Ian silently tapped his phone before tossing it aside onto the sleek leather seat of the Maybach. He was supposed to be at his hotel, preparing for his wedding which was the next day, but instead, he was on his way back to his house because his assistant forgot all the documents he needed for the shareholder meetings that would be held the day after his wedding. He couldn’t afford to not review everything before time. The culprit was shivering in the passenger’s seat beside the chauffeur, Ian would deal with him later.
His goal was to get all the shares away from the wrong people. His grandfather, Alexander Carter Hills, was the one with the most shares. Everyone else had collectively 5%. The only downside was that in his old age, he started thinking solely with emotions. Leaving such a formidable amount of power in the hands of the old man would be akin to a death sentence for the conglomerate. This made his well-meaning grandfather “the wrong person”.
“Can you drive faster?”, He asked his chauffeur coldly. The man in question nodded wordlessly and sped up, staying just below the speed limit.
Ian pinched his brows, his body felt like each part was being pulled away by a tight string and his suit was feeling too stuffy. He had a bad premonition for some reason, the feeling washing over him like violent waves crashing on the shore.
Sixteen hours. He’d heard the news and had been told by journalists so many times now. It was like the rest of the world doubted Ian could keep track of his impending nuptials and needed to remind him at regular intervals, in case.
The gate to the villa was finally in his sight, he expected the bad feeling to leave since he was at one of his favorite houses again, but it only increased.
“I’ll be back in a minute”. He grit his teeth and stalked up the stairs. He would get the files and get back to the hotel, then endure the long ceremony that everyone and their mother wanted to attend.
He looked around the study and didn’t find it, where did the inept assistant put it? He walked back out and his eyes caught on his open bedroom door. Which of the housekeepers came back here without his knowledge? And why did they leave his door open? Everyone knew it was off-limits. Someone would be fired after the wedding.
The files were resting right on his bedside table, where he left them before he asked his assistant to grab them. Unfortunately, the files weren’t what caught his attention. Oh no, his attention was fully held by the naked man and woman practicing really hard for the award of best pornographers right on his expensive matte black sheets.
He held his breath and understood what the premonition was all about, after all, his instincts were never wrong. There his fiancee was, riding his nemesis like a master equestrian. She always said she was proficient at riding horses, he could certainly see her talent.
Despite rumors constantly circulating that Ian was a heartless monster with no human feelings, the sight was like a dagger to his heart. Theirs wasn’t a love match by any means, but he had at least hoped they would eventually warm up to each other as their marriage progressed. The only word echoing in his mind was betrayal.
If at all she was going to give herself to another man, did it have to be the bastard that wanted his downfall the most? He grit his teeth and held back the torrent of pain that struck him down to his core.
“In my bedroom? There are twelve rooms in this house”, Ian smiled sardonically.
Mava, his cheating fiancee, gasped and looked in his direction before trying to hide her face, like she hadn’t just been moaning compositions that would put Beethoven to shame. She quickly tried to grab his blankets to cover her body. Another emotion coursed through him. Disgust.
Was this the woman he would eventually procreate with?
“Get out”, he said coolly, trying to rein in the sheer wave of negative emotions roiling through him.
“I-I-I can explain! Please let me explain!”, She put both hands together and looked at him through her lashes with tears glistening in her eyes. Ian felt his disgust quadruple. He hated when people tried to gaslight him with tears.
“Get out.”, he said and grabbed the files. He could only hope that Mark, his eternal rival and the man currently butt naked in his bed hadn’t gone through it. Just in case, he’d have to modify it. And also maybe burn the bed, and disinfect the walls. He would tell his assistants to fumigate the house later.
“What a man you are, huh buddie? You want an a-lister actress to get out in public so her career could be ruined?“, Mark taunted with a smile. Who let the idiot in here in the first place? He would sell this villa. It was permeated with useless security guards.
He ignored the man’s words and walked out, it was a smart decision on his own part to never let her get into his study. There was no assurance that she wasn’t actually feeding the other man information.
He was past the threshold of the front door when he was hugged from behind by the woman.
He turned like he was shot and shoved her away. “Don’t touch me”, he said with an irritated glance at the woman who was currently crying a river.
“Y-you never act like you care about me!”, she accused, keeping her face in her hands. The woman's demeanor was one of pitiful vulnerability. Her shoulders slumped and her voice quivered as she spoke, each word laced with a fragile desperation. With a quivering lip and trembling hands, she painted a portrait of someone who had been deeply wounded, both in spirit and in heart.
She was a very good actress.
“The wedding's off”, Ian deadpanned and walked straight into the car.
"What?! You can't call it off!", She shrieked. Ian wasn't aware such a sound could come from a human being.
"I just did", he sat inside and closed the door.
"You can't! My fans will protest! People will boycott your company! Your stocks will fall! Think properly before you mess things up for yourself", she cried with thinly veiled threats. Who did she think she was?
She was the only one with benefits in the entire debacle, she would be Mrs Hills. It would serve to increase her popularity and power. He didn't benefit anything, other than a person to bear an heir, and he was sure he didn't want any member of his bloodline being related to the nasty creature before him.
"We'll deal with it", he rolled up the windows and the chauffeur immediately began to drive away from the villa. He never really liked the villa anyways, he'd demolish it and make a community park.

The moment he stepped into his hotel, he got a call. He checked the caller ID and felt his insides shrivel up.
Ashley popped open the lid of the vodka bottle and overturned it directly into her mouth, letting the fiery burn wash down her grief. She was all alone in her best friend’s home bar. Rita Hills, her best friend, was out of the house for a while, seeing as she had to support her elder brother on his big wedding the next day.Ashley couldn't help but wish she were here with her. There was no possible way she could survive the night without talking to someone. She didn’t know what to feel, there were so many horrible emotions battling for dominance within her.Her phone buzzed on the table behind her where she had dumped it as soon as she got into the house. She ignored it, it would most certainly be her boyfriend Richard, calling to ‘explain’ again, which was really him trying to gaslight her.She had given him her entire heart, constantly cutting off so many of her friends because he felt ‘uncomfortable’ around them. She should have taken that as the first red flag honestly, none of
“Welcome to my boat “, Ian said, taking another sip of the wine in his hand. Rita was never patient enough to wait for the wine to ferment into something stronger, he needed to get drunk. The woman threw him a look. Ian liked to call that look “The Ashley Toma alarmed look”. She had that look on her face a lot. Alongside a host of other looks he was unfortunately familiar with.Rita always used to have the best intuition, her friends were always smart and people that deserved to be in her sphere. The only exception was this one. Ashley Toma. He had investigated her extensively and found that he knew her father, Leo Toma, and the man was always going on and on about how his daughter decided to become a lecturer instead of taking the reins of the family business and how he froze all her accounts of the money from the business till she decided to become useful.Ian knew she was out to dig gold, perhaps she was spurred on by the fact that her father would make her lose out on everything i
Ashley stirred slightly. She felt beckoning warmth around her and nuzzled deeper into it. Her bed had never been this comfortable, she felt she never wanted to leave. She would probably be late to her class today for the first time ever. But she wasn’t leaving this bed, or the arms wound tightly around her.Wait! Arms?!She struggled to open her eyes. A searing headache split through her head immediately. Why did she feel like someone smashed a sledgehammer on her head multiple times? And why was she in bed with Richard? She had made that rule at the beginning of their relationship. She didn’t like that much physical intimacy. She could count the number of times they’ve kissed. It seemed as though she would have to reconsider. She finally opened her eyes successfully, ignoring the throbbing in her skull. Her eyes met with jet-black hair instead of Richard’s light brown. She blinked a few times to ensure that she was seeing right. This was not a trick of the light, neither was the man
Chapter 5Ashley decided to take a bath. From what she knew so far, he needed her to be his wife more than she needed him at all, so she wouldn’t hand over the rod of power to him. The countertops, floors and walls were all marble, at least twenty beauty products lined up on them, with a giant mirror on the ceiling directly above the equally giant bathtub. There were also His-and-Hers sinks with well-lit mirrors, and a separate glass-enclosed shower with rainfall showerheads. Ashley had seen luxury but this was on a different level. She mourned the fact that she couldn’t indulge the whole day in the bathroom alone. It was the nicest bathroom she had ever seen, and she had seen Rita’s bathroom. She roughly shoved the clothes over her head, throwing them on the floor where she stood. Apparently, they had worn pajamas before going to bed, which begged the question of Ian seeing her naked. She ignored the bathtub and headed straight for the showers, fogging up the glass door with steamy
Chapter 6 Ashley twirled in the large mirror, the lights decorating it accentuating the flow of the gold form-fitting gown that made her look like a celebrity on the red carpet. It was her favorite of all the gowns she had worn. She smoothed it down and almost lifted her phone to take a video when she realized she didn’t have her phone in hand. Where the heck was her phone anyways? She didn’t hold classes on saturday but other people could need her. She wandered about the bedroom, if she couldn’t find it in there she would have to get a new one. After about ten minutes of searching, she found it under a pillow. She turned it on, fully expecting to be faced with a million missed calls and messages from Richard. There was none from him. However, she had four missed calls from Chloe, her other best friend, the previous night.Did Richard really not call her? Was he trying to pull some macho move? Did he think she would come crying for an explanation? Deep down, Ashley knew that she wou
Chapter 7 Ian glared at the woman asleep in the car. They had reached the hangar and she was out cold. He hoped she didn’t expect him to carry her like the previous day. He would stop drinking, it was what brought him into this mess.He shook her awake violently and she jerked up with an unholy yell. “I’m not asleep!”, she yelled, her arms flailing and hitting the side of his face. As she tried to get her bearings Ian had the niggling suspicion that the hitting was intentional. Deep breaths, that was what his therapist said he should do whenever he felt like throwing someone off a highway. “Get out”, he seethed, staying resolutely in his seat till she would leave his line of direct sight. She huffed and stepped out, aided by the guard that had been sitting in the passenger’s seat. He saw her slightly swaying till she climbed the stairs to the private jet. Ian debated the pros and cons of mysteriously ending his life as he realized that he had only been around her for eight hours
CHAPTER 8Ian prepared his briefing for the turning point meeting he would be having the next day. He supposed that it was the only thing he could thank the pretty leech – that roped him into being her husband – for. He had lost all hope after his grandfather’s call, but at least now he was married, he was back in the running.“You wouldn’t believe it but the Presley woman posted something backhanded on her page this morning”, Yu Zhen spoke up from beside him. The asian man was scrolling through his phone with a look of annoyance on his face. Ian didn’t really care whatever his ex-fiancee did, it ceased to be his business since he had found another alternative.“Humor me”, he said, not interrupting the proposal he was typing for an investor. He always did his best drafting in the air.“She said and I quote”, he made his voice take on a higher pitch in mockery. “I’m sorry to all my fans, friends and family. I called off my wedding, I can’t live with a man incapable of feeling emotions,
Chapter 9Hours later, Yu Zhen decided that his new best friend was Ashley. Whether or not Ian kept her in his life after their year long contract, he would not betray his brand new best friend. She was so witty, and had so many stories to tell. At some point on the flight they had abandoned the manwha they were reading to delve into times Ashley had purposely paired two people for a project so they would bond in forced proximity. As they walked to the car that would take them to Ian’s main home, he was extra conscious to make sure to stick close to the short woman so no prying eyes could see her. He wasn’t sure she would want news of her marriage spread everywhere before she even had time to come to terms with it.“So, when do I leave?”, Ashley asked Yu Zhen inquisitively, holding her phone in one hand and her gown in the other. She didn’t need the edges of the beautiful golden dress sweeping the floor of Ian’s hangar.“Leave?”, Yu Zhen sent back, sounding genuinely confused. Ashley
The morning sun painted a golden hue over the Hills estate as the mansion's staff prepared for another day in the bustling household. In the heart of the mansion, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sizzle of bacon wafted through the air, signaling the start of a new day.In their private quarters, Laurent and Miniscera, the energetic twins of the De Luca family, were already stirring with the anticipation of breakfast. The rhythmic beats of lively tunes filled the room as they gleefully danced to their individual songs, each lost in their own world of melody.Laurent, with a contagious enthusiasm, moved to the beat of an upbeat pop song that echoed through his headphones. His small feet shuffled across the carpet in a display of youthful exuberance. Miniscera, on the other hand, twirled gracefully to a more melodic tune, her headphones delivering the sweet strains of a classical composition. As the twins descended the grand staircase, their impromptu dance continued. The staff
In the quiet cocoon of the Hills mansion, where grandeur met intimacy, a private library stood as a haven for the family. The scent of aged leather and the hushed rustle of pages greeted anyone who entered, creating an atmosphere of serenity and wisdom. One lazy afternoon, as sunlight filtered through the tall windows, Ashley descended the spiral staircase, her steps muffled by the plush carpeting. A gentle hum of lullabies reached her ears, drawing her towards the library.Upon entering, she was met with a scene that painted a portrait of domestic bliss. Ian, surrounded by towering bookshelves, sat in a hammock that gently swayed between two ornate columns. Cradled against his chest were the twins, their tiny forms cocooned in a shared blanket.Ian, engrossed in a storybook, read aloud in a soft, rhythmic cadence that matched the gentle rocking of the hammock. The twins, their eyes wide with innocent curiosity, listened intently, occasionally reaching out to touch the pages as if try
On an ordinary day that decided it was anything but, Ashley felt the first inklings of labor. Panicking, she called out to Ian, who was busy juggling paperwork in another room."Ian! It's go time!"Ian, startled, sent papers flying in all directions. "What? Now?! They're supposed to come next week!"Ashley, with a mix of urgency and humor, nodded. "Yes, now! The babies are on their way, and they clearly have no regard for our schedule!"Ian, caught in the whirlwind, fumbled to gather the hospital bags. Yu Zhen, who miraculously appeared as if summoned by impending chaos, rushed in."What's happening?""Babies decided to make an early debut," Ashley said with a grin.Yu Zhen, trying to suppress joyous laughter, patted Ian on the back. "Congratulations, Papa Ian. Let's get you all to the hospital."Ian, now in a state of controlled chaos, ushered Ashley to the car with a mix of urgency and care. "Watch your step, Ashley! We've got precious cargo onboard, and it's not just me driving.""
On the day of the vow renewal, the air buzzed with anticipation as Ian and Ashley prepared to reaffirm their commitment to each other. The venue, adorned with elegant flowers and soft lighting, provided the perfect backdrop for the occasion. This event had garnered significant attention, not only because of Ian's stature as a billionaire but also because it marked the first time the public would see Ian's wife without her enigmatic mask.As the ceremony began, close witnesses gathered—Yu Zhen, Rita, Mark, Christopher, Chloe, Hillary, Ashley's mom, Ian's grandfather, and others who had played integral roles in their journey.Ian, dressed in a tailored suit, stood at the altar with a mixture of nerves and genuine emotion. Ashley, radiant in an elegant gown, approached him with a smile that conveyed both joy and a hint of the unexpected journey they had shared. The officiant, capturing the essence of their story, began with a reflection on the unconventional path that led them to this mo
Ian and Ashley, having left the memories of their contract marriage behind, embarked on a new adventure to Las Vegas for pure enjoyment. This time, the atmosphere was light and carefree as they strolled down the vibrant streets. Ian, ever the gentleman, happily carried Ashley's bags filled with newfound treasures from the shops. As they explored the dazzling city, Ashley's eyes widened with awe at the glittering lights and lively energy that surrounded them. The iconic landmarks and famous attractions seemed to come alive with a renewed sense of joy. Ian, noticing Ashley's excitement, couldn't help but smile as he shared in her delight. They visited famous casinos, catching glimpses of extravagant shows and indulging in the lively spirit of the city. The air was filled with laughter, music, and the occasional cheers from those striking it lucky at the slot machines. Ian and Ashley, hand in hand, embraced the thrill of the moment. One of their evenings in Las Vegas, the neon lights of
A week later,In the opulent embrace of his living room, Ian reclined on a plush sofa, his head finding a comfortable haven in Ashley's lap. The soft glow of ambient lighting cast a warm ambiance, and the room itself seemed to exhale luxury. Ashley's gentle fingers traced soothing patterns through Ian's hair, creating an intimate cocoon within the grandeur of their surroundings.Seated nearby, Yu Zhen held a tablet in his hands. His eyes, framed by an air of quiet determination and pure gloating, scanned the digital pages of a news article. The hushed murmurs of his voice began to narrate the unfolding drama—the arrest of Reid Hills, the shameless father that tried to be Ian's new rival, a pretend tycoon whose empire had crumbled under the weight of illegal activities. As Yu Zhen delved into the details, the living room became a theater of intrigue. Ian, nestled in the comforting warmth of Ashley's lap, listened attentively. It was his plot after all, even though he was more attentive
Ian sat at the head of the large round table, cross legged as he looked at the figures on the projector. The employees were the calmest they had ever been, no matter how harsh Ian was outside the room, he was kinder with nice figures. The first time Ian had commandeered a meeting was a time to remember. In a spacious boardroom adorned with polished mahogany furniture and muted hues, a group of employees gathered, their collective unease tangible in the air. At the heart of their apprehension was Ian, a figure revered and feared for his unforgiving scrutiny during meetings. As the employees settled into their seats, the low hum of anxious whispers reverberated around the room. The subdued lighting seemed to intensify the gravity of the impending assessment. Each individual nervously shuffled papers, stole glances at one another, and exchanged fleeting expressions of concern.Ian, a seasoned executive with a penchant for precision, entered the room with an air of authority that seemed t
Ashley reclined on the bed, her legs gently throbbing. She was covered only by a white blanket, Ian had most likely covered her up so she wouldn’t get cold after. Ian had stood up before her and she had no idea where he was, so she decided to check out the bunker. The room, much like Ian’s general tastes, was monochrome and it spoke volumes through its grayscale symphony. Every detail seemed meticulously curated to embody a sense of sleek simplicity. The bedframe boasted clean lines and stark contrasts. Its black frame stood out against crisp white sheets, inviting a sense of tranquility. As Ashley traced her fingers along the smooth surface, she marveled at the precision that went into crafting this seemingly unassuming piece of furniture. The walls were an expanse of unyielding concrete. Splashes of black and white danced in harmony, offering a visual feast that resonated with Ian's avant-garde taste. It felt to her like Ian had dedicated all his energy in making sure the room was a
As Ian stepped into the lit up gallery, he realized that his irritation was unfounded and unnecessary. It wasn’t his gallery anymore at this point, he should rename it to the hall of worshiping his wife.He kept Ashley’s eyes closed and backtracked to the stairs. He had thought the photos on his phone were too much. This was something that archaeologists would discover in five hundred years and declare Ashley as a former queen. She would never let him live this down.He turned around, remembering that the library was still dark and he went to the other part filled with paintings of violence and bloodshed. Great! He looked as though he could only paint three types of things. One, his grandfather’s kind of paintings, two, violence and bloodshed – things he wanted to do to some people that irritated him severely – and three, Ashley. The fact that Ashley was the most popular in terms of amount and quality was something he needed to think about later.“I’m tired of closing my eyes”, Ashley
