn't have to face the clan and start discussing something that was probably against my will. They were going to try and stop me from doing what I should but I didn't want to give them that chance. If I allowed it, I would have to continue for a very long time which was something that I didn't want at all. “Are you up for breakfast with the family or are you going to stay here all day?” Rain inquired from me. I shook my head because I didn't even know the answer to pick. I was tired and also weak from the stress of the previous night. I squinted as the morning sun filtered into my eyes when he opened the windows. “Arrgh. It's already morning.” I complained. I just wanted to hide myself under the duvet and not have to think about anyone or anything until it was time for me to leave. Rain's chuckle made me feel warm inside and I smile

Zyrielle's POV. “Oooh, this looks pretty. You can wear this, it'll bring out your eyes.” Rain suggested it when I showed him a yellow sundress. “Are you sure it's because it brings tears to my eyes or because you love it so much and want me to wear it?” I inquired from him, catching on easily. I was beginning to understand him fairly well and knew when he was only teasing. That man was insatiable. “What if it's a mixture? I love the dress and I think it's going to bring out your eyes. I love the fact that it shows a little bit of flesh for everyone to see how beautiful you are, but also a warning for them not to come close so that they don't get burnt. You are like a wildflower whom they can only hope to have but would never enter into their nests.” “You are suddenly turning philosophical. I can imagine what the news is going to sound like. A business tycoon abandoning his first career and turning into a poet all because of a woman's dress.” I wrote In the air. Rain smiled softl

Zyrielle’s office was filled with the warm afternoon sunlight, showering a soft glow on the sleek furniture and the framed photographs that hung on the walls. She stood by the window, sipping her coffee as she gazed out at the bustling street below her. It was hard to believe how much her life had changed. Her fashion business had blossomed into one the biggest brands in Wisconsin; you couldn't even walk into a boutique without seeing her clothes. Every major fashion house in the country seemed to want a piece of her, a lot of them offering a large amount of money to have her relocate. She had declined their offers of course. Moving out of Wisconsin wasn’t part of her plan, this place had become her home. Not just that, it was also a matter of pride. She built this business with her bare hands and she'd be damned before she gave it away to strangers. She placed her cup down and walked over to a dress form draped in one of her latest designs. Running her fingers over the delicate embro

Author's POV.The sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Zyrielle’s studio, painting the room in golden light. The soft hum of her sewing machine filled the air, a comforting rhythm that steadied her nerves. She stood back from the mannequin, her fingers trailing over the fabric of her latest creation. The dress was a masterpiece, an accumulation of everything she had learned and done to get to this point. Her fashion business was finally taking off, and every day looked better than the last. Orders flooded in, collaborations were just on the horizon, and she felt, for the first time in years, that she was finally making progress. And yet, a strange unease simmered beneath all of it.Zyrielle shook her head and glanced at the clock. “Maybe I just need some fresh air,” she muttered, grabbing her bag and stepping outside. The city greeted her with its usual hustle and bustle vibe. The chatter of pedestrians, the distant honking of cars, the scent of freshly baked pastr

Rain's POVLife had a funny way of stitching moments together—victory, love, and the occasional unexpected twist. Today was a day stitched in gold. As I stood in the kitchen, holding a steaming mug of coffee, my thoughts drifted to the woman sleeping upstairs. Zyrielle. My wife, my anchor, the woman I loved more than life itself. The mere thought of her brought a smile to my face. After everything we’d been through, the surgeries, the sleepless nights, the worry—I could finally breathe again. She was here, alive, and so were our babies. Life felt like it was finally clicking into place, and I swore to myself that nothing would stop me from building the future I’d dreamed of.As I sipped my coffee, my phone flared up on the counter. I reached to pick it up, barely glancing at the screen before answering.“Rain Lark,” I responded, giving my new surname, whilst leaning against the counter.“Mr. Lark!” an excited voice burst through the line. “I have fantastic news! Zyrielle’s PovI felt my toes curl up slowly against my cold feet as I gained consciousness. The first thing that came to my senses was the crisp sheets of the hospital bed and the very strong stench of antiseptic.I thought I had gotten accustomed to it by now but it striked me each time.I groaned a little as I tried to lift myself to sit up with my eyes glued shut. My body still ached all over, but I was certainly feeling more energized. For the first time in what felt like weeks, I wasn't drowning in absolute pain.Instead, I felt— alive. My eyes finally fluttered open, and the first thing I saw was Rain, sitting by my side in a cushioned chair. His deep blue eyes were focused on me, his expression a mix of relief and hesitation. He wasn’t touching me, though, just sitting there like he didn’t know what to do with himself.I found that oddly cute.“Rain,” I croaked out, my voice weak but steady. I needed something to drink, I couldn't understand why my throat felt so dry.His li

Zyrielle's POV. "I want you to tell me if you feel any pains in your body." The doctor told me just before I was taken into the theater. I took a deep breath and watched my husband shake at the thought of me going inside the machine and being operated on. It was a 50/50 chance of survival and we knew what this meant. One of us wasn't going to come out alive and I hope that it wasn't my kids. "Can I speak to my husband before I go in?" I responded instead and Rain jumped at my side immediately. I had never seen him this angry in my entire life and out of his wits. If there was a way he could take away the pain from me and inflict himself instead, he would have done it, and my heart went out to him. Marcus also watched us from the glass mirror and acted as a moral support but it wasn't going to be enough to quench the way my husband felt about this situation. I was certain that he would punch the doctor if it ended up not going well. "I need you to be strong for me and the kids. We

Rain's POV“Please you have to try”“I understand, Mr. Rain, but my hands are tied. I can't take on a case like this. I'm sorry.” With that, the call ended, and I clutched the phone tightly in my palm. This couldn’t be it. That was the third hospital to refuse to operate on her but I wasn't giving up, not when her life was in danger.I kept scrolling through the endless list of contacts. Each name blurred together, none offering the solution I desperately searched for.“Rain,” my father’s voice broke through the haze, he was also searching for a doctor who could help me. I was glad for his support because I couldn't do this alone. “Any luck?” He questioned, and I shook my head, defeated.“We’re running out of options, I can’t lose her,” I murmured in a pleading tone. “She’s everything to me, my life will be meaningless without her in it”“We won’t have faith,” he assured, his tone firm, though his eyes betrayed his doubts. “I’ve reached out to my network and there's someone who might

Zyrielle's pov.My head throbbed badly as I regained consciousness; slowly, I blinked back, forcing my eyelids open to the ceiling of the hospital wards. The room was quiet except for the soft beep of the machine and footsteps. I angled my head spotting Rain pacing in the room.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side made me wince, forcing me to lie back down. "Rain... I called out barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to catch his attention. He froze mid-step, his broad shoulders tense as he turned toward me."You're awake," he murmured rushing to my side. "Finally.""Finally?" I repeated, bewildered. "What do you mean, finally? What happened? How did I end up here?"He didn’t immediately answer, his eyes scanning me as though checking for any signs of injury. His jaw was tight, and for a moment, he hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. Then, he let out a low breath, stepping closer to the bed."How are you feeling?" The question came out soft, almost too gen

Zyrielle's pov. No!“No, you're gone”“You wish you could get rid of me that easily.” She gained a knife in her hand. I tried to move and tried to get away but I couldn't move.I was trapped.“Goodbye, Zyrielle,” she sneered, raising the knife and stabbing me right in the heart.“No!” I cried, jolting awake. My breathing ragged and I was sweating profusely.Instinctively, my arm clutched my chest, feeling my heart this rapidly; I wasn't injured. It was just a dream yet why did it feel so real?I felt a nudge by my side and I turned sharply, finding Rain half awake beside me. His arm was draped over his forehead, his brows furrowed even in rest. Reaching out, I touched his shoulder, my fingers trembling."Rain," I whispered, my voice cracking. He stirred, blinking slowly before turning his head to look at me. "Hey, you good?" He asked, rubbing his eyes, I could tell he was exhausted and needed to sleep, but this was important."She was here," I murmured, barely able to get the words ou

Zyrielle's POV.I shifted uncomfortably in my spot watching Rain clench and unclench his hands on the steering wheel. The tension between us was so palpable you could slice a knife through it, I didn't like the silence between us. I know he was worried still it didn't feel right."You're too quiet," I finally ventured, my voice cutting through the stillness like glass breaking. "Stop overthinking. It’s going to be fine."Rain’s jaw tightened, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he kept driving. "When we find her it will be fine," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper."Do you have any support on this? Were you able to convince them to help us out or are you trying to play the hero and do this alone?"For a while, he didn't reply, and I could tell he was battling with whether he should tell the truth or not."I’ve got a few," he finally admitted, his voice flat, devoid of the confidence I’d hoped to hear."A few?" My heart raced. "Rain, this isn’t some game. Janet’s not going t
