There is a saying that love is blind but in Flora’s case, it ripped her eyes out, completely leaving her without the organ.
As tears shimmer down her eyes and blood continues to stain her hands, she does not relent, sitting under the Great Oak tree at the back of the Pack’s hall, ripping her wedding dress apart with a razor.
It is not a wedding dress she sees however as the razor slices, it is Adrian’s face, it gives her a little satisfaction, having a fruitless vengeance on him for the pain he has inflicted on her.
It was here she was sitting on the day of the mating ball, unable to attend, just watching others meet their mates with little to no anticipation in her heart to meet hers when Adrian found her as his mate and here under this very tree, she gave herself to him.
After getting that text from Alice, she couldn’t even bring herself to continue packing, she just brought the dress here, where it all started, with the intention to rip it to shreds and burn it.
She leans her head against the bark of the tree for a moment, wondering exactly how or where she went wrong with Adrian.
She knows she has been ignoring the signs, too blinded by her love for him.
She heaves a truly sad sigh and takes the dress a few yards away from the tree and sets it ablaze.
She stares into the fire with sadness in her heart, her eyes holding a look of regret and despair in them.
Burning this dress is not just the end of their three year relationship, it’s the end of a longtime crush, the loss of the only man she has ever loved.
She still finds it too painful and horrible that he left her at the altar to go to his ex for any reason whatsoever but she knows it can only be for one reason, he never loved her, his love has always been for Alice.
She thought time would make him change, make him warmer, romantic and affectionate towards her but that obviously is not the case.
The only time she feels any kind of love and affection from him is when he’s inside her, plunging her depths and only tells her he loves her during sex.
She is nothing compared to Alice in status, sophistication or beauty. Adrian can go ahead and be with Alice.
She will reject him and get back on course with her life and future.
It’s time to go back to chasing the dream that she gave up to prepare herself to become his Luna.
It is her fault that she lost herself and her sense of independence just because she finally got to fall in love with her long-time crush.
She should never have done that, making Adrian the one and only priority in her life, the centre of it all.
“I don’t want to call you dumb out of respect but this is a dumb thing to do, even for you.”
Flora’s heart leaps in shock when she hears a thick male voice behind her and she turns quickly to see the owner, her face falling in disappointment when she sees it is Gustavo, Adrian’s beta.
For a moment, she hoped— thought it was Adrian.
“My business is not your concern,” she replies, turning away from him.
She crouches and picks up a small pouch from the floor. Gustavo’s eyes follow her hands suspiciously as she stuffs it inside her dress before he scoffs, brushes past her and stomps out the fire with his heavy boots before turning to her with a cold, dangerous sneer on his face.
“Then you are indeed dumb if you think burning the Alpha’s gift is of no concern to me. Do you even know how much the dress you just ruined cost?”
Flora doesn’t reply, she just glares at him, bitterness swirling in her gut.
“It’s mine, is it not?”
A mean scowl covers Gustavo’s face. “You’re lucky the Alpha is forgiving you. I would have you locked in the black hole for some days if it were me, just move it, he wants you back home. Right now.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Flora snaps, feeling even more anger that Adrian couldn’t come for her himself, he had to send his Beta but he could run from their wedding to be with Alice.
“Don’t make me force you. Come home and all will be forgiven.”
Flora furrows her brows at him, giving him a nasty look, bitterness engulfing her heart.
Forgiveness? For what exactly? She was the one left stranded on the aisle, the one who was treated like a worthless scum and she deserves forgiveness?
“Tell your Alpha. I’m enjoying my honeymoon, alone,” she sneers at Gustavo, brushing past him.
Adrian steps into the pack training ground, coming out of the gym, he’s wearing a black joggers and a sleeveless top soaked in sweat, which hugs his delicious muscular frame tightly.Everyone stops the moment they see him enter, all baring their neck to him.“Carry on,” he says, his eyes searching the crowd for Flora but he doesn’t find her. This is the third day in a row that she hasn’t shown up to training and he can see most of the new shifters who she is responsible for training just messing around. Is she still upset? This is the first time she ever throws a tantrum.“Gather round,” he frowns at the group of first shifters, “make a circle. I want one on one physical combat. The loser does 500 pushups with the winner standing on his back,” he orders coldly and the group quickly do as he instructs. He walks a distance away but not too far so he can continue to observe the first shifters and he mindlinks Flora but she blocks him.He scoffs, a tiny smile tugging the corner of his lip
Flora does not hide her displeasure at seeing Gustavo, a frown immediately contorting her face, knowing the reason why he is here.“Have you seen the video of you that’s trending?” Gustavo asks in a curt voice, his eyes cold, a nasty frown on his face, “have you seen what people are saying about the Alpha because of you?”“What video? What are they saying?” Sophia, Flora’s mother asks frantically, her fear filled eyes darting between Flora and Gustavo, clearly hearing from the tone of Gustavo’s voice that there might be trouble.“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Flora replies in a cold tone, crossing her arms against her chest, “if this is some—”“You may want to get off your high horse, woman. This is serious,” Gustavo cuts her off, takes out his phone and shoves it in her face.Flora freezes, staring at the video of her burning her wedding dress with shock in her eyes and her heart thuds. She had no idea there were cameras on her that day. A pang of guilt slices through her
Halfway into their journey back to Adrian’s house, the words of her father keep playing in Flora’s head. “A daughter with self respect.”Her dad may be extreme in his ways but is she really giving herself any respect right now? Is this what she really wants? Going back to him or is she doing it just to please others?“Stop the car,” she says to the driver from the back of the vehicle, making her mind to go back to her father’s house and if he doesn’t let her back in as he threatened, she’ll find a way to survive but she’s not going back to him.The same pattern will just repeat itself and she’ll find herself in more pain, anguish and regret. It is better to face it all now, once and for all.“What?” Gustavo replies from the front beside the driver.“I said stop the car.”“Keep going,” Gustavo orders the driver, looking away from her.“I swear to the goddess, if you don’t stop this car this minute, I’ll open the door and jump down and you know I will,” She replies in a cold voice, loo
Painful SeparationFlora stood firm, her gaze unwavering as Adrian's footsteps echoed on the ground. The man who had once been her world now felt like a stranger, and the words that left her lips were filled with a quiet strength she hadn't known she possessed."I already told you, Adrian. I’m not going back with you."Her voice came out even, but the rise in her chest was a strain that threatened to spill over. She clenched her fists tighter to still the tremor that ran through her as Adrian stood below her, eyes wide in disbelief."Do not be obstinate, Flora," he said, his voice smooth, almost pleading, but with an edge beneath it. "You belong at my side. You know that."A bitter laugh escaped her lips, sharp and harsh. "Oh, I know that? Is that right? Funny, because I don't recall belonging anywhere near you when you were in another woman's arms the day of our wedding."Adrian's jaw clenched, his face going hard. For one quick, passing instant, something flickered in his eyes-guilt
BreakdownFlora paced, her restless energy filling the tiny room. The floorboards groaned with her hurried steps, but she didn't pay them much mind. Her brain swirled with the echoes of last night-Adrian's expression, the way he had looked at her, the way he had walked away. The way her chest had caved in as he disappeared.Lena sat with her legs tucked under her on the bed and watched her, a mixture of concern and mirth on her face. "You're going to make yourself sick if you keep pacing around like that."Flora whipped around, frowning. "I'm fine."Lena snorted loudly. "Of course you are, definitely not like someone who's been reliving the same bloody conversation over and over inside her head for hours.Flora gave her a withering look, but there was no use lying. She hadn't slept one wink. Each time she shut her eyes, Adrian was waiting for her, lurking in her mind.Lena let out a sigh and leaned back into the headboard. "You know, you could just scream. Or hit something. That might
Life AgainFlora stood with her arms crossed, watching Tony butcher his form yet again. Her patience had officially worn thin."That's not how you hold the damn weights, Tony," she said, her voice laced with exasperation.Tony, a cocky twenty-something who thought lifting was all about brute strength, flashed her a smirk through the mirror. "Relax, Coach. I got this."Flora raised an eyebrow and stepped closer to him. "Yeah? You sure? 'Cause if you keep swinging them dumbbells like that, you're gonna blow out your shoulder. And I don't do injuries on my watch."He faltered for a second, adjusting the weight in his hands. "It's really not that bad.""Oh, great. Do it your way," she invited. "And when you are icing that arm later, then don't come crying to me."Tony muttered something unintelligible under his breath but rearranged his form nonetheless. Flora bit back a smirk. It had been a month since she joined the gym, and to her own surprise, she liked it. There was something oddly s
A RethinkAdrian sat at the bar, fingers clasped on a glass he hadn't touched. Across from him, Mark leaned back in his chair, sipping his drink with such ease it made Adrian want to punch something."She hasn't called you once?" Mark asked, an eyebrow rising.Adrian blew out a sharp breath. "Not once."Mark whistled low. "Damn. She's really done with you.Adrian shot him a glare, but Mark only smirked. "You know, I thought she'd at least come back to yell at you. Just once."Adrian ran a hand over his face. "So did I. But it's been months. No texts. No calls. She used to need me, Mark. Now… she doesn't."Mark shrugged. "Maybe that's a good thing."Adrian's head snapped up. "How the hell is that a good thing?Because that means she's stronger now. Independent." Mark set his glass down and leveled Adrian with a rare, serious look. "And if you actually cared about her, you'd respect that."Adrian clenched his jaw. Respect it? How was he supposed to respect something that only reminded h
The Space Left BehindThe door slammed shut behind her as Flora entered her apartment. Her breathing came in quick, shallow gasps. She knew her face would be streaked with tears, but she wiped them away all the same. She had been crying for the last few hours, but being alone meant it was time for the truth. Crushed, she felt the bitter cold dismissal still searing in her chest from Adrian's rejection. She had never expected this. No, she did not expect him to choose her, but certainly not to turn his back so fast. But that was the thing, right? She should have known better. She should have seen the warning signs. Adrian was always so cagey with his words, evasive when things got too personal. And now? Now he had discarded her like she was just another distraction. The apartment felt too empty, too quiet. She couldn't stand it. She needed to do something. Anything.Flora let her bag fall onto the kitchen counter, opened the refrigerator, pulled out a bottle of water, and downed it. Sh
A Father's Final WordsFlora sat motionless in the salon of a simple boarding house down from the chaos of her own history. The soft hum of an old radio gave some quiet distance between her thoughts, and in the silence, her mind went back to when her father's words had thrilled and soaked her. As she goggled blankly at the rumpled snap of him on the mantel, her inner voice mingled with graphic flashbacks that played out like hushed exchanges in the quiet of her heart." I flash back the way he used to say to me,' Flora, my child, every fall is a chance to rise advanced,'" she spoke vocally, her voice pulsing with a blend of pang and pain. Her friend, Marissa, who had sat opposite her in the room, glanced up with sympathetic concern." You are talking about the night before you went down from home, when you prayed him not to let the world break you?" Marissa questioned, her tone filled with understanding.Flora sluggishly jounced, gashes filling her eyes as she replied," Yes, I flash b
The FalloutFlora took up the lone corner of a black, unornamented café outside of the glistering halls of the Alpha pack, her voice pulsing as she spoke to her dearest friend ever, Marissa." I noway imagined that I would be then, down from it. I noway imagined that I would leave that world before," she confessed, her voice cracking in anguish.Marissa reached over the small, war- torn table and grasped Flora's hand." I know, Flora. You need time — time to heal and figure out who you're now that each that glamour and glamour is not around your neck." She was soft and genuine, and it was seasoned with the familiarity born of having participated times together during good times and bad.Flora's eyes grew wet as she spoke in a slightly audible tale," Every day, I wake up with recollections of that day — the gapes, the hushed cuts. I flash back the look on everybody's face when Adrian stood me up, and Alice's horselaugh in my head. It's as though the world decided to smirch me, and I stil
A Dream Shattered" Flora, may I've a minute?" Marissa asked, approaching Flora, her tone soft and uncertain." Of course," Flora replied, her voice shaking as she tried to keep her cool." What is the matter?"Marissa's eyes were full of concern." I was told that Alice would be coming moment, and I just wanted to let you know.".Flora's heart skipped a beat." Alice?" she heaved , the name sour on her lips." I allowed I'd closed that runner of my life."A cold wave, mocking voice cut across the buzz of the crowd drawn around." Oh, Flora, you did believe in puck tales, did not you?Flora bristled, and her eyes snapped towards the speaker. Alice was standing by the door, a vicious smile trickling from her lips." Alice," Flora fought, her voice pulsing with rage and anguish.Alice smiled gently, her voice light and riding." I am then to remind you of a little verity, dear. After all, how can you ever forget the treason that changed everything?"There was a buzz of embarrassment in the ro
Wedding Day TreasonFlora's heart pounded as she stood in the sun- drenched foyer of the large hall, her voice pulsing with excitement and nervous anticipation." I can not believe the moment is eventually here," she breathed to her closest friend, Marissa, who gripped her hand tightly.Marissa replied," I know, Flora. You are gorgeous. This is your dream day, the day you've always pictured of, the day you earn.".At a distance, guests' voices mixed with horselaugh, and indeed all of the whispery words sounded as if they carried an element of festivity with them. Yet within festivity, Flora's eyes danced towards the door in expedients that she'd see Adrian walking down the aisle, his aspect concentrated only on her.The door to the bachelor's chesterfield creaked vocally open at just this moment. Out came Adrian, his own face etched with solicitude and distraction. His friend Jared whisked over to him, bruiting ," Adrian, you sure you are ready for this? We are counting on you, man."A
Destined HasslesFlora and Adrian squinched in the quiet of the emulsion's reverse room, their voices little more than a murmur as though not wishing to break the fragile peace that had grown between them. It was late — so late that indeed the perpetual drone of distant exertion had desisted — and yet every judgment they uttered was laced with an intensity that belied the hour." Flora," Adrian began, his voice low and reflective," I could not help but wonder how we met. It's as if fate itself had conspired to bring us into each other's lives, indeed if everything differently around us fell piecemeal." He ran a hand through his hair, his aspect searching hers for some participated understanding.Flora shifted away for a bit of a alternate, gathering her thoughts." I comprehend," she said vocally." occasionally I feel like I am walking the tightrope between anticipation and what I truly ask . And also you walked into my life, and for a detail while, I could nearly dare dream of a futu
Unexplored WaysFlora sat in the quiet corner of the safehouse, the far- out murmurs of talk girding her slightly reaching her ears as ideas of her history and uncertain future were tangled within. also the door creaked open and Adrian stepped in, his eyes broad hers as if trying to read an implied language only she could speak." Flora, I noway allowed that I would see you then so soon," he said vocally, his tone one of surprise and something which was soft and made her skip a beat in her heart.Flora smiled noiselessly, her voice pulsing a bit as she replied," Neither did I, Adrian. It seems that fate has a mind of its own, does it not? I am still trying to figure out whether I am chasing fortune or just lost in the maze of free will."Adrian's eyes flitted with understanding." I know, I have been doing the same myself. We both are hampered by patrimonies importing on us like unseen impediment insolvable to throw off." And yet, I caught sight of you this autumn, it was as if for one
The Weight Of ProspectsFlora leaned against the gleam of the lighted beacon on the small table in the hushed common room, her mind a worried swell. The bruiting voices in the background was like a fading echo, yet within, her family's weighty heritage smothered her like a distance of heavy sword. She wore the burden of anticipation of her father's rise to former glory — a heritage always that sounded like a guiding lamp and an added burden.“ Flora, you’ve been quiet all evening, ” Adrian remarked, his tone gentle yet laced with concern as he joined her at the small table. “ What’s on your mind? ”Flora looked up, her eyes conveying a blend of vulnerability and determination." I keep allowing of all the effects that I should have done," she spoke in a tale, hardly audible." About how my pater erected his empire from scrape and also lost everything. He always used to tell me that our family was fated to reclaim its honor and that I was the only stopgap.".Adrian leaned back, blowing s
Adaptability Assignments" Life, Flora, flashback when you told me your Pater was insurmountable?" Adrian spoke in a hushed, reflective tone, leaning back against the ad hoc table in their present safehouse.Flora's response shook with pride and also with anguish." Yes, Adrian. I flashback him saying to me,' No bone can keep a legionnaire down for long.' It was his war cry, indeed when the world around him was falling piecemeal." FlanovaVincent intruded," I heard him formerly, a glass of cheap whiskey to himself, and telling you that any reversal was just the launch of coming back. He was noway about palm — about getting back up no matter what knocked him down."Lorne let out a moan," Sounds like great inspiring steed crap until a healthy cure of reality slaps you around. But if he really did feel that way, also he sure got tested oppressively.".Flora's aspect softened at the recollection." He was, Lorne. I flash back him speaking with me on some cold night and telling me,' Flora, l
Echoes Of The History" Adrian, can I ask you something?" Flora's voice quivered as she leaned in, her voice softer than usual." Sure, Flora. What's it?" Adrian's voice was soft, conservative yet open.Flora dithered before speaking," Do you ever wonder about where we all came from? I mean not what we have done, but who we were before everything."Vincent, harkening in from the table next to them, cut in," You are getting philosophical now? I allowed us to be busy waging our wars out then."Flora smiled noiselessly," I am not being deep, Vincent. It's just occasionally I hear the ghosts of my history bruting in the gloamings. They remind me of a time when I was a little child, floundering to understand everything."Lorne moaned," Ghosts, yeah? Okay, also go ahead and tell us your ghost story."Flora let out a deep breath, her eyes far down." Fine, if you are each set to take a walk down memory lane, also hear. She took a slow breath." I flash back sitting in the corner of our old liv
