I walked into the packhouse with Willow's hand in mine when I the laughter from the kitchen welcomed us. She's here. Entering the kitchen, I found my mother, Malakhi, and Amanah having a blast together, as if they had always been the closest.
Amanah looked very different from when she left the house. She had changed into an oversized hoodie and a pair of tights. She sat beside Malakhi, facing my mother as she talked to them.
Was she wearing Malakhi's hoodie? That wasn't the point, and I had been an ass to let her leave the house crying.
“Oh, hi there,” my mother said sweetly, raising her mug to her lips.
Shit. “I’m going to kill you,” she said through the mind link, and I smiled as I waved my hand. Of course, I'm in trouble again.
“Hi, everyone,” I greeted softly, and it seemed my presence had turned the room grim. Amanah just stared at us before turning around to face my mother.
“Hey,” Malakhi bit out and faced away as well.
“Oh, come on, don’t tell me you’re mad too?” I asked him through the link, and he glanced at me, rolling his eyes.
“Extremely.”
“You don’t even know the whole story,” I expressed, and he turned around to face me again and shook his head.
“I don’t need to know the story, alpha,” he bit as he got up and walked toward the fridge. And Amanah looked around the room before she whispered softly under her breath,
"They were doing the mind link talking thing again," she breathed before she clapped her hands and looked at my mom. “So, Ma. What were you saying about the tea?” Amanah asked my mother, and I cocked my head to the side.
“Since when do you call her Ma?” I asked as I sat down before them with Willow. Amanah turned her body slightly away from us.
I could literally feel her anger radiating off her.
“Since I told her to. She’s my child now,” my mother said as a matter of fact, basically telling me to shut up.
“I thought only pack members were allowed to be here,” Willow spoke softly, and Amanah sighed as she rested her chin on her palm and stared at Willow.
“Last I checked, it was my house, and I can have whoever I want here, Willow. I can also kick people out,” my mother smiled, which didn’t sit well with me.
My mother already favoured Amanah over Willow because she was carrying my child. She knew Willow for much longer.
“Mom,” I said, and she continued talking.
“And besides, my Amanah carries my grandchild. Of course, I’ll always want her here,” she held her face, and Amanah leaned into my mother, smiling.
“Malakhi and I have to go now,” she said, standing up, and Malakhi helped her.
“Oh yes, I forgot about that. Make sure you get everything you need, okay?”
“I will.”
“And please, watch out for Malakhi. He always gets excited there and won’t come back quickly,” my mother said, and Malakhi gasped.
“Mom! That is not true,” he said, touching his chest, and she giggled.
“Where are they going?” I asked; it seemed they kept discussing their plans without consulting with me first.
“Earth,” my mother said without sparing me a glance. Why was she so mean? “Since you won’t take her, Malakhi offered to, and I agreed,” she crossed her arms over her chest. Daring me to dispute her decision.
“Nobody told me about that; I should be informed if crossing over of realms is going to happen and—”
“You told her to take herself home, so you already knew about the crossover. Don’t pretend as if you didn’t know.”
“But—”
“If you will excuse all of us, we have stuff to do. I have to prepare a room for Amanah, and they need to go.”
“Prepare a room? What for?” I asked, standing up, and my mother walked closer to me, obviously showing me she wasn’t intimidated.
“Amanah will be staying with me since you don’t want her there,” she raised her head, challenging me. I looked at Amanah, and she stared at us with soul-less eyes.
“I’m Alpha,” I said, and my mother scoffed.
“Then act like it,” she whispered, walking away. “Amanah, stay with me until you get your act together!”
“Orion won’t allow that!” I said to her, and my mother cocked her head to the side.
“Then why isn’t he saying anything?” I wasn’t able to respond. Lately, Orion and I hadn't been on the same page. He’d been very disobedient and rude. He wouldn't even come out to stretch; that was how pissed he had been at me. When he does reveal himself, he always wipes my memories of whatever he did when he did.
It felt like I was living with a totally different person than when I was growing up with him. I saw the black square portal open with Amanah and Malakhi’s backs to us.
“Woah, that’s so cool,” she said to Malakhi, smiling.
“You’ll like it even more in there,” he said. “After you,” Amanah stared at him with curious eyes. “There’s nothing bad, come on.”
“No way, we go in together at the same time. Hold my hand,” she said to him as she put out her hand for him; he didn’t hesitate in holding her hand; he didn’t even think about it. I clenched my jaw as I watched them enter the portal together, and they smiled at each other.
She was having her first portal experience with another man.
“Be sure to come back on time for dinner, okay!”
“Yes, Mom!” The portal closed, and my mother looked at me and sighed. She was annoyed.
“Willow, I’m quite sure there’s training today?” My mom slightly tilted her head, and Willow stood up.
“Uhm, Miall said it’s alright if I don’t go,” Willow stood next to me, and my mother smiled, squinting her eyes.
“Mhh, Miall says a lot of things without thinking. You’re not Luna yet, so training grounds you go,” my mom smiled, and Willow wavered. “Miall won’t save you from this one.”
“It’s alright, you should go,” I said, kissing her cheek.
“I’ll see you later?” I nodded, and she smiled. She looked at my mom and bowed before leaving the house. My mom stared at me before she groaned and walked away.
“Was that necessary?” I asked as I followed behind her. She ignored me as she opened an empty room and removed the covers from the bed. “Mom?”
“What?”
“Did you have to be that mean to Willow?” I asked her, and she looked at me before laughing and shook her head.
“I was mean to Willow by telling her to go train because she isn’t Luna yet? That was mean?”
“Yes,” I said, and she laughed, putting her hands on her waist.
“Willow isn’t Luna. Just because she’s your girlfriend doesn’t mean she should be treated any special way. She was born a wolf, and she knows our rules and regulations. Why should she be given a free pass for sleeping with the Alpha?” She asked distastefully.
“That isn’t the case—”
“Oh? Then what is the case?”
“Why are you so angry at me?” I asked her, and she rolled her eyes, whispering how dense I could be under her breath.
“You told Amanah to take herself home. You were unreasonably rude to her,” she said softly, her eyes looking saddened.
“You don’t know the whole story, Mom.”
“All she did was stop you from kissing Willow.” How much did she know?
“She was rude to Willow.”
“She only asked who she was, and Willow lunged at her despite the fact of knowing she was pregnant. You told her she is only here because of Orion, and you don’t want her here!”
“Mom, how can you choose sides? I'm your son!”
“Son? Son, you say?” My mom questioned, smiling before shaking her head.
“My son would never make someone feel unwanted. He would understand what that girl is going through even though she hides it so well. She’s on a foreign planet, with a species different from hers, and she’s pregnant with your child, Miall, not Orion’s, but yours!" she said in one breath, looking away and pressing her hands on her hips.
"Mom—"
"My son would take responsibility and stop blaming everyone else around him. If you’re still unable to see your faults,” she looked deeply disappointed as she said this. Shaking her head, the words she said next shattered me.
“Then perhaps you aren’t fit to be Alpha just yet.”
“This is your place?” Malakhi asked as he looked around my small apartment. “It’s tiny,” he grimaced, and I threw a pillow at him.“Not all of us are friends with royalty,” I said, and Malakhi laughed. “Now help me pack,” I stood on my toes, trying to reach for my bag, but of course, with his help, I was easily handed my bag. He was handy.“Do you promise to show me around once we’re done?” He asked with a puppy dog look, and I rolled my eyes, pushing him away from me. Nyleve was right, this man was a sucker for Earth.“Only if you help me, which you are not doing,” I took out my clothes from the closet, and he chuckled as he helped me pack up some stuff. Malakhi was a pretty funny person, or wolf, should I say. After he found me crying outside, which was very dramatic, he took me to the Pack House, where Nyleve lived. She was kind enough to give me her hoodie and pants. While we sat together, they made me feel better after the whole shit show with Miall and his girlfriend, whose na
"How many days?" I tilted my head to the side, and Frank sighed as he let me go.“Amanah, three days! Without texting me, calling or emailing me! Do you have any idea how worried I was?”“It can’t be a week. I’m pretty sure I saw you just yesterday when you let me knock off early,” I said, and Frank looked surprised. “Are you sure you’re okay?” I asked as I put my hand on his forehead.“I’m too sober for this,” he raised his hands as he walked towards the bar. “She’s been gone for three days and then asks if I’m okay,” he muttered. Malakhi tapped on my shoulder, and I turned to look at him.“Time works differently on Nioz. The days are longer there; you have been gone for three days, Ama,” he spoke softly, and I parted my lips as I stared at him, shocked. What the heck? Three days was not equal to just a few hours. How was this possible? But then again, I had just crossed the realm and was pregnant by a wolf.“Frank,” I spoke softly as I approached the bar. “Do you need me to work for
“Why do you smell like another man?”“Is that what you seriously came here for?” I asked him as I picked up the pillow and climbed onto the bed. Crap, and to think I was ready to drop my chemise for him.“No, I came to see you, but I can smell him on you,” he said, his teeth slowly inching out.“Are you trying to scare me into answering you?” I crossed my arms over my chest. “And I bathed; how much of a wolf can you be?” I asked.“I’m sorry, but I am not a wolf. I told you I am a Lycan, nothing like that weak excuse of a beast,” he grumbled, and I laughed.Orion was funny. During the time I spent with him on the first day, he wouldn’t stop going on and on about how powerful he was and how lucky I should feel that he chose me.Chose me to be miserable!“So you admit they are beasts?” I giggled, and he looked at me with a shrug.“Have you seen how ugly they are? That’s why I refuse to ever take on that form,” he said arrogantly yet proudly.“I think they’re cute, probably nice to hug,” I
Miall“Sit,” an asshole? She thought I was being an asshole? Who does she think she is talking to me like that? I watched her as she pulled out the chair for me and pointed at it without looking at me, and yet I felt compelled to listen to her.I skipped the chair she had pulled out for me, and she smiled. I sat down and crossed my arms over my chest. She giggled and covered her lips; my eyes immediately looked at them, and I sighed, annoyed.“You’re such a big baby,” she laughed, and my mother joined her.“He is my big baby boy,” she kissed my cheek, and I groaned, wiping my face.“Mom!” I whined, and Amanah laughed even harder. “And I’m an Alpha, not a baby,” I said, and Amanah nodded her head.“Yeah, a baby alpha,” she mocked, and they laughed even harder. It was nice listening to them laugh instead of complaining; ever since she got here, I didn’t feel so guilty.“Whatever, let's just eat,” I said, grabbing my fork, and Amanah stopped my hand.“Don’t you guys say grace?” She asked,
AmanahI sat on the couch, waiting for Miall to arrive. My knees bobbed up and down as I sat on my hands bored. Nyleve couldn't wait with me because she had a pack meeting to attend, which Miall could be excused for because she was there. This packhouse was weird; it was divided into two sections: Nyleve’s house and the literal packhouse. She said she wanted it that way because then she would be able to have access to everyone who would need her. She was such a mother to everyone, and it was cute.“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting long?” Miall asked as he walked in, looking frustrated already. What did I do?“No?” I responded, getting up. I smoothed down my skirt and put my arms behind my back, looking up at him. “Mom went to the pack meeting,” I told him as he looked around.“Oh, the pack meeting,” he whispered, threading his fingers through his hair. “I totally forgot about that.” Whoopsy-daisy.“She said she would fill in for you,” I said slowly, but this was awkward. Just because I
“You don’t like him?” I asked her, and she shook her head.“No, I love him, but ever since he started hanging out with—” she leaned down to my ear and whispered, “—Willow, he’s been unbearable,” I thought they were like teenage sweethearts. I guess it wasn’t only Nyleve and Malakhi who saw it. “And I’m assuming he’s the reason you were crying?” she asked, looking sorry.“It is what it is,” I shrugged, and she shook her head. “I’ll get over it soon.”“You will because you just made a new friend,” she pointed to herself. “I’ve been here a bit too long; I’ll see you out there, okay, lovely?”“Okay, Anin,” I laughed and waved as she left me in the restroom alone. I wiped my eyes once more and took a few deep breaths before joining Miall. I sat down with a seat between us, just like he did this morning, and of course, he told me to stop hanging out with Orion, so I guess that also applies to him too.“Are you okay?” He asked, leaning towards me. Maybe I should have left two chairs between u
“Wow,” Nyleve said again for the umpteenth time; she sat on my bed, blushing over the scans. It was the first time I had seen her smile like this.“Would you like to keep that one?” I asked her, and she looked at me surprised. Man, she would be the best grandmother around; she was already so in love.“Really?” The excitement in her eyes was evident, and she jumped a bit on the bed as she turned to face me. She was the cutest! Her grey hair once again was tied in a bun on the top of her head; her royal green gown flared on the bed as she kept me company in my bedroom.“Yeah, you can keep it,” I smiled.“I’m going to frame it!” She said excitedly. “I’m sure Miall is looking at it right now,” she said, looking at the scan.“He didn’t take one,” I told her, and she snapped her head so fast that if she weren't a lycan, she would've accidentally killed herself.“What? Why?”“I don’t know, but he did ask me to stop hanging out with Orion because he’s in love with Willow and whatnot,” I waved
Two weeks passed like a breeze. I hadn’t seen Miall or Orion since then; I was actually surprised that he did respect Miall’s decision. To be honest, life was peaceful now; even though it was kind of crappy in the beginning, I adjusted. I adjusted a bit too well.I put my hands on my waist as I looked at the wall we had just finished painting with Malakhi. Nyleve graciously and excitedly gave me another room for the baby, and I obviously couldn’t wait to start filling it up with everything for my baby’s arrival.Luckily I had Anin, Malakhi and Nyleve to help me with everything; it kind of sucked that Miall couldn’t be here for this, but Nyleve and Malakhi did say that he was working, the only two people in this house that actually got to see him. Whatever, I don't care.“Where do you want me to put these?” Malakhi asked, carrying the rocking chair and the bassinet crib at once. I pointed to the wall closest to the door, and he placed them down.“Ooh, you’re so strong, aren’t you? Carry
